This place is close to everything, so if you are here for tourism purposes, this is a great place to stay. The hotel is decent. Rooms were large and comfortable. Our room had a great view of the city. They also have music shows during the weekend, although we didn't have time to attend them. They seem short-staffed. Housekeeping is only available if you stay for 3 nights or more. After the 2nd night, they will replace towels, trash, etc and full housekeeping service happens after the 4th night.  Also, our room had a couple of towels with holes in them. Check-in is at 4.30pm, which IMO, is pretty late. Do not expect early check-in to be available. Room rates are pretty high for the services, but given its location, I guess that's expected. read more

Terrible hotel. What a huge mistake to stay here. Toilet broke multiple times. Each time they reassured us that things would work again and they did not. Told them heat did not work, which is unfortunate because it's in the middle of February and freezing cold. Had to go to front desk multiple times to complain. Very pretty hotel walking distance to all the cute restaurants and shops near the waterfront in Quebec City. Room was comfortable. Indoor pool with open ceiling and lots of hanging plants was really fun to come back to in the evenings. Staff was very friendly and helpful. My travel partner and myself were treated poorly by the servers in the hotels bar. We tried to eat in the restaurant and were placed in the bar instead. The server was rude, argued with us and walked away while talking to him. My room was dirty. Dust bunnies, dirt under sink in my bathroom. We extended our stay 1 night, which was booked in March 2025 for a December arrival. Upon our arrival we were told there wasn't a room for us in the same category but there was a luxury suite available for almost $600 a night. We took the room which was above a reception hall. We complained about the noise. We got no satisfaction from this establishment. They don't let you talk to the managers, they put you on hold and come back with some unacceptable explanation. There is no customer service here. Stay clear. I'm sure there are much nicer places to stay in Quebec. read more

We stayed here for two nights recently, and found it to be adequate. The location is very close to the downtown walled city entrance, so convenient for meals and sightseeing. Upon first entering the room, it was noted the floor was dirty. It looked as if the room was not swept, vacuumed or mopped. Ew! We were never given fresh towels, and they don't provide housekeeping service for shorter stays. The indoor pool is similar to Embassy Suites we have in the states. We enjoyed the pool and jacuzzi. The breakfast buffet served its purpose. There were interesting items like a pizza dish, egg mcmuffin, burrito, and scrambled eggs with a sour cream taste. The service in the buffet was good, but don't expect them to open the door one minute early! read more

My experience here could have been great except the hotel has the WORST customer service. The manager, Keven Desrosiers was rude. When we arrived, we noticed there were homeless people sleeping on the stoop of the hotel that we had to walk over to gain entry. I mentioned this to their security. Two days later as I entered the hotel, I slipped and fell on spilled liquid on their stairs. I broke the glass of my phone and scraped my hands and toe. I went to the front desk and was asked to fill out a form. The next day no one from the hotel contacted me. The day after I went down to the front desk but they were too busy to meet with me. I was asked to write and email detailing what I had already written out for them. The manager, Keven Desrosiers, called me and let me know that the hotel bears zero responsibility for their property and I would not be compensated for my damaged property. The Jaro company needs to know what type of place this is and how horrible their customer service is. It had ruined a wonderful trip to Quebec City. Two days later, I phoned Keven's boss, Maggie. She looked into the incident and phoned me and let me know the hotel would take care of repairing my phone. She was pleasant, professional and did what should have been done by the inept lower management at the hotel. So, I'm updating my review to show appreciation for righting this wrong and to let people know that the hotel itself is quite nice and really convenient for those who want to explore the old town. Don't stay here if you can avoid it. They're not helpful or accommodating and the customer service is terrible. Manager Jean Francois was especially bad. We asked him to remove a charge for fast internet which never worked. He refused to remove it or be at all helpful and instead fought with us over a small charge. read more

Location is great! The hotel is on the fancy side, but is not the most modern (fake vines, old furniture, musty carpet) Still, the rooms were clean and fairly large. Half of the rooms have balconies that overlook the pool. It's a cool idea, but smell of chlorine travels. I wish the ceiling to the pool opened to let in some fresh air. Do not fall for this attractive ad behind this is not a healthy atmosphere of the customer service and you can be ripping off without any explanations and the reasons. After my checked out from the hotel and arriving home, I saw a charges on my bank statement more than $56 without explanation and the my multiple attempts to contact the manager ended unsuccessfully and management did not even bother to call me back to resolve the issue. read more

