Crane Game Review: This HEB comes with two crane games, a .50 and a 1.00. The dollar is one of the plastic ball retrieval cranes, so I never touch it. The .50 has a large selection of decent stuffed animals, as well as miscellaneous baseball caps. They do not usually over stuff the projects so retrieval is manageable. As a bonus, when the machine is recently filled, they will line the walls with loose items, thus making it easy for a simple grab. The machine gets an A-. HEB review. Looking for fresh produce, and a good selection of meats? Then you already know to go to HEB. Sure, the prices are a little higher (not Randalls high, but more than Walmart), but if you get one of their coupon deals you can save quite a bit. It is a clean store, and the free samples are plentiful. Bonus: Make sure you grab some Kettle Corn from right outside. Delicious and should not be missed. read more

I always shop at this HEB store. The prices are low and the selection is just awesome. You don't even need a card - just go in and get the lowest prices on grocery items you can find without a coupon! They have in-store coupons you can pick up and use throughout the store, which is nice. The lines at the registers are usually pretty quick unless you get stuck behind the old lady that still writes checks and can't find her pen and then remembers that she has 5 coupons she forgot to give to the cashier. Why does that always happen to me? But I digress... They have self-checkout lines, which are nice, a bank inside, you can pay your bills at customer service and their grocery selection is very big. I never shop anywhere else. My only complaint is that it is just always busy. I like going shopping when I'm not dodging people and screaming kids that parents apparently forget to watch all the time. If you do as well, and don't care about prices, then this place is for you. I try to avoid crowds when I shop as much as possible, but I was in the area and needed to pick up some distilled water for my daily sinus rinse, so I had to deal with the crowds of people buying Sunday groceries during tax free weekend. Parking was a bit of pain of course because of the crowd, but thank goodness HEB has a pretty big parking lot. I eventually parked and had enough energy to get out the car despite the August sun trying to zap it out of me! I didn't see any carts available, so I decided to just carry the 2 gallons of water I wanted with a basket (that would keep me from shopping for more than I needed). Boy was I right about that one! Luckily I work out or else I would have had to find a cart to carry the water. I walked around a little to nibble on some samples and headed for the express lanes, which were moving fast since people adhered to the item limit. I thought I was out the door until I noticed that one gallon of the water was dusty. In fact, the bottle had so much dust on it, blowing on it couldn't remove it. I asked the cashier if she could hold my items at the register while I switched out the water. When I reached my intended aisle, I not only noticed other bottles were a little dusty, but one must have been open or coming loose because i felt water on my hand when I picked it up. That's where this store lost the star--not checking on the suitability of the inventory. Otherwise, despite the heavy traffic flow, I would shop at this store again. Meh. I come to this HEB for convenience only. They are relatively close to my home, and they have most of the items I purchase on a regular basis. Now most of the three stars is because I'm a fan of HEB the company itself. Their store branded products are generally excellent, as they spend a lot of time to ensure product quality. However this review is for this particular location itself. The store is a larger one, though not the Plus! size store that I'm used to back home. The layout seems a tad bit weird to me, and it can be difficult finding things, but the staff are friendly, and I've never had an issue getting assistance from one of the "partners." I also appreciate that the pharmacy is at the front of the store, so you don't have to walk all the way to the back of the store for a quick prescription pick-up. The pharmacy staff is extremely helpful, by the way. I wish this location had more grass-fed beef options, but overall the food choices are plentiful. My biggest complaint is the obsessive, fanatical, JESUS music pumped loudly from the speakers. NEWSFLASH HEB, not all of your customers are Christian. It wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't as loud or incessant. There is literally no other music ever played, and it is NOT soft. Haven't you ever heard of Yanni? read more

Nice, large HEB, especially considering it isn't a Plus! or Market location. Been here a few times, and I went last night in search of a book. I walked around the store about 3 times, and I never found the book section! They had some magazines at a stand by the registers, and they had a few gift books by the greeting cards. And a few randomly stands for coloring books throughout the store. But no novels! :( I think this is the only HEB I've been to that doesn't have a book section! Even the smaller, older one on Hwy 6 (& Kieth Harrow) has them! Bummer. Still love HEB, but there's my rant. read more

