Never been here before, just checked it out while I visited the Asian store Pacific Rim Foods, this Cravings Deli was attached within the market. I inquired about the menu and the guy behind the counter was helpful pointing out which menu items were vegan friendly. I ordered the spicy miso ramen and I didn't expect much, I thought it would be a plain simple noodles in miso broth. When I got the dish it was an appealing presentation of noodles submerged in miso broth with seaweed, bamboo, tofu and bok choy and scallions. It tasted pretty good, definitely exceeded my expectations, it had a depth of flavor I didn't expect and it was truly a delight along with a side of vegan dumplings was a nice compliment to the dish. I was pleasantly surprised and will frequent this place again. Awesome! read more

Beautiful. My personal policy is that, if you find a cafe inside of a grocery store, you must try it. You will never. I repeat, never be let down. You order at the counter and are given a pager to pick up your food. You can order hot entrees, sweets from their refrigerated counter, and awesome drinks. I ordered the szechuan beef brisket ramen. They let me choose between wide and traditional noodles. I chose wide, and it was perfect. The noodles soaked up the flavor of the broth and held it better than the traditional noodles. The spice level was perfect. It was just enough to have a little kick , but not as spicy as traditional szechuan. It also didn't have the traditional numbing of szechuan peppers. Even though it may not match up to the name, it was freaking delicious. I've never eaten so much ramen in one sitting. I also ordered the "pom pom" special drink with passion poppibg bobba. I feel like this drink would be an antidote to any bad day or sadness. The little pops of flavor gave me so much joy. Loved it! Well in regards to the food it was okay good. I did like the crab rangoon because most crab rangoons I eat back in Chicago or any Asian restaurant the rapper or wonton wrapper they use are fried wrapper tends to be too crispy this one was actually not too bad. The summer or as we say spring rolls here in certain regions as well as the vegan was not that great. They should have put cilantro and mint which most restaurants do. It was kind of blande. In regards to their beef pho it's interesting that they included meatballs and tripe back in Chicago that would be a house or combination Pho. Nevertheless it was okay the other complaint in their pho was that they didn't give enough basil leaves or basil root they gave a lot more of the bean sprouts. It's interesting that when we came here from Chicago cuz we just came from the Air zoo aircraft museum in portage Michigan that this was sharing the same space with an oriental Asian grocery store that they don't address Yelp. It was more of a casual cafe setting after you do your groceries buying Asian ingredients then an actual true sit down restaurant for pan Asian. They shouldn't say it was Vietnamese because they all said Thai dishes and Chinese Szechuan dishes. Ironically with Thai dishes should be spicy like the mussaman curry but it was sweet which is why I didn't order it when I asked the attendant. And yet the kalapi ribs which was cooked Chinese Szechuan style which is known for spicy is not that spicy and according to the attendant when my friend was originally going to order it was really spicy that it makes your tongue tingle once you lay a bite on the ribs. That's ironic. Anyways 3 stars but don't want to do 2 with my friend who treat me here because he told me that it seems that they gave cilantro for the summer rolls and it seems like you have to ask when it should be the standard which is true back in Chicago and other cities I've been to accept here and portage Michigan. Mostly because it was in the mid-60's in the eating area that this is a four star review. Also our potstickers and Lions head scotch eggs were sitting out getting cold before the bahn mi was ready. Cashier/order taker was very friendly. Pot stickers were large and for me had too much dough although they were tasty. The dipping sauce was a tad too salty for me. Lion's head scotch egg meatballs were y tasty and nice to be served on a bed of steamed bok choy. The light brown sauce served with them was very good especially with the steamed rice. The BBQ pork ban mi was extremely fresh with crunchy French bread and just the right amount of veggies. A true find in the heart of Michigan. (Very poor Management and leadership) I am a long stanging and frequent customer of Cravings Deli. When ever I enjoy a place I like to bring guests. This time around I brought some family from out of town and we traveled an hour from where I live. The problem started when the person taking the order of one of my guests stated that the dish that they ordered was too spicy for them and suggested a different (and more expensive) dish. At the end of the day it was not the dish that she originally wanted so we went up to the counter to request the dish they originally wanted. To my surporise the experience turned out to be significantly more dramatic, complicated, and left a sour taste in my mouth. I am a foodie and my costomer experience is really great accross the board. Even when I have made an error in my order the customer experience has been so great and the places i have ordered food from have been more than accomodating and friendly in helping me have a wonderful experience and the food that I want. This was not the case at Cravings Deli inside Pacific Rim in Protage, MI. The same young lady who took our order stated several times that the dish was too spicy and that they had already made the order and it was too late to change. Confused, we asked for the manager and she proceeded to state she was the manager, walked to the back and got a manager (interesting...). Frustrated, we explained to the manager what was going on and we just wanted the dish my guest originally wanted. To my confusion we recieved a similar response and the manager started to talk down to my guest and reapeated that this was not their fault. In no way, shape, or form, did we believe that "they were at fault." We just wanted a great customer experience and good food. Now, visibly furstrated, we waited at the counter while the manager instructed the cook to make the dish we wanted. To our surpise the cook started to argue back with the manager and stated that the dish was already made. To which the manager was clearly frazzled and came back to us with the issue. I'm not sure why, because at the end of the day your the manager and you have a deli/restaurant to run and this is a buisness, not something personal, so handle your cook, done come to us with the peoblems. You're a manager for a reason? Maybe? At that point, because of my own experience and frustration I said "the solution is very simple, we just want a different soup." The manager exploded and then stated "no it's not simple, we already made the food and there is a cost to the food" and ordered the young lady who took our order to give us a refund. For context what was ordered was a soup, and while a respect a buisness and the hustle, at the end of the day the cost to make a soup is significatly less than a fraction of what we paid for the soup. I was shocked and dissapointed at the customer service experience provided, how stingy they came accross, and the lack of leadership exemplified. I will not be returning to Cravings Deli, nor will i ever bring my guests here. I think the owner needs to take into consideration the type of employees they have interact with customers and the type of leadership they want to have in their business. Bad leadership and employees who take reasonable requests from customers personally will make their buisness suffer. read more