You have to pay for high speed internet for video calls. I had two important work video conferences and even though I paid extra money for high speed internet, the call quality was HORRIBLE. I was unable to participate in these work meetings because the video continued to freeze and the voice was robotic. When I informed the receptionist and then the supervisor, I was told that I needed to call technical support. I tried calling o explain that I had already missed my important meetings. The supervisor was unhelpful, impolite and refused to refund the charge of the internet. The hotel is a corporate chain that does not care for their customers. read more

Would I stay here again? That's always the short and long of a hotel review, and I will give this a solid yes, yes I would. There are some oddities and caveats, though. The location is superb. It's just a block above the citadelle wall, and our 9th floor room had a fantastic view of the Saint Laurent and the sights of the old upper town. It's a block from parliament and generally pretty accessible. You pay for underground parking, but with in and out privileges if you want to day trip or drive. We got a little family suite that was quiet (relative to the other guests) and well-appointed. The floor to ceiling windows were lovely. If you can get a rate (as we did, in the off-season, with a favorable exchange rate) it really feels like a fantastic bargain. (The interior rooms have balconies overlooking the atrium/pool.) Housekeeping was good, although they didn't vacuum under the beds. Issues: The room was cheaply finished. Gaps in the floorboards and molding, one bit of the sliding glass in the bathroom peeling, and the headboard on one bed fell off (it was hung by hooks, without being fixed with screws). Just shoddy. It's newer, so it wasn't so bad, although two of us got minor foot injuries from padding around on the floor with the odd gaps. Also, there's a very ornamental french door with glass windows separating the main room from the bedroom which is completely useless: it doesn't block light or sound from one room to the other, so what's the point of having a suite? I highly recommend to the management they consider replacing these with sturdier soundproof doors. The pool is in the middle of a high atrium, which is spacious and nice, but there's no changing area in the pool area and the floor is seriously slippery amidst the fake stonework. The pool is mid-sized so nice enough for the kids to splash in but not big enough for laps. Pet peeves: dispensers on the shower wall for soap and shampoo? Really? That's kind of a Motel 8 touch in what ought to be a higher end place. Given one of them didn't work and they were at an odd spot if you were taking a bath, annoying. Then there's the hangars with the little balls to prevent one from stealing them instead of real hangars. I understand why it's done but again - not exactly four-stars of class. The Beffroi restaurant in the basement served a very nice classic French breakfast (excellent crepes), at the usual extortionate hotel prices, but there's also many alternatives in the neighborhood if you want something lighter or more casual (a Second Cup in the next block over). The Depanneur/Tabagie in the basement is very basic, there's a larger one just across the street downhill. read more

This was a very beautiful hotel, located in a prime portion of Quèbec. The rooms were spacious and luxurious and walking to destinations was quite easy. They also had a parking garage for their guests nearby (extra charge). The lot was convient but had extremely tight spaces (would not recommend for suvs/minivans). The price of the hotel was extremely high and the service did not match the price. Often, the room was not fully cleaned by the time we returned at night (dirty cups, full trash cans, unchanged sheets). Location is great. that is the only thing good about this hotel. 4 of us went for a get away and we found the room pleasant, until we needed ice (all machines were broken). some of us took a shower that night and the height of the tub was not safe in my opinion. out for dinner and found nothing was cleaned when we returned.I had to call for towels, garbage taken care of, coffee and all that goes with that. Paper products , toilet paper and kleenex were one ply roughest paper I've ever used. it was like what a store would wrap your glass products in. I would never book this hotel again. read more

Great location right outside of Old Quebec. We booked our week long stay for an excellent price through Expedia. Our room was an attractively appointed suite. The balcony was fairly large and featured a table and 2 chairs. Double doors led from our living space to our king bed. THIS WAS THE MOST COMFORTABLE BED I'VE EVER SLEPT ON. NO LIE! It also had a beautiful bathroom with a wonderful tub and shower. I loved staying there. Going back to the room at the end of the day was always a treat. read more

