My first meal was the best. A giant Steak Florentine with Beans right on the Plaza of the Holy Spirit. Who could ask for better ambiance. The food was amazing. A fantastic steak, at the most reasonable price in town... I learned later. I also discovered Burello, which made for a perfect pairing. Service was friendly and inviting. Sliced hard boiled egg rather than a fried egg and truffle was not fresh shaved. Probably from a jar. Not good. Buffalo mozzarella pizza was good, as were the spritzes, but those are hard to mess up. The food is okay. This place is all for tourist and not very authentic. I had the Buffalo mozzarella pizza and the crust was not cooked at all on the bottom. This spot was fine. Nice location on the piazza, peaceful with a nice view of the church while shaded by trees and the overhang. My wife and I split a salad and a pizza. Probably the worst pizza I've ever had in my life. The sad soggy mess was under-cooked in the centre and charred black on the edges. The only thing positive I can say is that the waitress was very nice. Even the surroundings were horrible. Although the patio faces a little piazza with a fountain and trees, the ground was littered with garbage. A noisy street cleaning truck circled the square the entire time we were there. It passed within feet of our cafe table multiple times and we couldn't even hear each other speak. Ironically, the street did not look any cleaner when we left. This was the only place in our two weeks in Italy that was sub par. But it was memorable in it's level of badness. read more

I realized I never reviewed this place and hastily rushed to this business to leave a review!!! Because this place is seriously one of my favorite spots in Florence. I think I came here so many times that I just assumed after one of the times that I'd leave a review (whoops)! I take my aperol spritz very seriously folks...and when I say this place has the best spritz...I MEAN IT!!! I dream about their spritz every day. I'd come back to Florence just to have their spritz. I don't know what they do to it but...my god. I also love their penne red sauce/pesto dish. Who would have thought red sauce and pesto could be mixed together??? Not me but I've been doing it ever since lol. I highly recommend sitting outside in the piazza and enjoying one of their spritz, some pasta, or a pitcher of wine. The Santo Spirito district of Florence is suppose to be where the locals eat as advertised by the person who checked us in at our hotel. It was very fortunate because that was exactly what we wanted since we want to taste the real Florentine (or Tuscan, not really sure what the term to use) dishes. We tried to avoid the tourist traps on our journey as much as possible and this was not the case. I got the pappardelle with wild boar ragu, while my GF got a pizza. She said that she wanted to compare the pizza from different places. Good thing too so that I can compare also :) . Anyway, I can tell right away that the pappardelle was different from what I am used to eating. The noodle was al dente and have the best texture and "gumminess" that I have tasted. If I have to guess, their noodle was freshly made. I think this noodle ruined me. It raised my standard for pasta. So, I think after this trip, my ratings for Italian restaurant in the US will now have a higher bar to overcome. As for the wild boar ragu, the meat was tender with that hint of complex tomato sauce that was not overpowering. The taste was something I have not tasted before. I do not think it is something that I can closely replicate, and I am pessimistic that I would not taste something close like this back home. It was like a pulled pork on pappardelle except the flavor of the pork was sophisticated and complex. The flavor was completely balanced. It was so delicious that I devoured it like a wild boar. As for the pizza, I think that the pizza here is not as great compared to what we have eaten at other places. She ordered anchovies with capers in which I think it was very salty for my taste. However, it is top notch compared to most pizza places back home. My only complain was the cover charge, but most of the restaurant in Italy that we ate at have some sort of cover charge. Also, even though I am raving the food here, it is nothing compare to the other places where we ate. But, you have to try this place regardless, only if you tried the other places. read more

Found this restaurant through an Italian website that indicated it would always be busy with locals and tourists. They were completely correct. I was nervous there would be a long wait with how busy they were when we walked up, but they seated us outside (our choice) immediately. The patio was a bit tight but comfortable with heaters, umbrellas, and blankets provided for added warmth. We dined here for dinner and it was a bit chilly outside (40 degrees Fahrenheit in March after dark) but I didn't feel cold at all. The service was great--the menu provided Italian and English descriptions of the food. They provide house-made bread and olives when you are seated--a nice touch. The olives were delicious and prompted me to order olives on my pizza! We ordered one pizza each and it was filling. The pizza crust was light and the toppings were delicious. It was very impersonal, rushed, and I left feeling like it was just a big factory, get 'em in and out. This place was a perfect place for a delightful lunch. We traveled from Venice to Florence, so we were pretty hungry. When we walked through the street this restaurant caught our eyes. It was fairly crowded and it had a beautiful view of the bustling street, so we decided to give this place a try which was an awesome choice because the food was amazing and the service was great. When we were seated they gave us a delicious bread with red pepper olives. The bread the the olives were a perfect combination. I ordered their pesto penne pasta. This was so delicious. I have to say that I am not a fan of pasta, but of course I have to try pasta in Italy, so I ordered this dish. Now I know why people love pasta. The noodles were cooked perfectly and the sauce was simple and flavorful. My sister ordered the queen salad which was kind of small, but worth it. It was fresh and the vegetables were crisp and the salad was dressed perfectly. We ordered a bottle of white wine to top the meal.
