Very disappointing experience at H&M on the Country Club Plaza in Kansas City. I was shopping and had spent about $70 when I urgently needed to use a restroom due to my disability and spinal cord damage. I explained my situation to the employee checking me out, but was refused access. I went down the street to use a bathroom, but unfortunately ended up peeing myself a little on the way, which was extremely humiliating. I then returned to speak with the manager. I explained that because of my disability, I cannot always wait when I need to use the restroom. She told me, "I don't know what to tell you. We don't have a public restroom." I tried to educate her that turning away a disabled person who may not be able to make it to another business is something she should be ashamed of. Her response was, "Well, I'm not." I explained that I was asking for a reasonable accommodation because of a medical necessity. Instead of trying to help, security was called. I asked the manager for her name so I could file a complaint, but she refused and walked away. The employee behind the counter then told me they were calling the police and that I would be arrested if I didn't leave. I understand H&M does not have to provide a public restroom to shoppers. However, the ADA can require reasonable modifications for disabled customers when medically necessary. I left feeling humiliated and deeply disappointed by the lack of compassion. Disabled customers deserve dignity, understanding and reasonable accommodations. read more

I visited this store a few weeks ago and had one of the worst customer service experiences I have ever encountered. I asked an employee if she could help me find the dress that was displayed on a mannequin in my size, as I had been unable to locate it on the sales floor. She told me that she needed permission to remove the dress from the mannequin and asked me to wait nearby. After waiting quite a while, I noticed another employee taking the dress off the mannequin while assisting two other customers. I approached her and explained that I had been waiting for that dress and had been told to stay nearby while the first employee got permission. She dismissed my concern, stated that no one had informed her, and proceeded to give the dress to the other customers. A short time later, I found the employee who was supposed to be helping me. She admitted that she had forgotten about me. When I tried to discuss the situation with both employees, they threatened to call security because, according to them, I was "making them uncomfortable." At that point, I left the store. It was my first visit, and it will definitely be my last. I understand that this is a large retailer and that my review may not make a difference, but customers deserve to be treated with basic courtesy and respect. The employees involved could have handled this situation much more professionally. read more

Recently shopped the store. We were in the store for almost 90 minutes. For the first hour only one person was there and he was behind the counter literally ignoring people (no greeting or acknowledgment) and hiding behind a giant black mask and hair. Finally another person arrived and helped us run sizes to the dressing area. But only when we sought him out. He was not attentive and no greeting. But during checkout it became disturbing because the guy behind the counter was downright creepy. I've attached a picture because a description just doesn't cut it. We couldn't understand a thing he was saying he would not speak up he was mumbling and his mask was so thick and large and his hair was hanging down you could not see his face at all. I think the company can do better with Representatives or tell this guy he needs to lighten up on his look at work. What was really an issue was the fact that you could not understand him or see his face. I'm not trying to pick on anybody for how they choose to look but when you're representing a store and you're behind the counter like this with your eyes hiding behind your hair and your face hiding behind a giant mask it's just not a good look. read more

