Beautiful day shopping at the Milford Mall called for something more than just a quick meal. I wanted a place with a special vibe, and this restaurant did not disappoint! From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed warmly and got the perfect outdoor patio table under the umbrella. The Watermelon Basil Martini was absolutely amazing -- my friend had the virgin version, and mine was fully loaded. It was so good I ordered a second one! For dinner, we tried the braised short rib pappardelle and the lobster risotto, which our server recommended as the best dishes on the menu. She was right both were delicious! The tiramisu? I went to this restaurant for the first time a week ago. The Service was mediocre.... first of all. I ordered the eggplant rollatini. It was cold. Then... I ordered an arugula salad with watermelon.. It was $24, which would be considered a side salad, the watermelon was not ripe, there was no dressing on it and 3 tiny pieces of red onion. It was unimpressive, and tasteless. Then I ordered the salmon dish. Instead of getting delightful sustainable Wild caught Alaskan salmon. I got coho salmon, a very cheap rendition of salmon, and it was overcooked and dry. I spent my life working in the food and beverage industry, in some of the finest restaurants throughout the Country. I brought a friend here in celebration of his birthday on a cold February evening. It was a Tuesday so there was parking available in the lot and we had our choice of seats. A server was working the cheese wheel for adjacent guests. It was cool to watch how he fires it up to soften the cheese before adding the pasta. We went on to order wine however we had different menus so our server had to sort out which one to order from. We started out by sharing the grilled octopus plated with roasted fingerling potatoes then we each ordered an entree. I had halibut served with mashed potatoes and he had Filet served over mashed potatoes with green beans, artichoke hearts, grape tomatoes and olives. Both were delicious. Gusto's Trattoria occupies a nice corner on the busy Post Rd/RT 1 in Milford CT. The owners have, over the years, improved & expanded the Tuscany inspired environment adding some nice landscaping & a charming outside eating area that is tucked towards the back of the restaurant & thus is sheltered from the Post Rd. traffic. There are two interior dining rooms & a small bar area that has some seating/a few high tops. Gusto's has a substantial menu that's expanded with daily specials. Pasta is generously portioned. Back again! After my first amazing experience with Gusto, I knew this was the venue for my sister in laws baby shower. The coordinator was lovely, planning the tables, what food and drinks. The real star of the show was Paul. Paul immediately offered his assistance with bringing things in or setting tables up. He was on the ball the entire event. When I had to order a guest different food, Paul took the lead and spoke with the guest directly. As the party continued Paul and the waiters were always in and out refilling drinks. I ordered two small pizzas for lunch and when I got home with them, they tasted like yesterday's pizza they were weren't good at all! They were dry. They were horrible. The only good that came out of this was the owner reimbursed me immediately!!! She apologized and said she had a new cook and she wasn't satisfied with his production of pizzas. One was salad and chicken cutlet it was a small portion, not adequate for the price they charged. We had a group lunch here and the wait staff could not have been more helpful or nicer. They waited on us continuously during the time we were eating brought whatever we needed and added extra things as they diminished such as bread, etc. the focaccia is just delicious here. My son received a gift certificates from our church for his continued services since he was 9 yr old, now 12 soon to be 13!! He was so excited!! Our server was excellent!!!! However, the staff when leaving, completely ignored us and wouldn't even say good night. Tonight my family went to gusto's has not been our first time because we have totally enjoyed the food and the service tonight was an exception. We got there at 6:30 and did not get food till 830. My entrée came 20 minutes later than my families and it was cold. The service from the waitress. Rhiannon was wonderful. However, the communication between the kitchen and the manager was not my meal was comped which I brought home. I brought my son's meal home and my daughter's meal home a $200 bill got comped one meal which to me is unacceptable. Had no problems paying for what drinks we had and when my meal did finally come out it was cold tonight at 10:30 at night. I am having a slice of my 599 Aldi's pizza that I made last night for dinner. Truly disappointed and I feel that they really should've comped our entire meal after two hours. I could've gone home made dinner washed my dishes cleaned up my kitchen put my nightgown on and sat on the couch in two hours. I hope I do hear from the owners of the restaurant because I'm not sure if I'll go back again we drove from Naugatuck to go to gusto's because we've always had a good experience till tonight. read more

