The staff here are very friendly and helpful. Me and my husband came in looking for a drum for our son. We weren't very sure what we wanted. But wow these guys are super helpful. They could have just pointed to the Lil corner of bongo and conga drums and said that's all we have, but nope not these guys . They got a ladder and started pulling stuff down from a storage area behind the register. We found something we liked and walked out extremely happy. We will definitely be back mostly because of the service and partly because this place is alot of fun. I feel bad that I didn't get a name of the three guys that helped us. But I do know one was new and still learning he was in the drum area and the other was his manager I believe kinda Asian looking guy maybe philipino. But anyway thanks you guys a bunch! read more

I've been to Guitar Centers all across the US and this is one of my favorites for a couple simple reasons: 1. The staff let's you settle in, get comfortable, and try out the equipment. No hard sell. 2. The staff is knowledgable. 3. Perhaps it is because it is in Pasadena and not Hollywood or San Francisco, but I have never heard someone at this location cranking the distortion up and attempting to play Metallica or Smoke on the Water. Ahhhhhhh! 4. Parking is super easy with a huge parking lot in the back. 5. There is usually a good selection of used gear to compliment a wide selection of new gear. read more

I'm revising some reviews to make them a bit more streamline and this is one of them. I like this Guitar center. I like the Hollywood store too but this is closer and more convenient. The staff is very friendly and glad to help. I have purchased a couple of ukulele's from this location and a bunch of other items. Actually I bought a 1962 Kay Swingmaster hollow body about 7 years ago or so. The go to guy at this location is Patrick. I only seemed to be aware of him about a year ago but for some reason I think he said he has been here a number of years yet I never noticed until a year ago. He's a good guy and very helpful. I usually go to him when buying here. I recently saw a guitar stand at the GC website I wanted. I thought I could buy it at the store so I went to get it. I learned it was available online only. Stephanie helped me out this time. she filled out the info on the webpage as I gave her my info. She was and always has been helpful and friendly. So it was ordered and shipped to store for pickup. ould have had it sent to home but being sent to store I was able to go and check out more gear. I go here a lot to browse but I'm not a "looky loo. I go for entertainment, true, but I do see things I want now and them and buy. So for all the times I go I don't buy a lot percentage wise but in the past 10 years I have actually purchased a lot. I just wait 'till I see something I like and I pull the trigger and buy. In other words it's just a matter of time then something I like is there and I buy it. Took my Jackson Rhoads Pro to get set up for B standard tuning (LOW!!!). The guitar had been neglected for 15-20 years, thus the pickups and bridge became rather rusted. The fret board was also super dirty. CARLOS did an awesome job of not only cleaning it up, but also setting the guitar up to a super low tuning. This is my second favorite Guitar Center (the Hollywood store is my favorite). Look you gotta love GC just because they're so big with so much cool stuff. I hate their misleading and annoying radio ads, though. Musician salesmen are cocky and a pain in nearly all music stores, unfortunately. But I've also dealt with several excellent sales people at various music stores, including this Pasadena GC. And, knowing that Pasadena is the city that nurtured Van Halen when they were just starting out, it's only appropriate that they have a GC. This one is pretty convenient and pretty easy to find -- only they need to improve the side of the store facing Colorado to make it more visible. The side to the back has a convenient parking lot shared with a bank and something else. It's a good size, nearly as big as the Sunset store. GC sales people tend to be harder on kids because kids too often are problems with screwing up gear, playing too loudly, getting in the way, and stealing stuff. And the Pasadena store attracts a lot of kids, I've noticed. But I'm cool with not having a bunch of tweaked up teenies around getting in my way while I'm wailing away with abandon. For myself, the more the sales people leave me alone until I ask for their help, the better. But thanks go out to the salesman who shooed off the gaggle of kids that assembled around me on the day I was in there testing a guitar amp and ripping through my repertoire of Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, Alice In Chains, Green Day, and Smashing Pumpkins licks. read more

Shopping at guitar center makes you feel like you are shopping at a special store designed for criminals. All I wanted to do was buy some gaffer tape, so they walked the tape up to the register (which is right by the tape) yet they needed my first and last name, phone number home address and email. All this before I even knew what the price was of what I was trying to buy. I'm surprised I wasn't asked for my facebook profile login and password, driver's license, social security number, urine sample and finger prints. Before I left they needed to check the one roll of tape in the clear guitar center bag and receipt to see I bought the tape, in case I had come up with an elaborate plan to bring and old guitar center bag in with an old receipt and steal some tape. tl;dr - make sure you have your phone number, first name/last name, home address, and email ready if you want to buy some tape.... read more

