Trust in these reviews, you HAVE to go to gusta pizza if you are in Florence!! It's across the river but worth the walk. Their pizza is absolutely amazing!! I went when I studied abroad several times and was never disappointed. It is always crowded but the wait is never too bad, they have a good system going. If you buy take out, it is a like a euro less, but you absolutely can't sit down in the restaurant with a box- we did and got yelled at, oops! Slightly embarrassing, but we didn't know, so don't make our mistake! There's a plaza only a few blocks away that everyone goes to sit down and eat their pizza at, just follow your nose. This pizza is the real deal. We stopped by and people were lined up at the door. Always a good sign. The line moved very quick. We ordered at the counter and were seated. I had the #6 Calabressa and my wife had the #2. Both pies were excellent. The sauce has great flavor and the crust is soft and doughy. The pizza came out literally less than 5 minutes after we ordered it. We of course devoured it in probably 10 minutes and left satisfied. Definitely check out this place when in Florence. read more

This restaurant was recommended to me by several people so I thought I would go try it. It was my first pizza in Italy, and maybe it was because I had really high hopes and expected some crazy difference from American pizzas, but this pizza was not as earth shattering as I expected. WOW. I had about 958573 people tell me I had to check out Gusta Pizza while in Florence. I went into the experience with pretty high expectations, but even still I was pretty blown away by my pizza. The dough was the perfect combination of crusty and chewy and the cheese and sauce melted together like magic to make easily the best pizza I had while in Italy for several weeks. Luckily when I went there wasn't too much of a line, so it only took me about 10-15 mins to order and get my pizza. Factor in the low prices, and this place is about as good as it will get, especially if you are on a budget (just don't order a beer because one bottle is about the same price as a pizza). Pro-tip: Order it to go and eat it outside on the steps (you'll see tons of others doing the same). read more

After a pleasant morning at the Palazzo Pitti and Giardino Boboli, my parents and I ventured to Gusta Pizza for lunch after getting a high recommendation from a tour guide. As we stepped inside the cozy shop, my attention was immediately grabbed by the beautiful wood fired pizza oven and the employees skillfully crafting the pizza pies about to be cooked inside. I eagerly began to feast on my Margherita pizza (only 5 euros) after waiting just a short amount of time. It quickly became clear to me that this was the BEST PIZZA OF MY LIFE. The wood flavor from the oven (plus a perfect cook time for ideal crust crispness) combined with the high quality ingredients resulted in a pizza experience above anything else. We were so moved by this first visit to Gusta Pizza that we came back two more times before leaving Firenze and it was always as incredible as before. As I sit here 6300 miles away, I still dream of Gusta Pizza's glory and hope to return in the not so distant future. read more

My comments are best reflected by our experience. We arrived for dinner at around 7pm. A line went around the corner, largely comprised of screeching American teenage girls. When the doors opened, the staff took orders from people at the front door before allowing you to be seated (assuming you could find a place to sit). If you ordered wine, you got it in a plastic cup after you ordered pizza (in other words, you didn't get wine with your food). After stuffing a crowd of people into the restaurant, you had to wait until a group of teenage girls left and then argue with other teenage girls to get seated by explaining how you had been waiting for 30 minutes (since the restaurant doesn't manage these things). Finally, after fighting to get a chair, you had to share the table with others who were similarly situated. The pizza was good, but not amazing enough to subject oneself to incredibly poor service and conditions. It's not surprising that the only people you see in the restaurant are other tourists who were equally drawn by the tripadvisor rating. read more

It's not great. Let's start off with that. It is ok, sure. Is it woth 6-7€, sure. Is it a 5 star amazement of what pizza is and should be. All caps NO. Why? Ingredients are good but not great, the place is a factory, they churn these things out for the forestieri who all gawk, but the honest to go truth is. It's just not that good. You're better off getting pizza south of Tuscany where it's ALWAYS better. As for the 5 star ratings people give? My favorite pizza in Florence, hands down. I chose the Margherita pizza and my boyfriend picked the Calzone Napoletano. They were both way larger than we expected considering the inexpensive bill. We lucked out and were able to get a table that we shared with two other travelers. My boyfriend liked his Calzone but said the Margherita was definitely a better choice. Just coming from Rome, we expected better food in Florence but the pizza was lack luster. The dough is extremely chewy... Not thin and crispy that we expected and my SO describes it as "gimicky" pizza. Soggy and impossible to cut. Fresh, delicious, and cheap, it is everything you hope for in wood-oven pizza. It is pretty hard for me to order anything other than Margherita, so I stuck with that while my dad tried one with salami and my mom had one covered with pecorino and arugula. We were all impresssed with our choices, but I couldn't help but sneak bits of pecorino off my mom's pie when she wasn't looking. This girl likes her strong cheeses! The pizzas are individual yet fairly large; I had no problem polishing mine off since I have a huge appetite and I also hadn't eaten in hours, but there were definitely some pieces left behind by others around the restaurant. If you are looking for top notch pizza in Florence (especially at lunchtime), don't hesitate to check out Gustapizza. Perfect whether you are on a budget or being funded by deep pockets. read more