Heb is my favorite grocery store so far! Fair prices, nice workers, good variety. How is it that a grocery store is cheaper than a pharmacy (cvs) for probiotic stuff? I was so confused!!! I love this HEB! Being new to the area, I tried the nearby Fiesta, Walmart, Kroger.. and ran the gamut of grocery stores. No store combined the quality and low prices like HEB. Sure, you might find a special here and there that offers a better price, but in the end.. it was never worth time to do the run for one or two items when the entire basket at HEB was overall a low price and great quality. This HEB also has great specialty items! Great selection of teas, make your own six pack, etc etc etc.. read more

What is there not to love about HEB, it has everything and reasonably priced. I find myself here several times a week, I had to give up my DQ habit for healthier fare, and HEB has just the ticket with fruits, veggies, and salads. If I need to pick-up a few items, I can get in out in a reasonable time, I love they have plenty of cashiers available during lunch time. There are also demo's my favorite :FREE food .... read more

They have poor customer service and poor management skills. The cashier checking my mother and I out was rudely throwing our food around as she was scanning it. My mother politely asked the woman if she could handle our food with a bit more care, the woman then caught an attitude and started mumbling unnecessary things. My mother and her then got into an argument that caused the manager to come over where he told us if we felt that strongly we could just leave. We are frequent shoppers there and know the manager he then proceeded to telling my mother he couldn't believe she was acting this way. I've worked in customer service for 5+ years, and that was no way for him to handle it. His employee was in the wrong, no one wants mishandled beat up food. read more

We visited this location on our way back to Houston after going to the Katy Mills mall. Their produce was really fresh and their Jalepeno peppers were especially ripe. They had a pretty good seafood department as well. They have a great selection of groceries, but I've seen better offerings at other stores. I noticed that they mislabeled a few items in their store. For example: they had some very fresh Albacore Tuna in their fish department that was labeled as Yellowfin Tuna and they also had Scotch Bonnet peppers labeled as Habanero peppers in their produce department. It seemed like they were getting ready to reorganize the store, because a lot of things were out of place when we came here. Overall, this store comes across as your average HEB. They're not the best HEB out there, but they're definitely far from the worst. I wouldn't mind shopping here again if I had to. read more

Every time I try to get something from the bakery I always wait minutes before I'm acknowledged and then I feel rushed. Today I waited minutes again to get help then when I asked if I wanted to put happy birthday on the cake he offered yellow on a black and white cake and he act like he didn't have white or in my opinion didn't feel like putting the white icing in the object used to write the words. read more

Tried to get a name-brand drug refilled here. I have no insurance. The price went up from $400 to $800 for a 90 day supply in one fell swoop. Thank God I found the drug available from a Canadian pharmacy, DrugMartDirect.com, for $150. The HEB Pharmacy refused to transfer the Rx to them, though, so I had to get a new one. Whatta racket! This review is of the HEB bakery. I called today to try to place a same-day order for a quarter sheet cake. A simple happy birthday cake with whipped icing. Nothing special. I had gone to this HEB the previous night to try to order this cake but their Bakery was closed and it was 9 p.m. I was told by a cashier that I could order a same-day cake in the morning when they opened. So I called at 8:30 this morning to try to place an order for this simple cake. The lady on the phone at the bakery told me it would not be possible and orders needed to be placed 24 hours ahead of time contrary to what the cashier told me the previous night. I ended up placing a same-day order for a cake at the HEB on Highway 6 to be picked up at 2pm. I will not ever consider trying to order a cake from this HEB located on Fry Road ever again. I would absolutely love to speak to management if they would care to comment. read more

