Sadly with the location they have, this place could have been a fabulous success year round, one of the best restaurants in CT , packed every lunch and dinner with a waiting list for reservations for weeks or more. INSTEAD IT just a local bar with mediocre food, menu, and service. BECAUSE instead of offering class, atmosphere, and great food they emphasize their bar, cheap drink nights, and Karaoke. We went here primarily for the riverside view and that was enjoyable but the food was actually good across the board, The Tahitian burger was not that impressive looks-wise but once you bite into them, they prove to be absolutely delicious. Exact amount of barbecue needed to elevate the burger rather than overtake it. The rest of the table also enjoyed the fish and chips, chicken sandwich and homemade tiramisu. Light and airy decor, excellent service and good food. My wife and I stopped for a light lunch and we were pleasantly surprised by the views, service and food. I had the lobster bisque, it was very good with chunks of lobster. My wife had the outstanding new England clam chowder and a Cobb salad. The salad was fresh and big ! We choose this restaurant for Mothers Day there were 10 in our party. It seems that any of us that ordered Chicken dishes they all gave us runs for our money(pepto time). The service was probably as to be a Holiday but extremely slow.my brother ordered a NY Strip steak which he could have got a better cut at Aldi and was delivered well done opposed to Rare. My brother in law got a perschuto sandwich with everything but the meat, we don't mind the pricing but way over rated where salads start at $21 and burgers nearly $20. We absolutely loved lunch at this "new" place that is in the old "Stones Throw" building. They've done a fabulous renovation, it's much brighter and modern with extended parking which was a huge issue before. The staff was pleasant right from walking in the door and very attentive and helpful during service. We ordered a dish to take out as well as our lunch and they handled that well. We began with Bang Bang Shrimp which was perfect, 11 large shrimp with the perfect coating and sauce, I could make a meal if that with a side salad! Our mains were Housatonic Burger, modified without red onion plus bacon - perfect cook and juicy and delicious. The Special - Cavatelli with broccoli rabe and sausage was delicious, the sausage was sliced and sautéed, no bitterness in the rabe no oiliness, maybe the best I've ever had! The Arugula salad with goat cheese, caramelized walnuts and mango and grilled chicken was fabulous, just a light toss in vinaigrette finished it off perfectly! With the beautiful view of the river through the huge windows or a choice of outdoor seating with took me back to European outdoor dining, they've really made this a place to be! My wife and I were going out on a date a few weeks ago and at the last minute it fell through so we ended up just going out for dinner with my mother in law and pivoted and found this place. Awesome location right on the river. We were on the deck which was kinda warm until they slid the canopy off and opened it all up and it was gorgeous. Menu wasn't huge but covered all the bases. We started with the arugula salad which was great and we tried to recreate it at home the next week. For dinner I got the chicken Scarpariello which is one of my favorite dishes. It was a fine meal, but vastly different than how I expect the dish made, using a red sauce and not having any sausage and wasn't very spicy. I wouldn't order it again and they should IMO change the name. My wife had the chicken rigatoni which was decent, but fairly standard. My mother in law on the other hand took a chance on the Chilean sea bass which was excellent and both my wife and i wished we'd ordered it ourselves. Bill seemed a little high, but given the location it wasn't outrageous. Note that parking can be very tricky. We were there early on a Friday and it didn't seem that busy but free spaces were limited and it's tough to back out from your spot directly onto the main road. Don't want the hassle of parking? We are close to being regulars. We know the food and what to expect. Today I got inferior crab cakes and when I mentioned it to our waiter that they were mostly filler she just said that's the way they are, which is not true. I left most of it on my plate all torn apart as I was looking for crab meat. Still no response from a waiter who knows us. Very disappointed with the change in the food and the response. We visited the Housatonic House on Father's Day. We ordered our appetizers and meals at the same time. We ordered the mussels as an appetizer and the seafood paella for our dinners. When the mussels came out they smelled bad. We sent them back and ordered something else. Our dinners came out soon there after. The seafood paella came out with mussels in them. Once again, the mussels were bad. We complained to the server and asked if they could replace the mussels with shrimp. Which they did. The problem I have is that they served bad mussels. When we returned them the first time why would you include them in another meal? It wasn't one bad mussel. All the mussels were bad. Not once did the manager or owner come to the table to apologize or speak to us. The poor server was left to deal with the situation on her own. I definitely will not be going back. read more

