It is really astonishing that they've managed to keep their eyebrow-threading price at $5 after all these years amid the pandemic and inflation, while I've seen some other places raise their prices significantly (ie, $5 to $10). I've been coming here pretty consistently for the last 6 years. I initially did not like this place that much until a newer lady (never got her name, just knew by face) joined in 2018 and started doing my brows, and I was so amazed by her carefulness and gentleness that I had a hard time being sent to the other ladies working there and would even queue up for as long as 30+ min so she could thread my brows! I even had a hard time going to other threading salons because she was so good. She left a few months ago and every time that I come here now and get a different lady, I'm literally just on the edge of my seat with lots of anxiety that they don't hate me and mess up my brows because I had a strong preference for my threader. They turn out fine most of the time, but I experience redness from the pressure they put on with the thread and constantly working on the same spot. It's a hit-or-miss place and it always hit when my favorite threader worked on me but now it's literally a gamble between hit or miss when I get thrown to the first available lady. Still, can't beat the $5 price for decent threading and they probably don't have any competition for that price point. read more

It's gritty, it's grimy, but Gulzar and his ladies know what they're doing. Fancy folks can check their superficiality at the door, this is all about facials and hair removal for a cheap price. It gets busy here during peak hours (afternoons) any day of the week. Weekends can be tough because there is usually a wait and this is probably one of the few places I've seen more men than women on more than one occasion (#1). It's no fancy salon by any stretch. The place looks and feels a bit dingy and dodgy but this is where locals go in this hood. There are a handful of chairs / stations all situated close to each other, including one room in the back for the more discrete hair removal sessions. $5 for all threading means equal status for all genders. Pile on another $10 and facials via an overhead steamers are possible. What keeps Gulzar busy is the excellent service and great prices, the only thing they need is some crowd control. There aren't enough chairs for people to sit and the traffic at the door is maddening at times. I mean $5 for eyebrow threading you can't go wrong. 1 star was taken away because I came here one day when they were about to close and they did a rush job and I ended up with uneven eyebrows I was very upset and the lady didn't even know how to fix it and made it worst. My go to is Rena for eyebrows & facial. Their facial is $25 which isn't too bad. Parking around is difficult, but the 74st Roosevelt is right across from the place so very easy to get to by subway. read more

I am not committed to any eyebrow place but will say the spots in Manhattan left me with very uneven eyebrows. Had mixed experiences with Long Island/Hicksville area as well. I wish my eyebrows were sisters or even cousins but half the time they do not want to be related or look symmetrical as possible on my very asymmetrical face. Any way I chanced up on this place and wow was it awesome. I do not remember who did my eyebrows but she did an incredible job - was very slow and meticulous and shaped those babies up (not to her credit the previous brow lady had built a decent eyebrow template for her to follow). I came here because they have some great jewelry stocked in their windows and the prices are semi decent. I bought a beautiful set here for about $60, marked down. However, my biggest complaint about this place has to be the staff. When I bought the necklace, I wanted to show my father before purchasing. I told her it was for my engagement party and that my dad wanted to see it before I purchased it. She refused to have me photograph it until I basically explained my entire situation. It's such a ridiculous policy, considering that all their jewelry is stocked in the windows and anyone walking by can take as many pictures as they'd like. I'm all about small businesses protecting themselves but this policy is somewhat ridiculous. Another time, my friend was looking for a bindi in a specific color and one of the girls at the shop refused to help her look through her stock. She kept saying that the color she wanted wasn't in stock while it was sitting in plain view. My friend literally took it out in front of her and she agreed to ring us up for it. She really just wanted us to buy any bindi and was way too lazy to show us what was in stock. It's just quite strange that I have had such offputting interactions with the staff at this place. Gulzar Beauty Salon is my holy grail for eyebrows! I've been traveling over an hour from Brooklyn for years. The salon is huge with probably over 10 ladies working at any given time. The salon isnt super fancy or high-end by any means, but they're cheap and do a great job. I've never had to wait more than 5 min to get seated, and usually its immediate. I've had different beauticians doing my brows over the years but they're all good. You can give them a general idea of what you want before they begin (eg. thin but not too much space in the middle) but they know what they're doing. There have been times where I felt like the arch of my brows could've been different or they couldn't been thinner/thicker, but most times they do a great job. read more

