H&R Block - Tax Services Near Me - Redondo Beach, California

The secretary was incredibly rude to everyone, the person behind me had a 6:30 appointment with the same person I met with (I had a 6pm) and upon her arrival told her they moved it to 7pm, for literally no reason other than their own incompetence on scheduling appointments accordingly. Secretary offered zero apologies and when the lady said it was a bit inconvenient for her she replied with "well do you want to reschedule?" Unreal unprofessionalism on her part. The website stated $89 plus state fees, so I figured I'd maybe pay double that (~$180) and know that my return isn't out of the ordinary, w2, a couple of stocks and a student loan payment. I sent my documents a week before hand in order to streamline the process and upon my arrival discovered they hadn't even looked at them. I proceeded to sit there for 40 minutes to literally watch the employee print out the documents and enter them manually one by one (you can literally upload them and the system fills out +90% on its own) and did NOTHING more than the average Joe doing their own taxes. I came here because I figured they could help me maximize my refund but boy was I wrong. At the end she said my fees owed to H&R were $390!!!!! It absolutely blew my mind, I told her there's no way that's correct. One of the fees was $180 for simply submitting a student loan form which is the simplest form of them all, it's literally two line items to enter (total paid for the year and interest paid) I said I've never seen that fee before in all the years I've had my loan and have done my taxes on my own, which she replied that I "haven't been paying attention then" which was incredibly insulting at this point. I'm an Electrical Engineer, it's literally my job to pay attention to detail. At this point I was fed up and knew I wasn't obligated to pay this outrageous fee. I said I'd get a second opinion and touch base after. When I left the secretary didn't say a word to me which wasn't surprising based on her previous interactions with people. This is the first time I've ever left a review on any establishment because I feel it necessary to warn people to stay far away from this place. read more

Do yourself a favor and avoid IKE at this H&R Block as he is not a good representative of H&R Block, I needed an envelope for IRS and Franchise Tax Board to send payment and he cannot provide that to me. I advised if he didn't I would not use him again. I will update later with his last name. read more

New to the LA area from TX. I needed to find someone with knowledge of the laws in different states. Of course, I did my research and decided to give this location a chance. Parking at this location was ok but I was able to find a space in front of the building. When I arrived for my appointment the front desk receptionist was friendly. My wait was less than five minutes. After waiting I was greeted by the person who was doing my taxes Ike Karamehmwtoglu. He was amazing and funny. He was knowledgeable and detailed about everything and took his time. I was done within an hour. If you're looking for a good Tax Analyst please stop at the location to see Ike. When I contacted the manager, Pat Schuster, she refused to honor their advertised Maximum Refund Guarantee. The District Manager, Manuel, also gave me the run-around for months. First, even though we had an appointment, the staff INSISTED it was a drop off appointment. Finally met with someone and they gave us an estimate of "between $500 and $1,000". No thank you. Hello there! How're you? Hope you're doing great :) So... My wife is a CPA and she had done both our Federal and CA taxes. However both felt it'd be good to get a professional opinion, which is when I walked into H&R Block. And met with Peter. Peter was as good as they come. For starters, he was very patient, listened to our situation completely, interrupting for just the right questions. Once I was done and bemoaned for the nth time how I was being taxed a lot, Peter went over my documents with a fine toothed comb. Next he reviewed the forms my wife had filled. He ran the numbers quickly and after a few minutes confirmed the obvious. We owed money to Uncle Sam! :( Now, this isn't a story with a happy ending, so why am I writing a Yelp review? Well... don't shoot the messenger. Especially when he consummately reviewed our work, redid it again to ensure we had not missed anything and then confirmed everything was right :) We came to H&R Block for their expertise and we got just that. My wife is not a professional tax consultant, hence we needed the experts to affirm our numbers were right. Peter offered explanation at every step on each figure and also some tips on what we could do to cushion the blow next year. I felt reassured by Peter's grasp of the subject, never once did he keep asking others for help or questions. He had the tax books on his fingertips and was able to get to the right sections in a jiffy. I spent about 30 minutes in there and never once did I feel I was in there for an eternity. H&R Block, thank you for your professionalism and service. Peter, I wish you the very best. "Don't get your taxes done. I used a tax preparation service for the first time this year and came to this location on the recommendation of a neighbor. I had a great experience - the tax advisor, Jennifer, who was assigned to me was very knowledgeable, friends and easy to work with. She even took the time to look back at my three previous years' returns and amended two of them to be more favorable for me. The receptionist, Lauren, was also very helpful and friendly. This rating is reflective of H&R Block customer service as a whole. We used this location twice since we moved to the area and both times there have been issues with our taxes. We actually found and self reported an issue with our taxes from last year where the rep did not include one of our W2's. We had gotten the peace of mind insurance in case there was an issue with our return and thought that this would cover the multi-thousand dollar mistake. No, because we gave approval to submit the claim we are responsible, not the tax professional who people trust to file their taxes correctly. Because the original W2, that was and is still with our tax documentation, wasn't stapled into the stack that was handled by the rep, we cannot prove we provided them with the document. I do not recommend H&R Block for anyone and urge anyone curious about the service to attempt using a different application or file yourself. The peace of mind claim is a joke and instead of providing peace of mind, it has done nothing but cause our family undue stress. read more
