They cross state lines, so complaints can be filed with the DOT. On our trip to New York, the first bus was 30-40 minutes late. The second driver then nearly caused two accidents and drove excessively over the speed limit. Both drivers were reckless and should be monitored by state troopers and fined. If anyone is ready this, and knows a few state troopers, because it's insane. Especially the way the driver went through the toll booth, he was driving at such a high rate of speed, I thought he was going to hit the toll booth. Insanely dangerous. For our return trip, the bus never even showed up. We are now forced to dispute the charges with our credit card company and are warning everyone we know to stay far away from this company. We travel to New York several times a year for business--usually by train--but decided to give this bus company a try. That was a huge mistake. I cannot believe how unprofessional they are. Reckless driver!! Bus 612 nearly ran over my son and I at Woodrow Wilson rest stop on the afternoon of 8/11/2024 pulling into a spot at a rapid speed. Seemed purposeful to have us dive out of the way, one of us to each side of the oncoming bus Driver told us to "learn how to walk". Very dangerous. read more

Seen this company on Groupon for 33bucks plus 25% off so almost 25bucks after discount. That's 12.50 each way. Had to go. The pick up locations are very convenient. Safe & Well-lit parking. The bus got there on time. The driver was friendly. The bus looked like a fairly newer model. If you're a "bodybuilder" like me. The middle aisle is a little small so you might have to turn to the sides to get to the back. The seats have some leg room. But the width of the seats is something else. My right arm since I had the window seat on the left side was clearly 20% into the other persons seat even with the arm rest. The other person didn't show up so I had both seats to myself..... The bus had very good heat thru the entire bus. There is a bathroom onboard also as well as two AC outlets on the window side below. The overall ride was pretty nice and not bad. For 24bucks or 33bucks. People have to realize this is not the Marriott of the road. But more like the Days Inn of the road. I didn't expect that much for the price I paid. Will definitely do again. You can't beat the price for a round trip ticket to NYC. Also the driver was on time going and leaving so that's a plus. read more

Nice going Bus 610 with MD tag 035 P53. Reckless driving on 95 South today near the Fredericksburg/Spotsylvania area. Had noticed this bus weaving in and out of thick traffic on 95 just south of DC beltway; was hoping not to catch up to this vehicle but unfortunately did. Driver passed us on the right and cut us off with only about a foot of space (maybe less) to spare between the bus and our car. You do realize your driver could have killed us and maybe multiple others, including HIS own passengers? Safe to say, we would never be confident to take ANY charter with this company just from what we witnessed on the road today. Oh and checking your Facebook reviews, it would seem this same bus nearly killed another driver recently in a similar manner, last year. Cut them off too with inches to spare. Same driver, or just what is your excuse, Gunther Charters? No apologies accepted, so don't bother. read more

I was supposed to go on a 1-day trip with Gunther to the Bronx Zoo with friends & looked forward to it for months. The night before we left, I tested positive for Covid. Gunther documents were very specific, "If you arrive for a tour with multiple guests in the car with you & anyone in the car ... is determined to have a temperature of 100.4 or higher, all passengers in that group will be denied admittance to the tour. The cost of the trip will be refunded to all passengers affected." I called early the next morning & explained the situation, asking for a refund. "James" was rude and asked why Gunther should have to pay for my trip. I was proactive, based on Gunther's guidelines, and did not expose others to Covid. It doesn't make sense to me that if I had shown up and exposed people that I could have gotten my $135 back, but since I didn't, I'm just out the money. read more

To be fair, 4 stars for the drivers...Nice, professional and easy to get along with. Bus comfort 2 stars and that's high. I recently went to NYC with them Dec 16. The bus interior was clean but omg unless you are short or have NO leg length, it's a hell ride. Seats so close together they should not even be built to recline. I'm 5'10 and my back was pressed into the back of my seat plus my knees PRESSED into the seat in front of me. The bottom of the seat cut off at my mid thigh making it hell. You couldn't even sit sideways or you would be on top of your neighbor. The first 2 rows on either side of the bus had no overhead storage so that took up space for the next row to store things. Then with packages coming on-board it was even worse. Maybe have a different bus model for shopping trips. I've gone with Gunther 3 times now over 20 years and this ride was the worst. Bus 2125 us just uncomfortable. The heat was awful as well. It was too hot on the bus even when trying to adjust the knobs overhead. The shocks were extra bouncy. It took me a few days to recoup erase from the soreness. Also no plugs to recharge phones where other bus company buses I've been on do. Again, drivers were fine but next time, I'll take another bus company. read more