Really great, absolutely NO FRILLS WHATSOEVER place for threading, waxing, just about any kind of hair removal that isn't via laser. They also provide pretty extensive skin related services and I think henna...but I'm not totally sure. I've only come here for eyebrow threading because let's be honest - $5 brows done by gals that actually know what they're doing is an absolute steal. The staff here is friendly and will do as asked while keeping in mind what is best for your particular face shape. Their hair removal services most definitely warrant at least a 4 star rating, but I knocked it back to three because the signs posted outside completely lie about hair prices. This place is a wide room with hair removal and skin services to the right and a modest, no frills hair salon to the left. When I inquired about their "$20 wash & blow" special that was advertised outside (I asked with my long, thick hair up in a bun mind you) I was told, and I QUOTE, "it's $20 for boy hair". WTF is "boy hair"?! If I had a pixie cut I'd be somewhat offended by that term. It's also a HUGE pet peeve of mine when businesses advertise one thing, sans any sort of fine print, and then change it up depending on the customer. Sure - my hair is thick, long and naturally a blend of soft curly wavey curls and it's understandable that you want to charge me more than $20 to wash and blow it, but then write on the sign "for short hair only". Customers should NOT have to assume that prices are only for certain people and apparently for "boy hair" in this case...let's not even get into culture or languages because her English was fantastic. Also this is random and I'm not taking it into consideration as far as my rating goes, but this place is imis-categorized on Yelp, this ISN'T Flushing Meadows, it's Jackson Heights and the app says I'm too far away to check in even though I was sitting inside. Since I came back to NYC 4 years ago I've been coming to get my eyebrows here. I love that anyone here knows how to clean up a brow. Some of them hurt more than others but they all do the job! My favorite is Angel! I have really sensitive skin and somehow however she does it, it never hurts me! None of the girls have ever engaged in a full conversation with me (which I don't mind) and none of them have ever been rude. Went in today for my first threading. A couple of friends recommended this place. I was told it's very busy on weekends and after business hours, but I walked in on a weekday about 2 PM & there was no wait at all. My brows were so bushy and out of control & asked them just to clean them up. I'm really happy with the end result. I will definitely be going back. I've been to lots of threading places in the city, and I do think that Gulzar provides the best service. They actually do some excellent shaping, and the women there also have great eyebrows (a key thing to look for). I find threading to be the most painful form of hair removal (plucking and waxing both cause me little to no pain), and I feel no different after my experience at Gulzar. It hurt. But, it's so effective and well done, that I'll keep going back. I got my upper lip and eyebrows done. Since they take so much care in shaping and removing every unwanted hair, it took around 10 minutes, which I actually appreciated. Other places take under 5, and now I realize why I was never impressed by threading. Anyway, if you end up not liking their work, it's only $5, so you might as well try it out. read more

This is the best eyebrow threading place in the world. Seriously. I'm from Karachi and I always CRY when I get my eyebrows done. The woman here made it painless! I squeezed my eyes shut and waited for the pain, but it never came. She was done before I knew it. She also completely transformed my over-plucked and uneven eyebrows into beautiful thick brows. When I watched my cousin get her make up done, she turned out looking like a ghost, I was hoping for a natural, light look but they bathed her in powder to make her face look cakey. They styled my hair the way I DIDN'T want it. I've been a customer of Gulzar for many years. I used to come here for eyebrow threading/waxing whenever I came from FL to visit my grandparents in Jackson Heights. Not much has changed since then -- the place still looks dingy and the chair stations are lined up close to each other. Thankfully, eyebrow threading is still $5 and now they even take credit card (min. $10). The staff changes every couple of years so if you find a lady you like, you should stick to her until she leaves! I always use Reena for my eyebrows and more recently for the $20 herbal facials. She has great technique for facials, and she fixed my eyebrow shape. I always get so many compliments on my eyebrows. I highly recommend this Indian salon for inexpensive beauty needs! read more

