This is a job which involves precision and a great amount of detail. He ensured I got the finest hammers from Germany, completed the restoration in the shop and returned to spend six hours meticulously integrating, regulating, voicing and tuning. The piano sounds and feels as though it has just come from the Yamaha factory. I could not be more pleased. He had to contend with a number of incidentals caused by previous work and did not get up from the bench until he was satisfied that the piano was in exemplary condition. I have been making great progress, and I've been improving faster than I have in the past with other teachers. Overall, Steve is a quiet, calm, all-around kind person. He is always encouraging, even when offering constructive criticism of my playing. I always look forward to my next lesson. After each lesson, I leave feeling good about my playing, and also like I received good feedback, so I know where I need to improve. Steve has been great at helping me select songs to play. As we move on to new pieces, the next one is always just the right difficulty--challenging enough to help me progress but always within reach with a little bit of work. He's also always open to me bringing in pieces that I want to work on. I usually bring a few in, and he helps me decide which piece will be the best fit for my current skills. Steve's depth and breadth of piano knowledge is also impressive. I often ask him questions about why a particular piece is written a particular way or some other detail about a piece. He always has a thorough answer that covers the relevant areas of music history, theory, and practice. I've never met another piano teacher who is so knowledgeable about the piano and piano music. It really helps to give some context to the music I'm playing and helps me understand it better. Overall, I've been very pleased, and I would not hesitate to recommend High Range Piano to anyone looking for a piano teacher.

They instill in all of their students a love for music. If there is a piece I want to play because it speaks to my heart, they will find the music and help me learn it. When my left hand was injured and unable to play for over a year, Neal played the left hand of my pieces and later when I had the use of that hand back, we continued to incorporate duets and a trio (with my sister on the violin) into our music lessons. They knit all of the adult students together in adult studio class, an informal pot luck at which we played for each other. It has been wonderful. We are continuing with on line lessons and adult studio class by Skype.

Him: *cough splutter cough* well I doubt it will ever be that price again. We don't sell paint at that price. Me: okayyyyy. In which case can I just get a tester in x color. I motion the size of the can with my hands. Him: We don't sell testers. There's a paint shortage. Me: I bought a tester here last week. Him: No you didn't. If you bought it anywhere it was another store, but you did NOT buy it here. Me: Look at my account. I bought a tester (motion again with my hands) here last week. It was x color and it was quart size. Him: That's a quart then. That's not a tester. You said a tester. We don't sell testers. Me: okayyyy - all I know is that last week I asked for a tester, and that's what the guy gave me. I mean jeez. Go ahead and wear a shirt saying you hate all women and don't want them shopping at your store, because that was basically his entire attitude. I walked out and went straight to Lowes - told them the SW colors I wanted, and bought hundreds of dollars worth of paint there instead. And for much much cheaper than the SW colors I was trying to buy at SW. So I guess I actually owe him thanks for saving me a ton of money!