Huge disappointment to learn there is no record of my reservation with Gunther Tours to NYC merely two days before our trip with no seats available! I don't know who they employ to answer their phones or how they're trained ... I got a weird feeling from the guy when I made the reservation in January which is likely why I felt the need to confirm. Then today, the person kept saying, "You could have redeemed your Groupon yourself, we have no way to know." Obviously, you have no way to properly record a reservation a month ahead of a trip. Fortunately, Superior Tours came to the rescue and we booked through them. If you're still reading my rant, take my advice: Don't use Gunther Tours, or buy a #Groupon for their services, totally unreliable! #GuntherTours are super unreliable - -#SuperiorTours are just that, superior. read more

What a pleasant experience. My fiancé and I purchased 2 Groupons for a trip to NYC from the Security park and ride. The trip was so inexpensive. The bus only left a few minutes late from the park and ride and arrived almost a half an hour ahead of schedule in the city. It also dropped us off and picked us up in a central location in the city. We left NYC on time and made it back to the park and ride a half hour early. Our driver popped in The Goonies on the way home. I was very pleased with this service and it is much more reliable than the usual Megabus I take from White Marsh. Will definitely be using this service again. read more

I had booked a tour with Gunthers Charters six months ago. This was a trip to Virginia Beach, VA Sept. 30 to Oct. 2. Due to the weather the trip was canceled. I was called on Wed. Sept. 28th with the information. At that time I requested a refund. Oddly, I was asked did I want them to keep my money for a future trip? NO! On Oct. 4th I called and asked when would I get my refund. I was told they were sending letters out giving people an choice of what to do? What! I told them what I wanted to do. Then the guy told me they issue refunds on the last Friday of the month. I told him I was informed that it was canceled last Wed. Friday was the last day of the month.....why wasn't I issued a refund. It is only good business. Why do they have to keep my funds for a month? Oh, the person that I talked to said I was angry? At no time did I use cuss him out or use get louder than he was. The problem is his company is holding my money. I wonder how he would feel if I were holding his money. read more

I only give 2 stars and that's for the drivers. If it weren't for them, no stars at all. I went to NYC Friday with them on bus 2125. The driver was on time. Friendly, helpful and professional at all times as was the other driver on the way back. Not one complaint about them. Now, for the bus itself. It was SOOOOO uncomfortable. In order to have a comfortable ride, you need to be no taller than 5'3"! The seats are so crammed together it was ridiculous. Like a sardine can. My back was pressed into the back on my seat and my knees into the seat in front. I'm 5'10" and it was almost 4 hours sitting very straight. A lady in front of me pressed the recline button by mistake and I was trapped. She fixed the seat. The heating worked TOO well. I started to get too hot as did my daughter. The shocks on the bus were something. You would bounce and bounce. The first two rows on seats on either side had no overhead compartments so they had to cram theirs in the next compartment with others plus including some bus equipment. Shopping bags were under seats. Only blessing was on the way back some seats were empty and you could stretch out just a bit. The bus has no cell phone charger plugs so it must be an older model. Not sure if there was wifi. Nothing was announced so I assume not. We arrived back a couple of minutes early which was nice. Again, the drivers were great but the buses were awful. Next time I go to NYC, I have to say it won't be with the company. I don't like sardine can seats. read more

My friend and I arrived at 6:33 for our bus home on Gunther Charters and Tours yesterday evening--scheduled to leave at 6:30 (Bus #2124). So, we were 3 minutes late, and our bus driver left without us. On ALL prior bus trips when Hunt Valley ran the company, the drivers always waited for stragglers a few minutes behind schedule, especially at night in an unfamiliar city packed at Christmastime in the rain. We took the subway to Penn Station then took the 10:05PM back home to Baltimore for a total extra cost of $83.00. I called your company, talked to a rude woman and a man who is supposed to call me back. They offered free round trip tickets to another couple that were also left stranded, but so far have told me I am getting nothing. They weren't nice on the phone, and I'm waiting for a call back. Better Business Bureau is next on my list. read more

Driver that was "fired" for watching TV on his phone while driving on 95 to NYC is working there again. Just took a group up north and apparently is not a very good driver either compared to the other 3 drivers my wife and son rode with. Good thing I didn't know it was this guy driving because the trip would've been postponed until they sent a new driver. Should be ZERO tolerance policy for taking so many others lives into your hands and acting so irresponsibly. Had attitude with me even when I initially went to put stuff in the bus. The drivers seem to think that bike lanes in Brooklyn are acceptable parking and loading spaces. I have asked them to move multiple times as they are a hazard to people on bicycles but they refuse, often rudely! Never taking this crappy charter company. read more

