We had a couple of their dishes catered for our wedding. Which was absolutely fantastic. This was our first time trying this place as a sit down experience. The atmosphere was really nice, music videos on the TVs for background. You can see the kitchen through windows right from your seats. The waiters seemed to work as a team. Who took our order wasn't the same as who brought the food, or who filled our waters. Speaking of water, they serve it at a nice temperature without ice, better for digestion and my sensitive teeth!

Looks better than it is. In all fairness, I'm not posting the my first run through the buffet which didn't look good at all.

Was okay, alright; I guess. First buffet pass wasn't good. Was mostly old and cold and picked through. Second was better but by then I was sort of grossed out by some of the things I saw and I'm going to leave it at that. Plain hospitality. No offer for anything else to drink other than water. Just didn't see the variety or quality I'm used to plus bugged out. Meh.

Authentic Indian food. Cozy atmosphere. There are varieties of different food and flavors. Buffet is expensive compared to buffet prices in Kalamazoo. But the food is very good. I like their butter chicken, Naan bread and the chai masala. They have tasty mango yogurt drink called (lassi) i highly recommend it if you like mango and yogurt. Nice experience in general. The lady who served our table was smiling, helping and friendly. I loved how it is easy and nice to spend the time at this restaurant without even worrying about a server who rush you to finish bcz they want to collect more tips. You can gather with friends, spend time talking, eating slowly and enjoying every bite of food and every sip that chai masala. It felt like doing food yoga rather than normal eating.

We stopped in for the Sunday buffet. The Butter Chicken and Gobi Manchurian were my favorite things! So delicious!!! Which made comparison of Hillside to Kalamazoo's Saffron buffet tricky. The Hillside buffet was $15/person vs Saffron's under $10/person -there were around the same number of options. Hillside served outstanding Butter Chicken and Gobi Manchurian that I now ADORE AND can not get at Saffron. However, Saffron is a bit cheaper and their Raita (yogurt cucumber sauce) is ON POINT! What I think was Raita (unlabeled) at hillside was very thin. If it comes down to I'm having an Indian/Pakistani food craving, I'll probably go to Saffron because of the price. If I'm mad craving Butter Chicken and Gobi, I will cross my fingers it's on the buffet all the time and head to Hillside. Atmosphere: clean with friendly staff. A few of the handles at the buffet were dirty and off-putting with food -but I think a sloppy patron in front of me was to blame.

Love the naan oven. You can watch the naan baking through the window into the kitchen.

I used to be really insecure about eating at ethnic restaurants, especially Indian, because I didn't grow up eating the cuisine. Now that I've eaten at many Indian restaurants across the state and country, I know that some of my concerns are not related to Indian dining, but this place in particular. First, as others have said, it's not normal to charge for rice and maintain prices of $17+ per entree. Second, and more importantly, dine-in service times are ridiculous. Twice in a row now I've waited 45 min+ between ordering entrees and receiving them, and this time, I was basically told it was my fault because my expectations were off and I didn't tell them I was in a hurry. I wasn't in a hurry, but to me, waiting more than 25 minutes or so without any visit from a server (including to refill drinks) is just not great service. This was compounded by the fact that no one around us had received food, but to-go orders were coming out of the kitchen to the front of the restaurant every couple of minutes with urgency. When I quietly asked the manager what was going on, she told me that's just how they do things, then came back to my table again to tell me that my expectations weren't reasonable and I could ask next time for them to bring the food out faster. (To the detriment of other customers? Why not be efficient in the first place?) I will say I haven't tried the lunch buffet. It seems that maybe this place is best for lunch or carryout, since that seems to get their attention at night,

Cleanliness, freshness, variety…read more Every once in a while place will surprise you. I walked into this place while traveling as a soccer parent. The freshness of the produce was the first thing I recognized in the buffet. Normally the texture feels off in a buffet but this reminded me of the freshness of my auntie's garden in India. The chickpeas were not over or undercooked (steam cooked?) and the raita was the rich consistency of home, not the quick and watered down version typical in casual fare. I am vegetarian and cannot speak to the meat dishes, but felt like some real heart was behind the cooking. Perhaps the Naan was the only drawback, losing its texture made in bulk perhaps. But the taste relied less on salt and oil and more on the ingredients and a sense of freshness on many items I might serve in my own home. I cook these dishes at home and on a few I felt like asking for some cooking tips.

The service isn't the fastest. It is good service at the same time. The food came out hot and full of spices just the way I like it. The samosas were flaky with a satisfying vegetable filling. The curry shrimp and fish had a medium plus heat which was just right for me. I would eat here again.

The lamb saag was rich, perfectly spiced, and the lamb was so tender it practically melted. The lamb mushroom curry had incredible depth of flavor -- earthy, savory, and just the right amount of heat. And the butter chicken?
