Still in town visiting (day 6) and have not yet had a slice of pizza, with only a few choice places to go to I chose Gus's. This is still the only place that hasn't strayed from their roots. The others have gotten so big they forgot what a pizza joint is suppose to be. I ordered (2) slices and a drink, square slices. Not sure how to describe it but perhaps a cross between NY and Detroit, it's what you find in this region. This was done perfect with great crust mainly because it's re-heated to give it a crisp bite. Again, this something you don't find anywhere else, I would not recommend it to a pizza snob you have to be open minded and able to except all pizza. This is my go to pizza joint when in town. If traveling on RT49 in P'ville, give it a try. Peace. read more

Yesterday when I sat down in here for the 1st time in a while I ordered food. They haven't changed a bit and I mean that in a good way. Too bad I'm too "big" for the booths otherwise they'd be more enjoyable for me to sit in. Staff were friendly as they were over the years of me dining here. read more

Obviously they are not Italian probably the worst chicken parm with spaghetti definitely not a true cutlet it was like frozen patties with sauce and cheese there sauce needs improvement and not tasty at all the spaghetti was overcooked and garlic bread gross all covered with oil and tried there pizza not good at all don't know how this place is in business maybe because it's in a small town and the price was way overpriced for crappie food never again don't eat at this place not good at all read more

I got the baked ziti I was skeptical at first, but it does taste pretty good. It came hot with breadsticks and a salad. The breadsticks were not really flavored. They were supposed to be garlic, but they weren't the best but the baked ziti was really good. It was nice and hot. This was my third or fourth time ordering. Main reason for low rating is bc the total price Gus's website had indicated I would pay for my entire online order, inexplicably rose by almost a dollar as soon as the status of the order went from ordering/paying to "tracking/making your order." When I compared the pre- and post-order total prices, it appeared the tax went up by $0.04 and the food cost rose about $0.60. Watch for this when ordering online! (There was zero explanation for this $0.64 bump in price, and the place was too busy to ask about it when I went to pick up my order in person.) Second reason is that the quality of the food has dropped with every visit. This time the lettuce was brown and old-looking when I opened the bun. The fries, which are usually a major draw for me, were ice cold and soggy--and bc I'd ordered some black-pepper seasoning on them, they were drowned in it. (Looked like a black-ant invasion on my taters!) The fried shrimp basket tasted good, but was also cold--and I was there well within the time-window that the online-ordering platform had stated to be there for food pickup. read more

Probably my all-time favorite pizza. I just love their tomato sauce. Their regular crust is kind of thick, but good! Generally lots of sauce and gooey cheese. Their pepperoni is great. They also have thin crust. Texas wieners are ok; but, way too skimpy on the sauce. Stuffed shells/baked ziti are good. Chicken Parm is good enough. Burgers are big, but kind of bland. Wings are very good. They have a drive up window; and you can order online. Can't beat ordering online-they have various discounts and specials. You can get a square, 1 topping for $14.99! Anywhere else, you'd pay $20 for something like that. I've tried all the other places in Salem County, none as good. I live in Elmer, 20 miles away; but, still drive here at least once a week. And, I pass a dozen other pizza places doing it! read more

I think everyone who goes here just takes it for granted...we cannot find a pizzeria like this in Florida.:( Every time I go home to visit I have a Texas Weiner or a pizza steak. I have had a pizza steak from the other places in town but Gus's does it best, hands down. For those who have not enjoyed these items, let me splain: A texas weiner is a hot dog split in half, grilled, and served on a special bun that fits it perfectly. It comes with a special chili sauce, very finely chopped onions, and mustard. Just so darn tasty. Legend has it that my maternal grandfather (who passed before my birth) could eat one of these in 2 bites. Very impressive!! I wouldn't want to hurry the experience like that but I can understand. :) A pizza steak CAN be had here in Florida but is not made the same way at all. Down here, they take a cheese steak and ladle on some pizza sauce. In Pennsville (and all places make it the same way but Gus's does taste the best to me) the ingredients...the steak, cheese, and sauce...are somehow all glommed together and put on the roll and they become one with the roll. Add in some sautéed onions and mushrooms and you are talking melt-in-your-mouth nirvana. Admittedly, my husband does not worship the pizza steak as I do but he's from CT and calls subs grinders and rubber bands elastics so what the heck does he know????????? :) There are many other menu items and I'm pretty sure my mother has tried them all...she keeps a drawer full of take out menus and Gus's is her main go-to spot. She raves about whatever she gets and especially loves the hot roast beef sandwich...with extra gravy...for her french fries...what???...you thought my family was into health food???? Oh, and if you're feeling ultra lazy, they do have a drive through for pick ups...top that!! :) read more

In Pennsville, near the state line of Delaware and New Jersey we were lucky enough to stay over at a hotel that recommended Gus's pizza. Delicious. Crust - amazing. Sauce - divine. Cheese - heavenly. We will be back on our next trip through. Highly recommend! read more

Why isn't pizza this good in the Midwest? While in the area for business, I asked the hotel clerk who had the best pizza and she recommended Gus'. I ordered the buffalo chicken pizza with bread sticks for delivery. The crust was buttery and deliciously cooked. There were plenty of toppings on the pizza. The hot sauce had just the right amount of kick and heat. The bread sticks were loaded with garlic and Parmesan cheese. Both were very tasty. The next time I'm in town I will definitely dine with them again. I would love to try some other things on their menu such as their loaded fries. read more

I made the mistake of eating a slice of this pizza in a fit of delerium on a hot and humid summer night. You'd be better off with a box of Ellio's. This is by far the absolute worst pizza I've ever had in my life. It wanted to have my taste buds surgically removed afterwards. It looked like a Sicilian pie, but was the most disgustingly doughy and miserable pizza experience to date. I've been several times and was never really impressed but last Saturday's visit was probably the worst. While the pizza had a good taste the crust was very thick, soft and doughy. The Italian Sub was a mess, the bread was tough and the tomatoes weren't ripe (come on, really, a bad tomato in New Jersey!). Great food and very reasonable prices. Texas weiners are good, pizza is good, cheese steaks are better than any place in Philly (and I have eaten them all over) and they also have great hot wings. Putting everything aside, Gus's is a pizza place, and therefor must have decent pizza. Unfortunately they do not. Their pizza is constantly under-cooked, soggy and has a rare oven taste. Had a turkey sub last week. Goood! Turkey was nice and moist, fresh roll, and shredded lettuce - luv the shredded lettuce.

Gus's has the best sauce in Pennsville. Just the right amount of garlic and great tomato flavor. The crust is just right, and I have yet to have a pizza from them where the cheese has been burnt. The service is fast and the indoor eating area is always clean. If you really want a great pizza, stop at Gus's. Their nearest competition is Pat.