Me, my daughter & a friend paid for a bustrip to Cirque du Soleil in Madison Square Garden. I was the first to arrive at Gunther Charters in Harmans, Maryland. There was no bus...so I walked up to the office and the man says, "where you going?" I told him New York. He said "Oh that trip was moved to next Saturday. Everyone's been called. But you are the third one who showed up." So I said, "Well then I guess not everyone was called." I grabbed my phone called my daughter & friend who were on their way. Neither one had received any call and obviously the two other ladies who were not with me didn't get called. So I called Gunther Charters today and told a tour agent what happened and asked for a credit or refund since we can't go next weekend. Nora in the Tour Department kept saying...."everyone was called". I told her I didn't get a call and neither did four other people! But she insisted and said no refund no credit so I cancelled all my trips for 2011. I will never use this company again. UPDATE: I was called by the tour staff. They sold our tickets and refunded our money. I still will not use their service again because of the way I was treated initially and basically called a liar. read more

We usually take Superior Tours and I now know why. As I sit in front of a group of 8 incredibly loud women, who are bothering the whole bus....this 2.5 hour trip feels like 5 hours. Numerous people have spoken to them with no relief. Superior Bus has a hostess. She keeps things in check. read more

Just wanted to give a heads up if planning a trip. It is on groupon for $33. When booking multiple seats no one cared to mention that it was being offered for $20 less on groupon. We I called back I spoke with the owner who couldn't have been ruder. Her response when I asked to have the difference credited back was "when you go to a restaurant they don't say Hey go look on groupon we have a coupon. My family and I have been using them for year unfortunately we will not ever use them again! Talk about poor costumer service! read more

Don't ever use Gunther's Bus Service. Ever!!! my business paid $880 for 16 seats up and back from the Security Square Park & ride to NYC. The bus was scheduled to leave NYC at 6:30pm. At 6:33pm we had paid our cab and RAN to the bus. We could see the bus at 6:30pm and were only THREE minutes late. The driver refused to let us on the bus and proceeded to get off of the bus and argue with us about being late. We stood there and watched her pull away and leave us. The owner of my company ended up begging another Gunther bus to take us back and he agreed. 4 people from our party was on our bus and the rest are currently on another bus headed back. The bus we are on is scheduled to arrive at the Carney park & ride and we've been told by Gunther's that we're "lucky to be on a bus" and to "get an Uber" to the Security Park & Ride. I'd get it if the bus had left already but it was only THREE minutes and we stood there and watched her pull away. I've never in my life experienced such horrible customer service! read more

We selected Gunther Charters over 3 other services to transport 100+ guests to and from hotels in Inner Harbor to the Maryland Zoo for a wedding. We paid for 2 buses and each were to stop at 2 hotels. The first bus although a bit late due to traffic arrived. The second bus was not only 35 minutes late but skipped one of the hotels entirely and over 20 people were forced to pay for Ubers and Taxis. Additionally, the driver of the 2nd bus stated he had no idea where he was going and when he missed the highway exit, started to backup and freaked the passengers out. Our wedding ceremony was almost 40 minutes late. I got no apology and have yet to receive a response to 2 e-mails to the company. I would never recommend them. read more

Overall, trip was fine. Got to NYC in record time. A few younger passengers took the liberty to pregame (drink) prior to boarding, and this was obvious by a few f-bombs dropped and middle fingers given to one another, but seemed to upset other passengers. We were given explicit details to not be late coming back to the bus because the bus would leave without us, which we had no problem with. He met us at the end of the evening as planned. The younger passengers seemed to advance their pregame party to a post game party, and this was evident by bottles being passed around along with pre-made shots, and the swear jar had runneth over. We were told by the bus driver that we were waiting on a few folks, a total of almost 20 minutes longer than our departure time, and I don't feel most of the passengers agreed with that decision. Took an hour to get out of the city, but I feel our driver did an excellent job getting us back safely seeing there was snow on the ground. I would definitely ride with Gunther again! read more

I have been on numerous trips with Gunther Tours and have always been pleased. They were well-planned and the bus drivers have always been professional. My one complaint comes from today's trip to NYC. It's great that they started offering the NYC trips but they make way too many stops. We left Gunthers at 6 a.m. And we are finally on the way to NYC at 7:55. I normally either go on Superior tours ot take the Bolt or Mega Bus. No additional stops on Bolt and Mega Bus and only one stop for Superior. It great if one gets on the last stop but very painful for the rest of us. Sorry Gunther Tours but I won't be taking your NYC bus again. I'm scheduled to go with Gunthers to Chicago and I know we will have a great trip. read more

