After a nightmare accounting experience last year in Columbia City, I was really anxious about yet another Tax person getting it wrong, or being unreliable. DO NOT GO TO THIS, OR ANY, H&R Seattle REGIONAL OFFICES. I will describe my experience briefly below. - I submitted all my tax documents in mid-March and had a virtual appointment with my professional early April - I reached out several times to follow up virtually and via phone and receive no response back - The day before taxes are due, I call and am told my professional is out of office but they will help me with my extension if it is not ready tomorrow and am promised a call back (never received) -I call back the next day (tax day) and am told I'll receive a call back. Around 3 pm PT I get a call saying my tax pro had been let go, my tax return was still pending, and that I was estimated to owe a ton in taxes to the government which they advised I pay end of day to avoid penalties. They tell me to call the Northgate office to resolve my taxes after I file the extension. - I call the office the next week and reach the regional manager, Noah. Noah denies that I supposed to be calling his office until I insist several times those were the instructions I was given; he then tells me they have given my taxes to a third party and gives me a phone number to contact her to have them finished. I tell him I will call the H&R block office every day until I have them filed, and he assures me it will be useless because my taxes are now sitting with this third party individual. - I call this phone number and get no answer. I receive a call back later from a stranger saying the phone number no longer belongs to the tax accountant and to please stop calling this phone. To clarify, that means that Noah and H&R block gave my detailed tax information, including my SSN and income information, to an individual that they themselves are unable to locate or contact. This is an extremely unsafe use of personal information and I am extremely concerned about the privacy practices at the Northgate office in particular. - When I call back, Noah rematches me with a tax pro in the office and tells me I need to come into the office to complete my taxes. I do so and complete most of my tax return with only my NY state tax return left, which required a tax pro licensed in NY, so I am forced to come back - When I come back, I meet with Joel, who greets me by saying "How the fuck am I supposed to help you?". The rest of the conversation continues along that line, with Joel swearing throughout the conversation and gleefully telling me that I wasted my time by coming in and that he would not be able to help me at all. To top it off, Joel also gave me incorrect tax guidance that would have cost me an additional large sum despite this being a return for a state in which he is licensed - I call H&R Block corporate at this point to complain and to ensure that Joel does not have access to my private information as I was genuinely concerned for my safety given his behavior in the office. Corporate taxes my complaint seriously and tells me they will report it to leadership. - Noah calls me, which I miss, and asks me to call him back. I call back and am unable to reach him. I call back multiple times over the next week and he is never in the office. - Eventually I reach him, and he apologizes for the behavior of his employee and offices in general and tells me he has matched me with a new tax pro licensed in NY. I receive their contact information and am told to reach out. - I reach out to this new tax pro and reach her office, where I am told that she is out for the rest of the season and will be returning in October. - I have been calling Noah's office for about 3 weeks, leaving messages and requesting call backs. When I ask employees when he will be back so I can call during that time, they say they have no idea. It is clear the customers, or at least communication with those customers, is not a priority for Noah. - I have reached out to H&R Block corporate once again as I am not confident that Noah or anyone under Noah's jurisdiction will be able to help me resolve my issues. Terrible experience. Was promised I'd be seen, but yet when he said he'd finally be ready to help me, Joel takes some other clients that were for someone else. Rude and unprofessional way to conduct business. I understand I was a walk but you told me you had me when I left work and waisted a couple hours here. When telling the front desk how rude it is for Joel to not even acknowledge the fact that he just took some other people over me, she was no help and even more useless than Joel. Went in to have my taxes done because the 800 number directed me to do so. I get to this place of business and I'm told they are booked. I said why would they direct me here if they were booked. I was told corporate overwhelms them. So I left and called the 800 number again and it directed me back so I went back in and told the receptionist I was directed back again. An older man came running from the back cussing and acting like he was going to attack me. His name was Brian and it was as if he had something wrong with him. The string of curse words were angrily spit out and I'm not sure if it's because I'm a minority or if he truly has issues. This is not acceptable and borderline verbal assault. The ladies working were making excuses for him saying he was cursing at corporate but he was glaring at me with hate and anger I was surprised by this and I hope that this doesn't happen to anyone else. If this is a normal practice at this H & R location then there truly is an issue. So then I get the same canned message on each platform that I complained on and they say call them well I already did and no one called me back. read more