Another huge opening for Kansas City, and one in the right direction. Yep, I was one of the 58 there at 7:30 a.m., in 26 degree weather, huddled in a blanket, waiting for H and M's opening at 12:00. and, boy can they throw a party! Starbucks passed coffee, endlessly, with crescents throughout the morning. Before the lunch hour, Jack Stacks passed out ribs, pulled pork sliders, turkey sliders and corn muffins + lemonade. All to us freezing souls in the pure name of shopping. Then came the swag, and plenty of it! H and M Tshirts, bags, then gift cards...then the clock turned to noon, and they let us in, by the 20's. I was number 58,and had a 10 dollar gift card. Let's just say, the inside is shiny, new, black and white mostly, with sketches of clothing on the wall. There is spiral staircase going to floor 2. Women's clothing of all sizes is on the entrance floor. It is a bit difficult to write this review, cause I know the store from both NYC, and Chicago. How can I expect anything less from Kansas City? I don't. H and M prices, H and M style, "H and M' I screamed, when I ran through the entrance, at the staff. Sweaters that should cost $50.00, cost $24.95 (and down to 10 for the opening day, yep, I nabbed one of those babies, immediately.) Coats for $29.95, leggings for $7.95. Jeans for under $15.00. It completely compliments Forever 21. The men's selections were as great as the women's selections. Fitting rooms on both floors, and an entrance, on the stairs, as well (It wasn't open for their grand opening.) The inside is kind of decorated the same as Bloomingdales in NYC, with the pictures on the wall. And clothes, everywhere. so gorgeous, and new and ready to bought, by you, or you. They are introducing and "Affordable Versace" this weekend. It's in their window, and on their wall. Surround yourself in the luxury of H and M clothing. The vibe, the upbeat design, and fun. All that is to be expected. Very New York City. As for the staff, they were fantastic. They walked outside several times, getting the crowd hyped up, and it was worth the hype. Mark this store down as one to check Black Friday,and weekly. The prices are better than Macy's, and it's on the Plaza. I think the H&M concept is really interesting. Don't charge a lot. Change merchandise frequently. Try to sell in bulk. It's like a stylish Costco, you know? My sister loves this store but I've never bought anything from here because I'm always worried about the Old Navy effect: looks good now, will fall apart in your hands in a few months. I'm by no means rough on my clothes, but it seems pointless to me to buy clothes tht aren't going to last, even if they are stylish. I'd rather spend more on a classic style that will last longer, than on fashionable clothes made by little brown hands that might fall apart in my bigger white ones. read more

Not one to typically do this but I was disappointed today when I got off work and scrambled to the location to try some things on. The store closes at 7, so I thought I would be fine, but I hear over the walkie talkie (huh???) that dressing rooms will be closing at 6. Perhaps things have changed but I simply do not understand why a store with roughly 6 sales associates cannot have the dressing rooms open until close. The woman who checked me out was just awful. Didn't say hi, didn't smile, didn't say ONE WORD. I like H&M but that experience may have permanently impacted my future shopping there. read more

I walked into the fitting room in the women's clothing section. No employee was there watching over the room and I'm alone when two men walk into the changing room. The fitting stalls don't even have doors, just curtains. The two men proceed to surround me. They're changing one on each side of me. I froze in place, terrified. What are these men doing in the women's changing room?! I get dressed and run out to get a worker to say what's happened and the woman behind the counter smugly tells me that they are "inclusive." I say, "No, that's NOT inclusive. Being a woman alone in a changing room with two strange men is in fact EXCLUDING me because I am terrified and unsafe with them in there as I'm changing and vulnerable!" She calls the manager and the manager verifies that in the 8 years she's worked for this company it's always been "all inclusive changing rooms." I remember shopping at this company 15+ years ago in NYC and I never encountered men in the women's dressing rooms. I was shaking for a full hour after. No one cared that this is traumatic for a woman to experience. This policy is misogynistic and sends the message to women that our safety, never mind feelings, DO NOT MATTER. I WILL NEVER SHOP AT H&M again. I feel totally discriminated against and steam rolled. The employees do not care about women's safety or feelings, and the company is sending the message that it detests its female customers by putting us in harms way and caring NOTHING ABOUT US. If you are a woman and you don't want to be alone and vulnerable with strange men in the dressing room DO NOT SHOP HERE. The smug woman behind the counter cared nothing for my trauma. She literally laughed in my face. This is disgusting treatment towards customers. Complete hatred and disregard of women on every level. HORRENDOUS AND DEHUMANIZING. read more

Not gonna lie, I was scared when H&M announced it was opening in Kansas City. You see, the H&M stores I'd been to in Chicago, New York, etc. had really good men's sections. A wide array of shirts, jeans, hoodies, undies, socks, etc. etc. But... at the H&M stores I'd been to in St. Louis... the men's section was roughly the size of a walk-in closet. So, I was worried that it would be a bust. I stand humbly corrected. I'll disclaimer this review by saying I didn't venture down in the women's area, nor did I go into the kids section. I mean, I'm a guy. I need guy clothes. It looks like opening day jitters have passed -- went on the day after, and it was steady but not OMGJAMPACKEDICAN'TMOVE. The availability was surprisingly better than expected (I half-expected bare racks), and store was pretty well kept. As for the selection... it didn't disappoint. It was a lot more than I expected; I didn't figure it would take up the whole 2nd floor (and it didn't), but I didn't expect there to be THAT much available. I found a good selection of mostly tops; they were lacking a little in bottoms, but that's OK. I described the clothing to a friend as "Banana Republic on an Old Navy budget". And it's true... the clothes are trendy and relatively cheap. Drawback is that sometimes (but not always), they're cheaply made as well -- as long as you know that going in, you'll be fine. I did notice a couple of things -- some of the furry fleecy clothes were decorated in cat hair... and they were out of a couple of specials. (I attribute the former to JoCo housewives with cat-hair covered coats who rubbed up against them.) Will I go back? Absolutely. read more