I love this place. For a Kalamazoo vegan, this is a solid option. For vegans, most restaurants only have one or two things on the menu, like a veggie burger or something. This place has a several great options. The veggie spring roll is a hit and the mushroom bok choy with tofu smacks. Those are our favorites but there's several other vegan or things that you can ask for tofu instead. The servers are all super nice. The store that the restaurant in has lots of cool products as well. I've spent some time in a couple countries in Asia, and it's nice to try some drinks and snacks from the store that remind me of my time there. 10/10 would recommend read more

The food is amazing. I can highly recommend the vegan dumplings and the Canton noodles with tofu. The pancakes with red bean paste were warm and flaky, and the filling was slightly sweet. If you are a vegan, there are lots of options, just ask the person at the register. I have been here twice and both people were very happy to help. This place is busy. I went on a Friday and Saturday evening and it was a bit loud. That's what I expect from a great restaurant in a college town. You can always take your items to go. One downside, if you are using their restrooms, I presume the locks do not work. Both restroom doors say to knock. I notice that at least one door had a small hole drilled in it above the lock. Not very reassuring when it comes to privacy. I recommend against using the restroom for that reason, or coming with a friend to guard your door. read more

Best ramen in town, easily! I got the fall special Duck Ramen today, it's made with the chicken broth, and I have to say is just absolutely delicious. Moving here from Chicago, I thought I was ruined on ramen but this is my saving grace. Also had the vegan fried dumplings, and my wife had the vegetarian chicken ramen. We loved it all. Separate note, tried boba for the first time and it was also amazing... the woman at the counter (probably the owner) up sold us on most of this and I couldn't be happier that she did. My Portage friends and I got takeout from here today. It's been a cold and gloomy weekend so myself and also my friend's husband both got the beef pho. They have ordered Cravings' ramen before and said it was also good. I haven't had pho in a while (Madison Heights, near me, has a LOT of Vietnamese places so that's normally where I go for that), and this was decent. It wasn't the best pho I've ever had but they do give you a lot of meat - the pho came with meatballs, beef, and tripe, even though we asked for no tripe. The broth was savory and they packaged everything separately (rice noodles, broth, add-ons like Thai basil) which was nice. Overall I'd do takeout from here again but might try the chicken or pork ramen next time. read more

