Gypsy Jewel has started a new addiction of mine, one that I didn't even know that I had. Forget cupcakes, vintage postcards, and stiletto heels that make my legs look a mile long. Those are so last year (although still very close to my heart. Hell, who am I kidding, all of those are still very much in my life). I'm talking bangles, ladies. Beautiful bangles that I have always wanted to try but never got a chance to because even the cheapest bangles found at stores like Forever 21 are overpriced for what you get. At Gypsy Jewel, the wide bangles are $1, medium size 50 cents apiece, and the thinnest bangles (which I got) are 25 cents. They come in all colors, and are the perfect way to spice up any outfit. And a quartar each? So there. This store also sells beautiful clothing, cashmere wraps handmade by Bengalese women (I think that's what I remember), and more upscale jewelry. Here I was buying $2 worth of jewelry as I stood next a jewelry case containing pieces costing upwards of $10,000. And take a a bag, even if what you bought doesn't need one. Printed on the bag is a mock-up (or potentially real) classified section of people seeking marraige partners for their sons or daughters. Very amusing. A must stop by place located on the West End of Pearl at 8th St. The address on Yelp and on the website is wrong. Gypsy Jewel is now another place I have to go by every time I'm in Boulder. read more

An amazing store situated amongst a plethora of mediocre ones. Indeed, this place is a destination in Boulder. When you're walking the pedestrian mall in Boulder you can see how amazing this store is from the outside with all of it's beautiful Indian and Tibetan blankets hung in the windows. That is actually what drew me inside and what I ended up buying here. The lady running the store the day I visited, Toni I think her name is, was extremely informative about where their items came from, who made them, their age, etc. She allowed me to open many blankets before I made my selection. It all made the experience of the store feel very open and inviting. I was focused on their textiles, but they have a lot of other items in the store- clothing, furniture, jewelry, original art, and more. If you are an appreciator of objects from India, Nepal, and Tibet this place is not to be missed. If you're a pedestrian doing some shopping, take some time in here. It will be a welcome respite from many of the cookie cutter shops up and down the Pearl St. walk. You won't be disappointed. read more

I came to this shop looking for a small pendant for a necklace. While they did not have anything in stock, the owner's daughter literally drove to her house to bring me their selection of small gold pendants from southern India. The owner and her daughter were so helpful and kind - they essentially offered to construct me a necklace. The shop was filled with beautiful items at many price points. Gypsy Jewel is probably my most favorite store in all the world. When we moved to Boulder a few years ago I by chance went in one day, I mean it's hard to walk by and not go in. They have the most eclectic and beautiful collection of jewelry I've ever seen. It's treasure upon treasure. What makes it even better is the wonderful and caring family who owns the store. This is an absolutely beautiful little shop. I walked in and was transported to a very zen, meditative sort of place. There were colorful, silk scarves all around, the lovely sound of a fountain that stood in the corner, and it smelled sort of like incense without that burn to the nose. The lady working was very pleasant and helpful. My friend and I were fawning over the very unique jewelry, and she took some out of the cases for us to view. The prices are QUITE steep - $150 dollars for a pair of dangle earrings that aren't gold or rare gemstones. However, she did mention that they have layaway, so that is a very nice option for those types of pieces. I wish I could have curled up in the corner by the fountain in a pile of silk scarves and taken a nap or read a book. read more

I see that there is another review by James G that matches my experience. I have spent hundreds of dollars here since 2000 or was it earlier? It WAS a favorite shop of mine. Aesthetically it is beautiful in there, and I have been really satisfied with purchases I've made over the years. Like James, this time I purchased an expensive (for me) item at the store; a gold-plated or iodized gold bracelet with gems that I bought to symbolize a very serious issue in my life. Prior to purchasing it, I was assured by the shop owner that it would not fade; that it was very well made. After less than two weeks, the gold had indeed faded, noting the silver underneath it. It also bent. I brought the bracelet into the store to get a refund as is the norm it working with retailers when said purchase is not acceptable. The shop owner refused to give me a refund and kept offering store credit. That is not what I wanted. I had made it clear that I was looking for ONLY a bracelet. She refused to budge. She told me "This has never happened before" to which I reasonably responded "Well, it's happening now." As well, I told her that I have been a loyal customer for close to 20 years and this felt very very wrong on the part of her as a shopkeeper, as the bracelet was clearly not high quality and worth what I had paid, let alone that she had guaranteed her product to me when I purchased it. We went round and round. She told me "I don't even have the money to give you" and told me that it was tax season and she had just returned from a buying trip. This is not my problem and it's hard for me to believe that a shopkeeper on Pearl Street would not have the money to refund me. I even said that I would wait for her to GET the money, asking when that would be. She refused. I continued to CALMLY attempt to work with her, never losing my cool. I calmly said "I don't want to have to tell people to not shop here." At that point, she told me "How DARE you threaten me!!!" and completely lost her cool and began yelling at me. Yelling. She quickly wrote me a check for what I paid, less the taxes and told me to get out of her store and to never ever walk foot in there again. She continued to YELL at me. I felt scared. Somehow, I remained calm. I attempted to calm her down and even said, "I know we are both good people and it does not need to be this way" to which she replied that I was NOT a good person. There were two people at the front door who witnessed her verbal attack on me and asked if I was okay. They also spoke that they would never walk foot in there again after what they witnessed. I feel good about how I handled the situation and what a deeply unfortunate and painful experience that could have been resolved easily through integrity and skillful means of business practice. Ouch. I wish her well as a person and that experience was horrific. read more

this place is great. they have an excellent selection of Indian and Tibetan statues and guess what, all about 1/3 the price that you find at other Nepali stores in Boulder. quality is wonderful and staff is very courteous. read more
