I went into this location looking for a guitar to play for my son's memorial service. I was traveling from the East Coast and didn't want to pay for the extra luggage, so I figured I could stop in, buy an inexpensive guitar, play it for the weekend, then find a gutter punk in need of a guitar and give it to them in memory of my son- who also was a gutter punk for parts of his life. Christian helped me out- super friendly and right there when I walked in with my other son. He heard my story and took all the time we needed to find just the right low-cost guitar for this purpose, all the while talking to me about my son, music, the shared nature of music and space and community. Another customer, Dave, was there too and got involved in our conversation. Sweet ol' guy with stories a'plenty! When time came to ring us up, Christian gave us a little discount because of the path this particular guitar was on. How kind! I was so moved. Then Dave stepped up and told Christian to put it on his bill. Amazing! Such kindness and generosity when a grieving mother needed it most- I cannot begin to express how much this meant to me and my family. To know others are here with us as we mourn, especially in this time of isolation, means so very much! After the weekend memorial with family was done, we took the guitar, a new capo, and some picks down to the park by the freeway. There were several groups of gutter punk kids there, but none in need of a guitar. So we went to Safeway to buy them all chicken and sodas and some cupcakes- figured my son would have wanted me to. In front of the Safeway was a couple with a dog, a cat and a backpack. Her name is Snail and he goes by St. Christopher. He had lost his guitar on their travels. So I went to the car, got "the guitar community built" and went back to them. Told them the story of my son- who he was, how kind he was, how he loved music (Tom Waits esp!)- and asked them to please not sell this guitar right away, but instead use it as long as they could and think of my son Jake traveling with them. They were in tears and I was so grateful to be able to celebrate my son with something that will be moving forward, changing peoples moods and attitudes when it is played. Thank you Christian and Dave for being part of a very important moment in my life- and a moment that is radiating out into the world, bringing music and joy with it! read more

After submitting this information to cooperate, I have not heard anything back. After two days on Facebook marketplace, I sold my controller to someone who knew what it was and how to use it for $150. I ordered the GRV6 online from Sweetwater for the same price as Guitar Center. The day after ordering, Sweetwater called me to thank me for my order and update me on shipping information. They thanked me for my business and were extremely professional and friendly- the COMPLETE opposite of all three employees inside Medford's Guitar Center. People that have negative experiences are much more likely to share them than those with good experiences. I am sharing my Guitar Center experience with everyone I can. read more

My 8 year old son started music lessons with Hacovo and is loving it! He's always excited to go each week. It's so great to have a music teacher that makes learning fun! Hacovo is super patient and gives a lot of affirmation on my son's progress throughout the lesson. I can also watch my son's lesson on live video outside of the lesson rooms - which is great. So after five years and we have canceled our lessons leaving 3 remaining for one child to use within 30 days. No refunds. They are conveniently canceling and not attempting to allow us to use remaining credits. Effectively stealing our money. The lesson department needs to close due to lack of consistent instructors and inability to schedule properly. Thievery in business is a bad practice, treating your customers poorly is bad business. I have given them my name email phone and not a single person has reached out besides replying to my negative reviews. So be clear they are NOT trying to remedy or touch base or anything with us. Even though on social media they say they are. NOTHING FROM THEM BUT A EMAIL SAYING YOUR LESSONS AT 630 PM THURSDAY ARE CANCELED. Traveling from out of town, store associate wouldn't allow me to change my guitar strings in the shop. When I inquired about paying for the service there way no one there to actually change the strings. Off to buy wire cutters to do it myself and will not be coming back. I recently bought an electronic drum kit from Guitar Center in Medford. My experience from beginning to end was excellent! My first couple of trips there was basically to look around and ask my many questions. The guys there (Joey and I believe, Rex) were very helpful, patient and knowledgeable. On my third trip I ordered a kit. This was early December. It was to be delivered 5-7 days later. When it didn't show I called the 800 number for Guitar Center. I was informed that it was not in stock. I was told that it may show up in February, but since Roland didn't have any at the time, it could be longer or not at all. Pretty upsetting. I didn't want the next model down or up. I wanted the one I'd ordered. I called back to Medford GC. I spoke to Miles. He was terrific! He got right on it. He located my kit at a Guitar Center in Minnesota and had it transferred to the Medford store. I had it in hand within 2 weeks and at a reduced price. I have actually never been inside the store proper. When I recently purchased something from Guitar Center online, it was shipped from and packed by someone at this store. They did an excellent job, including a few extras like a drum key and the alternative muting ring for the EMAD drum head that was included with the drum set. I have bought used snare drum from Medford GC, had at least three expensive guitars professionally set up there, and had drums and a BF Fender Twin 1967 shipped there. Their guitar tech got the set-ups spot on for each of the 3, buying & receiving eqpmt there easy and at a reasonable price. Despite so many earlier negative reviews I have found them helpful and straight up to deal with, especially the guitar tech whose experience and judgment I trust. read more

