We had GVT Contracting install a metal staircase connecting our bedrooms, and the entire experience was excellent from start to finish. Trevor and his team--especially Chris, the foreman--were professional, reliable, and a pleasure to work with. The work was done on time, at a fair price, and the quality exceeded our expectations. The staircase looks fantastic and was installed with great care and attention to detail. What really stood out was how smooth and stress-free the whole process was. I am sharing my experience with GVT Contracting (Trevor & Sonja) so that other members of the community can make informed decisions. I hired this company for a residential deck project at my residence by the Tillicum Mall area. Unfortunately, the work performed on my property did not meet basic quality or professional standards. The materials and workmanship were noticeably below what was agreed upon, and several structural and finishing issues required additional corrective work. When I raised these concerns, the interactions that followed were unexpectedly hostile and confrontational. Their communication style felt aggressive, dismissive, and at times unsafe, which caused significant stress for my family. Based on my direct experience, I found the conduct of the owners to be unprofessional, argumentative, and difficult to deal with, and I personally would not feel comfortable hiring them again. I strongly recommend that anyone considering this company exercise caution, request detailed written documentation, verify all terms in advance, and ensure clear communication before any work begins. Worst experience I have ever had with a contractor. I don't like leaving poor reviews but I think it is my responsibility to warn people by informing them of my very frustrating experience. I gave money upfront to Trevor for material that had to be returned trusting he would pay me back. He gave me a portion of it. I have been asking him for the balance of that money which is $1300 for almost 8 months now. He has continued to often ignore me or make excuses for not paying me back. He also told me that if I had any issues with my deck, he would come back and fix free of cost. I have told him a several times that there are a few boards that have sharp edges lifted up and that I have small grandchildren that can get hurt. He also left 3 ugly posts uncovered that are a complete eye sore. I asked him many times to come cover them and he has also not responded to that matter. Trevor has been very unprofessional and rude to me on many occasions and continues to brush me off. I do not recommend using them at all and infact I would give 0 stars if I could. read more

Under no circumstances should you employ Trevor Marten to and GV Contracting to build you a deck. On February 11 I and my wife agreed to employ him to build a deck, here is part of the agreement: $10,395.00 Notes 30% deposit required for booking Terms check or e transfer accepted." I paid the 30% deposit promptly and Trevor said they would be there in late April to build the deck. In fact they did not show up until past the mid-May. Two weeks after Trevor built the deck which I paid the revised bill of $17,000. Within two weeks of Trevor finishing cracks began to appear in the deck. On Monday June 2nd, 2025 I emailed Trevor about the cracks and included photos. He wrote back on June 4th, 2025. here is what he wrote.: "Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry about this. It's honestly just from the material in the lumberyard had nothing to do with us but yes, we will completely come and replace all the cracks. No problem. Just give us a few few weeks a week or two at least. Thankyou Trevor" It is now November 27th and Trevor has yet to do a single repair. On Thursday Nov. 20th 2025 I emailed Trevor to tell him that since he was refusing to repair the defective work I would fie in Small Claims court against him. He claimed he would come to inspect the deck this week. He has not done so. In fact he his now claiming he came this morning November 27th 2025, entered our yard without informing us and took photos. I was up at 7:30 am this morning and I did not hear or see Trevor on my property which he would have entered without permission. Moreover, I checked with my neighbours and none of them saw him , nor did a contractor working across the street. One of my neighbours has a security camera pointed at the side yard of his house and the street. We reviewed the footage together and there is no sign of Trevor. Furthermore, Trevor is now blaming us for the cracks, again I quote what he wrote: " I just inspected your deck. I don't know if you sent me here as a practical joke, but there is literally no issues in any of the structure that happens on all the materials wherever you buy them anywhere in the city if you don't stain and fill your lumber expect cracks has nothing to do with our craftsmanship. Chris will come tomorrow and switch out the board on the stairs and fill the crack under the deck, on the post but there's literally nothing wrong and if you take me to court nothing will happen. We did absolutely everything we said we would do up to the BC building code and our material are standard to any store in Victoria bc Anyways, he will deal with the issues tomorrow as we just inspected your deck this morning. Thank you for everything and you have nothing to worry about. Trevor " At no point before this has Trevor ever said the deck needed stained or painted to avoid cracks or we would not have hired him So basically he is now saying it is our fault because we didn't stain or paint the deck. He bought defective wood to build the deck and now will not repair it by replacing the wood. I had another contractor who warned me about what might happen if I employed a person with a cheaper price. I should have listened to him Now My wife and I are out $17,000 plus whatever another contractor charges us to replace the defective wood used by Trevor and Gv Contracting. I am a pesioner living on a fixed income and my wife is a health care worker, we don't have thousands of extra dollars to pay for a defective deck and its repair. My wife is having to work overtime whenever possible to pay back the money we borrowed to build the deck. Two weeks ago I had both Thunderbird Plumbing and Motherwell Electric here to do work. They both did excellent work and having previously written a highly positive Google Review for Motherwell, I did the same for Thunderbird Plumbing. I have also employed two other contractors in the last two years to deal with smaller repairs and they both did fabulous jobs. The only contractor I have had problems with in the Capitol Region is Trevor Marten. Do yourself a favour. Don't employ Trevor Marten and GV contracting. MY wife and I are in debt and are completely unsatisfied because we did. This is what you can expect. As you can see from teh emails I quoted, Trevor says one thing but does another. He claimed he would repair the cracks and now is refusing to replace the defective lumbar as if that is our fault. He bought the lumber for the job and he should replace every piece of defective wood he used. Based on my wife and I's experience, employing Trevor Maren is a major and costly mistake.
