I'm not satisfied with their service. When we picked out our floors and were recommended to go here, we were happy at first. But after about 6 months the floors started having issues and falling apart. A year since installed by a licensed contractor I trust, the floors are garbage. We have contacted them multiple times and we're told a rep would come look at them for the brand and nothing. This has been ongoing for months and we are about to have to replace all of them so we won't buy from them this time. My old house had Ikea laminate that was better and lasted longer. Just a shame to spend money on floors that didn't last even a year and to have no help from where we bought them. Expensive lesson learned, we will go elsewhere. Sadly maybe if I post a bad review they will call and email my husband back. read more

H&W has made reflooring my new house a breeze. Marvin was very helpful in explaining my options. He explained the differences between different brands of laminates and vinyl, and he offered to measure each room individually to help me make a decision on how much space I would like to refloor vs my budget. He also encouraged me to look at and choose a few samples from the store to bring to the house during measurement -- that made it easy to choose my new laminate. The quotes was very detailed to make easy decision, and he could arrange for the work at short notice. Despite the work starting late (Jeremy, the craftsman, fell sick on the first day), the work was done on time and well. H&W offered steeply competitive price compared to a few other stores I checked (40% off???). Whether this is the result of Marvin's precise job in making the quote, or else, H&W has made it very easy to choose their service. Job quality is very good but not perfect, but this was part of the deal. Marvin explained before the deal that he does not provide carpentry detailing (on the trims after the work) and only provide basic clean up. These were fine by me, but if you prefer to get the house sparkling clean, I would suggest getting a professional cleaner after the floor job. Repainting the trims can be a weekend project. Overall I am very satisfied. 4/5 because communication can still be improved. People in the store are extremely helpful but more often than not we have to talk to Marvin for details. Unfortunately, sometimes it's hard to reach him. Also, as per when I wrote this, they are still trying to fix problems with emails through their website. So, just call them. We wanted to support local businesses and went with this provider to redo our carpeting in our lower-level of our split-entry mid-70's home. The selection of carpet (high-durability and best foam pad available) seemed easy enough and proceeded without incident. At the time, I was happy with the sales and what seemed to be good guidance to help our selection. A contractor showed up and told us that we needed to rebuild our stairs because they would not "work" with the carpet (although we had replaced the carpet already before with no issues). We did this, at an expense of $1000 with another contractor and moved forward with the install. I'm not a prude but the contractor that showed up was a bit vulgar and was not professional to the level I expected at all. The carpeting in the two rooms looked nice but the stairs have fallen apart in short-order. They have come and stretched the carpet (which tore it) and did not do a job that was acceptable. I decided not to call in again and go through any more of a hassle to get this fixed correctly but will just avoid this business in the future. The contractor said this was "not the right carpet" while installing, and it appears not the correct pad for the stairs - which is bulging and not being held in-place by the carpet strips. I assumed that somebody would figure this out before the install to ensure the correct product is selected and will work for the given application. I don't lay carpet, I don't play a carpet-layer on TV, but I expect between a company that hires contractors and sells the stuff, for them to know what they are doing. I've let this go for a while and decided that my first "negative" review ever is warranted as I did not get what I paid for, and this was a hassle. After failed-attempts to fix it, I gave up. Lesson learned. While I will continue to support local businesses where possible, this outfit lost my future business. read more

We wanted to buy locally and had a friend with a good experience from H&W. The staff seemed knowlegable and helpfull. We selected a high end flooring. When the comitted date arrived they said they had to delay the install because the "factory" had forgot to ship their order and the product had not shipped. We went along. When the date arrived they wanted to come two days, requiring me to take two vacation days so they "would have time to remove old carpet". I said that was not going to work very well. I said it was important to have install before Thanksgiving and if it would help I will pull the carpet, tack, and staples for them to meet the date. They agreed. When the day arrived I had all the carpet pulled and furniture moved to make my house nearly unlivable. They called me at 9:30 to say the material had not arrived and their installer was ill. When I ask for another installer they said everyone was finishing up other projects. After living in a disaster mess for a week they finally showed up to install. The installer was done in 4 hours and left without saying anything. The owner, knowing I did not trust him to do a compentent job, never called but charged my card for the remainder of the contract. The transitions were clearly not part of the quality of the flooring I purchased and the tape that covered the soft pressboard chiped within one day - in several places. I called and sent them pictures of the obviously poor workmanship and product. He then blew me off by saying that should not have happened. He has refused to fix the problem and we are unsatisfied. This type of company is the reason big box stores flourish in our community. The boss simply does not care to do a compentent job and takes a dim view of customers. read more

The "Family Owned" is generally over-hyped in advertisements. H&W is the reason I want to deal with a family owned store. H&W has three generations working, and they all do a great job. No waiting for my salesman to be in, everyone just gets questions answered, and the job done. I particularly appreciated the carpet education, it made buying decisions easier, and more confident. I will defiantly be doing business with H&W in the future! read more

We needed to replace a family room, bedroom and floating stairs. Marvin was wonderful when he came out to measure and gave us an estimate before he left. The install day came and so did the snow! The guys had no place to unload the carpet so they drove back to the shop to do precuts! They did a wonderful job with the install and I know those floating stairs were difficult too. Marvin worked it all out to get it done on the date they promised!!!! read more

We had carpet installed when my son was still crawling, and the people these guys sent left many little nails on the floor which my little guy could have easily swallowed. When we called H & W to make them aware we were blown off. The safety of my family clearly was not a priority to this company. read more

I hired H&W to install carpet in several rooms. It cost a more than discount carpet stores, but I liked that they were locally owned and the sales people seemed friendly enough. However, I had numerous problems with the installation including damage to my walls, padding not being installed in one room (which I was still charged for), and debris being left under the carpet in spots. When I brought the issues to the attention of the owner, Marvin, he was quite unsympathetic and offered no sort of compensation. As soon as I paid the balance of the bill, he had little interest in whether I was actually satisfied. Perhaps if everything goes smoothly with a job, H&W would be fine, but if anything gets messed up, good luck getting them to fix it. I would recommend looking elsewhere for flooring work. read more

We are currently in the process of trying to get a house ready to sale and time is getting limited. We called H & W to get a quote. Their quote was completely reasonable and we were able to get install scheduled very quickly. Carpet, laminate, and vinyl flooring were all installed according to schedule and to perfection!!!! Over the years we'd used three different carpet companies to update our homes but since finding H&W we won't go to anyone else, they are amazing. The carpets and vinyl we've had put in were all quickly and professionally done by their own people (no subcontracting!) - their own family in fact, and the cleanup was tidy. It is a real-deal local, family owned business and everyone we've interacted with has been friendly, competent and punctual. The communication was honest, quick and clear and their pricing was very fair and competitive with others on the market. They are a small company so they sometimes have to order in flooring (my carpet had to come from Georgia) but they were fabulous about keeping me up to date on where it was and when it would arrive and flexible about scheduling when it did. I want to warn those, I don't shell out 5s often for anything, but I wanted to let you know that H&W went above and beyond. I needed wood vinyl and had no idea what I wanted or what I was looking for but Amanda helped me and my wife out tremendously. She told us about the different companies and pricing and availability, gave us huge samples to take home and had no problem at all answering a million questions multiple days in a row. We checked out Lowe's but price wise H&W beat them, plus they're a locally family owned company so it made it even better. If you're looking for fantastic customer service, top notch pricing, and want to support local businesses that work hard to assist those in the community, check them out. Oh, and bring your kids with you, they have a play area. I left my 5 year old there while shopping (don't worry you can still hear/see them wherever in the store you are). read more
