We drove past this place on the way back from Gilmore Car Museum. We got wanted take-out to eat in the car on the way home. I wished we lived nearby because this place offers the most incredible homemade Indian food. We got a little of everything. My favorite was the butter chicken and my husband loved the tandoori wings. Their samosas are delicious too, made with crispy puff pastry. We wanted to try some desserts as well and decided on Black Forest and double chocolate. The perfect end to lunch. We had enough left over for dinner later that night. The owner puts a lot of care and attention to making the customer feel welcomed. He explained all the dishes and even gave us a complimentary cupcake. We were thrilled to find this gem. Can't wait to be back in town so we can stop in again. read more

Varun and Bobby catered the food for my retirement party. I work with dozens of international students from India, Malaysia, Thailand, Nepal and many other southeast Asian countries. This review is specifically for the owner and chef of Gull Lake Market. I don't want to hurt the reputation of this place, I want to help them be better and if the food changes I will gladly change this review. First off, I travel extensively for a living and in the last several years have conservatively been to 50-75 different Indian restaurants and some of those many times over. North Indian cuisine, South Indian cuisine I know this food from a restaurant perspective and from dining at good friends homes with Indian mothers cooking. I have eaten at Gull Lake Market twice now, the first with my buddy from Mumbai and today alone with the same result. The food is so bland it is just flat out disappointing... I'm NOT talking heat, I'm talking flavor. It tastes like the chef only used a third of the spices intended for each dish? And the naan, your naan is absolutely like no other naan I've ever had. It's thin, dense, flavorless... where is the real garlic on the garlic naan? Sooooo dissappointing. Will someone else who really knows Indian food please back me up on this and help turn up the flavor here! Just to the south, Kalamazoo has four or five great Indian places and to the north Grand Rapids has several. Your customer base will support real Indian food as it is intended to be preparred. Wow! Great "mom made" Indian food. The buffet makes it possible to try several different dishes as you pay by the pound. We loved the chicken tikka masala, rice flavored with turmeric, made fresh while you wait garlic naan, and a delicious medley of vegetables. There is a separate station with full of flavor chicken wings and drumsticks. We loved every bite...rivals our Indian full service restaurants in Grand Rapids. The young man who owns/runs the market, Armin is helpful and gives good advice regarding the dishes in the buffet. He is obviously proud of this market and should be! Enjoyed some great Indian food from the take-out buffet! The curried lamb was wonderfully spicy and the other lamb dish with kale and spinach was delicious! They also have fresh baked naan, pastries and deserts. All is nestled within a squeaky-clean convenience store which also has a good selection of high-end and unusual bourbons. This is some of the best Indian food I have ever had! It is tucked inside an unassuming convenience store, but they have a clear dedication to making quality cuisine at a great price.
