HEB is full of items you can't find at other stores. The produce section has a lot to choose from. Many things you don't find at other stores. When I am looking for a specialty food item, I turn to HEB and if they don't have it then I probably don't need it. The store always seems clean and the isles are hardly blocked unless they are restocking. I usually try to look and see if there are any carts left before I leave the parking lot because many times the place where the carts go can be empty and you would need to get one from the parking lot. Some prices seem higher than other store but you are getting better quality. If HEB doesn't have it then you don't need it. read more

As good as it gets as far as depth of selection and pricing. When my daughter visits from New England she is always blown away by the selection and pricing. I have to ride an electric cart now and they always have plenty available with a full charge. Meat specials and in store coupons always save more money if you watch while you shop. Great selection of Mexican products if you are into Mexican food as I am. A little crowded at times but that means everything is fresh I guess. read more

I thought I would do a little comparison shopping, so I hit up HEB on a Monday evening. Big mistake. There were NO carts. At all. I had to walk back and forth by the checkout lanes so I could ask somebody if they were done using theirs. After obtaining one, I had to try to make my way through a ton of people in each aisle. I know this isn't the stores fault; it would just be nice if people were aware of other people when they are shopping. I had heard a lot of great things about their prices, but I wasn't impressed. I would have saved a bit more elsewhere. I stood in line for awhile, although they did have almost all of the stands open. When it was my turn, the cashier, nor the courtesy clerk acknowledged me in any way. I've worked in many customer service jobs, and it is not hard to say hello or another simple greeting. The kicker was the checker in the next stand with no customers (he had a ten items or less lane). He thought it would be professional to have a conversation with the checker who was ringing me up and he also didn't greet me. If I wanted crappy service and idiotic people, I would have just gone to WalMart and saved a few bucks. read more

Love shopping at HEB. Very comfortable place. Can always find what I need. Associates that work there are usually friendly and courteous, willing to help. So you ask why I gave only 4 stars. They need a serious attention to the front lines. Every open line had 5 or more people waiting to checkout. Fortunately we had less then 15 items so was able to get through quickly. The service center had at least 15 people waiting in line. Again, still love them. The front area is an easy fix. Open more lanes or hire more cashiers. read more

Not from around here but will be soon...I've already shopped at a couple of grocery stores here in town but HEB definitely has my buisness from now on. Great prices..fresh food..Lots of variety..haven't met a rude person yet. I found the HEB ap on my phone...check it out! The prices of each item..not just ad items..and the aisle they can be found on and lots of other great info about each product can be found on the ap...u can also add products to a super convienent shopping list that sorts it by aisle and has the ability for u to cross off things as u go.. the digital coupons are pretty cool too...this ap helps a lot!..the cashier showed me how to use the digital coupons..way easy! There are also really good deals and coupons all over the store. This store offers everything! Biggest meat section I've ever seen with a fresh fish deli type thing off to the side...a bakery..a deli...a floral dept...a pharmacy and a bank...I'm probably missing something...I'm so glad to have found a great alternative for 95% of walmart. Being a mom of two young children I most definitely recommending H-E-B for its convienent affordable buisness. read more

HEB.... what can i say about HEB... The samples are amazing and manned by wonderfully courteous vendors, the lime and spicy homemade tortilla chips are to KILL FOR. Their hummus has that special "je ne sais quoi". What about the fact that they make their own fresh tortillas i have no trouble gulping down without heating them up? Their fruits and veggies selection and prices? Amazingly great. Their fish and meat fresh selection borderlines local fisheries and meat stores. The frozen meat/fish section is their forte. What about their selection of chorizo (i could have chorizo y papas for breakfast lunch and dinner). All this covers just 1/3 of this location. They constantly run sales and coupons from magazines are always honored (though they frown on extreme couponers and limit their use responsibly). I wish there were an HEB in each city of the world... it would help me miss it less than i actually do now that i moved away. read more