I very much enjoyed my stay at this lovely hotel. The rooms are very clean and have laminate flooring, which is a bonus for anyone who distrusts hotel carpets! The bed was very comfortable - a rarity for hotels (at least in my experience). In the centre column of the hotel there are some hanging gardens and the pool, which does tend to give the hallways a slightly chlorinated smell. Front desk staff and concierge are so friendly and accommodating. The restaurant staff are lovely as well. In fact, I can't praise them enough for their friendly efficiency. The hotel is ideally located a short walk from the oldest fortified city in North America, beautiful shops, Laval University school of architecture, and many fantastic photo ops. We had a positive experience there. It was just outside of the Old Quebec City's walls - just a stone's throw, which was perfect since each time we walked out of the hotel we got to immediately pass through the ancient gate and into a whole new world. The room was very small, but also very lovely and cozy. Amazingly comfortable bed and a large bathtub. We stopped at the hotel bar both nights we were there. It was a cute space, and the bartenders were awesome. The first night was a young man with a dude bun - we asked him to get creative with our drinks and he did... and they were delicious. The next night was a young woman - she chatted with us and kept us entertained the entire time we were there. The front desk staff was great, and the concierge helped us form our tourist plan, complete with complimentary maps and recommendations. We didn't end up using the pool, but it looked great too. Stayed here for 3 nights while I was in town because the hotel was close to the conference centre and the Delta and Hilton were sold out. So glad I did! It was absolutely great, the hotel was beautiful and my suite had a little balcony overlooking the pool. It was so cute and comfortable, it even had a working fireplace! I was really impressed with the convenience store in the basement level and the laundromat downstairs! I had dinner and drinks at both the Beffroi and le Fou du Rou, service was great and attentive! Visited this hotel twice in a span of 4 weeks, and I'm glad I did not write a review right after my stay, as both stays were for different reasons, with different outcomes. My first stay was a romantic weekend, in a corner suite on the top floor. This was easily a 5 star experience, as the room was great, clean, with a very comfortable bed and a great view. My second stay was with my kids, and that would have to be rated 3 stars at most. During our first visit we saw that the hotel had a pool, so we chose it for this exact reason, so the kids could go swimming. It turns out that the pool is just disgustingly dirty, with hair and who knows what floating in it. The water is cold, adding insult to injury. Trying to find refuge in the jacuzzi, you end up getting a chlorinated bath - I think there was more chlorine than water in there. The average between 3 and 5 is 4, and the staff are simply excellent, both in terms of friendliness and attention to your needs. The underground parking garage is very convenient and priced better than other garages in the area, as you can keep your car there until 18:00 on the day of departure. read more

Have a reservation for Easter weekend and although it called for rain we thought we'd bring an umbrella and stick it out since we've always wanted to see Quebec. 24hrs before we are to check in we see a weather warning that has residents being evacuated due to flooding and with the 2 more days of rain it will only get worse. We called and spoke to the company we booked through and they were helpful and spoke to the hotel who took till the next day to tell us they wouldn't even switch our reservation till the following weekend or another day. We understand that a refund wouldn't be possible on such short notice and weren't asking for one but to have someone come to a place we're they are asking people to leave is putting us in danger and just plain greedy read more

Stayed two nights this past week. Checkin was quick - albeit slightly marred by a rude clerk. All other staff we encountered were extremely friendly and pleasant. Lobby was nice enough. Rooms are decent. Clean and well kept. Soap, shampoo dispensers in the showers were very seemingly misplaced and tacky. Small issue in that we had to call down numerous times to get toiletries (ahem toilet paper) and when they finally did come it was like that one roll of toilet paper was a huge favour to ask. Location is excellent. Centrally located and close to everything one would want to see, making travel by foot easy. (Loved the hilly streets for a morning run ahead of all the pastries we ate!) Underground parking - not sure if this is how underground parking here is but the exposed black rock and lack of lighting made for one creepified experience. Not to mention the space is very, extremely tight, so if you roll in a large sized suv, be warned. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would return if we came back to Old Quebec. read more