Ok. I should begin by telling you that absolutely under no circumstances can I be trusted with my own eyebrows. That being said, I have been going to Gulzar for years. A friend from the DR took me here and I have been hooked ever since. N.B. I come all the way from WaHi because the women at Gulzar do a consistently good job on my brows. The ladies in WaHi tend to like the drawn-on brow look, but I don't, hence my trek out to Queens..... COST: 5 stars It's only $5 for brow threading, and I usually tip $1-$2 AMBIANCE: 3 stars It ain't a pretty place folks. WAIT TIME: 5 stars They're fast. The lady that threaded my eyebrows asked exactly what I wanted done. I explained to her how I wanted them thicker and to see what she can do. I've lived in JH for 3 years and have gone to this place pretty consistently. Whenever I have an off experience, I try someplace new but end up coming back because it is right off the train station. I have liked the jobs most of the time, but they are not consistent and the people that do it well, whose names you write down, aren't there all the time. Whenever I go there, they try to add on services, like upper lip threading. I'm like "No thanks but there goes your tip". I do not have a mustache, I have a few hairs but nothing crazy and my skin is dark, yes the light in there is bright and they are especially close, but you offering me a lip thread, is not going to make my happy. But still I returned. This week, I went in. The woman said, hi, you waited awhile, huh. I chuckle... Yep and there goes 1 dollar from your tip. I sit down and she did the worst job in the history of threading. My brows were uneven, the arches were completely different and one side she pulled more out and there were empty spaces. On the plus side, she didn't offer to do my lip, but that is because I started doing that myself (head down in shame). But I was soooooo upset. I told her and of course she said, what are you talking about, I said here and here, and she said oh that is just your brow. Um ok. I never looked like this before. I said whatever, here is 5. I was gonna tip her but decided against it. It looked really bad and why reward a bad job? I am going to go back to Shoba in Manhattan. They are a bit pricey, but it's painless, they actually spend time on your brows to shape it to your face as opposed to just pulling hairs, and they don't offer you services that you didn't ask for to up sales or give people insecurities... I have been doing my eyebrows at this salon for a long time and usually I am very satisfied with the threading. On Saturday, February 11, 2017, I did full face threading/wax and eyebrow tinting. My bill was $35.00 and I left the girl $3.00 tip; because I didn't have enough small bills in my purse. Usually I am generous and leave 15-20% tip. Anyway, the girl who did my eyebrows started to complain in Nepali to her fellow worker that "look I did a big job, and she is giving me only $3.00 tip." (I have given chocolates to the workers in the past, besides tips.) I understood, and felt very insulted, because the way she spoke was very rude. There are so many salons in Jackson Heights, So I will drop this salon and move to a better threading place in the future. Because she was nasty with me. I'm absolutely stunned how this place has any good reviews or that anyone would actually spend time in this place. It's dirty and incredibly questionable. I only walked in because I saw the 50% off facial. Biggest mistake I have made in a while. They have 0 idea how to give facials. I received the worst facial I have ever gotten in my life. It was incredibly un-relaxing and done using cheap foul smelling products. To start off this s**t facial, the lady waxed my nose to remove blackheads. She double dipped (ew) and denied it when I called her out on it. When the actual facial part began and her fingers touched my face I died a little bit on the inside. She had the roughest and most calloused fingers I have ever felt in my life. Imagine someone dragging sand paper over your face.. that's exactly what it felt like. Apart from using foul smelling products when I looked up to the mirror on the wall I could see other people in the salon staring right at me. Awkward not relaxing at all. I couldn't wait to leave. Eyebrow threading was fast and painless. The lady seemed quite experienced with threading and was able to give a nice arch shape to brows. The space is huge, and sort of weirdly huge too - there are so many connected rooms and it was a walk to get to my chair from where I walked in. The prices are reasonable and comparable to most threading spots in the area. I can't vouch for any other service but based on my experience I'd recommend getting threading here. read more

I'm Indian, and I've been getting my eyebrows done in the tri-state area for yearsss. This place is one of the places with horrible service. I think the owner did mine. She kept leaving every 2 mins to play cashier, and it was not because they were short-staffed. I told her specifically to just "clean up," because my eyebrows already had the needed shaping, but this woman did not listen. The worst hair dresser ever. Extremely bad service. Just wanted a light styling and she suggest giving me layers. I asked what kind of layers she'd do? Very condescendingly she said a layer is a layer. When asked for any example, she points at a picture on the wall. I liked what she showed and told her not to make it short. She goes, 'arey yaar (oh man), I won't.' Doesn't know how to talk to a customer. I'm not your freaking cousin or friend to be treated like that. And she just starts chopping my hair without even thinking. I told her again not to make it short, she goes 'arey baba (oh dude), it's not short.' At end tries to razor cut the ends, and I hate razor cuts and immediately told her to stop it. Had to emphasize that it's my hair not hers and I'll do what I want since she kept insisting it'll look nice. She says I know it's your hair, if it was mine i would have razored it long time ago. Unbelievable! My hair was 6 inches long from my shoulders and now the shortest layer is below my ears and the longest layer sits right on my shoulders. This woman needs to work on her listening skills and should be trained how to talk to her customers. Very egoistic and commanding. I always go to do my eyebrows and the girls are great and nice. But this experience will make me think twice next time because I don't want to see the hairdressers face ever. She's very unwelcoming and has a very unprofessional demeanor. I've very particular about eyebrows and I have not had a "professional" touch them since '06. Yes, that's right... FOUR YEARS. I was visiting a friend in Woodside and knew NYC was the mecca for threading and because my eyebrows refused to grow back or take new shape from that disastrous waxing four years ago....I figured it couldn't get any worse. And for $5 I had to try it! I think she did a basic job on my eyebrows that I could fix. It's not bad, but again I am like very anal about them. I always say it's better that take too little, than take too much...you can always go back and fix it yourself. so that's what I'm gonan do. But she did such a good job, that I'm only going to have to pluck like 2 hairs to get the arch I want. So I would recc this place. It's $5 and its generally awesome. If I don't groom, my brow becomes a sparse but all-over-the-place caterpillar. They are able to take that mess and create a shape. I usually use Nadia?
