the staff are terrible. every time I go there I wait at the registers for a half hour while the employees walk around ignoring me. I went there today and a guy and I were standing there for awhile while 2 employees walked past us and went to help 1 customer. you don't need 2 employees to help 1 customer. I'm never going back. Go to music mill instead. The customer service and prices are way better there. read more

Customer service is pretty lousy. I went there a couple weeks ago and asked to see something and the guy walked away (I thought to get a ladder) and never came back. Called the following week to see if something we had seen was still available. They said it was. Drove 40 minutes to the store and someone said that they were not supposed to sell them until such and such a date because somebody else wanted them to be held. This would've been good information before we drove out there. read more

Want to give a shout out to "King Doug" in the repair center... Doug took on a challenge to repair the electrical system of my vintage Takamine acoustic. After his diagnosis, it was determined based on parts needed, it wouldn't be worth it..SO, I will keep the guitar for now because it is still great without amplifying..I put my money into good use be purchasing a new Yamaha transacoustic guitar ... Bought a used guitar from them (via web) after asking over the phone if the it had any fret wear and being assured it didn't. I received it with large train rails. Calling them after did not help. One of the managers tried to gaslight me by pretending that used guitars "always" have fret wear, as if this is actually my fault for not knowing, which is of course a fallacy (nevertheless, if that was the case, why did the sales person told me otherwise?). Instead of doing the responsible thing and having UPS pick up the guitar the next business day, they want me to drive for nearly an hour, wait a line, and spend gas money to return it locally, then call them to get shipping charges back, as they "don't want to spend more money on this transaction". I walked in just expecting to look around. I had no knowledge of guitars and kinda just wanted a basis to start from. I'd heard good things about guitar center and figured it was worth a shot. I walked in, looked around, and (once again) had no idea what I was looking for. It was completely foreign. One of the workers, Matt, came and asked if I was finding everything okay and I asked him about good starting guitars and whether electric or acoustic is better to start off. He answered every question with great detail and was super nice in the process. He helped me figure out what I was looking for and told me the different options I had. I'm very disappointed with this store. I bought a used Martin DRS-1 online from another GC location in Michigan for $549 plus shipping, taxes etc. Much to my chagrin, the instrument arrived with a huge crack going from about the bridge to the tail. The guitar obviously wasn't properly humidified before shipping. So I brought it to Manch GC for a refund. I asked the kid working behind the register if they'd try to repair the crack and sell the guitar, and he said no. Well, the very next day I came in to browse their inventory again, and saw my DRS-1 on display priced, again, at $549, and of course STILL had the crack. Not only are they trying to sell a busted guitar, they're also not marking it down due to damage in any way. That's very shady to me. Lastly, this used Martin priced at $549 doesn't even come with a case or a gig bag. You can buy the exact same model at any music store brand new for $729, hardshell Martin case included. And of couse it shouldn't have a giant crack in it. read more

Over the last four months, I have made three separate purchases at Guitar Center in Manchester, and have had absolutely amazing service each time. The staff has been knowledgeable with the three different instruments I have purchased, and I felt zero pressure to purchase the "insurance" on said instruments, even though I was given the pros and cons of buying or not buying it. Every member of the staff asked if we were being helped, and were willing to help if we were not. The manager of the store was available AND approachable, which is very important to me. I don't want someone hiding in the office, not helping out on the floor, especially when it is a busy time. I will continue to purchase musical instruments from this store and location, especially if Doug is working. He was SO helpful, honest, and I trusted him with my purchase today. Thanks guys! PS. At the time of two of the three purchases I have made, almost every staff member at one time or another picked up and played an instrument, so I don't think that they are just "sales" people. If you're looking to be "sold" something. This is the place to go. They have almost everything, which is why I gave them two stars not one. I put "sold" in quotes as my impression was that sales people work there not musicians. I dealt with three people who didn't seem to be familiar with the piece of equipment I was attempting to demo in the store. A couple of other employees also seemed surprised at what this equipment was capable of. So five employees were unfamiliar with what they were selling. The night manager? came over several times to talk me into buying first and figuring out the equipment later, because "that's half the fun." So I guess I'm just an idiot and can't make my own decision. Having them turn up their in-house music while I was trying to hear this piece of equipment was also certainly challenging. Unfortunately I was stuck and needed this item for a gig, so I bought it, only to be ridiculed for not buying the extended warranty. I've been playing music professionally for 35+ years and to be talked down to by the evening manager who was probably half my age was insulting. So go to Music Mill in Manchester. They have a very good inventory also, and will order something if they don't have it. Everybody there is super-knowledgeable. The employees have experience in the music business and their prices are reasonable, if not better, than a major corporation that seems to be driven by sales rather than customer satisfaction. read more
