They couldn't find a problem with the starter and recommended a new battery. $77 I had the battery checked and was told by the Brunette Battery that the problem wasn't with the battery. I eventually took my vehicle to another repair shop and they discovered the ferrule connector on the ignition signal wire was loose. They replaced the ferrule and the issue disappeared. In December 2025 the starter stopped working. When the new shop checked it out they told me the nut securing the power line from the battery had been cross-threaded and had worked loose causing short circuits. They suggested this was the probable cause for the starter/solenoid failure. While I'm unhappy with the quality of work done on the starter replacement, I feel ripped off on the "diagnosis" service charge as it appears they didn't put the car on the hoist, to check the starter connections, only testing the electrical systems from above, (under the hood).

It is hard enough to find a good, honest mechanic, but Cloverdale ARC seems to go above and beyond in every respect. The location is good, the shop is organized and clean, and the people are kind. If I wasn't from out of country they would have my business long term!

They were going to charge me for a new converter. I was devastated since the price was already going to be over $600 based on what they told me and that was a surprise as well. When they told me it was going to be $600, I told them to quit working on it since it was just loud. They said they were too far into the job to stop and I am on disability from being in an accident and can't afford much right now. After I left, I headed about a 4 hour drive away in which the engine light came on and I lost the ability to increase speed. It was "bank 1 sensor 1". The 02 sensor. I took the car back to them, and they said they would only charge me for the part and no labor. They also said that it wasn't possible for the work they did to have caused the new issue. They quoted me $200 for the part. I went to the pick and pull, got the part and was going to do it myself but the bolt was seized. I spoke to my trusted mechanic that was just too far for me to take my car to in the first place, and he told me that they should have removed the 02 sensor before applying any heat and that it most certainly could burn out the sensor and just for the simple fact that it was seized on there meant they hadn't removed it before applying heat. It was not giving any codes before they worked on it. When I went in for them to replace the 02 sensor with the one I had pulled, they tried to charge me $145 for labor because I brought my own part in. They were adamant that they couldn't have possibly caused the issue and I should be more grateful for the work they did on my car earlier to help me out, even though I felt pushed into the work in the first place, as if I had no choice. When I explained what my mechanic said how it was possible, the owner got in my face, pointing his finger at me and raised his voice at me and told me to take my car and leave. I took the car to another mechanic shop, and they said they would charge me for 30 minutes labor and not up-charge for bringing my own part which would be less than $50 and this new shop had nothing to do with the issue.

1) Upsell Through Misrepresentation of Services…read more I came in for an oil change. Upon arrival, the staff tells me that there is sludge on the oil tank cap. He tells me that it is necessary for him to flush the engine before he is able to proceed. I say okay and was ushered back into my car. Within a minute, I go back out and ask the staff to not proceed with the flush. The staff says that he had already flushed the engine and that there was nothing he could do about it now. During the rest of the service, I ask more questions about the legitimacy of the service and the staff member tells me that the internet cannot be trusted. I then call the Vancouver Volkswagen dealership and confirmed my last oil change service date I did with them as well as mileage. The Volkswagen dealership relays that given the time and mileage between the oil change, that sludge formation was highly improbable and that if that was in fact the situation, that that would indicate a severe problem with the engine. I asked the staff if there was anything wrong with the engine, to which he says no. I argue that given the information provided that a flush was unnecessarily and that the staff had either misdiagnosed or mispresented the situation and service needed. The staff refused to acknowledge any wrongdoing. 2) Repeated refusals to honor agreed upon solutions Following the issues mentioned above, I spoke with the manager and he told me that he would refund the amount for the engine flush. He said that he would speak to his supervisor and that the refund will be processed the next day. The next day, I called back and the manager said that he could only refund half of the amount back. I was reluctant to the refund amount but agreed. Following the call, I posted a review on Google illustrating the interactions above. Half an hour later, the manager calls back and says "I saw your review on Google, no more refund for you", dishonoring yet another refund agreement.

They wanted $275.00 just for tranmission fluid change AND $135.00 for filter change. They told me the filter kit costs $63.00 but Lordco is selling them for $25.00. They tried to reel up the tranmission fluid change to $410.00 plus taxes meanwhile Mr.Lube is only charging $280.00 for everything.
