I just downloaded Yelp so I could put this review up here. Five stars! I'm a beginner with my Floyd Rose that I bought a few weeks ago, and had some trouble tuning and figuring out how it works. My action was high on my guitar, so I gave it to Smitty so he could fix it. He did his thing, and said it was for free. I was super grateful about this, and I couldn't even thank him more! Few weeks later, a string broke on my guitar. Again, handed it to Smitty for help. He taught me how to restring it, going in about every detail. I came to this store 2 days ago. My visit was memorable that I need to write great recognation for 2 staff there! My son & I came to find electric guitar. We have zero knowledge about it, so thought we stopped by and asked questions. The first staff (tall guy), I wish I catched his name, was very friendly & welcoming. He explained some stuff that I need to know. When the time he needed to leave the store, he came to us, and mentioned he will leave but he communicated with other staff to help me. He didn't have to tell me that he was leaving, but he did! Awesome service there! While the other employee was still in the middle of transaction, the store manager, Scott, came out from the office & approached us. He is AMAZING! He explanained even more details, without making us feel bad or dumb. He was not only telling us the guitar differences, but he also demonstrated what guitars & amps can do with different type of music he played. We received lots of information in a short period of time. Bought several instruments from GC. Fine place and I've worked with decent people there.. Except past 2 experiences in Lynnwood leave a bad taste for me.. When I was looking at a bass, the pickguard had obviously had someone thrashing on it - and when I asked "Is this a used bass?" The most condescending a-hole rep responded with: "well, if it was used, the way you would know is there would be a sign on it that says 'used'.." what a prick.. To top it off - yesterday I went to buy ANOTHER bass.. I brought in a trade, and to my surprise, they turned me (and two other customers in the store) away.. YOU ARE LITERALLY TELLING CUSTOMERS TO LEAVE THE STORE. This is a terrible business practice when your company depends on customer trades and they're specifically connected to new sales.. I went down to the Roosevelt center and was immediately helped. The nice staff there took the trade, and I ended up dropping 3k on the same day I was turned way at Lynwood. You know it would be a lot easier to "staff" and run your store if you don't have customers. So they limit trades to wed-Saturday. read more

Had an issue with a loose pickup on a used guitar I just bought at Guitar Center. Took it back and Smitty got it all working in no time, replaced some springs and dialed in the pickup heights, checked the action, nut and intonation, all at a reasonable cost. Hey there good people - just so you know, Smitty the repair tech at Guitar Center Lynnwood is a great guy. I came in a few days ago with a piddly-a## little issue on my guitar - the teeny tiny little screw holding the jack plate in place had gone missing and no hardware store had anything similar. So I called up Guitar Center Lynnwood, explained the situation and they said "come on in and our tech will see what he can do." I got in there, the tech had dozens of guitars stacked up to be serviced, but he stopped what he was doing, listened, and promptly took 3 minutes to find the right screw and screw it in correctly free of charge. And with such a good vibe. We ended up chatting a bit about music and I got to hear about one of his bands he's in, it was just lovely. I left the place with my guitar ready for my first good since the pandemic and even more importantly feeling that even in this dreary day and age we are living in, there are still genuinely good people who want to be cool and help out without expecting anything in return. Guitar Center used to be the staple shop of musicians to go to , always good knowledgeable staff with lots of gear in stock and always a pleasant experience, in the past lately this Lynnwood location is absolute garbage. Went in the drum department just to get some drum heads the store was a mess display gear was trashed nobody in the drum department. The customer service was absolutely horrendous when I asked a basic question the guy looked at me like why are you bugging me about Drums when I am working the front counter? It's really sad that it's come to this no wonder many musicians order from online retailers but when you need something quick and you go to your local music shop you get jacked around read more

I come here to look at used gear now and then, when passing by. The employees always greet me, and ask if I need anything. The guitars are set up as you might expect for a big box store--maybe better than the Bellevue location, where on one visit I couldn't find a playable guitar. They have a fair number of used pedals for those of us still living in the 20th Century. You can probably find better deals online (except for Guitar Center's website, which is one of the worst things on the internet), but you can play some guitars here. If you're serious, they might tweak an instrument's set up for you. read more

I went to the Lynnwood, WA branch to take lessons on my banjo. We discovered that one of the screws was loose on the head of my banjo. Apparently I had bought it that way. (No fault of Guitar Center as I bought it elsewhere.) The repairman, Smitty, was great! He took it apart for me, found that the screw holder portion itself was cracked, and glued and clamped it together. Now my banjo is as good as new! Thank you Smitty!! We have used the repair department for many years for several different instruments. Our last repair was not completed as requested and we were told we had to pay for another part the repair person broke while installing. We received much lower quality strings than we paid for and what we were told would take 10 days took over a month. We are looking for a new repair place. read more

I've purchased 2 major items from here (Roland v-electronic drums and a 12 string guitar - totaling about 5k). I cannot for the life of me understand why a guitar case, or a single set of sticks couldn't be included.... Upon asking for the store manager to throw in a case for the guitar I was told they 'don't negotiate'. I don't see this as negotiation, I see this as customer service. It feels a bit like the market is cornered and maximized so they don't have to 'try'. Stores are so understaffed that even when it wasn't holiday season I still waited 90 minutes to get help w drums originally. Overall I get it - go capitalism and you don't owe anyone anything for free, but you're so happy to sell insurance on these items, how about a discounted bag or accessories then? Empower your workers to feel like they can deliver an awesome customer experience. I'm going to head up north to Long and McQuade in the future instead. No offer to set up the guitar btw, no check on tuning, didn't wipe it down..... just asked if I wanted a box lol. Also plz shampoo your carpets, it smells like wet dog 90% of the time. read more