Came in on 3/15/2018 at 1:20 pm to purchase a simple audio cable. I needed a simple audio cable to send the sound from my cell phone into my PA system and bass guitar amp. This is an audio cable with 3.5 mm jack on one end and the 1/4" jack on the other end. I combed through their selection and they only had the Livewire brand throughout the whole store with these kind of audio ends. I purchased the most cost efficient one $12.03 w/ tax (Brand New. Livewire Essentials 3.5mm to 1/4" TRS-TRS cable SKU#7187306000). Went home, plugged it in and it sounded worse than my old wire that my cats had chewed on. Had to get back in my car and drive all the way back to this store for an exchange. Went to the counter and ("Kazara") helped me. She told me to just exchange it for another and grab another wire from the shelf/rack. I went to the area to get another and then requested to test it out. Good thing I did, because when she and I tested the next one, it sounded just as horrible as the first one. So we grabbed a third new wire in the pack, and the same thing again. We went through 6 packs and ALL of them were faulty/bad wires. I kept telling them I had to go and could we please hurry it up. Why does it have to take so long to do a simple exchange?? After an hour of them fiddling around with audio cable after audio cable, I finally told them I had to go. Kazara then says she has to go on break/clock out in the middle of this exchange process. I begin to regret coming here, as I realize that I'm probably not going to get out of here anytime soon with these folks. Ray is back and forth helping another customer and trying to show Kazara how to do this exchange process. There were only 2 other people, so it wasn't busy at all. I keep stating that I need to go and it's been over an hour now for a simple exchange. We determined that they have a bad batch of wires. So Kazara and Ray the manager grab another higher priced audio cable, also the same brand Livewire Elite EY9SQ 9FT audio cable and Ray states that since this one works fine that they'll just exchange this one and won't charge me the difference, due to the inconvenience. Then another man with dreadlocks comes to the counter out of nowhere in an authoritative manner tells me that I will have to pay the difference of the higher priced audio cable and that he will absolutely not refund the item. Excuse me??? (I am told later his name is "Justin") Now I have to go through this whole explanation all over again with the REAL manager standing right there. Who is the manager and who is the employee here???? By now my patience has run out and I'm sorely pissed and repeat that I am not comfortable with this Livewire brand in the first place and this higher priced audio cable is not really what I need or was looking for in the first place (it has 2 audio outputs instead of one and it's only 9 feet). I was willing to settle for it, because the REAL manager Ray offered it as compensation for this inconvenience. But that I was not willing to pay extra for a brand I don't know, nor trust. So "Justin" stated that he'll just refund my money and that he will not honor the previous agreement made between the manager and I. He attempts to hijack the whole exchange process that Kazara and the manager Ray were working on with me. That was the last straw. That's when I call Guitar Center Corporate on my cell phone right then and there and walk off into a corner to file an incident report and let them know about this. By this time an hour and a half has passed by. These people wasted my time with meandering around and then this fake wanna-be manager "Justin" comes out of nowhere makes it so that now corporate is breathing down the entire store's back. Although I do like this store, I won't be back so soon, especially if all I need is a simple audio cable. I'll head to radio shack or order it from Musician's Friend instead next time. read more

My experience is always pretty good at this Guitar Center. Usually nothing too spectacular, Always professional, sometimes reeeally great. Being mainly a drummer, this review in particular is about the drum department at this location and to qualify it even more, about Andrew in the drum department. The last two times I've been, he has been the quintessential helpful employee: very knowledgeable about the latest products you're interested in and always friendly. Often times when I go shopping for gear, I feel almost pressured by the employees to buy-buy-buy, even if it's not something I'm keen on. Never once have I experienced this with Andrew. I feel comfortable telling him what I need and want and if it's not in stock, he'll help you find it at another location and order it for you. Thank you Andrew! I'll definitely be coming back to this location for my drum equipment needs. read more

