The much awaited HEB Marketplace (a.k.a. Mega HEB) opened a few weeks ago and has Clear Lake City abuzz! Tales of monumental aisles, endless all-you-can sample vendors, a wine section that would rival a Specs, and friendly customer service! I can say it has most of these! The location is near several affluent Clear Lake City neighborhoods which is its obvious target audience. The location is very accessible from anywhere in the area. Clear Lake City Blvd. runs from I-45, or you can catch it from Middlebrook. From the Seabrook side, it's actually not that much farther to here than the Clear Lake Pantry (at El Camino and Bay Area). Parking lot is huge and wide, you won't be too far from the front. They have an impressive floral and gardening section out front of the store, would rival what you could find at a hardware store (for smaller things). They also have a gas station with prices that aren't quite competitive with Seabrook or the Beltway 8 corridor nearby (but convenient for sure). Inside, the store is arranged logically. I have some trouble because the aisles transition between the front and back of the store, so you almost need to walk down the middle to make sure you don't miss something. After a few visits I got used to the frozen aisles (which frankly are small for a store of this size) can be hit in one swoop then back to the regular aisles. Customer service is top notch, they always are at HEB. Everyone willing to help you find something if you ask. Plenty of cheery employees offering sumptuous samples you don't want to miss. I was a little disappointed in the selection as compared to the usual HEB. I had hoped to find many more varieties of groceries as compared to the HEB Pantry. It's mostly the same selection, just in wider aisles (and maybe more frill items). Wine, Beer, and baked chips were the only notable areas for more variety. I had hoped for additional flavors of frozen meals (such as pizza or Lean Cuisines) but they were identical. They didn't have the fresh bread style I prefer (sub/hoagie buns) that the Pantry has. The deli, seafood, and meats might hvae a bit more as well I do like the larger carts so I have to do less stacking. Hey, sometimes it's the little things. And with the additional square footage, plenty of free samples around the whole store. This can break up the monotony of shopping. All in all, I probably prefer the Clear Lake Pantry (hence the one star lower). Not that much more for the additional trip. What I thought might be an incremental improvement was only a slight one. read more

This HEB literally is my favorite grocery store. It's always stocked with everything I need (and don't need). Super clean and the people that work here are super friendly and helpful. You can come at the busiest hours and there are always lines that go quickly and people expediting your checkout. read more

Update: I'm dropping my 5-star rating to four stars after several visits. While everything below still rings true, we are disappointed in their sacking at checkout. I specifically organize our groceries on the conveyor belt so that they literally can sack them as it comes through and everything is together as it should be, such as colds all together. Instead, our items are split up throughout sacks and cleaning items and Off! bug spray was out with food and drinks! That should be an obvious issue. A new HEB, this one sets the standards for all grocery experiences. It was very clean and stocked well. Even the fruit and produce looked good for the season. The staff was very friendly, especially the cashier and sacker. We went on a Monday night and were pleased to see that they had several checkout lines open despite a very small crowd. We also noticed that a manager was walking the store inspecting shelves and asking individuals if she could help them find anything. The regular yellow coupons were good sales true day we went as well, saving us $7. We liked the the setup, cleanliness, and very friendly staff and will definitely be shopping here again. read more

The parking up front needs to be for customers that actually get out of their car not for people to pull up front and wait on their groceries. Parking is always so frustrating here. Move the pick up to the side of the building come on! read more

I love HEB in general, and this new store does not disappoint. They've added the coolness and variety of Whole Foods with an inexpensive kick. The store is just very happy and the partners (employees) are always friendly and helpful. Keep an eye out for all the samples and coupons! Love, love, LOVE this grocery store! They have a beautiful produce section. Their meat department is huge and everything is fresh and great looking! I love their pre-seasoned chicken and try the meatballs if you haven't already. They have an incredible bakery section with all kinds of delicious treats. They have a really cool section of loose spices that we have taken advantage of a few times and the jerk seasoning is really great on chicken. The Tuscan seasoning is tasty on pork chops! They also have whole coffee beans you can grind in the store which are delicious! The staff is also stellar and helpful. I do recommend downloading their app and signing up for the digital coupon program because there's some pretty good deals on there sometimes! read more

I'm so happy that now there's an HEB so close to my house! It's so convenient if I need to make a quick run to buy ingredients that I'm missing when I'm cooking. This HEB is the best grocery store I've been to in years. Every department is more than adequately stocked; it had every single thing I needed and more! The vegetables and fruit section was my favorite - it was all very fresh and had extensive variety. The bakery had beautiful cakes and cupcakes that would be perfect for a birthday or party. The meat department had plenty of pre seasoned & unique burgers, steaks, chicken, and fish. It would definitely be the perfect place to go when planning a meal for a large gathering or party. The store was very clean and all of the workers were very friendly despite it being very busy and hectic. They had PLENTY of cashiers and I didn't have to wait at all. They were giving out samples all over the store as well. I will definitely be coming back on a weekly basis, despite a bit of a drive! Definitely worth it. read more

