Dale can be perceived as rude - I get that, but consider that you are there to buy a gun or accessories. His selection and prices are good and understand he is a one man show who fields silly questions by phone or by those who enter his shop knowing little to nothing about guns. I came to this shop to purchase a GLOCK pistol. The price was right and there were ZERO hassles doing business here. I was very impressed at how much inventory they had stocked up in that tiny store! Honestly, neither my wife, nor I, can figure out why there seem to be some poor ratings of Purcell. Over the past four years we've had occasion to shop there, purchasing two firearms and having two others delivered to Purcell from other licensed dealers. Each interaction with the owner has been polite, courteous and professional. At no time have either of us witnessed rudeness to customers. Just today I picked up a CX4 I ordered shipped to Purcell. The owner was there alone, and despite walking another purchaser through filling out the necessary forms, answering the phone, etc., I was still out of the store in less than twenty minutes. During that time I saw him patiently discuss various accessories with the other purchaser, and suggest options for the young man to save some money. All in all, this is a classic local small business operation. I think Purcell is a credit to the town of Purcellville, and I would not hesitate to recommend the establishment to anyone seriously considering the purchase of a firearm or accessories--at whatever level of expertise. read more

A lot of people don't like the owner to Purcells because they say he is too grumpy. Dale, the owner, is a good guy and is very friendly and knowledgeable. He just dose not appreciate false war stories or other annoying conversation topics. Stick with asking questions related to what you are looking for/ at and you'll see what I mean. The pricing at Purcells is much more reasonable than at Loudoun Guns in Leesburg. Purcells also sells military surplus items at good a very good price. read more

Good guys/gals. Very fair pricing and did not try to sell me on a bunch of stuff that I did not need. People often go to the gun show thinking they are getting a "deal" which is not so much the case any longer. I recommend finding one dealer you trust and sticking with them. read more

Go to Loudoun Guns or G & S Wild Country Outfitters in Woodstock, VA and pay the extra money, well worth it. Most people that walk in may be taken back or offended by Dale and walk out before they get an opportunity to have one of the best and most interesting experiences in a gun store that they ever had.. Most of you think you are "entitled" to shop here. If you ask a stupid question you will get some sarcasm. Awesome place. I drive a half hour from my home to do business here. Even though there are only two guys there, they do their best to help you, not an easy task when the store is full of people. If you're expecting to go in and find a slick, polished veneer, staff with people ready to tongue you clean so you will buy a 2,000$ rifle, go to Virginia Arms.They love overpaid yuppies. Nice small gun shop in Purcellville, VA. Great variety of pistols, shotguns, and rifles. Huge selection of ammo and accessories. Why my poor review? Dale, the owner is not a nice guy. Very condescending and kind of an all around ass. My 9 year old son and I went in to check out the store for the first time and simply ask if he had any Glock 17 or 19 mags in stock as obviously no one else anywhere does. He did indeed have 2 Glock 19 high cap mags (15 round) in! When I excitedly asked how much, he replied with $60.00. I paused and made a "I don't think I want to pay that much" kind of face. He immediately added $10.00 to the price. I tilted my head in confusion and he added another $10.00 to the price. He then informed me that he would keep adding to the price if I kept making "those funny faces". He then proceeded to walk out of the store to run an errand. I understand market driving prices. I know all about capitalism. I don't blame the man for increasing prices. Simple economics-supply and demand. I had seen on the Internet prices around $25.00 per mag, but none in stock. I was shocked at the price. I'm sure he will have someone else pay his inflated price. I think I'll wait. I have heard from others about this arrogant a-hole, but I do not like to judge based on someone else's opinion. I will not go back to this store. Great shop with a widely varied selection of firearms. From personal defense to hunting this shop has it all. They also stock any ammo that you need. They already have quite a supply, but if you tell them what you need, they'll keep ordering it for you. If you are looking to just play with every gun you see just to hold it, then go to gander mountain. Once you decide what you are looking for, go in and ask. You will then find that the prices are much cheaper than any big box sporting goods store. Also cheaper than the surrounding small gun stores. The owner is a one man operation with no other help. I guess that's why the prices are so good! The store is small but packed to the ceiling. Cases of ammo everywhere! If you are "just looking", tell him that when you go in. Women beware! My wife (an NRA member) went there to buy a Remington 870 shotgun, which is an excellent weapon used by militaries around the world. They treated her like an idiot and directed her to a gun she didn't want. When she returned it (unopened), they charged her $100, claiming it was now a used gun -- even though nothing had ever left the box. Very disappointing experience. read more

Must be two Purcell Guns in Purcellville, because the one I've been going to (or trying to) is anything but the friendly and accommodating atmosphere described in some of these reviews. Dale is certainly NOT friendly. If you can get more than a "yes" or "no" out of him, it's usually just to add some sarcasm or criticism of you or the patron who just left. Yes, the prices are pretty good. And, yes, if you know what you're looking for, can come in and find it, make the buy, and get out, then it's a decent place. Do NOT expect any friendly customer service, willingness to identify and address YOUR needs or interests, or assistance in finding the "right" choice for you. Need proof? If you buy a gun from anyplace else (e.g., online) that is the same as one Dale carries in his store and need him to conduct the FFL transfer, he will charge DOUBLE ($100) the transfer fee. Is that a business requirement? Nope. Just vindictive. read more

The owner of this store will not attempt to help you unless you are a friend. I called in December 2012 to inquire if he had an ARs, and was told, "Yea we have a bunch, but I will not discuss price over the phone." When I arrived, it was a solid 15 minutes before the owner would even acknowledge my presence, though there were no other customers in the store (he was eating). I then asked him about his inventory; he had 5 bushmasters, 2 stags, and a rock river on the shelf. The prices he asked were $2500, $2200, and $2900 respectively for NIB basic guns. The owner was not willing to negotiate on price (though dramatically over-inflated), and I believe this was because I did not know him personally. He swore to me that I would not be able to find an AR anywhere cheaper, so I left. I found a Colt LE6920 THE NEXT DAY for retail price ($1220) at another local store! Just because a gun shop can ask more than double what guns should list for, because some people are willing to pay right now, does not mean they should. Poor customer service and high prices- avoid Purcell guns! read more

The guys who work here are ridiculous. I've never been to the shop before and had some time this morning to go check it out. As soon as I walked in I heard an older gentlemen looking for some advice on a good weapon for home defense. The guys behind the counter talked to him like he was an idiot for not already knowing and offered him no advice or guidance. I wasn't in the shop for more than 5 minutes into that conversation before I walked out. The gentlemen came out after me and I was talking to him about it. He told me that he is new to firearms and wants to learn and be safe at the same time. As a former Marksmanship instructor in the USMC, I offered what help and advice that I could. This man was trying to do the responsable thing and seek help before he just went out "Guns a blazzin". It's men like the ones who work in this shop that give firearm owners a bad name. It's our responsability to help people who want to learn and teach them safety and handling. Shame on these guys for turning their backs on someone who was seeking help. Oh, and just to add... Had these guys offered him any advice, he had almost $1,000 ready to spend on a new firearm there. Irresponsable and careless. So I should say one positive thing... The store had a decent selection.