The BBQ pork, Tonkotsu, and Shotu Ramen were quite good. They had lots of choices for boba drinks, but options are a bit limited in other categories. You can buy grocery items like beer to eat with your meal, but the beer wasn't cold when we dined there. I loved my ramen, but would have preferred the soy marinated egg to not be so cooked. A great little place nestled in a market. Excellent food- definitely spicy, which I love, but I realize is not everyone's thing, so be wary of that. The folks who ran the counter were very nice and it was very fast service. Clean and a cute little dining area, with high chairs available for kiddos. Really enjoyed my banh mi, while my kid enjoyed the bao buns. My husband mostly liked the curry but didn't enjoy having to shell the shrimp- but that was our only complaint. Honestly my favorite. It's always hard to choose one menu item. Ramen, apps, other noodle dishes, and always a Vietnamese coffee.

We got a Galbi (Korean BBQ short rips) & a Beef pho with boba teas. Everything was delicious. We got some plum sake at the Pacific Rim (the grocery store) as well! I'm so glad they have pho!!! I tried their ramen before as well. I didn't really like it because it tasted like Chinese noodle instead of Japanese Ramen. Other than that..I'm a huge fan now! :) read more

Great unexpected find for lunch! Was in the area saw it and thought I would give it a try. I am very glad I did. The Cantonese Stir-fry was an excellent lunch and value at $14. Finally had to a chance to try the eatery inside of Pacific Rim! For some reason, I always have the idea to go when they're closed (Monday & Tuesday), but the stars aligned this past week! I ordered classic Taiwanese/Chinese dishes: *Yo Po Mian (Wide wheat noodles and seasonal vegetables topped with chili oil and aged vinegar) - This is a classic easy, peasy noodle dish. A bit tangy and spicy. I got medium hot and was surprised there was actually a good amount of heat. For $6, it's an incredible deal because it's a pretty large bowl of noodles. *Scallion Pancake Beef Rollups (Pan-fried scallion pancakes brushed with a mildly spicy homemade sauce, topped with thinly sliced cold marinated beef, cilantro and green onions) - This dish is one of my favorite dishes of all time. It's kind of like a chinese burrito/wrap. The sliced cold marinated beef was great here -- lean and flavorful and not dry. Craving's version is a bit more like a taco. Also, the scallion pancake looks more deep-fried-esque to me than pan-fried but it's delicious so I'm not complaining. Came in today for shrimp udon and triangle kimbap the food was good however the cleanliness was lacking. Specifically, when I picked my order up at the counter I asked for sweet chili and when the server was giving the small container to me I noticed a large white hair on top that was stuck to the small cup. The server took the hair off which grossed me out. I asked that the container be thrown away the server asked why should we throw away when the hair was on top and was taken off. I advised hair stuck on a food product was unsanitary and if they didn't know that I am concerned. It appears the server put it back under the counter to be given to the next person. Triangle Kimbap although tasted good the wrapping appeared to be slacking as I have noticed the wrapping is open at the top exposing the food (crab) to the atmosphere. Hope no food poisoning. My poke bowl was really good. Fish was great quality and fresh, vegetables crisp ...I almost ordered something else but i am glad i didnt. I had lemon ginger tea and some miso with my meal. I think the food is always high quality, but I ordered a bahn mi sandwich and it came on a hoagie type bun. The reason I don't make bahn mi at home is that I can't buy the bread locally and it is the bread that defines the sandwich. Would you make a reuben on a brioche bun? They should have a prominent disclaimer about the bread or leave it off the menu.
