This place SUCKS. Waited about 10 minutes before anyone even noticed that me and a few people were waiting in line. Finally in comes 3 people Lolly-gagging as the enter the office. The front desk lady doesn't even look for the person who was here first and caters to the customer that came in last. There's only two things certain in life: death and taxes. And much as I'd like to postpone both as much as I can, I know that the taxman cometh every April 15th. So, as soon as I get my W-2 and my 1099, I go to get my taxes done as soon as possible just to get it out of the way. One of my best friends had done my taxes for the past decade, but her company had raised their rates, so last year another of my friends helped me with mine through H&R Block's online system. Even though I have a simple W-2 with no withholdings, I'm still afraid I would screw up my return if I did it solo online... so yesterday I made an appointment with the folks at one of H&R Block's physical locations. (The current promo about a thousand customers each day getting $1000 also helped me with my decision.) Imagine my surprise when I showed up to the Mira Mesa Mall location - only to find out that I was supposed to go to the other location near Best Buy! However, the friendly receptionist was able to squeeze me in, so I'm grateful for that. Ed Anderson, the gentleman who did my taxes in the office, was nice enough, but I had to point out several inaccuracies when he was putting in my address and my bank account information. It was all I could do to restrain myself from punching in the numbers myself, but once everything was smoothed out, it was ok. $96 for the service, but at least I'm getting some cash back! Still, maybe next year I'll try filing online, especially after seeing how easy it was when Ed did it on his computer. read more

Rude!!!! Rude!!! Rude!!!!! The person who was originally filing our taxes quit and no one bothered to call us. I called to give update on my w2 form and when it would be possible to go in again. The female was rude on the phone and said they didn't have time to help me today.... ( Mind you, I was calling to set appointment up) I could pick up my paperwork if I wanted. My husband and I go to this location to pick up and the lady says they did call, when I tell her no we didn't receive a call... she says " well my notes tell me differently" we gather our paperwork and walk out as she mumbles " you can't expect me to file your paperwork without all your papers needed) ummm sorry, your employer said she would call us when she was available. Will definitely call upper management/ human resource. read more

Scheduled an appointment at 9am and even received a text reminding me of said appointment only to walk in the office and have them tell me that I wasn't scheduled for an appointment and that they couldn't help me. This happened to me about 3 weeks ago as well. I was also told I'd be charged $200+ for a simple tax return. I only had a question on how to submit a certain form online and the employee told me they weren't aware of how the online system worked. I guess I'll go to Turbo Tax. read more

Way too expensive. Didn't even get back to me like they said. Tried to charge me $450 and had the guts to ask if I want to add $55 for ID protect and some other service that I imagine should be included in a $450 service. Did TurboTax for $160 and return was even better. Never again H&R. The guy Ned we had an appointment with was nice, could have gotten back to us but still a nice guy. so this review only reflects on H&R Block itself. read more

While my tax preparer was very nice and helpful, he filed one little form and spent a total of 45 minutes with us and HR Block charged us almost $400. I cannot even believe the number. Not only that, but there was absolutely no discussion of pricing prior to or during our encounter. I was gobsmacked at the end with the bill. I would highly recommend doing it on your own with TurboTax online. That's what I usually do and I pay about $30! I will be going back to TurboTax next year. I definitely regret coming to HR Block. read more

Went there with an appointment, but nobody helped me out. Just waited there for 50 mins and walked out after that. Interestingly, saw a guy who just walked in without an appointment being served right away! Very unprofessional! I would like to applaud Zoila Souza, at the Mira Mesa Branch. Zoila was very professional, polite, thorough, patient, caring, and had a great sense of humor. When she was able to get me back more money, she would give me "Hi Fives"! This made me feel comfortable, and it became quite amusing for us as we joked and laughed, using that gesture. So not only did my taxes get done perfectly, but I feel that I left there gaining a friend. "A two for one isn't bad"! Thank you H&R Block, for hiring such a great and awesome Tax Return Preparer. Tax people with basic knowledge. She even typed my social wrong and was only aware after I advised her of the error. Then she kept insisting that I sign off on documents that she didn't allow me to read. When I asked to read the documents first, she stated that I just needed to sign it and can read it at the end. When I was adamant on reading the documents first, she became annoyed-as if I had some obscene request. I got up and left. This has taught me to stick with my CPA instead of choosing convenience over quality. read more

Our tax professional at the Mira Mesa Mall H&R Block office takes our complicated tax history and makes it look easy to file. The front desk is managed by a very capable woman with a good sense of humor and a wide knowledge base. We do not dread having our taxes done here, we do our part at home organizing our data, and the outcome is very satisfactory. There is a high level of professionalism and courtesy. After 30 years, we wouldn't think of going anywhere else (we started with H&R Block in the Sears store at UTC in 1982). Plus, this office is conviniently located a mile from our house, which helps if I have forgotten an important document! read more

My husband is deployed and I needed help with extending our taxes until he got home. I scheduled an appointment for 4pm. I will start by saying the receptionist was very nice and did her job. Once it was 4:20pm, I asked if she had an idea on when I would be able to be helped. When she went to check, I got to hear the guy I had an appointment with yell at her to give me to someone else. She then went around to each of the other associates and they all said no and the last guy even suggested that I should have made an appointment. I did. So I understand that no one wanted to waste their time on an extension. But if they bothered to care about my needs they would understand that I wanted to make an appointment to file taxes with them once my service member came home. So in your search to find help with taxes, please avoid this office. Appointments have no precedence and you could end up waiting 20+ minutes after your scheduled appointment to find that they just don't feel like helping you right now and would rather you just go away. read more

Terrible customer service starting with the receptionist showing up with a very upset look on her face like she hated being there ,not greeting customers or explaining "Your tax preparer should be with you soon she's running a little late" or after paying the service fee a "Thank You have a nice day"some people don't appreciate having a job,she definitely needs to change careers . read more

i will never use or recommend h and r block to anyone! my original tax lady could not get me in before vacation this year so i figured my taxes were basic h and r block could do this. it was a mess from start to finish. no one would answer the phone to make an appointment and it transferred to the service center. customer service informed me that i would get an email with documents i would need. no email was ever sent to me. went in for my 11 o clock appointment to sit there for a half an hr to find out they made the appointment for the wrong day. they ended up getting me in rushed me thru it. it was fairly basic and they charged me 350 dollars! he said he had to do several different forms so it was not the advertised amount and told me my taxes were difficult! guess they were so hard to do it only took 20 minutes? i will be bringing the end result to my original tax lady when i return from vacation. moral of the story do not cheat on your trusty tax lady. read more
