Chaotic HEB store. They have a lot of items here, but the issue is trying to find everything. Not everything good when it's big. My issue was coming here on a Sunday, the aisles were backed up like I-35, it was horrible. I sang out loud to myself, "where is what I'm looking for?" Then an HEB employee helped me, but didn't give me a specific aisle number. I interrupted this other employee from stocking and he stopped let out a huge sigh, and gave me the correct aisle number. Hey, it wasn't my idea to build such a giant mega store having things spread out so wide that you end up lost trying to find ingredients for the week. It's a nice HEB. It's HEB...which ones aren't nice...but it's obvious, it's not MY HEB. I called yesterday evening because I've been trying to track down dungeness crab legs. They said they carried them so I went early Sunday morning (around 7am...they weren't even set up yet). I inquired about the dungeness crab and was told they are only highlighting snow crab but they have blue crab in some packages. He never even went to look if there was any waiting to be unpacked. I know it's a first work problem and I'm absolutely spoiled but that is the service HEB has conditioned me to come to expect. I was a bit offended but left the understanding I'd have to go back to my HEB in South Austin if I'm looking for good customer service related to specific products. I'm not sure if it's because this is a relatively new store but it just wasn't a good shopping experience. I can't count how many times I was almost ran into by the HEB in store shoppers with their carts...and they stared at me like I was the issue! Since I live off Yarrington Rd I'll stick to the San Marcos HEB. They seem more friendly and to have their stuff together. I only gave this store 3 stars off the HEB name. For the third time in the last two weeks I have had to ask an employee to help me get creamer because the creamers were not pushed down to make it easy to get. This store's parking lot is ridiculous! 8 x out of 10, you'll walk a football field away to get in and HEBs are notorious for not being able to find a parking space. One inside, they have the store laid out so that you HAVE to walk the WHOLE store floor. Produce quality is poor. THANK God for the new Sprouts. Curbside is horrible! No attention to detail. Week after week, my orders are messed up. Something is missing, they picked the wrong item, pick up wait times are long. If I had another option, I wouldn't shop here ever again. H.E.B Plus is their local everything store and more! I tried to say HEB instead of saying it literally H/E/B. The locals did not like that! LOL. If I was living here, this is definitely my place to shop more than Walmart! Good prices on everything. We went here a few times needing food and supplies. I love H‑E‑B but this one needs some work. They are frequently out of things. When they do have everything in stock it is a much better experience. Wowee, come here at the wrong time and you'd think you were in the prepping stages of a zombieapocalypse. No joke, this place can get busier than sin. Total scramble, everyone going every which way (not just patrons, but employees too with their stocking or mobile order collection)- it's like weaving your shopping cart through amusement park bumper cars. That said, avoid peak hours (y'know, weekday evenings after work hours and weekends) and you'll be fine, LOL. H-E-B is pretty great. As a Californian, it's one of those new-fangled Texas things that you quickly come to love and rely on. While my husband and I do equal amounts of our grocery shopping at the Walmart in Buda, the H-E-B has a MUCH better variety especially when it comes to meat, produce, and gluten-free items. They even sell a few things (like yogurt) cheaper than Walmart! We also love their store brand sodas, which are made with cane sugar rather than high fructose corn syrup, and for much cheaper than name brand sodas. We prefer this H-E-B to the one in Buda (closer to where we live) because it's bigger and has more stuff, such as their non-food item section for pharmacuticals/pets/toiletries and their toy aisle/office supplies/clothing department. This H-E-B also tends to have a good sized seasonal selection according to whatever holiday is going on. Sometimes when we come in they have multiple food sample stations up handing out freebies, and even occasionally a chef showing off recipes there in the store. Pretty neat. There's also a place toward the front where you can grab hot, pre-made meals for an easy dinner if need be. And I love their huge selection of one-meal, oven-ready pre-packaged offerings (they're a little pricey so I don't often indulge, but I've enjoyed every single one I've tried- sometimes it's nice to have say, a chicken alfredo without all the hassle!). Most times we use the self-checkout when we have a small amount of stuff, and the terminals can be fussy about placing each and every item in the bagging area before proceeding to the next, which can get irritating, especially if you're too fast. Other times we use the standard checkout and the employees are usually friendly and in a good mood, which is nice. =) They sell a few garden items like plants and furniture which is located outside the entrance (I've never purchased any though, so I don't know how difficult it is to purchase them). The restrooms are rather small and inadequate (not many stalls) for the sheer number of patrons coming in and out of the store, but I typically don't have to wait long to use them because they are tucked away in an almost hidden location of where you can sit and eat! Maybe folks don't realize they're there? This location also has a plastic bag return for recycling, which is great because it always seems like we have way too many plastic bags! read more