Never got in the door. They were closed 20 minutes early on a Sunday with good weather. No note on the door. No cars in the lot outside. I was there during an out of town trip on a day when other music stores were closed. Inclined to agree with many reviews here that suggest they just don't give a darn! I have shopped here for many years and get most of my musical equipment and guitar repairs done here. Today I went in to have new strings put on my guitar. (Which I have done many times in the past) I was told via one of the other employees the day before that the charge would be 20.00 plus the cost of strings to have my guitar re stringed and wiped down. The "lead" guy informed me when I got there that in order for them to wipe the dust off my guitar to put the strings on it would cost the deluxe cost for the service which was around 50.00. When I told him what the employee the day before told me, he informed me the employee was wrong. I then asked the "lead" if they put strings on guitars and don't wipe the dust off before hand. He said if the person doesn't buy the deluxe then no. For a music company who specializes in caring for instruments it makes no sense in my mind why you would put new strings on without wiping the dust off the guitar. This is not good for the strings or guitar and is bad service. They were not willing to work with me on any of this. I even told them I would pay a little extra to have them wipe off the dust. They said they would still charge me the deluxe price. Bad business and took my service to a local company who offered way better care for me as the customer and for my instrument. They would not put clean strings on a dusty guitar. I will never spend any more money at guitar center or recommend this place again. read more

I recently bought a bass from Guitar Center Medford; service was OK but not great. My wife is a classically-trained guitarist who dropped her guitar while teaching public high school. We had it repaired but it is not the same. I brought her to Guitar Center to look at and play nylon-stringed guitars, asking for help twice but no one ever showed up into the acoustic room. Finally I pulled down a couple of guitars, both around $1,900 but when no one helped us, we decided to take our business elsewhere. My wife's parents owned full-service music stores for many years including pianos and band instruments in the San Francisco Bay Area, and we were appalled at the lack of service at Guitar Center. We went to Tom's Guitars in Medford and were immediately helped, and the salesman brought over an amp to hear the electronics. When time to buy, it will be from Tom's. read more

Not willing to help... a friend of mine got an amp there that was either played the heck out of and returned or for resale..... worked for a month and started to have issues..... had a reverse electrical short and blow the guitar electronics out... had have the guitar fixed ..... took the amp back they wouldn't do anything to back it up or repair or replace..... I stopped in today and two guys were hiding in a office came out and passed me and I said could someone help me ..... both were rude and wouldn't help me.... I walked out.... I'll never go in there again..... I'll go to Tom's guitar or buy on line from Sweet Water ..... Worst Guitar Center that I've ever been, and I've been in 81 GCs in my day. I was there to have them transfer a Gibson R9 flame top at the tune of $7999.99. The guy that was helping me wouldn't honor a coupon of 15% on it because he had to ship it in from another store. I asked to speak with the manager and all I got was attitude from the manager. I was literally just trying to buy a guitar from them. I've worked in the Guitar sales industry for 33 years and even with the 15% off they were still making a killing on the guitar. The original guy that was helping went to lunch the moment I started talking to the manager. I tried to point out that the guitar was priced wrong via Gibsons website and I had even called the store that had it to get the serial number so I could verify what MSRP was with Gibson. If the guitar would have been priced at M.A.P. and they had given me 5% off they could have sold that guitar that day to me. The days of big box stores are over. I will be going to independent store's from now on. I've had excellent service from The Music Zoo, Wildwood and Chicago Music Exchange though. read more

We recently went through the southern Oregon Almeda fire and lost our home and everything we had. We lost a beloved acoustic guitar that my spouse and I bought 20 years ago when we first were together. Going into guitar center was to try to find a new guitar to replace what we lost. We got the absolute best customer care from several employees. I believe the first guy was Tony- he pointed us in the right direction and we tried several guitars only to go back to the first one he recommended. We bought a beautiful Yamaha acoustic electric- gig bag, cables, picks- it felt good to see Mike's happiness after losing all our belongings. We were checked out by Christian, who had helped Mike on previous visits. Christian is kind, genuine and really cares about his customers. Thank you Guitar Center for your excellent customer care. We are going back today to look at an electric guitar Mike played and can't stop thinking about now. We may be adding a second guitar today, we'll see read more