I've been wanting to try this restaurant since it opened. On Sunday we decided to go for lunch. Parking is tough, but we found a spot. There was a baby shower going on that was very loud in the other room. We sat in the bar at a table and the views are beautiful. We ordered a bunch of appetizers and they were really good. Then ordered the twin lobster rolls and they were disappointing. It tasted like they poured lemon juice over the top, which soaked into the rolls. I've passed this restaurant nearly every day and noticed it was drawing a crowd. So in between bad weather we stopped in for dinner. The location is perfect as it lies along a picturesque bank of the Housatonic river. Inside it's a mix of upscale modern and dock n dine. The menu was fairly extensive both with drinks and food plus a specials menu. You will find something you like. The prices are expensive. At least a few dollars more than they should be on pretty much all items. The food was solid, not anything special though but good enough to comeback and try something else. We had coconut shrimp which was a good starter. Entrees we're a lightly battered shrimp which I'd order again and skirt steak which was good but I'd try something different next time. It was overcooked but still tender and tasty but it's a real basic dish of fries, small salad and a nice portion of steak. Service was attentive and friendly until the disappearing act performed after our plates were cleared. We never saw our waitress again after she cleared our plates and we ended up just checking out up front. The positives were the food service and scenery. What keeps it from a 5 star is the pricing. I left feeling like we could have had the same food at other restaurants for 75% of the price. Maybe the scenery is worth the extra 25% but the prices make this more of a special event or date restaurant than a regular weekly or monthly outing. read more

Let's see. What good can I say? Nice setting in daylight? This is speculative, as we went for dinner. Look, I'd love to wax positive, but the food left our bodies within two hours. Yeah. Sorry, truth. It SEEMED suspect, especially the unidentifiable seafood corpse in the seafood grill "special" - but we ate it. The hanger steak was best described as...extra chewy. Yum. Our wait-staffer was fine. But there was a party going on behind the bar. I know rule of thumb is no drunks behind the bar, but hey - it was a Saturday. Anything goes. First time coming here and won't be my last! Very chill ambiance. Beautiful views no matter what time of the day it is, but my husband and I came here right at sunset! It was a bit chilly tonight being on the deck so make sure you wear a sweater if that's the case, but I sucked it up! It's nice inside, beautiful fireplace. Lots of tables. Looks deceiving on the outside but the place is spacious. Beautiful bar area too. They had karaoke tonight which was nice. My husband and I were waiting for about 10 minutes after being seated, but I'm not going to stress that only because it wasn't that big of a deal to me. The staff are very friendly! Great personalities and polite! The food is absolutely delicious! The prices match inflation but I don't care. Great portion size! The steak was cooked perfectly to medium well! Their chimichurri sauce is superb! Yum! My husband really liked his chicken scarpiello. I had a piece of it, it was juicy and had the right amount of spice! But not overly spicy! We have driven by many times and many different names over the years. My wife and I watched the renovation to Housatonic House commenting that we should try it and finally last weekend we did. There were a few other tables of 2 and a large table (10) when we arrived. We were immediately greeted and seated. Our waitress was wonderful and attentive. We both ordered the tahini burgers and they were awesome. We both also went with the standard fries - they were flavorful but much skinnier than I prefer - so next time will try a substitution. My Aunt told me a new place opened up so I decided to check this restaurant out. When I walked in, I said wow this is beautiful. The inside is so pretty and the bar is awesome. Restaurant was very clean and I loved that we got welcomed as soon as we walked in. We decided to sit outside because it was a beautiful day. Outside is awesome and the view is perfect. Our server Toni was great! She was so kind, patient, and attentive. I ordered the crab cakes for a starter and wow were they delicious. Filled with so much flavor. It was served with a mango salsa that was scrumptious. For dinner I ordered the chicken Scarpellio and I must say this is the most flavorful dish I've had in a while. The flavors were exploding in my mouth. Yes it's dramatic lol but so true. And the potatoes were delicious as well. I had a couple glasses of sangria. It was tasty, only thing I suggest is less ice because I was outside and it melted fast so the first one was watery. So for the second one I just said light ice.