Website says store hours were updated recently hours say open until 9 go to the store at 8:35 p.m. the whole staff at Pasadena says that they are closed due to covid protocol or something with no signage or nothing stated on the website basically I feel like everybody there was just lazy and wanted to go home and so they were rushing me through the whole experience and and arguing with me about what their policies were eventually it was allowed to go into the store but didn't have a pleasant experience. Staff was laid back but helpful and knowledgeable... not pushy at all. A couple of guys were hanging out testing guitars and all was cool. Came here on a cold weekend morning because they were the only music shop open (let's face it--mom and pop shops can't open that early anymore.) was looking for some basic piano method books for my students, and was disappointed--MAJORLY disappointed--at their piano selection. It was literally only a few shelves big (probably less than 20 books on do-it-yourself piano instruction.) NO method books in stock. I get that it's called "Guitar Center" and not "Piano Center", but don't they pride themselves as a MUSIC shop? What's the point of having music shops if they can't serve music teachers? I drove out to Pasadena GC hoping for a better customer experience than I've had at my local GC in Sherman Oaks. Unfortunately, the Pasadena GC salesman who rang me up - 105420 Robert JM. - was rude, argumentative, impatient, unwilling to explain a complicated transaction (due to trade in items), and spent half of the transaction trying to bully me into buying accident insurance. He didn't take no as an answer the first 3 times, then challenged my assertion that my credit card company provides protection. This was bad enough, though not unexpected at GC. But things got worse when I noticed, after walking to my car, that "Robert" charged me an additional $30 to repair one of the items I'd traded in. This was after the crew leader had processed my trade ins and gone over the trade in value minus restringing charges. In other words, the $30 that "Robert" charged me had already been factored in. When I returned to the lobby to have "Robert" correct his error, he continued to be argumentative, dismissive, and totally unwilling to treat me with respect. He was unconcerned with ensuring my satisfaction. When a manager came over to try to resolve the problem, "Robert" did not let me explain and immediately related his faulty understanding of the issue to his supervisor. I insisted on speaking with the crew lead whom had processed my trade ins and then explained the situation. The crew lead went and found his notes from the sale and confirmed that I WAS EXACTLY RIGHT AND SHOULDN'T HAVE BEEN CHARGED AN ADDITIONAL $30. To his credit, the crew leader acknowledged and took ownership of the error and immediately made things right, refunding the $30 + tax overcharge. Unfortunately, the crew lead was the exception vis a vis good customer service. GC really ought to better train their junior employees, like "Robert", instilling in them the reality that customers must be treated deferentially, transparently, and honestly, in order to ensure return business. Winning an argument with a customer is pyrrhic at best, and more commonly loses the ultimate battle for sales. Who wants to be bullied by a salesperson at a cash register? Why should I go back to GC Pasadena? Why should I expect a different experience than what "Robert" provided last week? I hope management at GC Pasadena - and at all GCs - takes this to heart. read more

Came in here to look for some headphones. I was promptly greeted by one of their sales persons. He helped me look for the headphones, which we found out they don't carry. He offered to show me some other comparable headphones, but I declined since I was set on those particular ones. He then said that they could order it from their headquarters and give me a little lower price, but I said it's okay since I wanted to research a little more. A week goes by and I find out that they carry it on their website. So I call the store and ask if they price match against online websites. My call was transferred to some bimbo. As soon as I got on the phone, he told me that he was helping someone on the floor and that he can't talk for that long. So I said okay and I asked him my questions. I swear I took only maybe 3 minutes and this guy just kept trying to brush me off. When I went into the store the week before, there were A LOT of sales people. I don't understand why someone else couldn't have helped me instead of this idiot. Anyways, after asking 4 questions he told me that they can't price match against stuff that has to be ordered. He then told me ," You're better off ordering it online." And I replied, "oh, okay..." Then he hung up. No goodbye or thanks or whatever. Gosh! That's the last time I'm going to their store. The whole 3 minutes I talked to him, I felt like he didn't care for my business at all. A complete 180 from the dude I was talking to in the store. In the end, GuitarCenter.com price matched the item for me. I just think the guy I talked to on the phone didn't give a shit about me. (excuse my language). I would give the place 1 star, but the guy who helped me the first time was really nice and helpful. So I bumped it up to 2 stars. ------------------------------------------------------------- edit: So I lied. I said I would never come here again, but I wanted to buy a bass amp. I came to this Guitar Center since they're the closest one to me and it was the most convenient place to buy this particular amp combo. I should have gone elsewhere... Anyways, when I got there most of the salespersons were occupied, but not all. The last couple times I was there, someone always came up to me asking if I needed any help. However, on this day that I actually needed help, nobody came to me. After about 10 minutes, I was able to flag down a salesperson and asked to buy the amp. It was a simple transaction. Just because most of the people they were helping were older or kids with parents doesn't mean they should be helped more than me (a 21 year old Asian dude). I mean seriously. I was standing right by the register in the bass section and the sales people were helping other (older) people before me. I was thinking about leaving the store, but it would've been too much of a hassle to visit the next closest Guitar Center. I may come here again, but only for something small or for a warranty service. read more