I purchased an Ibanez Bass SR500E a couple of years ago. The purchase experience was shady as the first one I bought had part of the coating lifted off they ordered a new guitar..so finally after 5 weeks I had a great Bass. About 3 years later the active died and would NOT produce sound. I took my bass in for repair as part of the extended maintenance agreement. It has now been 10 weeks and my bass is still there waiting to be repaired. I would call and people would tell me they would call back...not on person or manager ever called me back. Sooo I personally will never spend another penny at this store or step foot in it. The latest in this SAGA.. I am now stuck with a defective Bass Ibanez SR500E so count that a $700 loss. I do want to state that the technician went above and beyond... although he worked on it and had to wait for parts .. I was not charged ... The tech had my guitar for months and didn't get anything done but order a bunch of wrong parts. This place will be like toys r us... bankruptcy time! I live in Weed, CA and shopped around Redding and Medford for a basic electric guitar and amp to play for enjoyment and pick up where I left off a few years ago when I played my acoustic. Guitar Center ordered a Schecter C6 Electric and I picked it up a few days later. It was in a box that was unopened, so no one in the store had apparently even looked at it before handing it off to me. Sure enough, when I got it home, it needed to be unwrapped, dusted off and tuned. I was never able to tune it - wouldn't stay in tune and the strings sounded very tinny. I also noticed the tuning pegs were all loose. I let the strings stretch for a few days and attempted to play it again- same thing. So, the guitar stayed in its case in the spare bedroom for a few weeks and I attempted to play it again. The strings were all sitting flush on the fret board and rendered the guitar unplayable. I traveled 70 miles back to Guitar Center to ask the business to inspect the guitar and repair it if possible. The technician found the guitar defective. He suggested that I ruined the guitar by storing it in an area where there was high humidity. I live in the high dessert area of northern CA, where the air is very dry, and my house is temperature controlled. The manager, Miles held on to the defective guitar for approximately one month while no one called to provide an update. I called numerous times and was given the run-around by various employees. Today, I contacted Miles and his very blase' statement to me was 'Call Schecter and maybe they can replace it or do something with it'. He did not provide any information as to how to contact Schecter or offer any kind of help with pursuing a refund. Guess where I will NEVER purchase anything ever again. I spent about $500 at Guitar Center and have nothing to show for it. Shady business with slimy employees. TAKE YOUR BUSINESS ELSEWHERE!! read more

I can say as a former professional musician and someone who worked for a Guitar Center owned subsidiary , this location has some serious chumps working the sales floor. Walking in to this dirty, disorganized, and quite smelly location, I was not greeted by anyone. Then, I was greeted by some dudes who "might" have been employees, but their jeans and t-shirts and lack of anything branding them as Guitar Center didn't make me feel to confident... they approached me with "hey". Nothing more. Just "hey". I'm not a horse. After I approached another guy behind the counter stating I had 2 or 3 very quick questions ( looking to drop about 1k on a Keyboard and accessories), I asked for their Keyboard Guy; this particular chump then went to Sam the keyboard guy, consulted him, came back, and then I was simply told, "he's busy". That was it. I then asked--"should I wait?" To which I got..."if you want". They followed up with "we are busy". End of conversation. There seemed to be about 8 people working and around 4 customers. Yeah, real busy guys. Long story short, they showed no interest in making a sale. To the credit of some guy working there who was actually on his day off-- he chased me out the door and said he could answer my questions. He wasn't very knowledgeable, but he tried, and he tried on his day off. Good for you dude...you'll go far in this company if you keep it up--won't be hard to pass your peers. A typical gear-head place where the employees could care less about helping a customer. The ironic part? They work on commission. I'll never be back. Ever. read more

People don't usually rate something on 'Yelp' unless they're upset or angry about something. So I take a lot of 'Yelp' reviews with indifference because I don't think that, overall, they're truly fair. I've spent a lot of money at Guitar Center over the years. I've been 'helped' by some employees who really don't know the products that they are selling. Also, the head manager has changed from time to time also. But, Christian has been outstanding there. He hustles, and doesn't have a moment to slow down, it seems. But, he has, over many years made sure that I am satisfied with purchases that I have made, either with 'new' or 'used' equipment. I would rate Christian 5 stars but give Guitar Center itself a lesser rating, due to some of the other people employed there. Guitar Center has many of the items that I personally need. Like all Guitar Centers though, I recommend not paying the 'sticker' price just like an auto dealership. Negotiate and you may find that you get a better deal. It doesn't hurt to ask.... read more

I'm a traveler and I wanted to pick up a Vox mini amp. They told me first to wait till Tuesday because that's when two will be shipped in. I waited till then in Ashland area. I call and a fellow "Joey" said there was none and ask for Bill tomorrow afternoon. I call the next day and I ask for Bill. They put me in the line with "Miles." Now Miles was the least helpful person there thru the phone. Had no care whatsoever for customer satisfaction, so to whom it may concern, do not rely on these people. When it came time to make a trade and order a guitar, all of a sudden the trade price changed and the cost of the guitar changed. Not happy and never going back. I ordered an Ovation from them. Everything was fine for a month or so, then it broke. I had purchased the warranty, and John (the manager) and Samantha) the guitar manager) were extremely helpful! They bent over backwards to get the guitar replaced with another one, and took care of everything.
