Just want to be clear that this review is not for Golleta Valley Optometry, which is right next door and which is always a 5 star experience. As a family needing regular sight support, we've had a fair share of experience in this arena and unfortunately, after two difficult experiences at this location, had to find a new place to get our frames and lenses. My last visit was in January 2020 and I did have very successful transactions in 2019, but I do not know what caused the change. The first issue is that staff at this location violated HIPAA and disclosed protected information to a third party, this was brought to the attention of the manager who was frankly at a loss as to what to do. In his defense, what could you do? Since we were already in the process of ordering frames, we continued but the lack of knowledge, attentiveness, and assistance in selecting frames and obtaining prior authorization was too frustrating to deal with. The person helping us simply refused to obtain the information from the insurance company, since I was requesting a set of glasses that was not standard, and I (and they) were at a loss as to how I could know what the total would be. The absurdity of the expectation was completely lost on the staff; they were happy to cancel the order and allow us to fill our prescriptions elsewhere. I do not know what happened to create such a change in the quality of experience but maybe they'll get it back together. read more

I never leave reviews, but these people must be avoided to save yourself future stress. I have been a customer for a few years, along with my son, and I wanted to order more contact lenses at Walgreens (they were on sale). Despite having another month before the expiration date on my prescription, they denied it. They never notified me of their "decision" or even called me for a new appointment (although, lol, I just got a text and call now - reminding me of this:). When I called their office, the manager, "Lulu," said I was just being "cheap" (no concern for my health) and "that it was too bad for me" as I was just avoiding their fee. If I had a chance, I would have happily responded that I am helping with my recently born grandchild and work six days a week, so I wouldn't have time to go for a few months. Since there is a month on the prescription, and my prescription has stayed the same for years, they should have approved the purchase. But she hung up on me before I could talk, telling me I should report them to the Cali board. Crappy way to treat customers! And Lulu needs to find a little kindness in her when talking to customers. This is unacceptable, so save time and find another place. Any recommendations? read more

Dan and his family and staff are simply the BEST!!! I have been getting my eyeglasses from Goleta Valley Optical for over 30 years and most of those frames are still in great shape. I just need to have the lenses changed every so often with my new prescription......and I have done this repeatedly. The quality of Dan's frames is truly amazing. Plus I usually get both clear and tinted lenses (sunglasses) and the colors stay true and dark!! Plus, Dan stands by his work. One time I ordered (with a "2-for-the-price-of-one offer) four (4) pairs of glasses but the doctor's prescription was incorrect and the glasses made everything blurry. Dan took back ALL 4 pairs and re-made my glasses after I obtained a new prescription. Sansum should have made good since it was Sansum's mistake!! The service was great! I have a super high prescription and I'm getting progressives, so it was expensive but an investment to get something comfortable enough to wear instead of my contact. Gotta let my eyes breathe! The frame selection in the lower price range was pretty limited, so I took off a star for that. I went in for a pair of glasses and the the girl with long dark hair was very unfriendly and unhelpful to the point of being rude. She seemed extremely bothered that I wanted to try on glasses, and for the record I tried on 3 pairs before I was so u comfortable that I left. I will take my business somewhere else. I have been wearing glasses for nearly 50 years. I have been buying glasses in Santa Barbara for more then 40 years. More then half of my family wears glasses. And we all come here. Pricing is great, which is helpful because I lack the insurance that pays for it, so I am out of pocket for everything. They are able to get the glasses to us quickly, and without issue. There staff is helpful, and not really pushy about anything. There is ample parking, and now that they have some one on sight for eye exams, it really makes it a one stop shopping. I find it so affordable, that I opt to get extra glasses, which is great, not only to have on back up, but it gives me options to wear different styles and even get them tinted, since I can not wear regular sun glasses and still see clearly. read more