I have been a customer of the Abilene HEB since it opened nearly 30 years ago. For a long time it was an excellent grocery store. Recently they decided to make it more like Walmart by completely remodeling the store and making it so everything is difficult to find. Worse than anything, however, is the awful LOUD noise and yelling that constantly plays in the background. One cannot even hear him-herself think. The two bright spots in the store are the pharmacy and the bank. Otherwise, it is a pain in the EARS to shop there. read more

Good place to get groceries especially if you need a specialty item that isn't going to be carried at Walmart or Albertson's. the only thing I don't like is the fishy smell in the meat department. I realise that fish is going to smell like fish but it is terrible. I still enjoy shopping here despite that because they have good prices and a lot of products are organic and locally grown. I love this grocery store! It has so much more variety than united or wal-mart. Always good samples, fresh food and great prices!

Huge selection and cheap prices. I left here with a cart full of food for under $175. The store is clean and check-out is quick.

Sackers- the people who are supposed to sack your groceries as the checker rings them up and also take them to the car for you. HEB does not recognize this definition nor do they employee enough to handle how busy they are. If I wanted to help bag my own groceries, put them in the cart, and push them to my car I would go to Walmart. United and Albertsons can do it why not HEB???? Probably won't go back. read more

Staff is always super nice. Everything is neat and is tasty and perfect. Customers here are crazy though. The customers tend to mistreat employees by being way too rude. I find everything i need and i am out in a fast way. So i love HEB read more

I've always loved HEB in Abilene. A year or two ago, I would have given them 5 stars. Overall, they still have the best prices and selection. BUT that said, it seems lately, they are less in-store customer oriented. Seems like maintaining the store and stocking the merchandise has become less of a priority since they've focused so much on curbside and home delivery. I've often had to climb shelves to try to access merchandise because they don't stock or front the shelves nearly as well as they used to. If you wanna park and have them shop for you, it's fine because the customer who does NOT walk in the store gets the primary spots, even though it has made parking for in-store customers a LOT more difficult and inconvenient. Seems like the curbside or online shopper parking spaces could have been at the side of the building or further out so that the front spaces are reserved for people actually shopping (and usually spending more money.) Also, their priorities in selection during the freezer/cooler remodeling doesn't make sense. They made darn sure they got all their beer back in first. And there's plenty of frozen pizza, by golly, but there's not much of anything else for people that are shopping for real groceries. I really love HEB products, selection, and prices, but honestly, it's become less frustrating to go to United or the Neighborhood Walmart instead. HEB, you can do better than this. All the new features shouldn't lessen the good in-store customer service you've had in the past. read more

