Lake George, NY - I can never resist a halal cart plate, so when we needed a quick late dinner after a longish drive up, I was glad to find Gyro Hut within a short walk from our hotel. We ordered a couple of rice platters: chicken kabob, and the chicken + lamb mix, and both are heartily portioned, with a salad, and a heap of marinated jalapeños that my husband requested for a side since we are both spicy people. The kabobs are fragrant, and the rice slightly over-seasoned, edging toward flavor packet territory, but that didn't stop us from devouring both platters with zero complaints and zero leftovers. Is it my favorite NYC halal cart level good? No. But still quite tasty, filling, and generously sized. Excellent hot sauce too - not some weaksauce. I appreciate that the fresh squeezed plain lemonade comes in a huge tub and is just water and lemon - not the sugar bomb you typically get. Sugar is available for self-administration, or, if you insist, an artificial flavored syrup can be added (bubblegum flavored lemonade? Hmm I don't know...but I won't judge.) The also offer Hawaiian shaved ice, but I'm not banking on its authenticity. The outdoor patio is open in warmer weather. read more

Ughhhhhhh I was really looking forward to the food here and it was quite disappointing. Maybe if they wrote what was in the salads then I would be more prepared. But the salads had shredded lettuce, black olives, onion tomatoes then jarred jalapeños, banana peppers ... PICKLES... and whole pepperchinis. All the gyro places in Lake George seem to be fast casual Indian restaurants in disguise. We got a chicken gyro and a beef gyro. The chicken was made in more of a tandoori chicken style. I had never had that in Gyro but it was good! My husband is Indian and we both like Mediterranean food, so this was a good match for us. Good some tasty samosas too with some hot chutney. I had to pass on that chutney. Too hot. They have both indoor and outdoor seating and are right on the tourist strip in the middle of everything. A good place to stop after the arcade! Came here recently on a quiet, cold day. The place was empty except for one worker behind the counter and someone doing renovations. We ordered at the counter and it was a bit pricey, compared to what I am used to in NYC. I wasn't sure if any of the other toppings were included such as banana peppers, but I didn't ask so I guess I'll not know. We were very surprised and impressed with this. We're regular halal cart eaters in NYC, and the quality of combo over rice here stood up to that of the better carts. Really flavorful white and hot sauce too. The salad was very fresh on the side. The outside didn't look like anything special, and the fact that there was pizza on the menu was also concerning... Was craving shawarma or something similar and the place that we've been hitting recently was closed today. We drove by Gyro Hut and noticed it was open, so we went in and were greeted right away. I ordered the chicken gyro - it's served with lettuce, tomato and red onion....and was asked if I'd like the white sauce on it. Yes, please! And...a side of hot sauce as well....thank you very much. We also ordered a gyro platter - served over rice with a small salad on the side. It wasn't busy at all on a Sunday around noon during the "almost off season" in Lake George...but there were some people coming in as we were leaving. There's a large patio with seating outside that is available for Gyro Hut customers but we chose to take everything home. Food was still warm when we were ready to eat and the chicken gyro was AWESOME! Really generous portion of moist, perfectly spiced chicken on a nice, hot pita with all the aforementioned fixin's. The gyro platter did not disappoint and I tasted the rice - a lovely long grain saffron situation. There's an area inside that looks like it will be open for dining (or maybe it was over the summer?), but it was dark and seemingly closed off at the moment. Doesn't matter - get the food to go. I'm guessing the menu is pared down at the moment and will continue to be assuming they will be open throughout the fall/winter months (which I certainly hope is the case). If they remain open during the Lake George "off" season - I'll be a regular for sure. read more

Highly recommend this place if you're a fan of this food. As an OG street cart visitor in NYC, this places food is very flavorful and authentic. Their portions are generous and their hospitality is really great. The friendliness of the staff really makes the food experience. We had an enjoyable experience here. It was our first time in Lake George and it was a short walk from our hotel. We got the Lamb and Chicken Kebab plates that were more than most could eat for only $12. The gentleman who took our order was pleasant and the food was delivered quickly. Any legit gyro place slices their meats right off the prominently displayed rotisserie. This one had the rotisserie with some meat on it, but the guy yanked out the Tupperware instead . Weird. The fries were a little short of crispy but not bad. My wife had the lamb platter, which I had a bite of and also enjoyed. All in all, this place is what one would typically expect from places offering similar cuisine. If you order a platter, you may consider asking for extra veggies and pickles to balance the dish, if you enjoy those kinds of things. I think I saw some indoor seating tucked away in the back, but we sat outside (think picnic tables and umbrellas). This is not a sit-down place--we ordered at the counter.