Ok as a former chef and one who likes to entertain, I frequent the grocery store, a lot. Back in June I moved out here and asked a couple people, where the heck is the grocery store!? Oh, you got to go to HEB! Then the age-old question, what the heck does that stand for of which there are 2 theories. First, it's the founders initials and the other theory it stands for Here Everything's Better. Regardless of the definition here in Kyle I'm pretty much limited to options so HEB is my home. Now people should realize with all conveniences come drawbacks. HEB Plus is huge, probably the largest freestanding grocery store I've been to. I've lived in 5 different states so that's saying something. So, you need to zip in and grab an onion at 11am? Well guess what, you'll be parking downtown! Ok I'm being hyperbolic to amuse myself. But then comes the lines, even the self-checkout, always the lines. Why is it busy at 9am on Weds? My final gripe is more of a question, do people really buy fake jewelry, non-sports clothing, etc at a grocery store? To me it's overkill as I just want groceries, but I'm a small voice in a big state. Ok now I'd like to make my observations about food. The Asian grill is actually really good! If you nab it straight off of the flattop it's better than two Chinese restaurants around it, which shall remain nameless. I would like to see a sandwich shop plopped right there where you get freshly shaved meats. Think about it "Fresh Boarshead subs!" The do it at Publix in the south so just a suggestion. The other meals you can purchase there are pretty good such as soups, salads, etc. As for groceries they have a rather large and diverse selection other than produce. The mushroom selection is sparse. Want to pick up some woodear, loose shiitake, Oyster, Enoki, etc? Not here my dear, although they do have shitake packaged. I've hunted for exotic fruits such as dragon fruit, Buddha's hand, Star fruit etc but they don't carry it. Otherwise they carry the standard fair which is more in bulk than variety. I will say I'm impressed with the seafood selection. Scanning the isle and see mahi, grouper, catfish (yuck), salmon, etc. I bought the mahi and it was very good, not old or stale at all. The best thing, is this is just a small portion of what they have. As for beef, lamb, chicken etc no need to spend to much time as they have the best selection I've seen in a store. Chances are they have what you need. My overall assessment of HEB is it works well for it's target group, middle class Texas family looking for good prices on food that is pretty standard with having some "elegances" spread out enough to allow those who are adventurous to try something new. The shelves are well stocked, the environment clean and safe, and house made items such as breads, tortillas, soups, etc are very well crafted. My only issues are small for a big place, parking and checkout. Otherwise HEB is a good grocery store for the masses. read more

If you didn't know already, this HEB Plus has its own nursery / greenhouse called HEB Texas Backyard. I love it! It has a variety of outdoor plants, fruit trees, pottery, herbs, and more. This is a perfect place to go if you want to start a vegetable garden, they have the seeds for planting or you can buy the herb that is always grown. I am also impressed with the amount of fruit trees they carry, they have nectarines, raspberries, and lemon. Highly recommend to come here. They also have a variety of house plants, they are little bit on the crispier end, some seem like they are dying, but still a good selection. They haven't everything from the swiss cheese plant, monsteras, fig trees, and snake plants. read more

This place is terrible. A few weeks ago they started reorganizing the store, and it's pure misery shopping here now. What used to take half an hour now takes over an hour, easily. It appears that the whole purpose of the reorganization is to shift the focus away from us folks that like to do our own shopping, and towards the "curbside" service. So, in addition to subsidizing the "curbside" shoppers by paying higher prices to cover the added labor cost, now we are paying with our time as well. Let me start by saying I love shopping IN the store. However, with the 2 of us being in a high risk category, we've decided that we have to stick with curbside for now. I have been so disappointed with the quality of produce. I've literally gotten rotten green beans (did call and got it taken off my bill), but other things seem to go bad SO much quicker than if I've selected them. Onions that go bad in less than a week? Onions? Tomatoes in 2 days. Such a waste, and then I don't have what I need to cook with. Also, what's with the number of items that you could buy in store but aren't available for pickup? One example is Boboli pizza crust. See if you can find it on your app at this store. That's just an example. One pet peeve - please stop using so many bags! And they're the small plastic bags that I can't even repurpose to use as trash can liners like I can with the normal size bags. I wish shoppers would pay attention to quantities. If I need 2.5 lbs of potatoes (for Christmas dinner!), that doesn't mean I really only want 1.1 lbs. I know things are messed up right now, but attention to detail goes a long way. I will say the guys/gals that bring items out have always been super nice. We appreciate all they've been doing right now. I do miss seeing my favorite in-store employees (David, one of the demo chefs!) and can't wait to shop in-store again. read more