Just what this area needed! I'm seriously here at least 4-5 times a week. It's large, open and the shopping lanes are wide. My kids love coming for all the samples and the cool kids activities they put on a few times a month. I LOVE the sushi department. The people who staff it are always friendly and have been willing on a few occasions to make me my fav Caribbean roll even though they were closing up for the night. And the biggest reason we come here is for the buddy bucks machine and the gumball machine. It's what keeps my 4 year old happy. And everyone and I mean everyone that works there that I've come into contact with have all been amazing. It even gets me exercising. I don't mind walking the 2 miles there knowing that I get to walk around an awesome grocery store. read more

I have never been in an HEB that didn't feel like home. Whether in Austin, San Antonio, or my hometown, HEB treats you like a friend or neighbor. Where do I start? The meal deals and combo locos proves HEB knows their Texans (and their marketing haha). I seriously save so much money using these deals and I've done the math! If there is a coupon for something that the store has run out of, they will gladly allow you to pick a similar item (yes even name brand) to replace it! The wine/beer selection is vast and highly representative of the bustling craft brew scene in Texas. I enjoy their tastings to learn about what to try next. The seafood, deli, and meat department attendants are always attentive and willing to answer questions or special cut a meat for you. They have decent crawfish when in season too! Although the sushi is nothing to write home about, I am a sucker for picking up a roll or two almost every time. The bakery has ridiculous cakes, pastries and cookies. I try not to look in that direction when I go! I use the pharmacy for prescriptions and the pharmacists are always willing to consult with customers and are very knowledgeable. I love how HEB almost always has their brand in any product you want and is always cheaper. I've done the math with other popular stores and they always come out on top. They know this and that is why all product's price tags have the 'cents per ounce' displayed. Like I said earlier, they treat their customers with southern hospitality. There is always a member out in the rain helping load up cars. There are probably even more reasons why I prefer HEB over all other stores but these are just a few. I used to love this this store. Have spent multiples of thousands of dollars here. That is until I encountered a Manager named Deb. I have worked in retail management myself, and I have never met anyone as rude as Deb. I politely asked her to open the cosmetic case, and she let. out a huge sigh and rolled her eyes. Then she proceeded to tell me that the cosmetic would have to be carried to the front of the store, as some customers cannot be trusted to pay and then looked me up and down. This is the second time that I have encountered rude behavior from her. And I have only interacted with her twice. Both time she has acted annoyed at being asked for any assistance. The sad thing is as that the rest of the store is very clean and all of the employees have been very nice and helpful, except for this one person who should not be working with the public. read more

Nice and clean. They seem to be out of stock every so often and they change/get rid of certain items. It's a little inconvenient when you use a certain brand they remove but overall a good grocery store. Has plenty of organic and clean (toxin free) household items. read more

This is the best HEB I've ever seen. Ever since it opened, we've been bypassing the HEB on El Camino that is nearest to our apartment. This HEB is huge, clean, quiet, and has a great selection. The people at the deli counter are super helpful, as are the people at the cooking station. It's never overly crowded. We are moving to Dickinson soon, and we've been lamenting the distance that we will be from this HEB. We might even keep coming here once or twice a month, as ridiculous as that sounds. That's how impressed we are with this location! read more

Always clean and filled with helpful staff. They will order items you want if they don't carry them. Also today I left one bag at the checkout and realized when I got home. Went back and they couldn't locate it so they told me to get the items again at no charge - I was shocked and didn't expect this. Anyway you can't beat customer service like this. You can't go wrong shopping at this HEB. We go at least once a week. The store is clean offering fresh produce and meats. I also enjoy there selection of pastries. The people who work there a friendly and helpful. This store HEB offers a demo kitchen to sample dishes with recipe cards and ingredients available if your so inclined to make the dish yourself. Great new store, plenty of space, lots of free samples and most of their employees are very nice. My only negative is their bakery. The doughnuts and bagels are like movie props, they look great on the outside but lack flavor and the dough is disappointingly dry. Tortillas are gummy too. read more

Glad to have a new grocery store in this area to give some competition to Kroger. I love the one in Friendswood, so I am trying to get used to the new layout. I don't like having produce on the left side of the store, and I don't like the orange juice being wrapped all the way around the back of the store, almost in the pharmacy. I get that you want people to have to go all the way to the back of the store and pick up extra items along the way, but this is just too obvious! Everyone is friendly and of course, the store is clean. I brought a new prescription and am very pleased that I save money using HEB pharmacy over my old one ( that includes the name of a color the Irish like.) I do believe that you overall save money when you shop at HEB, just wear your walking shoes to shop at this one! :) read more

Why on earth would they put this HEB in such close proximity of the one on El Camino? Now the El Camino one rests in this ones shadow. I know it's new but they seem to never be out of anything. Staff is nice too but only 4-5 lanes open on a busy Friday at 3pm? That's a little..odd. Other than that, no complaints! 5 stars! read more

