This year there was an issue with my clean car tax credit due the JH's software. I ended up getting it back directly from Carvana 2 weeks later. Due to this the IRS still hasn't released the remainder of my $7800 return. My coworker went to H&R Block and was able to get her 4k clean car credit filed electronically and get her full return back in less than 10 days. JH said I had to file by snail mail. I guess I k ow where I'm going next year, anywhere but this Jackson Hewitt location.

I made it known that I was not familiar with taxes and needed guidance, but my return was delayed until very late with little to no updates. The numbers I was originally told did not match the final results "over 1000$ off" After having another professional review everything, my return was significantly different than what I was told to expect. That raised serious concerns about accuracy. There were also missed opportunities and lack of guidance regarding tax benefits and credits that could have applied to my situation, including items related to overtime and recent tax law changes. None of this was properly explained to me. Another major issue was being told that an extension may have been filed. I never provided authorization or a signature for that, and since I potentially owe taxes, that creates a serious problem. This should never happen without clear consent. Overall, the experience felt rushed at the end, inconsistent, and poorly communicated. I had to seek another professional to verify everything, which I should not have had to do. I recommend others proceed with caution and make sure everything is clearly explained and documented before moving forward.

McSwain & Company had a fairly good star rating, so I decided to meet with one of their CPA's. My initial meeting with David was at most 10 minutes. Granted he did ask me to provide all documentation for our initial meeting and I had forgot 1 or 2 pieces of documentation needed to file my tax return, so I can see how maybe he could have been a bit frustrated. I proceeded to tell him that I would like to be a new client, and would need help seeking future advice for life insurance etc in the future. While he may have been great at getting all my documentation filed for my taxes this year, he is not a very friendly CPA. I was told that my taxes had been filed, and that I needed to sign forms and make my payment even though I had already made my payment of $250, and returned the signed forms as requested. While on the phone with him, he said that I could come and pick up my return anytime. The following day my wife drives up to their office to pick up our return and was greeted with a very unfriendly secretary (I also had the same experience on my first/second day I had visited as well), being told that there is no check available for us. David should work on his people skills. He told me that I misunderstood vs telling me that he could have been unclear with his statements. Instead of taking the responsibility he pushed the blame on me. This years tax returns are done, and next year McSwain & Company will NOT receive my business. Thanks for opening your doors to a new Client, but unfortunately your representatives people skills (soft skills) are not where they need to be. This was the worst experience I have had yet in my 30 years of filing taxes. While it may have been quick, it was not worth the blame I received.