When talking to a tax preparation professional, one does not want to hear that they want to "axe" you a few questions. A sorry group of confused individuals who should not be allowed anywhere near tax documents. I wish I could give them zero stars. read more

Hmm... I see others have a bad experience here, however I did not. I got Joel K. and he was very knowledgeable and very easy to work with. He pointed out a few things that would have likely triggered an audit and we quickly remedied that. Very friendly and helpful. I met with Gail who helped me with a notice I got from the IRS about unreported income from a previous tax year. Even though I didn't do my taxes with them, they were happy to help me out with a free consultation. I left knowing exactly how to respond to the notice and couldn't believe I didn't have to pay a cent. read more

Unprofessional office, really disappointing. Plan on wasting a lot of time, while they decide if they want to provide service to you. I've stayed with H&R Block because of the stellar service provided by the professionals I've dealt with for more than 10 years at various locations around the country. New to the Seattle area, I contacted Northgate H&R Block office. Everything they needed was spoon -fed to them, input on a spreadsheet. All they had to do was open up the spreadsheet, copy the info to their system and file the return. However, after two appointments over two days, with two different clerks, and 2.5 hours NOTHING was done with my return . The first appointment was completely blown off by William "Pat" Miller who told me after making me wait more than 30 minutes past our appointment, he didn't have time to deal with my return today! My impression of him was that he had long since retired mentally, and was just going through the motions in the office. The second appointment was scheduled to last 1.5 hours the next day with Stephen Fickenscher. 60 minutes into that appointment Stephen told me he hadn't started yet because he was busy answering phone calls and taking care of administrative things. After 90 minutes he had only managed to add a W-2 to my return. Unbelievable! Suffice to say I quickly found another provider to handle my tax return this year. read more

I've been here three times and I've had mixed experiences. The first time, I did a complex stock return (stocks, condo, etc) and I got a nice return (thanks to deducting home loan interest). However, the prices seem to be going up. My last return was significantly higher. I only had one extra form this year. Before you commit to service with them, find out how many forms you'll need and how much for each. Also, you can get profiles of the accountants on the H&R website to find out more about the people working in a specific branch. Of course, you never know until you get there. If you don't like the feel of the place or your interaction with someone, don't commit. Try a different location or service. read more

A few months ago I was contacted by a market research team. They wanted to pay me $150 to take my taxes 45 minutes away to the this H&R Block and have them take a second look at them. It was a ways to drive but sure, why not? I got there at my scheduled time and was advised I'd need to wait a bit because the individuals at the company doing the market research were behind. No problem. My kids were being good, I was making easy money. I saw a woman who stated it was her first day. Very nice, quick, helpful. My taxes are super easy and sure enough, they were done right upon their "second look". I was advised the check would arrive in 4-6 weeks. Well, it sure didn't. It's been almost 3 months. I feel embarrassed that for one, I fell for this scam. For two, that H&R was a part of it. I actually considered taking my yearly taxes to them because I had no issues but I would never now. read more

Sunil helped me last year with my taxes and I was shocked to find out this year that both my roommate and friend of mine use him. He is obviously very knowledgable and personable, as well as professional. I admit I was a little cranky as I had only slept 2 hours the night before and, come on, who wants to deal with taxes!!? Sunil was patient and kind with me, and after our grueling session I left with a huge smile plastered on my face. Ask for Sunil, he is the best. I have had some good tax preparers here, but the good ones seem to move on after a year or two. I have complicated tax returns and ask for someone experienced. If your favorite has left & you get whoever else is available, my luck has been I get the old foul tempered one who ought to have retired 15 years ago. The woman I went to did nothing but gripe at me for every last detail. Even the fact that I had kept my tax envelopes sealed for the tax prep and they needed to be opened! And that it was close to April 15. "Waiting til the last minute?" she snapped at me. Well, this was the 2nd return I did, this one for a parent who had died & I have to do the estate. They are open on this day, she is working, why is she complaining that I'm a client? On top of that, I come to find that she did the tax prep incorrectly and now the IRS wants additional documentation for estate tax statement that was done. I have gone to this location for years but this is it. To be charged that much $, be treated with rudeness & snottiness, and then to find out she did it wrong - that's it. I wanted to walk out after 10 minutes of her but I needed to get it done. read more