Back when I was attending Art Center and lived in South Pas, I used to hang out at this Guitar Center to practice my drumming all of the time, for at least two hours upon each visit. (Or at least when I actually had the time to practice.) I lived with roommates and couldn't have my kit with me. Now I live in an apartment building and still cannot have my kit with me. None of the employees in Pasadena ever bothered me about hogging a particular electronic kit or beating the crap out of that $1700 Yamaha model that I couldn't afford. One of the guys who worked there was one of the nicest employees I've ever met. He gave me a spare bass drum patch he had laying around, and a Gibraltar magnet off of one of the displays. Whenever I needed some help I got some great recommendations. Now that I've moved and Guitar Center Hollywood is the closest GC where I can go and practice, I realized what a difference 15 miles or so makes. GC Pasadena is so laid back and I was totally comfortable just hanging out for a couple of hours and keeping my chops up, or talking to guys in the drum department. I *cannot* stand to be in GC Hollywood for more than about twenty or thirty minutes. The employees there are extremely impersonal and the vibe I get is generally uncomfortable, like "buy something or get out." I kinda almost feel like they're always watching me suspiciously as well, and can't wait for me to leave. I never felt this way at Guitar Center Pasadena. Oh well. I'm almost considering making the trips out here whenever I get the urge to just go and play. I'll be sure to give them my business whenever I need to purchase stuff as well. I guess this is one of the few things I miss about Pasadena. read more

Not sure why this spot has such poor reviews. Been here several times, guitar centers are always fun to hang in, and frankly service at any guitar store is always gonna be a little hit or miss. But for the most part the staff I've encountered there have been really nice and helpful. Got my guitar setup done quickly and efficiently same day when lots of other places couldn't. Have spent hours in the acoustic room shopping around and picking the brains of employees. Paul in guitars was particularly friendly and helpful. Be nice if they had some more unique brand guitars but overall there's still tons of great stuff there! read more

Ahh Guitar Centers in general are funny places. There are those kids that think they're Eddie Van Halen busting out some "wild" and "groovy" solos on guitars they're never going to buy and then there's the employees who are total idiots and can't be relied upon for any useful information. Since I'm mainly into drum and percussion, that's what I'll focus on. The drum department in the Pasadena store is better than at most GCs because they stock it with some decent stuff, the best part being the cymbals. Some of the clearance stuff isn't total crap either. The worst part is the people banging around on the acoustic drums. No shit, you guys really suck...why advertise such a thing in such a brazen manner to the rest of us who like to buy drum products? I see one of these people has reviewed this place here: boo-ho I'm glad you don't come in here any more to "practice for hours". I'm also glad that the other stores don't approve of your vagrancy drumming attitude either. If you guys wanna play drums/practice rent a space!!! This is one of the less annoying GC locations around because the salespersons don't hound you like in Sherman Oaks or West Covina or Oxnard. Also I like the fact that I can talk these guys down, "Okay I'll buy these three cymbals but only for this price and your gonna throw in some sticks on top." Damn, I'm good. read more

I have very fond memories of chilling out at this particular Guitar Center after school (or during class, shame on me.) For the most part the folks here are nice and tolerate my poor attempts at playing blues riffs. It's at this Guitar Center where I've bought small things like a few picks, a song book, never a big purchase like a guitar or amp. The service is good, the parking is plentiful, the only beef I have is with the selection of guitars inside the shop. You see the electric guitar usuals: Fenders, Gibsons, Epiphones, Squires, but not a whole lot else. During my visits I see a few Schecters, Some Ibanez, and barely any PRS. Sure, it may not be the biggest GC but where are the Danelectros or Rickenbackers? So, I think if you're looking for great Fenders and Gibsons in the area, this might be the place for you. If you're looking for something a little out of the ordinary, you might want to look elsewhere. read more

I have been waiting all year for the big sale on Black Friday, saved all my coupons, went to the store , cash on hand and not one single customer service person would even notice me, I finally waited by the counter and again, not one single person asked me if I needed anything, I finally asked for help and they said my coupons were no good for the sale...So I asked for the guitar I wanted and they were all out to look online...I went home I found the guitar, coupons were no good, I bought the guitar and the next day they told me they were out of stock, One day later they sent me an email telling me that they had a used one with broken parts they were willing to give me a $45.00 discount on a 500. 00 dollar guitar, I said are you kidding me, who wants to buy broken guitars, Needless to say I was very disappointed and refused to go back, for many years I have bought many Christmas presents my Grandkids ..I have spent lots of money, they have my history on record..I just feel they really do not take care of the customers..not to mention it took them a week to get my money back..Adam Wintergerst... read more