Ehhh. Just not my bag, at all. I had never been to an H+ M so I was excited. I think I was expecting an Urban Outfitters plus an Express but at Gap prices. I found a Forever 26. I can actually rate the men's section better than the women's. At least I was able to find dress shirts and pajama pants for Mr K. And I guess, since it's Christmas, I should be happy with that. He does a lot of outdoor, physical work, so he needs shirts that are affordable enough that if he rips one or gets one stained it is not a big deal. But I wanted some good looking, trendy yet classic-enough pieces. I found cheap fabrics, cheap prices, just cheap all around. I tried on eight pieces. Most looked like project runway rejects. Some looked like something my eighth grade choir teacher tried to make and then felt so bad we had to wear them in all our preteen awkwardness she couldn't even bring herself to make our parents pay for what the fabric had cost. Yes, that bad. It made me feel at least as shitty as I did when I was shopping for clothes in the eighth grade. I went down the street to Banana and happily paid much, much more for good looking clothes that fit well, were flattering, and made me feel like a million bucks. Lesson learned. read more

I love H&M. I guess a lot of people find their clothes to be cheap quality, and I will grant that some of their products are less well-made than others; let's not throw the baby on to the altar of sacrifice just yet. Most of H&M's clothes are just fine. The first one I ever went to was in Chicago and, ever since, I had wanted one in KCMO. When it finally did come, I was very excited and now I buy clothes almost exclusively at H&M. They have great deals and sales all the time. Plus, their basics are great. I'm not a huge fan of the way they'll have a limited amount of certain stuff and then, once it sells out, that's it forever. That's the equivalent of a band releasing 20 copies of a 7" vinyl and never making it ever available again. I'm also not a huge fan of jeans that will fit on the waist but not the length - or vice-versa. But that's a difficult thing to accomplish when you're a corporation, I guess, because it's not just H&M. All that being said, the point of Yelp is for local reviews, not reviews of a chain store as a whole. So, the Plaza location... I'm reading some people knocking the customer service and availability of staff. I guess I'm in the minority when I say I like to be left alone to shop. I'm fairly certain I'm savvy enough to find things. Rarely do I ever need assistance in buying clothing because, y'know, I'm an adult. Plus, common sense dictates that "what you see on the floor is what they have for sale". Don't get all yelpy because no one was waiting on you with baited breath for you to ask them " if you can check in the back". Hint: there's nothing, and if they do go back to "check", they literally stood in the break room for a drink of water and came right back out to tell you no. read more

Seems like they had a good stuff and were playing lots of CHILL WAVE Music I had never heard before. Ashley thought the dressing rooms were nice and the service was as well! I wish they had a few more seats to sit in, cause me, a dad, and a husband were all standing waiting by the dressing rooms with no place to sit.. Nice clean store though! read more