I had enrolled my kid for the drum classes , upon checking with them on age limitations. After paying and taking 4 classes with them, the instructor tells us , we will have to wait for a year or 2, as playing drums needs a bit more focus and to make matters interesting, at the end of each of those 4 classes, instructor told us that he was progressing good and must continue further. My kid was enjoying the opportunity to play drums, but this poor experience from Guitar Center will keep us away from them for foreseeable future. read more

Tyler, the awesome guitar tech, did a setup on my Ibanez S621 recently. I wanted to adjust the action and raise the strings to make it more rhythm friendly (Ibanez's have it low, for metal riffs and solos). He did an amazing job. It has never sounded this great, surprisingly well balanced with the "crunch" still there, and considerably better classic rock plucking and rhythms. read more

Great Guitar Center location and has a lot of guitars to choose from with a mixture of instruments and random stuff like songbooks, used microphones, and DJ equipment. We came in looking for what they had for synthesizers and everything was a toy. I would recommend using ebay or Control Voltage in Portland for synths. That said, there's a wide variety of guitars and other stuff that may be what you're looking for here. They offer rentals on amps, speakers, lights, etc. for parties and such. read more

Staff is genuinely interested in helping you make the right decision regardless of if you buy from them or not - they have patience with customers. I have bought cables, pedal and 2 guitars here and will definetly come back for any more needs for myself or my kids. The place is kid friendly to boot! They have great selection of guitars, pedals and other instruments. Their cable 'livewire' has life time warranty and free exchanges!! I want to say that, most of my experiences here have been great. However, I purchased an audio technica turn table. With Bluetooth. Took it home, had trouble shooting issues. As was trying to pair with my Alexa echo dot SPEAKER and no sound would come, it wouldn't connect. When I came to exchange because they don't do returns on these items with a needle, one of the employees, not the actual girl helping me but another employee, came into the conversation. Now I had been on the phone with an Alexa tech support AND audio technica support team. Both realized it's a device error, as when tried to restart the device it turned black and wouldn't pair. The device showed up on my Alexa app but no sound would come out on the speaker, except through the device. Which I told the employee, after explaining all of that, he continued to tell me it's a personal error. No sir it's not, it's a device error. I asked him if he wanted to check my phone and see that no device was detected through my Bluetooth. Meaning it doesn't show up to connect for Bluetooth. I had told him I don't have actual speakers but I have an Alexa echo dot speaker he tried to tell me that those won't work...and they do, because the whole device is BLUETOOTH it's an ALEXA DOT SPEAKER. Im an audio engineer Major, get better employees who don't talk down to customers especially women customers. In between chatting with me he was also helping an elderly women and she we screaming at him because he wasn't listening to what she was saying. He's like you can't just buy this and play it with no speakers. I'm like do you even know what an Alexa echo dot SPEAKER is? Again get better employees who don't judge a book by it's cover. It's literally Bluetooth, he was trying to tell me I can only hook it up through my phone through Bluetooth, but again I told him this device never showed up on my phone to connect. Only in the Alexa app but it wouldn't play sound through the Alexa echo dot. The audio technica tech support said you can play it through your Alexa dot ...he literally helps people everyday do that. Jesus. Update*** would you look at that, got it exchanged, and it worked perfectly fine. Connected in less than 5 minutes to my Alexa echa dot SPEAKER. Sounds great. It was a device issue. read more

I bought a new electric guitar at Guitar Center about a week ago. The salesperson, Jaden, was super nice and patient with me. He let me tryout all the guitars I wanted, and showed me the kinds of guitars I was interested in checking out. I was looking for something in the $300-500 range I could "shred" with. I finally bought an Ibanez with locking nut and a maple blond neck with the tuners facing down. The orange sunburst was called dragon eye. It was also available in flat blue lagoon, which I immediately liked. I asked him if he could lower the $499 price, and he took 10% off for being a floor display model, last one. I loved the guitar, but later realized the factory may not have quite gotten the set-up specs right. I took it back this morning for examination and adjustment, and a friendly guitar tech employee named Joe said he would check it for me while I was in line waiting to enter. He had it adjusted and ready for me before I even entered the store, and for that I want to say thank you guitar center and your awesome staff. Do buy a guitar you like there, because they will give you excellent service. Give that man a raise! read more

I think Guitar Center's only strength lies in its sheer number of guitars. As it applies to actual technical knowledge of its staff (and everything else), however, you will surely be disappointed. I often call it the "Wal-Mart" of guitar stores. There is plenty of variety, but that's where it stops. Do not get a setup here. They do not even know how to string a classical guitar properly (not kidding). Do not sell a guitar here (I was offered $150 for a like new Gibson flying V). Do not get roped into their aggressive push for extended warranties, no matter how much they use the fear tactic or try to scare you into doing it. Remember, if you deny every single extended warranty and put that money you DIDN'T spend in a savings account or index fund, you'll be much better off. If you must purchase your guitar here as it is difficult to find elsewhere, take it to Tommy's Guitar Shop in Everett afterward for a proper setup or a health check. They won't try to upsell you on anything, and if your guitar is actually a lost cause, they won't be afraid to tell you so you can take it right back to Guitar center. Tommy's has been straight with me every visit. read more