I really have to say this was one of the worst experiences I have ever had at an HEB. This past weekend my family and I traveled from San Antonio, Austin, Round Rock and Proctor Texas to Abilene. We were celebrating the 50th wedding anniversary of family members. The plan was simple. We would join the family at a large pot luck lunch. My daughters, son and I discussed our options. Since we were coming from various distances we thought trays from HEB would be perfect. Additionally, my youngest daughter volunteered to make an 50th Anniversary bouquet, wrist corsages and a single boutonniere for her aunt and uncle whose anniversary we were celebrating. Easy right? WRONG! We ordered three trays from the store in Abilene AT 345 Barrow Street. We hoped to pick up flowers from a florist in town but when we got there their prices were exorbitant, six dollars per stem. Although we knew the selection would be limited we decided to pick up flowers from HEB. Since this was the same HEB we were having make the trays it seemed a no brainer. We went to the flower section around 10:00 am on April 9th. As we thought the selection was limited but the flowers were fresh. All told we spent over seventy ($70) dollars on flowers. All was going well. Now comes the total break down..... We returned to pick up the trays at 11:30. Although it did not seem especially busy we could not get anyone behind the deli counter to acknowledge us. After several minutes my daughter stopped one of your clerks passing by and asked her to see if we could get some help. There were people behind the deli counter at this time, and they did not seem swamped. Eventually a young man joined the others behind the deli. We explained we had prepared trays to pick up and gave him our name. He looked confused but asked a co-worker what to do. He then explained that they were in the hot kitchen not the deli and we could get them there. He walked over to another counter and we followed. He returned with one tray. We explained there should be three in total. Again looking confused he asked for help. The agitated lady then went in search of the missing trays and eventually returned with them. For some reason she wanted to put the trays which were covered as usual inside of bags rather than just giving them to us. This process was cumbersome and she did jostle the trays but eventually she was done. Slow but at least the order was complete. After paying ($110+) we exited to go to our car with the trays. This entire process took more than twenty (20) minutes. As we were leaving my daughter called. She had forgotten the stick pin for Uncle Frank's boutonniere, and asked if we could stop by the floral counter and ask for a stick pin. Since we were running a bit late my oldest daughter said she would run back in and get them while I got the grandkids and trays in the car. She returned to the car about 10 minutes later looking very frustrated. When I asked why she told be the clerks at the florist counter had refused to provide a stick pin. The reason provided was that they "could not give away their supplies." They suggested she find a Hobby Lobby. When my daughter explained we were not from the area and had no idea where a Hobby Lobby was, they shrugged and repeated they could not give away their supplies. She offered to buy a stick pin, but that was also refused. Stick pins cannot possibly cost more than ten cents.... a dime. More likely less than a penny. I was thunderstruck. I am happy to be alive after my visit to the Abilene HEB. There are so many things that went wrong, with one trip! Besides a few random sales, the prices are much higher, especially on meats, than Marketstreet. The store is old and poorly laid out. The employees, especially management are rude and try to not to honor the posted sale prices. They even accused me of putting a sale sticker on a deli tray, myself. The parking lot is small and has very small spots. Also, it was way over crowded! Don't try to pull over to the side to load your groceries, unless you like getting accosted by the local unsavories. I would strongly suggest to corporate, get a security guard! I definitely won't be back, here. read more

I used to live close to this store and was in there a lot. I hate the way they change the produce section around so often. I know their reason, but as a shopper, once I learn a store, I don't like it changed up. The seafood section always has a strong smell, unlike Market Place. Good prices, good meat. HEB is my choice for weekly groceries. As others have stated, it can be very crowded with rude customers, but since I am an early riser, I usually arrive on Sat morning by 6:30 and have my shopping done before the crowds get bad. I have had no bad experiences with checkers or baggers lately, although a few years ago I would not have said the same thing. The training of their employees has dramatically improved, prices and selection are great. read more

HEB has great prices and great sales! Their quality of meat is excellent and they have the best selection. I've been to the other stores around here and they cannot come close to the selection that HEB has. Their store brand products are excellent and save me a lot of money. They also started stocking my favorite beer so I don't have to make two stops on my way home from work. I am so glad we have an option like this in Abilene because it seems like all the other grocery stores are so over priced. read more

Not a single chicken to be found, beef all looked old, price on one item rang up higher and to rectify that I had to wait in the "customer service" line for 25 minutes (there was plenty of management standing around BTW) feels like a dirty store and not helpful when I needed help! read more

I hate the fact that half the time I have to bag my own groceries. I also hate the fact that half the time there are workers and management just standing around when it's busy as can be and of course they decide to stack shelves when it's in the middle of the day and extremely busy! I'm not very happy with HEB right now. Bought Streamline Organic Raspberry Jam, opened it, spread it on the bread, and when I went to close it I noticed some fuzzy black stuff on the lid that didn't look good and I didn't like. Raspberry is very dark but it's not black. Then I looked at the expiration date and couldn't believe it. It had expired on 12-01-2013. That's TWO years ago. Doesn't anyone go through the shelves as they stock new things and throw whatever is old? Do I have to look at every item's expiration date while I shop so I don't end up getting poisoned by old and bad food? I thought it was the store's job to throw the old away. I am glad my kids and I didn't eat it because I can't imagine how sick we would've been. Shame on you HEB! read more