Avoid this company. (There is no rating for this). They are completely unreliable. We booked a reservation online and received a confirmation email on Saturday evening for a trip to New York the following Sunday morning. There was no bus at the appointed stop. The company runs buses on weekends but is only available by an emergency number. When contacted about why there was no bus, we were told that the online registration doesn't work (but it accepts the payment) and the driver didn't have us on the list. We were also told that the company does not refund payments, which we plan on challenging, This is the second such incident that I'm aware of with this company. It was reliable until Gunther took it over. (It used to be Hunt Valley Motor Coach--not sure of the owner at that time.) read more

I read all of the reviews for Gunther on Yelp. Half of the ten total fell during the month of December and one was for a 2015 event (irrelevant to our use). The rest had various issues, dating back. My wife and I wanted to see a matinee show in NYC. We found a Groupon and used it to purchase G's tix (be sure to follow the instructions for purchase). The bus picked us up (#604 with a DC line's markings on it) on time both going and coming. Arrival was a few minutes late both ways due to traffic. The bus was clean (trash bags posted), the driver personable enough (shocking how few tipped him) and gave clear instructions on departure from NY and BEING ON TIME! (Not one passenger was one minute late!) The bus sported a clean, unisex bathroom. The seats had electrical outlets (look for them between seats, underneath) and wifi. I am 5'10" and had no trouble with knee or leg room. Our fellow passengers were mannerly and sober. We were picked up (and dropped off) outside Playwright Celtic Pub (heart of theater district) where we had a nice dinner after our show. We had a movie coming home, "The Legend of Bagger Vance", which was a nice touch. We have driven to NYC many times and used Megabus several times but Gunther, on this occasion, was just perfect for us. Would heartily recommend and will consider using again. read more

Took this bus service last week on a trip from Baltimore to Boston to New York and back! The trip was a NIGHTMARE!! The bus started breaking down first day between Boston and New York, bus driver didn't get it fixed or replaced. Next day we broke down on the side of the road in the Bronx and according to the bus driver Gunther said they could not help as it was a holiday weekend. Finally started back up and made it to our destination thinking we would get a new bus in the 4 hours we were at the ball game. Nope came back out and endured a grueling 9 hour 97 degree bus ride home from NY to Baltimore including a 2 hour stop at a rest stop in Jersey. Many of the passengers called Gunther to beg for help as passengers (including elderly) were getting sick from the heat. We were hung up on and treated horribly by Gunther and Hunt Valley Motor Coach. These guys should be put out of business! DO NOT USE!!! Selected this company for our wedding because they offered AC buses for a little less than other companies. Two buses were supposed to transport our guests from the hotel to our wedding site and back to the hotel after. One bus did this without issue, but the other bus was unable to follow their GPS or printed directions to our wedding site leading to our guests spending 90 minutes on a bus for a 25 minute drive. The bus got to the wedding site after the ceremony and the driver tried to blame our guests on the bus for getting lost. The only conversation offered by the bus drivers was about receiving their full payment which we refused (withheld 25% since they failed at 1 of their 4 trips) and would not offer any apology or admission of making a mistake. Got a call from the owner a week later offering no apology and still wanting to discuss the partial payment. Avoid this company at all costs. read more

Do not charter from this company - they are the worst! The bus we chartered broke down (from Baltimore to Florida) during the middle of the night. Had to wait outside on the side of the interstate for hours. Supposedly "fixed" but then the bus broke down again an hour away from destination. Instead of getting alternate transportion, waited for hours AGAIN in the hot sun on the interstate for "repairs". Clearly the bus had problems - why use a bus with mechanical problems on a long trip? read more

Had a trip on Gunther/Hunt Valley motorcoach. Our bus was 30 minutes late picking us up in the morning. Maybe he had to wait for someone, which I get giving a person 10-15 minutes. The worst was coming back from New York. First, he told us we were leaving at 7 instead of 6:30 (not sure why). He got there a few minutes late. Ok, traffic was bad, plan for it, we did! But, we had one group who didn't. Either the driver lied or the people lied...they were supposedly 1 1/2 blocks away in traffic. (Again, plan for bad traffic!) we waited 30 minutes!!! I get waiting maybe 10-15 if they've contacted you but 30?!?! Then we drove around another 20 min waiting. Surprise, surprise, it wasn't a block away like the driver said and they hopped on the bus with bags from stores...hmmm, makes you wonder what delayed them. It's was rude of them and rude of the driver. Again, I get waiting 10-15 minutes but 50 minutes??? What about the rest of us on the bus? What about the extra money I had to spend on a babysitter because we left 50 min longer and had a longer drive through the city. We were suppose to get back at 10:30, we got back a little after midnight!!! If it were a traffic incident or break down of the bus, I get it, it's unavoidable but this was very much avoidable!!! read more