To my suprise when i reeched my room the balcony door was locked. I called the front desk politly asking them to unlock my balcony which i had paid for. The manager abruplty disregded my greif. Our group booked 12 rooms at Hotel Palace Royal on July 3rd, 2017. This was supposed to be a fun family trip immediately following our wedding, but the hotel turned it into a nightmare. The hotel gave two of our rooms, after we checked-in, to others...producing duplicate keys for them & allowing entry into our rooms. First, they gave my parent in law's room (they are both over 70 year old) away. Fortunately, it was us. We were shocked when we checked in and found their bags inside our room. I felt very unsafe, thinking what would have happened if they were in the room and strangers had opened the room instead. Second, my brother's room was given to another guest while he was exploring Quebec with his family (including 2 toddlers). His bags and medicine were moved out unattended to the lobby; his work laptop was left in the room (inside the locked safe) as the new guest was simply told the previous guest checked out and forgot their luggages. He came back around midnight, upset and not knowing where to stay as the hotel didn't know what room they moved him to. It's traumatic for the tired kids as it took over an hour to figure things out. We ended up giving his family our room while figuring out the whole thing. The other guest was also very upset when the hotel tried to retrieve my brother's laptop past midnight as she also had little kids. To add insult to injury, when my husband and brother in law tried to work things out the next morning, the manager initially only offered free breakfast OR refund of only one hotel room as compensation. We ended up begrudgingly settling for the room refund and some credit to replace my brother's medicine. In short whatever good this hotel might have, the safety risk posed by either incompetence or poor system is not worth it. Overall we'd recommend this hotel. It's a great location if you are visiting old Quebec City. Just walk around the corner and you will be in the old part - it's right next to the historic wall. We do not recommend the restaurant. We ate there once for breakfast and had the buffet. Standard buffet style food and pricy although it seems like all many restaurants in old Quebec are a bit pricy. At our dinner there was some mistake with our order and it took an hour and a half to get our food. They apologized and gave us free dessert. But the food wasn't good. In terms of the hotel - try to get a room that doesn't overlook the center area. In the center there's a pool and the noise traveled up to the top floor. The room was nice and I like that the floors were not carpeted since I have dust allergies and flooring is better for them. For those interested -the fitness center had treadmills and some other cardio equipment and a selection of free weights. In conclusion I think if the restaurant were better we'd give it more stars. So I had a reservation for one night with my wife as a Valentine gift, needless to say this place is pretty expensive if you're middle class like me. Unfortunately I caught a virus the very same day and was very sick, woke up late. Called to cancel but couldn't because I was 45 minutes past 11am which is the max time set for cancellations. They said I couldn't cancel free of cost, they still charged me 200$ and there was no way I could get out of bed as sick as I was. So I ended up 200$ poorer with literally nothing to show for it. I find this very rude to force someone to pay for something you're not going to use, even more if I only called 45 minutes late. I'm sure they would have found another customer. We came here as part of a tour group. The accommodations were spectacular in every way! The room was beautiful, the air control was great, the bed and pillow was very comfortable, the decor was perfect. I wish we had more than two nights here to be able to really enjoy this gem. It is in the perfect location, right at the brink of Old Quebec. For under $200, this place seemed to provide a $500 value. The location was, I think, exactly where any tourist would want to stay for a weekend in Quebec City. The staff were very helpful, polite, and bilingual. We chose the cheapest room option, but to us it seemed like a master suite type of setting. It was more like a fancy one bedroom apartment than a hotel room. The bathroom is bigger than my bedroom at home. The pool/jacuzzi was neat. Gym was small, but didn't really matter since nobody else was there while we used it. You have to pay $20+ to park each day, but if you just include that as part of your hotel room cost per night, the value is still amazing, in my opinion. The parking garage is very simple. It's under the hotel, so they just give you a barcode that you can scan while entering/leaving so you have unlimited in/out freedom of movement. Quebec City itself is very hilly (steep at at). It'd be challenging to get around on foot if you have issues walking at all. But, that's not the hotel's fault, of course. read more

We stayed for 3 nights. The location is *ideal* for exploring Quebec City's neighborhoods, and the staff is helpful and welcoming. The only problem--and the only reason we rate the hotel 3 rather than 4 stars--is the architectural design, which is both one of the hotel's charms and its Achilles' heel. Many if not most rooms have windows and balconies that face a beautiful multi-story enclosed courtyard housing the pool and hot tub. The area is bright and decorated with lovely vegetation. *It also magnifies and carries every little sound, including those from the pool deck and from the guests' balconies.* When families have their toddlers out on their balconies in the very early morning hours, their amplified chirps and cries make it impossible to sleep. The same is true when adults socialize in the late night hours--it's like they are speaking and laughing through powerful megaphones. Therefore our room's lack of soundproofing and light proofing made sleeping difficult. Unless you can sleep through anything, we'd recommend requesting a room that does NOT open towards the courtyard. Also, the faint smell of chlorine that permeates everything didn't bother us, but if your nose would be sensitive to that, that would be another reason to be sure to get an exterior room. (Footnote: It's not that any of the other guests were being rude or inconsiderate, it's just that all sounds were so amplified.) read more
