Braden was awesome! He took us out in February for our first surf lesson ever and was very encouraging, personable, patient, and helpful. I would highly recommend booking with Gulf Coast Surf School!

Braden was amazing . My daughter took a lesson with him this morning -her first time doing surf lessons. He's super friendly , personable, knowledgeable , he made her feel super comfortable and she had the best time . I would definitely recommend this place to anyone wanting to try to surf . We loved it and will use them again if back in the area. Thank you for an amazing lesson and so much fun !

We could not be happier with the experience we had with Gulf Coast Surf School. Our three girls (ages 12, 12, and 8) had a first time surf lesson with Braden and A.C. on Navarre Beach last week. Both of the instructors were fantastic, infused our kids with confidence in their abilities, and taught them the basics on land. Then, they took them out in the waves one by one and did a 'pitch and catch' process where one instructor was with them to help them get positioned to catch the wave and set them off correctly, and the second one would be more toward shore to 'catch' them as they surfed in. It worked beautifully. Our kids never felt like they were out in the waves alone, they weren't intimated by the waves (which, while small by experienced surfer standards, were still significantly larger than anything our kids had ever played in before!), and were quickly able to mount the board to catch the next wave. Even with two of the girls being 'goofy footed' and one being 'standard', the instructors were able to present the instructions in a way that made sense to all of them. All three girls gave the experience two HUGE thumbs up and asked to be able to do it again the next time we are in Navarre/Pensacola. One of the things that was really great is that they can meet you in several places in the area, and one of the spots just happened to be right down the beach from our rental, so we didn't even have to drive anywhere. The transaction was smooth and we were totally comfortable with Braden and A.C. and their skill level/ability to watch over our kids' safety. Braden was communicative ahead of the planned lessons. He called/texted early to let us know that he was on his way to the planned meeting spot to check out the wave action and would let us know if the conditions were appropriate. We will definitely use Gulf Coast Surf School the next time we get back to the area!

    So much fun!

I had so much fun with AC both me and my husband caught waves. I would honestly keep doing it all day if we could. So much fun great instructor very informative and had a great attitude. Took his time teaching us how to do it. (It was both our first time) So much fun I would recommend it to everyone who is thinking about doing it.

I feel completely comfortable letting him take Jack out in the water as Braden is also lifeguard trained.

So I recently went to Pensacola Beach on a four-day vacation with my girlfriend. We stayed in a…read morebeach house rented by a friend and his family. One of the days there we decided we wanted to rent bikes to ride. So I checked my trusty Yelp app and called around. Because of the recent Hurricane Sally and the fact that some of the bridges were out, the only place I found that actually had bikes for rent was The Fun Store. So I reserved three for my myself, my girlfriend and my friend. We showed up to The Fun Store. The employees there were all very friendly (everyone we met in Pensacola seemed to be). They set us up with three bikes. When we went outside to get our bikes, it turned out that my bike had a flat rear tire. I was kind of surprised they didn't check this before giving us the bikes but not too big a deal. I told an employee and he took the bike back to replace the tube on the rear tire. I'm not sure why but it took a long time. Usually, an experienced bike person can change out a bike tire in no time at all. Anyhow, eventually we got the bike back and we took off. We rode for a while and saw some of the beautiful sites along Pensacola Beach. We eventually started back to the shop. At about six miles out from The Fun Store, all of a sudden it got much harder to pedal. I initially attributed this to the wind. At about four miles out from The Fun Store my friend informed me that my back tire seemed to be going flat. Sure enough it was. I was able to pedal a little further but, after not too much more time, the tire was completely flat and I was just riding on the rim. I got off the bike and had the pleasure of pushing it several miles back to the shop. When I got to the shop and told them what had happened, they were sorry but never offered any sort of refund, credit or anything else. Let's recap. The tire was flat when I got the bike. They took it for quite a while and supposedly changed the tube. Then about three miles out the back tire went flat again and I had to walk the bike the remaining distance to the shop. Despite that they didn't offer any refund at all. As nice as they were at The Fun Store, I can't give them more than a two star review. It's unfortunate because their employees really were all friendly. I would not use them again unless I really wanted to rent a bike and there were no other options.

If you ever get the chance to do so and are able, rent a bike, and ride into the park. You still…read morehave to pay to get in, but it's totally worth it. Such a gorgeous ride, it was about 19 miles RT from Pensacola Beach. I recommend you bring spf wear and lotion, an spf hat, some trail mix or something to snack on, and definitely some bottled water. We brought the spf wear and the hat, but nothing else and were fools. Oh yeah, and in case you did not know like me, the tops of your hands will burn, so be sure to cover or lotion those as well. Duh! If you need to rent a bike like we did, rent from The Fun Store, easy peasy friendly and affordable. Also, if you plan to make a day of it, bring your beach stuff too, plenty of gorgeous shore to park yourself on. If you have no accessories, The Fun Store has everything you need. Things to know about the fort, there are bathrooms, some water fountains, a ferry in season, bike racks, a fishing pier, a book store. The lady that works the book store does take a lunch, so she may step out mid day for a break. Also, this is the most important tip, the book store does carry sun tan lotion, and had just added a bottled water machine - hallelujah! That was my saving grace and thank you again to the nice lady working the book store that saved me. As for the fort itself, if you like forts, or civil war history, then you will be right at home.

They also have this super awesome section in the back of the store of cool antique second hand surf shack style home goodies, bamboo, hand woven wool beachy blankets & macrame, dishes, coffee cups etc., great vintage surf style gift stuff all situated around a couple bamboo couches in a vintage Hawaiian surf style "hang 10" hang out area where you can chill. Way cool dude. Can't wait to return. Catch you on the flip side. Highly highly recommend. Queen of Pirate'cola approved.