After a long day of exploring, we were hungry and decided to drop by Gusta Pizza. It was around 830pm and the place was bustling - hordes of people inside and out. Initially, we tried to get a table, but quickly realized it was better off taking out. GREAT IDEA! We went around the corner to the take out section of the restaurant and ordered the Calabrese (tomato, basil, mozzarella and SPICY SALAMI!!!). Seems like 4 out of the 5 parties around us ordered the same. Must be a winner. About 10m later, we got our pie, walked down the street and ended up eating on the stairs by the main square. Countless numbers of Gusta patrons were doing the same, easily identified by their colorful pizza box. There happened to be a concert going on, which added a nice touch to our mouthwatering slices. Honestly, the ingredients were really good, but they weren't amazing. After reading all the raving reviews, I really expected this place to blow me away. If you are looking for incredible pizza, this is really the best place to go. This is my favorite pizza place in Florence, if not all of Italy. The crust is incredible, definitely my favorite part. It's very thick and full of flavor. Each bite it extremely flavorful and you can really tell how all the different ingredients combine to make an incredible pizza. They make this pizza in a stone fire oven and it is incredible. You can taste the freshness of the ingredients and you get the pizza right out the oven, so it is really delicious Something I love about this place is that it is super authentic and extremely affordable. My pizza was 6€ and it was plenty of food and better than most of the restaurants, which have much higher prices. I wish I could get this pizza every day. My friend and I went to check this place out last week. I am Arab and my friend is Black. There was a long line, which we waited 40+ minutes on. Which was fine. We sat down and ordered, waited a long time and then we saw the people who had ordered next to us, get their food before us even though they ordered 15+ minutes after us. Keep in mind, we ordered a Margherita and another simple pie (arugula or something) which was definitely less than what the people next to us had. We decided to wait another 10 minutes at the table, maybe ours would come out right after, but no, they kept bringing others orders out and not ours. My friend and I paid for our drinks, got up and left with no pizza. We had been sitting patiently at our table for an hour at that point. When traveling to Italy, I was only interested in finding one thing in Florence my first day there: the best pizza in town. This authentic Napoli style pizza, is made into a huge circle (or heart shape if they like you ;) ) and cut with a fork and knife. My favorite was definitely the Calabresi pizza, made with tomato, basil, mozzarella, and spicy salami. Each pizza is between 7 euro to 9 euro, depending on the toppings. When studying abroad in Italy last fall, my friends and I would go to this pizza place at least three times a week. The only downfall is its small space (typical for Florentine shops) and its huge crowds that try to squeeze in during dinner time. read more

GustaPizza was by far one of the top 5 pizzas I've ever consumed in my life. On my trip to Florence (Firenze), I had plans to meet my friend here for a late lunch. As I was waiting, a worker came over and told me they were closing soon and suggested I order. I got the margherita pizza for only 5 or 6 Euros and was immediately hooked. The crust is cooked to perfection and smothered in gooey cheese and fresh tomato sauce. I savored every single bite and never wanted the meal to end! Both the food and the staff are fantastic, and there is a reason this place is always filled with customers (many Americans too). Be cautious of their hours of operation! My friend wasn't able to go because they close for a few hours in the afternoon so the cook can "drink" - direct quote from the staff! Good pizza, is it worth *all* the hype? I'm not sure. Though hit is a solid lunch option when you're in Florence. I had the margherita pizza but wish I had ordered the gusta pizza. Be prepared to wait to order and then wait for your pizza. Tips: Be mindful of which entrance you go in from. One entrance has a swarm of people waiting for their number to be called and are just standing around, whereas the other entrance (the one you want) has the register where you pay and get your number. Be prepared to get it to go as there's pretty limited seating and it's *always* crowded. No worries though, there are a bunch of steps around the corner where everyone consumes their to-go pizza. read more

Most pizza in Firenze is B quality or worse. If you want a good pizza, choose wisely. Gustapizza is a good choice. I would give it 4.5 stars if I could. In the world of pizza, 5 starts is, for me, reserved for only a very few. Be prepared to wait a while, maybe 30-45 minutes. Be prepared to be stuffed in a small, noisy restaurant. But it is a fun crowd and they will feed you wine while you wait. This is a Neapolitan style pizza. We each ordered a margherita which is my personal go-to choice to judge a place. It was excellent. We got the margherita and calabrese pizzas, and both were sufficiently delicious for the price. The mozzarella on the margherita was still wet and watery, and the dough in the middle still damp -- the pizzas definitely could have used a little more time in the oven. Judging by the busyness of the place, they're just trying to turn tables quickly. If you're looking for quick, cheap food just to hit the spot, this will do the trick.
