This is one of the best libraries in Gwinnett hands down. We drive 20 minutes just to come to this library when we want to read, study, or just experience what a great library has to offer. We have a library right next to our house but come to this one when we productivity is a priority and we want a pleasant library session. And the Gwinnett library system is really good, I have lived so Many places and belonged to many libraries, but this one is excellent! Esp. The Hamilton mill location, it's lovely! Nice and big in there with different things to do (my son loves the sound lab to make his music). It's not in our area but the one nearest us is closed for renovations. We went there to drop off the dvds we borrowed and my Autistic daughter wanted some new ones. However it looks like they no longer carey dvds to borrow because we could not find them. read more

I cannot say enough good things about this place! The staff is amazing, so very helpful, and the amount of activities that are offered for adults and children excels above any other library I've visited. I used to come to this library about once a month with my children, until recently when I went back to school and started visiting regularly to study. The environment is quiet there are several tables with and without computers for private or group study sessions. There's also a quiet room available if you need complete silence while working on something. What really impresses me is the amount of free activities for children that are all year round. They offer everything from Lego club, to bilingual reading time, to free tickets to the zoo that can be rented throughout the year. I would love it if they had more than vending machines available. For example maybe a small café with coffee and pastries or sandwiches. I've spent some long days at this library and sometimes the vending machine food just doesn't cut it. With that said they have absolutely no problem if you order delivery food or bringing food of your own. I'm sure it would be hard to keep up with a café along with everything that they're doing, so I can't mark them down for that. I truly appreciate all they do for this community. read more

A new library The Hamilton Mill branch of the Gwinnett County Library system is a new place that was only opened in 2010. Everything about it still feels all squeaky clean and shiny and probably will stay that way for a while. The library is spacious with lots of natural light. Someone obviously spent a lot of time thinking about the design and really maximized and got the most use from the size of the building. All kinds of places to sit and relax, the library has an amazing amount of different sizes of chairs to fit every possible butt. Hamilton Mill has a nice selection and variety of books, audio materials, periodicals and computers. The children department is very nice with all kinds of things to keep the local delinquents amused while teaching them things about their county and the world. No, it's not a historic building or a library with a long history but the beginning and end of a story aren't seen at once. I suspect this library will continue to serve and educate the people of Gwinnett County for a long, long time. read more

I love living here! Dacula may not be on most peoples radar, but it is a quiet little city with a lot to offer. We are very fortunate to live in a county that believes in using tax dollars for the benefit of county residence. There are so many examples all over the county, but two of my favorites are Gwinnett County public parks and libraries. The Hamilton Mill branch is the newest to enter the library system. Opened in April of 2010, it is Gwinnett's 15th Branch and the first LEED certified library in the county. Check out what LEED certification means here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leadership_in_Energy_and_Environmental_Design Some of the innovative design features to this library include: * Drought tolerant plants and water efficient drip irrigation system will help reduce water usage. * Window glass features double glazing, low emission, and selective low emission coating to improve insulation and heat gain and loss through the building fenestration. * Energy use is reduced up to 30% with energy efficient lighting, heating, and cooling equipment. * Artificial lighting is automatically controlled based on the amount of daylight entering the space, improving energy efficiency and turning off luminaries when not needed. * Sunshades and solar control devices on the south facade help control the amount of light and heat which enters the building throughout the year. * Reflective roof surface * Vertical fins on the east and west windows reduce direct afternoon sunlight. * Carbon dioxide and humidity sensors monitor indoor air quality and much more. One of the more unique features of the project is the "Art in Architecture" component designed by local artist Maria Artemis. She used condensed themes of water, earth, sun, and the use of language in our culture to create a series of screened glass 'paintings' for windows throughout the library. There are quiet cubicles for individual work or large restaurant style bench tables for groups. Plenty of computer stations, many outfitted with iMac's and there is even a quiet room for the easily distracted reader. Another AWESOME feature is the reading theater to the rear (near the children's library) that offers story time reading from one of the library staff. Beautiful and modern, this is a space students (and adults) really enjoy as evidence to it's always packed parking lot. I'm sad to write this review. And I think I'm done with libraries now. I order about 14 books for my kids every 2 weeks or so. Shares books are generally gross so I always make sure to wipe them down with Clorox wipes (which turn brown from minimal wiping). But this last trip I am now done forever. One of these books had baby German cockroaches stuck inside the tape label on the book. Seriously DISGUSTING. How many hands did this book pass and not one library worker noticed this? Or they did and just said meh? Unfortunately this turned me off so much that I will now utilize online services for my kids to get their reading in. read more

Before moving to GA, the last time I went to a library was while I was studying at USC in L.A. That was over 4 years ago now! Wow... I really need to start reading more in 2012! The Hamilton Mill branch of the Gwinnett County Public Library (GCPL) system, located next to Duncan Creek Park and close to Mill Creek High School, is one of the newest libraries in Gwinnett County. Per their website, this was Gwinnett's first green library, and although it "was designed to achieve LEED Silver Certification from the United States Green Building Council, upon final review it was awarded LEED Gold Certification." I had no idea until I checked out their website. Very cool! Their parking lot offers closer, reserved spaces for hybrid vehicles as well as those who carpool. This library is pretty small, but it's nice and clean inside. They have a quiet room, tables with power outlets for laptops, as well as several computers which can be used by those who have a GCPL card. They also offer free Wi-Fi (password is "gwinnett"), which I always appreciate. I love that you can search for, hold, and renew books through their website. You can borrow each book for 3 weeks and then renew it up to two times through their website. In addition, if the book you want is not at your nearest library in the GCPL system, they will transfer the book to the branch that you want to pick it up from. You can also return their books to any GCPL branch. Overall, the Hamilton Mill branch of the GCPL system gets 5 stars - for their cleanliness, friendly staff, and convenient location. This is a great place to study. I am in a master's program and with 3 kids + a husband, I have to find a place outside of the house to do work and study. The Hamilton Mill branch of this library is excellent! Sunny and charming with lots of activities for children of all ages. They even have Blu-rays available for checkout! The staff is friendly and the selection is pretty broad, all things considered. I wish they had more private seating areas for those of us who don't want a huge table but do want an outlet! Other branches aren't as nice. Buford is tiny with minimal selection. Dacula is better, but not quite as nice as this one. I'd give it 5 stars, but the Hall County branch just down the road on Spout Springs is even better than this one! read more

We love this library! My boys enjoy the preschool story time here, which is usually held weekly. The children's section is awesome, with a large book selection, 4 computers and an iPad mounted on the wall with literacy apps. read more

This library is really clean and eco-friendly, and they have most of the books that I like to read. The staff here is friendly and willing to help you find whatever you need (I used to volunteer here) and it's overall just a really cool place to read, get some homework done, or just to chill out. It's my go-to place for when I need to get things done. 5 stars! read more

After working myself in libraries for over six years, I expected more. The workers at the lawrenceville location could not be less friendly. It absolutely amazes me their inability to smile, speak or sometimes even look up. Our family uses the online hold system and we go and park in the five minute parking only when the books we requested have come in. I don't want my kids to be exposed to these workers for any more than that absolute minimum amount possible. read more