The technician that came up to the window asked me for my name my birthdate and then asked me when she saw my medication she said with an attitude "do you know how much it is?" I said "No, tell me how much it is." She said "$289" I said "I have a discount card" She said "that's with your card." I explain to her that the card that is on file is one that H-E-B automatically put on my account that is called lone star something or other. I asked her if she could check with the good RX card that I had with me. She said again "that's with the card" I told her "this is a different card, I need you to check with this card" she took a while and when she came back she said "it's the same price this is name brand" obviously my flovent inhaler is the name Brand that's why it's expensive because there is no generic. I don't appreciate being treated as if I can't afford something when obviously in the past I forked over the money for it . If you look at my prescription history you'll see how much I spent on medications. I feel that the pharmacy technician is not happy with her job and didn't even bother to try to use the discount card. I pulled out my phone where it showed the price should be $262.98-$277.22. I showed it to her and she mumbled something and said it's still the same price. I don't appreciate being given an attitude when obviously I need my inhaler to breathe. I told her I was not paying for that and I left I am now transferring my prescription to another pharmacy where hopefully the pharmacy technicians have a positive attitude and don't treat someone as if they can't afford medication. This is the first time I have dealt with her the other techs are always nice to me. My inhaler cost over $200 and I have always paid for my medication so if I show a discount card the least the technician can do is put in the card and give me the measly discount. I didn't beg for a free hand out, I work hard for my money. I made sure to email corporate. read more

If you can't find it at this grocery store, you seriously don't need it. The store has a great selection of fresh fruits and veggies, both regular and organic. There are loads of yummy things to tempt you throughout the place and the staff is friendly and helpful. It has always been well stocked when I visit and there have always been many checkouts open at once. I recommend this store. read more

Bought my daughters birthday cake on Friday morning. Had my daughters birthday party that evening. Cut the cake as we normally do, and noticed it was crumbly. I served 3 slices before my daughter (birthday girl) said Mommy this cake is nasty. I asked her what was wrong and she said it was dry. So i tasted it and i was extremely dry. I boxed the cake back up to return it. Manager Sam gave me the hardest time in life on returning it after i explained that i was sold a old cake amd my daughters party was slighty ruined, not to mention me having to buy a whole new cake that day read more

I'm so disappointed and bothered by the level of service that I did not receive from an employee by the name of Sabastian in your produce dept. I own a smoothie shop and buy my produce from HEB daily. I go between this store and your bear creek location and spend easily $75.00 average on produce daily. I buy a bulk box of bananas code #6024... Today when I asked Sabastian to please get me a box from the back he replied with "we don't do that" I told him I was pretty sure yall do that and then he told me "it's going to need to be weighed" I was caught off guard by his responses to me. I mean what do I care if it needs to be weighed? Bottom line I need a bulk box of bananas from the back like I buy daily. Then he said "you're going to have to wait"! Now I'm totally appalled at his response as he turns around to keep staking his berries. Then another customer ask him something about what she sees in the circular and he stops what he's doing to help her and still has me standing there like an idiot ignoring me and my request. At this point I go to the flower dept to ask for a manager to be called. Yes, the produce mgr did come and assist us with the requested box and apologized. As a store owner I believe in customer service. I feel that management needs to be aware of the lack of service staff gives to loyal customers. Is this the proper way to treat a loyal customer? Come on, Walmart and Kroger are across the street and like I said I also frequent the bear creek location where I have experienced above and beyond excellent service. I have a problem with prices not matching at check out. This happens all the time and I'm constantly having to check my receipt before I leave the store. Prices have gone up enough without being cheated by this store. This has happened to me two weeks in a row, A bag of apples rang up a dollar more than what the sign said. I brought it to the attention of the store manager on duty. She said okay sorry. Went to a cashier and got a dollar. And with a smirk on her face handed it to me by holding it between two fingers like she was smoking a cigarette. I did not appreciate her attitude. However, I said thank you and moved on. But, I just went back this week to get another bag of those Kidz Pick apples because they are really good. And to my surprise once again they rang up a dollar more. AGAIN. Luckily I caught it at the register and the cashier was able to correct it. So my question is this. When I let a store manager know about an issue and they don't even care enough to fix it. Then who do I go to? Because I find price discrepancies all the time when I shop at the Fry Rd. store. This is just the first time I'm leaving a review, because I'm sick of it. Lost money adds up. The place use to have a limited selection because of the size it once was but since they've made some changes it is a lot more room for customers to walk and the selection of product has expanded tremendously. It looks like I'll be coming here a lot more. Also there are no self checkout lanes anymore but they have about 20 registers now so hopefully if I have 1 or 2 items I want have to wait 30 minutes to checkout!! read more