This is normally my favorite grocery store, but my review is specifically regarding their curbside service. I decided to try it for the first time today. I placed my order first thing in the morning - around 8:30 a.m. Pickup time was anytime between 1:30 and 2:00 p.m. I arrived at 1:40 p.m. and they didn't bring my groceries out until 2:10 p.m. So a 30 minute wait. The guy said they were shorthanded today, so I can understand that sometimes things happen. He also said they substituted a couple of items in our order and that was fine with us. When we got home (15 minutes away) it turned out that they left the substituted items out of our order completely. In addition there was another item completely missing. Roughly $10 in groceries. I need these items for recipes I'm making this week and I don't want to just throw away my money (already paid extra for curbside) so I called to see if they could refund me for the items (I thought I could just go get them at a closer grocery store). I was told I would have to come in person. VERY inconvenient. I drove back over there and was given vouchers for the missing items and then had to go through the store and hunt the stuff down and check out. So in all that time it took the same amount of time it would have taken if I had done the shopping myself and I had to go in the store and shop myself during peak hours. This completely defeated the purpose of curbside delivery and was SUPER INCONVENIENT. Very disappointing for a store that normally delivers good customer service. read more

So I do not get the gushing over this store. Yes, it's big and new, but that isn't what makes a good grocery store. Pluses: 1. They carry some items that are unique. I will go there occasionally for some of these items. 2. Samples, which allow you to try these unique items before buying. The people doing the samples are very nice. 3. Combo Locos can be useful IF they are both things you will use. 4. Only decent grocery store pico de gallo around. They also have Kenz Henz eggs, which are local and pasture raised. 5. I like their natural chicken. Minuses: 1. Too big. It takes forever to get through this store and unless I need something I can only get here, I can go somewhere else and have a quicker and more pleasant experience. 2. There are MANY items I can't get there that I have to go elsewhere for, anyway, in spite of the ginormous size of the store. Part of this is that they push their store brands, a lot of which aren't very good. They have no Peet's coffee, no Sargento cheese, no Birdseye vegetables. 3. Feels like a warehouse. The carts are outside and get rained on (rain in Houston does not just come straight down) and there's no wall in the back between the store and the stockroom. You have to listen to the music they're playing in the stockroom when you're back there - weird. 4. Produce department designed for giants. I am an average height woman and I can't reach a lot of it. A lot of the produce I buy is better and/or cheaper elsewhere. 5. Awful carts. Big carts are giant (bigger than other HEBs), small carts have no cupholder. 6. Bakery is huge, but the breads I use most are better at Randalls (some even at Kroger). They slice all the breads (into really thin slices!) by about 5:00, so it's impossible to run in for a loaf of bread to eat with dinner. 7. They clearly do not train their employees to bag groceries at all, other than to cram as much as they can into a bag, even if it squishes your bread or freezes your produce, and to use the teeny tiny ultra-thin bags as much as possible, even if the one item is tall and heavy. I have literally seen the WORST grocery bagging here and would rather bag stuff myself. 8. I'd like to buy their premade burgers, but the selection is pitiful. Everything has either bacon or jalapenos. No chicken or turkey burgers. Just because I live in TX doesn't mean I live on beef, bacon, and jalapenos. 9. They claim to have lower prices, but they have very few sales. I can buy most things cheaper elsewhere if I pay a tiny bit of attention and buy items when they are on sale. (The other big grocers in the area have excellent sales.) And while some prices are lower at HEB, some are not and the ones that are are only slightly lower. I honestly find I spend less overall elsewhere. A lot of the store coupons here require me to get two items, one of which I don't want. Most of the free stuff in the "meal deals" is junk food (soda and chips are not part of a "meal"). So this HEB will never be my primary grocery store, but yes, I will continue to go there occasionally for specific things. But I am now going even less often. They recently marked off several of the CLOSEST spaces to the store, including the CLOSEST HANDICAPPED ACCESSIBLE SPOT, for their online ordering pickup. This is obnoxious - normal stores put these spaces near one side of the store, convenient enough for the employees bringing out your groceries, but not blocking off the best parking spaces. Naturally, these parking spaces mostly sit empty, other than the people who get disgusted and park there anyway. I am so annoyed by this every time I go there that I am definitely going less often than I used to. read more

After school my brother and I went to H-E-B just to pick up some things for dinner. I babysit him myself until my parents get home and usually I make dinner for them (I am 17 and he's four). My brother and I went to pick up some things like cheese and pasta for the dish I was going to make. When I went to check out my card was declined because of unknown reasons. I could not get a hold of my bank and waited there for about five minutes at the register. A manager who I did not catch the name of came up and allowed me to have the items free (total was around 26 dollars). I just wanted to write this review because I've never received as much kindness as that and this H-E-B deserves a five star review for the kindness they showed and everything about the store is great. Her act did not go unappreciated and I will be sending a nice email or letter to corporate telling them how great of a store this is.