This is the best H&M I've ever been to - it's in pristine condition - pleasant staff, and not crowded at all! Most H&M stores look like a bomb went off inside and have 5000 people in line.... If you have something negative to say about the store - I highly recommend you go visit one of the h&m stores in New York City or Los Angeles or Chicago (or just about anywhere else!) and then rethink your negative review. I'm glad to have an H&M in town. I'm a fan of this store. I like to shop here when I actually have time to shop. There's a lot of inventory, so much it can be overwhelming. But if you have time to browse, I think you'll be presently surprised. As for the quality, I would say it's better than what you pay. Yes some of the items are cheap, but the items I've purchased have held up pretty well. I havent' had anything "fall apart" in the past two years I've been shopping there. This store has women's, men's and a super cute kids section. I wish they also had maternity like some other locations do. I think it's a great way to get some trendy items without spending a lot. Not as big as some other stores, like Chicago, NY, Seattle; duh. But even a little smaller than the location I visited in the Milwaukee area (yes, I make a point of visiting H&Ms everywhere I go. Before KC's opened, that is!). That said, there is still more ladies items than I usually have time/patience to look through in one shopping trip. A great place for leggings and basics, as well as those fun Versace shoes/line and a fun, flirty new outfit. People tend to complain about the quality, saying that is what you get for the low price, but I have had AMAZING luck with most of my H&M purchases. They last for years. Wasted 30 minutes in the store on the buy 2 get 1 free baby clothes sale only to be told at the register that sale items, though labeled individually for the sale, did not qualify for the sale. I always seem to find good deals here. Last time I ventured to H&M was because of a shorts emergency. My Coffee and khaki shorts got into a fight and I didn't have an extra pair at my hotel. I drove to H&M sure I would find something. I did, I got a nice pair of shorts but they were like $35...I'm used to paying like $15 for shorts at H&M. Wow! I knew there was a reason why my sister loves this place so much! You can buy so much clothes for super cheap! And they're cute and not all made of rayon! I have stopped into the mall of america H&M store before, but it was so crowed that I didn't buy anything. But this time, whew, what a shopping experience! I wasn't overly crowded, but seemed to be doing great business, the wasn't an outrageous line to check out, it was great. This location has everything you need really. A women's section, a men's section, and a kiddie's section. Needless to say, I wasn't the only one who came home with new clothes. I did ask my sister how long these clothes last, and she said that everything that she has ever bought is still intact! So I think that this place is great whether you buy clothes once in a while and want to wear it for a while, or if you keep on buying clothes to with the changing styles because they're cheap, but good quality. read more

I love H&M. It reminds me of an upscale Forever 21. However, don't expect anything you buy here to outlast more than a few wears. I usually only shop here when I need a dress for one night like Valentine's Day or NYE or a cute, affordable outfit for a night out. I love this place because I can find both very trendy and very classic styles and there is something for everybody but, by the third or fourth time I wash it, it's stars to lose it's shape, unravel, ect. Love shopping at H&M! The men's clothing, especially the plain t-shirts are super cheap and comfy. I can get like 6 shirts for under$40...can't beat that. They also have jeans, shorts, sweats, jackets, and a whole lot more. Everything is pretty reasonable so make sure you control yourself! I was very excited for H&M to come to KC after I visited LA and went to their store. Since it has opened here, it's pretty rare that I find something that fits me right. I can usually find shirts that fit me no problem but all the pants fit me really strangely, and I'm an average size 24 year old that weighs 130. Who knows. But when I do find things that fit, I love the price and the quality of the clothes. read more

Although the prices are sometimes over-the-top, I'm a huge fan of the style this company has to offer. There's an awesome selection for guys with everything from tank tops and sweatpants to business casual and business dress. Terrible customer service. Was helped by Dia who was very rude when we tried to use a coupon from the H&M website. Also rude when I didn't have my ID for my credit card. I understand she is doing her job with the credit card but being rude isn't a requirement. Definitely not going to return in the future. read more

Got to the store and wasn't greeted by anyone. Spent about 10 minutes walking around picking things out at which point I stepped over to the fitting room. A short brunette rudely informed me that the fitting rooms were closed. I assumed she was joking with her coworker and laughed it off only to realize she was serious. The clothes I picked out couldn't be tried on because the music had stopped 30 seconds before. Once she left I kindly asked the fitting room attendant if I could quickly try on my 4 items and she said yes. (Only positive part of my experience). After trying things on I decided to buy a couple of things. Once getting to the register I was not greeted happily and I was told that the store was closed again by Vanessa, when talking about how that was too bad, she said "well some people like to get a break when they work a full work week" we replied that we were in the service industry and this was our only day off and she was quiet after that. We weren't thanked or anything and were sent on our way, worst experience at a store I've ever had. read more
