I had no idea when I hired from Gunnar they would send me a ¨magic¨electrician. Bear with me... I´m especially happy to give my business to woman owned companies! I needed a Ring video security light hard wired into a spot with an existing outdoor light and did not feel comfortable that I could get it right. This took about a half hour and it was up and running. Next, I had a bathroom outlet that wasn´t working, at least it wasn´t working for me, for like three years. Mr Magic plugged something into the socket and it worked perfectly. Hmmmm. Next, I told him my gas fireplace no longer turned on with the wall switch. I had been creaking down on my poor knees and pushing the button under the fireplace to turn it on. Mr. Magic flipped the wall switch and it roared into life. Two years of crawling around to start it. Two. Years. Magic, right? Finally, I needed an additional wall outlet in my front entryway, a few feet below an existing switch plate, so he neatly carved a hole in my wall and hooked up a new outlet, wiped away all the dust and I was all set! Four projects melted into two. I highly recommend Gunnar, although be aware there´s a trip charge. Their office is 2.6 miles from me and the charge was $30. Overall, the cost for the work was reasonable. Especially if you get a magic electrician! read more

The scheduling is unreliable. I scheduled a day and a time slot for an electrician to come. The scheduled time came and went , and no one arrived. I called the scheduling line and there was no record of a service request. read more

I tried using these guys against my better judgment. I wanted to do a number of things such as installing 3 new outlets, installing 11 new recessed lights, installing a car charger in my garage for my Tesla, fixing a broken outlet, and moving an island in our kitchen. They don't do free estimates, and but did ballpark an estimate of $1500 to install a 220V charger for my Tesla. These should be about $500 max from other quotes I've received. This told me that they simply did not want my business. I gladly spent my money somewhere else. read more

Called a few local electricians during a recent snowstorm, as had a tree fall and do damage to my electric feed to the house. (Lost power/No heat) I tried other contractors, only to be told 48 hrs- maybe to getting someone here. Not so with Gunner- Great customer support and communication. Elizabeth the scheduler adjusted their crews workloads to get a guy (Steve) to my house withing two hours! It is difficult to believe that the Dec 2015 post from a person in Texas is referring to Gunnar Electric in Minnesota. Here's my experience: Dolf from Gunnar Electric was sent out to our house after a major storm. We needed all the wiring on the main level replaced. He pulled new wire, upgraded all wiring to current building code, and worked with us to add new lights. Dolf was friendly and tidy (a BIG plus when dealing with subcontractors). He also shared his industry experience with recessed can trims and LED lights. Working with the Gunnar Electric team has been easy. read more

I would give zero starts if I could. Extremely disappointed. Needing an external outlet repaired before hosting a graduation party this weekend and working on a short timeline. First, was told the service tech would call when they were in route as we would need to leave work to meet them at home (5 minute drive), but no...they didn't call until sitting in our driveway thus starting their clock running as they bill per hour ($145/hour). Then the real disappointment was being told they couldn't even fix it. Told us to get a handyman instead. So yeah...charged $145 and they couldn't even fix the issue arranged to be fixed. I had even said when setting up the appointment that the outlet was basically hanging out of the wall and that I had pictures that I could send them - but I was assured it would be fixed. Nope. Wouldn't even try. Absolutely rip off!!!! read more

EXTREMELY MISLEADING PRICE QUOTES - My husband called Gunnar Electric to get a price quote for an electrical panel upgrade that we needed because we were doing a kitchen remodel and know we need additional circuit breakers for each appliance to bring it to today's code. Terry Walters, the Vice President, quoted us at $2750 for the job. We paid in full for the electrical panel. Dolph, their electrician, did a great job. We decided to have additional minor work done by Gunnar - undermount lights, install pendant lights (we purchased), relocate one of our can lights, switching outlets from cream to white (we purchased all of the switches), and relocating the outlets for appliances. Image our shock when the invoice for the new services included $2401 for materials (additional charges for labor)! I spoke to Terry, assuming there was some sort of invoice error, and he told me that the reason for this big material cost is that our original price quote for the panel did not include the actual circuit breakers needed for the kitchen appliances and those breakers cost about $400 each (4 breakers total- stove, microwave, fridge, dishwasher). Which makes zero sense considering that was the entire reason we needed a new electrical panel to begin with! I ask Terry why Gunnar Electric did not either tell us that there would be additional charges for the basic circuit breakers or include those circuit breakers in the original panel price quote. Terry told me that he could not possibly know what appliances we would have in our kitchen remodel, so would not know how many breakers we would need. Now, I would understand extra costs had additional breakers been needed for additional appliances, like a double over or a wine fridge, but we did not add additional "unexpected" appliances. So he's telling me that as the Vice President of a company whose business is to provide electrician services, he does not know to include circuits for basic appliances (dishwasher, fridge, stove and microwave) in and electrical panel upgrade done specifically for the purpose of a kitchen remodel??? No, I don't believe that. We are not licensed electricians, and did not know to ask about circuit breaker price in addition to the panel. We trusted Terry to include what we needed in the original price quote. And Terry knew we would need to have separate circuits for our fridge, stove, microwave and dishwasher on our panel upgrade, yet he chose not to include those circuits in our original electrical panel price quote (or let us know that there would be additional charges for circuits). And I believe he did that to ensure that Gunnar Electric would under-bid competitors and secure our business, rather than choosing to give us a quote true to what we would owe. Well, that's a great way to get one-time business, not repeat business! And certainly not a way to get referral business! As customers we felt lied to, so I spoke with Laura Karow, the President, about it. I told Laura about the situation and how Terry told us the large material cost on our second bill was due to the $400/each cost of the appliance circuit breakers, so $1600 total (which I stated the total price in our phone conversation). While on the phone, Laura agreed to reduce our bill by the price of the circuit breakers. However, when she sent an email to confirm the price reduction, the email agreed to reduce our bill by only $178 and attached an invoice of the breaker invoice from her suppliers for reference. I left a voicemail to try to resolve the issue. I also emailed back, to let her know that $178 was not the deduction off of the bill that we had discussed on the phone. We had agreed to reduce the bill by the $1600 that we were charged for circuit breakers on our invoice, not the price their suppliers charge Gunnar. And she emailed back lying that I said $400, not $400 each. The lack of integrity we've experienced at Gunnar Electric is astounding! read more
