We are their first ever customer!

Apparently we were their first customers and they'd just opened! The welcome was very friendly and the chicken gyro pittas were delicious and sizable. Baklava tasty as was the other dessert whose name I forget. I think I saw pictures and decoration about to go up which will complete the place. All the best gentlemen!

Lamb gyro stuffed to the gills.

Roommate was in glens falls and I asked him to pick me up a little something. I got a gyro - it was awesome. They said The sauce was tzatziki but I think they use white sauce. They're not the same. I did ask for the sauce on the side and extra sauce. They put the sauce on the gyro. They did use a lot but I did want it on the side for a reason as I knew I wouldn't be able to eat it all and sauce on a sandwich you can't eat the same day can make it soggy. This sandwich was stuffed to the gills. It had lamb and lettuce and cucumbers. I thought I asked for tomatoes but there are no tomatoes on it. It was so stuffed every time I ate it a piece of meat would fall in my Yorkie was very happy. It was so stuffed I couldn't eat it all and I had the rest just now for breakfast and it was an awesome breakfast. I also got a lemonade which was large and is in the fridge cuz I couldn't eat everything last night. I also got baklava which was awesome. I do not know what the inside is like. The items were all wrapped very well and traveled very well. I will definitely be going again. I am curious why I can eat gyros and I can't eat all the other Mediterranean food there's a spice that is not in gyros that's in the other stuff that my stomach hates even though I love all the spices.

What a gem located near me on Upper Union Street in Schenectady. First time to visit!…read more Ordered: Chicken Chapli with Pita instead of fries (choice) Chicken and Lamb platter with Pita Swarma Wrap Received generous portions of flavorful Mediterranean food. The Chicken and Lamb were moist and tender. I am not a lamb lover, but this lamb could change my mind. The rice was spiced mildly and tasted great with the meats. The pita was cut into small pieces, but I would have preferred a whole or half pita. I will ask next time. The owner supplied me with three different sauces on the side to try ranging from mild to spicy (green one). The Chicken Chapli was a cut up well seasoned chicken patty. A few meat combinations are available. (See pic of Menu) The Swarma Wrap was moist and a little messy to eat since I sliced it into two portions. It had a medium spiced sauce and small salad pieces such as cucumber. Not my favorite. The owner was friendly and thanked me for my business. He said they cater for as few as ten people if interested. I commented on the long hours they are open (10 am to 1:15 am), and he responded with a smile, "We're from the City." There are several tables to dine in if wanted. Lots of natural light from the large front windows makes the place inviting. The pick up counter with kitchen behind it is beyond the tables. The walls are decorated nicely, and the place screamed CLEAN. Parking is in front, and the restaurant is easy to access. There are no steps to enter. I look forward to ordering again soon, especially when family visits. Quality, healthy well prepared food to enjoy at home. Please check out my photos to get a sense of the experience.

I finally decided to try Shams Al Yemen after bookmarking them months ago and I'm so glad I did!…read more I visited on a Saturday evening with my fiance and we were both Yemeni food newbies. They brought us out a cup of lamb broth and chopped salad. The soup had tasty spices in it and felt like a cross between tea and soup. The salad was super fresh. We ordered the hummus, Chicken Agda and Chicken Saltah, both of which were served piping hot in clay bowls. The Agda is a root vegetable stew with chicken and the Saltah has more of a fresh herb taste as it has a lot of cilantro in it, which I loved. All three items came with clay oven bread, which is huge and was served piping hot and fresh. Everything was so good! The space quite large and modern with many different tables. It seems like a family run business and they're very friendly and attentive. Highly recommend!

I was dining alone and sat at the counter, where I could watch the team prepare each meal. You are essentially sitting right in the kitchen, with only the counter separating you from the chefs and staff. It made the entire experience much more interesting and gave me a real appreciation for the effort that goes into every dish. I started with the lumpia, which I loved. The sauce was absolutely delicious. For dinner, I had the scallops with gnocchi, and the food was excellent. My server, whom I believe was named Tristan, was also outstanding. He was always available when needed but never hovered. The service was perfectly balanced. I was there for a little over an hour, and not once did I see anyone in the kitchen standing around. It was a fast-paced, hardworking environment, and everyone was completely focused on preparing and serving the food. At most restaurants, all of this work happens behind closed doors. Being able to watch the preparation gave me an even greater appreciation for my meal and the people who made it. This is definitely a restaurant you should experience for yourself. I will absolutely be returning with friends.

Our waiter was super attentive and even though it took some time for the food to come out, I think given the quality of everything we ate, it was worth it. I got the raspberry mint mojito cocktail which was delicious and I pinched a sip or two of kid's lemonade made from fresh lemons, perfect level of sweetness. We tried the sweet potato pakoras and lumpia and the trio of house made dips (we liked the green mint-e one best). Everything was tasty, including the sauces that came up with them. Our kids shared the ramen which they split into two large bowls that didn't even look like a split dish given how much it was. My wife got the spare ribs which melted off the bones and had great flavor. The scallop dish I ordered came with six scallops that were a good size and also came with some gnocci, a delicious and unique sauce, and an unusual lobster with veggie type of ceviche salad accoutrement. I have the sense that the menu changes regularly here. The chef/owner came out and greeted us after the meal to ask how everything was and we could honestly respond that it was our best meal of the week. Subsequently we tried to sample many items from their desert menu and again Bastard did not disappoint. Surprisingly the "S'Mores," a more adult take on the kid's classic, was one of our favorites. Given the unique take on a variety of globally inspired dishes and great attention to detail, I would love to try Bastard again the next time I'm in the area.