Decided to come try out this HeB since we will be moving in this area. After the experience with customer service today I will drive out of my way to go to any other HeB but this one. I checked out and left today at 11:43am. Lady walking around in a dark blue HeB polo while I was looking to check out noticed i only has 17 items. She instructed me to go to lane 4 where it was 15 items or less since I was barely over. I started unloaded my basket and the very rude cashier points to the sign and says "excuse me it's 15 items or less" I said "yes ma'am I understand that the lady walking around told me to come to this lane" she said "and who exactly was that huh?" Then rolled her eyes at me.....in front of all the other customers. Her tone and was extremely rude and not someone you should have checking out guests. I told her no worries if I was such an issue I'd go to a different lane and I removed all of my groceries from the belt and checked out at a different lane. Terrible customer service. read more

Fresh seafood is always previously frozen. Expect to check register during checkout as there is ALWAYS at least on error every time with the cashier or posted pricing. Most of staff is very good at what they do and very nice. Managers not so much. (exception butcher manager). Check expiration dates on products. Cheap/sale prices on items almost always expire very very soon. Even for not on sale items. Dairy products excellent and deli service more than adequate, very rarely a wait or short staffed. Would give 3 1/2 stars but to many pricing discrepencies downgrade to a three star rating. read more

I just moved to this area from Cleat Lake, and I could not be more disappointed in this HEB and what they do and do NOT stock. What's missing? 1. Good fresh food made to order. Other HEBs offer a deli where you can buy a selection of entrees as well as scrumptious fresh salads and sides. This one offers very few prepackaged salads in scattered places around the store. Very confusing. But if you want artery hardening and bad for you food, this HEBS offers many choices readily available! 2. Eco friendly and conscious cleaning products in any kind of selection. This one has only 2 scents of their own brand of laundry detergent in the giant size bottle. Where is the Mrs. Meyers selection of many cleaning products (including laundry detergent) available in many other HEBs around Houston? Come on! 3. Variety and choice throughout the store. This store takes the HEB only model to a new high. It is extremely difficult to find anything but their own brand of just about anything in canned goods and other inside the store aisle items. Come on, guys! Are you afraid that national brands will kick you to the curb? And hasn't anyone in this part of Houston ever heard of bottled red cabbage? It's great on hot dogs! 4. Presentation and choice in the fresh peanut and almond butter machine. In this store, they are located in an obscure aisle, not at the end of the aisle as in other locations. Also, they only offer the humongous round tub as a container. Other stores offer two sizes of square containers that stack so easily in the fridge or on your shelf. Make these machines a big feature and promote this very healthy option for additive free great nutrition! 5. Cleanliness and ambience overall. I'm not sure what the demographic is among regular shoppers, but you don't seem to be offering your best to them at this store. Clean it up, spruce it up, take it to a much higher level! I know I will trying out other area stores and will be happy to travel a few more miles for a quality store with higher quality food, more choices of brand, and better service. Final note: if you think this HEB has followed the new law and is using the chip feature to process your debit or credit cards, think again! I had to write a check one time because the system was so messed up it wouldn't take my card no matter how it was entered into the system. read more

H-E-B stands for Hooray, Enormous Bargains! What's there not to love about H-E-B? They have sales, coupons, low prices, demos, fresh tortillas, an organic section, fast checkout, etc. The list goes on. Yes, it's almost always busy here, but that's a good sign. Last time I went to Randall's on a Tuesday afternoon, there were about five other customers? Why? Probably because Randall's is way more expensive. H-E-B even has lower prices than Walmart and you get in and out much faster. Checkout lines look long, but don't take long. The cashier are fast, friendly, and eager to help. No complaints.