Large HEB with a bigger variety than your normal grocer. This location is always super busy so if you need a quick in and out experience, head to the Buda location. The payoff for combating the crowd here is the larger selection. The Simple meals are located right next to produce and the main entrance. These are fantastic and always worth grabbing. Produce is Always fresh and stocked here. Fresh homemade tortillas. My abuela would probably be disappointed that I'm being them from the grocery store but they are so good and save me so much time in the kitchen. The layout is worth learning to make your trips here more efficient. The store is big, give yourself ample time to really get through it all for your large grocery trips. And as with almost any HEB customer service is top notch here. Almost every lane is open for check out, friendly cashiers, and baggers ready and available at all times. read more

The app says the store closes at noon, the voice message says the holiday hours the store closes at noon. But apparently curbside closes at 11 and they will cancel ur order if you are not there by exactly 11. Staff at H‑E‑B care more about getting home early instead of filling customers grocery orders. People work on holidays, get over it. I see no reason curbside could not have stayed open until 12 like the rest of the store. And H‑E‑B could have done so much better at relaying the very early closing hours to customers who did place orders at that time. Walmart has better customer service. This HEB is great. There again in April 2022. I do a shopping spree here every year during my Austin trip. Their selection of "Texacentric" items is utterly insane - TX plants, TX planters, Tex-Mex folk art , HEB cane sugar sodas, Tortilla chips shaped like TX, HEB "hot" salsa, Lone Srar in the bottle, Wagu ground beef and many other items with either TX or HEB badges that are simply fun to bring back to FL and consume. They also have DAILY FRESH SQUEEZED ORANGE, GRAPEFRUIT and OTHER JUICES !!! You can't even find these in FL. Their fresh sushi is at least as good or better than I have experienced at many restaurants. Knowledgeable employees that dispense personal, efficient and professional service. The store is awkwardly organized. And why does anyone need to be able to buy bedazzled jeans at a grocery store? Or anywhere really but that's weird at a grocery store. It's like they are trying to be Walmart. The pharmacy? Just avoid it altogether. The staff is rude. If you ask a question they interrupt and answer what they assume you were asking. It is such a gamble getting curbside/delivery. I've gotten tons of rotten fruit, just about expired foods, missing itemsand really odd substitutions. Toilet paper is not a substitution for paper towels and Dutch chocolate ice cream isn't a similar item to pistachio almond ice cream. They do not enforce masks there. It has lots of stuff. That is about what sums it up. The handicap parking is quite difficult. You can end up walking quite a distance or using a wheelchair. I hate the two way driving in the parking lot. Stop signs and exits are quite stressful. Once inside, things seemed to get better. While there are aisle after aisle of "stuff", I noted that items at my regular HEB were not present and in some cases, just not as fresh looking. No way does it even compare to Central Market unless you are in the shopping mode for paper plates, canned goods and some of the meats. I asked where things were on several occasions and got the 1,000 mile, eye fogged over stare with the I think it may be in ones of these aisles replies. I ended up just buying Kat Fud and then split. It is an OK HEB, but big does not equate to Plus in my humble opinion. read more

The good people at H-E-B are working their tails off during this crazy time with the virus. They are working late in the drive-through pharmacy lines and cleaning and stocking and even helping out in the community by delivering groceries to seniors. I love the quality of their store brands and their staff has been very nice and always smiling even though the store has been crazy busy and packed. I will shop at H-E-B as long as I possibly can! Notorious for out of stocks. Supply chain is no excuse as this problem has been on going since Eve was looking for an apple to eat. Customers with 25 items in express.. while employees chat with each other instead of directing them to another register or teaching them to read limit signs. They've added some additional items like the treaty to go meals and the camping section but otherwise it's no longer the constantly rotating psychological experiment from when it was a brand new store. I really appreciate the fresh produce and variety of products available. This is the first HEB Plus I've ever been to and I really liked it. Such a huge selection of Meal Simple meals, which is what I came in for. They're so good. I got one with potatoes and feta cheese and it was the best one I've had yet. Even had some vegetarian/vegan options. I needed a new toothbrush but didn't really know the store layout yet, so I asked a man stocking the shelves and he was very friendly.