I usually try to stay out of GCs especially since I used to work at the Covina location and know all about how the prices and things work...anyways I recently needed to purchase a hi gain amp and thought I should just try to the Pasadena location since I live in the area now and id be able to take advantage of the 30 day return policy in which I did I bought and traded and return probably about 4 heads when finally deciding on a used 6505 head, well things got messed up and but management and my sales guy were able to work it all and in my opinion went above and beyond to help me out (im sure it was because they didn't wasn't to see me back in trading more gear) either way I walked out of there with a brand new 6505+ with the deal of the century. I will deff continue shopping at this location for anything I need... I also fail to give it 5 stars because they have almost no good bass gear in stock, or on the floor at least, I need to soon upgrade my Ampeg SVT3 pro and ampeg 8x10 and they have no options for me to upgrade to. read more

I shopped and was help by the workers! We found everything I needed. Even as I left the security guard asked if I needed any help with carrying everything I bought. (guitar department review only, not relevant to other departments) i purchased a rogue acoustic guitar online, and had it delivered to this guitar center. the staff was very friendly and helpful whenever i called to check on its arrival status. when i went to pick it up they opened the box, and tuned it for me. my cashier, brian m., talked to me about the basics of the guitar and helped me purchase a strap that would fit under the strings so i wouldn't have to drill in a knob. i think it was very important that they're very kind to people who are inexperienced with instruments, and didn't make me feel out of place. i would recommend this guitar center because i feel comfortable coming back here with questions, or to make additional purchases. read more

You can find some killer guitars here and the biggest perk for me is that the selection is much bigger than most music stores. The service here seems to be pretty average EXCEPT this one employee named Gianni (probably messed up the spelling). He is always incredibly helpful and goes out of his way to answer your questions, show you different products that suit your needs, and he's such a likable, nice dude. He was showing me a great semi hollow body and played a little to give me a feel of the sound, and let me tell you that guy knows his stuff. He always takes my visit from average to exceptional. Also the girl working repairs (I forget her name) is great as well if you ever need to get something checked out and fixed. I'm giving this place 5 stars for the selection and the fact that these two employees in particular go way above and beyond to help you out. read more

So my review is based on customer service and how they handled various situations when it came for me to return items. They are very attentive and know what they're talking about. Also, I had to return an item and they made it very easy for me and even gave me a discount for my troubles. The staff is great and everything but I'll say this, they're understaffed. If you go in there on a busy day, it's going to be a long day if you actually want to make a purchase because they're stretched thin at almost every department. But if you do manage to get someone's attention, it's very smooth and they're super friendly and knowledgeable. If you're looking to visit, I'd wait for an off-peak hour (I just don't know when that is). read more

Pasadena Guitar Center has come a long way for me. In the past I would fear the horror of showing up there with any questions and it would be an absolute uphill battle to find help. My last three visits I have noticed quite the opposite. I don't know if it is new management or a fresh batch of employees but they seem to be on top of their game. Each time they have gone out of their way to be friendly, helpful and are right there to answer any questions or give assistance for those hard to reach guitars. It sure beats me staring dumbly and a guitar on the wall or waiting by the help desk for anyone to acknowledge me like I have in the past. I got invited to their grand re-opening last week. Funny enough I was there only a few days ago and did not notice if anything is being remodeled. And so I went in on Sunday, out of curiosity, where the re-opening is on. I was a little disappointed because other than re-positioning the merchandise a little bit, I could not see any big difference. They had a few items on sale, mainly the cheaper range of guitars between $69-$199. That said, when I go to a different store 2 days later, those store had them too. So in short there was only a few items that are marked lower than the rest of the nation. I think that was just a marketing stunt rather than what most other businesses would do... this wasn't a "Restaurant Makeover" thing. So I did not get a better shop experience nor was there any better deals. What I found out was it's probably an event for lessons. I think they are starting to offer lessons there. And funniest thing is, I was never greeted by any teacher there. Yeah, I was confused... so wha's the value to be there if there's no new store, no deals, no lessons pitch...??? Back to the re-opening. Should they do some real remodeling? Probably... after being their for 15 years. If you walked on Colorado you'll see why. The front is the back. And the real entrance is in the back. You'd hope that they should fix the front so that people who walked the front could walk in, or tempted to walk in. It's a mess in the front because it felt like the back alley of a south central. read more
