Truly, if you're looking for an experienced, trustworthy, timely, expert crew, my husband and I fully recommend H&E. Alonso has comprehensive knowledge of plants that will thrive--especially in California/ Bay Area climate--which was a huge plus in the end!! In the backyard, we had a clearer vision of the layout and Alonso and crew still managed to surpass our own expectations. In the front yard, we didn't have a super solid plan or idea, and after showing Alonso a few images of homes/vibes we liked, he recommended a few ideas and executed perfectly there, too. H&E Landscape did a fantastic job landscaping our front yard. We are on a corner lot that was quite unattractive with dead lawn filled with weeds. Alonso worked with us to create a beautiful yard with new sod, plants and bark plus a beautiful new tree. In addition, he also installed a new irrigation system and landscape lighting. He spent time with us at a wholesale nursery and was very patient while my daughter and I took plenty of time to select the new plants and tree. The project also included a new front porch railing. His crew worked very hard and the whole project took less time than expected. Alonso was fantastic to work with and we are so happy to finally have a front yard we can be proud of. read more

Had such a fantastic experience working with Alonso and the team at H&E Landscaping. From the initial visit and quote, to planning and designing and through the work process on-site. Every step was very professional, had good and consistent communication, they had great ideas and they were very collaborative/responsive. He and his crew were very considerate of our home and space, cleaning up every day (even mid-project) to leave their work area very tidy and even pressure washing the work area, sidewalk and garden area. There was no trace of them at the end of any day they were here and they worked quickly to get the project done. We've had a few contractor disaster stories since moving into this house, and we've been totally blown away by how awesome this landscaping process was with H&E. All costs matched the initial quote and the work timeline was even shorter than expected, though weather was an issue...they worked through rain and drizzle, well beyond the call of duty. I don't have many photos of the yard before they started, but suffice to say all three tiers of the front yard and the entire backyard were covered in 4-foot high weeds and really terrible soil that would grow nothing. It was a massive cleanup project with a lot of manual labor and these guys handled it with aplomb. From there they carted off the wretched soil and brought in new soil to lay a better foundation for new plants. They also built up the stone partition (retaining walls) in front and back, and they transferred some small oak trees from the front yard to the back before transforming the front into a California desert landscape. It was a true transformation and so well done. (See pics) Have no "cons" to report, because it's been that great to work with this company and team. They deserve every piece of business they can get, and we look forward to working with them on the continued maintenance of our yard. read more

I met with Alonso with H&E as we were concluding our home remodel and it suddenly dawned on me our back yard needed to be overhauled and landscaped. I met with Alonso, and he was very helpful and executed very well on planting of a new lawn, irrigation, and some edge plants around the perimeter. In addition, he fixed the lighting in the backyard as well. They did a great job and went the extra mile by putting in all new bark in the backyard. If you are looking for an expensive solution for your basic landscaping care, this is the place! Very poor experience. We scheduled a consultation for around 4pm for an estimate, and Alonso never showed. I canceled a different 5:30pm appointment patiently figuring he'd at least arrive by 6pm or so (I understand that schedules can get messed up with service businesses, but a more timely text would have gone a long way here). He finally texted me @ 6:45pm saying he was about 20 minutes out, which would have been too dark to really see our property well. We agreed to reschedule. Being proactive prior to trying to reschedule with him, I wanted to get a rough estimate and sent several photos of our very average yard and lawn (we only have a small lawn in front, and trees at the side and back that only need pruning twice a year). He supplied a quote of between $320-$360 a month! This included mowing, blowing (ok so far), and also included weeding, fertilizing, lawn aeration, and an irrigation check once a month, per his text. None of the latter were things that would be needed on a weekly or even a monthly basis for our property. We basically just needed the usual weekly mow & blow most months, and I understood that anything much above that would be extra, which I tried to explain to him to see if we could get to a more reasonable monthly price for what we needed. He came back with a $200 a month estimate. I recommended we still schedule another appointment so he could get a better idea of what we were looking for before giving us a final quote. At this point Alonso stopped responding to texts and ghosted us. I don't like to give service businesses bad reviews, but this one was well earned. We have since found another service with MUCH more reasonable prices for our basic needs. read more

Alonso at H&E Landscaping did a wonderful transformation of our brick walkway to the front door of our house! The walkway is about 70 feet long from the front drive to the steps up to the door. He and his team removed the existing brick walkway, that had deteriorated over the years, extended the steps at the front door to face the front of the lot, added a curved approach and applied brick cladding over the concrete steps. Several people have exclaimed how our beautiful and welcoming walkway draws people to our front door! Alonso is very skilled, easy to work with and trustworthy. Highly recommended! I highly recommend H&E Landscaping. Our front steps and patio surround were made of old brick which was looking old and not appealing. The front porch cement flooring had layers of peeling paint. Alonso and his crew, recently installed new stones to cover our brick steps and patio. They also stuccoed over the brick surround which completely changed the look of the house. They were very professional and they are amazing craftsman. The work came out beautifully. I really appreciated Alonso's attention to detail and his involvement with the project daily. Alonso also has a great sense of design, and offered valuable ideas that really worked well for the look I was striving for. He was always diligent in returning phone calls for questions. Part of our sloped front yard had been slowly sinking for years. We'd filled it in before, but this time dirt was eroding from underneath the nearby stairs, which we were afraid might cave in eventually. We knew we needed professional help, and Alonso and his crew came through for us. Not only was Alonso's quote competitive, but he had clear ideas from the start about what needed to be done. What he suggested seemed well-thought-out; much better than solutions other companies suggested. Holidays and rain delayed our start, but we were happy to wait a short time to have things done right! In the end our project was fairly simple and required no major structural work. In addition to filling and cementing the stairs, Alonso and crew removed our old lawn, redid the irrigation, filled in and compacted the soil, installed wire mesh to keep out gophers, added new lawn, and cleared the border of weeds. This took his crew of 3-4 just one day plus a few hours, at least a day less than planned. The whole crew (Alonso, Miguel, Jose, Sylvester, and Elias) were friendly and respectful of our property, and followed COVID protocols (they were all masked). When they were done with the work, Alonso told us how to take care of our new lawn (and gave us suggestions for another part of our yard), left us some sprinkler parts, and offered to order additional supplies for us as needed. We are very happy with the work that Alonso and his team did in our backyard. They built a big Trex deck, removed a very large old tree, added drainage pipes to backyard, installed electrical for path lights, deck lights and up lights, installed flagstone and decomposed granite area, installed nice metal planting borders, fixed part of our old fence, planted large border, trimmed existing old trees, and planted pots with succulents. Alonso is very prompt and responsive by phone and text, and his crew is very hard working and professional. The price was good, and only went over the original budget because we liked everything so much and kept adding more stone and plants. He had wonderful ideas of what to do with a difficult front yard, on a slope, poor soil, etc. He took the time to discuss my project, made many good suggestions and took my vision and made it work with the circumstances. He was on site for the construction and consulted me many times to make sure I understood what they were building. His crew was friendly, cleaned up after themselves, showed up when he said they would and completed the job within the time frame. His pricing was very competitive (I got five different bids) and he explained to me what was driving the costs. Overall, he is very responsive, pleasant and easy to work with. Alonso and his crew from H&E Landscaping completed our job in April of this year, and we couldn't be happier. We removed our front lawn and surrounding plants which were no longer thriving, and replaced them with a mix of native/drought tolerant plants. We did have a plan from a landscape designer but we weren't completely happy with it, so Alonso took those ideas and added his own which we love.