Came here for my son's birthday with a party of six. The chicken parmigiana came with ravioli; it was a small portion of 5 small pieces; although it tasted fresh, I should have swapped it for a more filling spaghetti. The lamb wasn't served as "lollipop" style which was unusual for me but it still tasted good. The bread was served with a whole roasted garlic head, which was appealing to my eye and photo worthy. My jalapeño margarita had too much sour mix. I tried my sister's strawberry daiquiri and it was way too sweet for my liking. So I didn't order a second drink. The service wasn't exceptional, nothing stood out to mention, but it wasn't horrible either. There are too many Italian options out there, so I probably won't return. read more

My family and I came here and at first it seemed like it was going to be a great experience. But we were horribly mistaken. We were sitting at our table as if we were in a desert with no wait staff checking on us for long periods of time. We had to wait a whole hour to even get a notice of where our food was. I came to Gusto Trattoria for my Husband's bday on August 8th (a Thursday) before we made our way to the movies. From the outside the restaurant is absolutely beautiful, it was raining this day so we had to sit indoors. The indoor dinning room was equally as stunning ! The service was incredible , I forgot the name of the woman who served us but she was amazing. She mentioned she was 78 and she is aging gracefully! She joined me in surprising and singing happy birthday to my husband. All the food was incredible. We gad had the chicken parm and shrimp pizza. I was not a fan of my expresso martini mocktail but my husband liked his spritz. We would be returning on a nicer day. read more

Came here for my nephew's birthday w/ my family.It was a fancy,nice place. Waiter was not attentive & when I asked questions about the menu he had an attitude. He never checked in on us but sure did to the two other families.We waited long for our food while the other families who came after got theirs. I ordered lamb chops for myself. When my order finally came out the lamb chops were hard,chewy,& over cooked. Everyone didn't like their food as well. They said b/c it was bland & mushy. It's been about a year since we last eat at Gusto. The service was exceptional but the food was not very good at all. Very disappointing we both had chicken dishes. The amount of salt combined with the last of favor made this a forgettable experience Add to that it cost $150 and we are not returning. But we enjoyed the live music (only on Friday nights) and relaxing while waiting for the delicious food. Free foccacia house bread with baked garlic cloves: you know the restaurant is going to be good when the house bread is THIS good. We literally couldn't stop eating, soooo darn fluffy! Mussels in White Wine Sauce: the white whine sauce is delicious! The mussels were plump and juicy, the taste very fresh and seafood-y. Once you finish the mussels, make sure to save the sauce so that you can dip the house bread into it. AMAZING. Calamari: loved how crispy this was, and the coating is very thin too. Came with two sauces, the typical marina sauce and another one that's very herby. I loved that one a lot more, and also spread it all over the bread haha. Ok their bread is everything :D For entrees, I ordered the scallops. Scallops were plump, fresh, juicy and cooked perfectly, but there were only 4 scallops :( Also over-salted, but for the taste, I don't mind. Especially as there was a bed of mushroomy truffled risotte that came along with this. I also tried the braised short rib - super meaty and worth the price, but it could've been more tender. The sauce does get a little heavy the more you eat, so probably not something I would get again. read more

Excellent service, warm and friendly interactions from the waitstaff and the bartenders. Have dined here many times in the restaurant and in the bar area. The food is delicious, the menu is varied and reasonably priced. Specials are worth considering. Once a week you can order a cheese wheel whereby they literally melt the cheese in front of you and mix it into the pasta. Fun experience! Run! What a horrible place! Firstly, not kids friendly! Did you not have a kids menu! Although they tell you, they have a kids menu and it's not even on the menu they tell you one price and then they tell you another. I like Transparency and this place by far was not! Really unreliable! First they say pasta is $7.95 then they say it was $9.95. My daughter wanted plain pasta boiled no butter or anything with a side of chicken the chicken I thought was $15 plus $9.95 for pasta. So a kids meal was a total of $25 when they have adult meals for $16. I called to make the manager or owner understand. But he started to tell me about his expenses. No customer service at all! Was not nice at all!. As a business owner I understand that he would want to get the most from a customer. But as a customer I would never go back again! I was such a shit show from the moment I got there. One of the girls with us was chocking on ice and they just looked and did not even try to help.
