Since we're not from the South Austin area we wanted to try a dessert spot down there while visiting a friend and he highly recommended La Ola Pop Shop down in Kyle. Luckily for us, his recommendation was spot on as La Ola is a great little ice cream shop with a large variety of different cures to whatever your sweet tooth desires. Parking is pretty accessible as it's in a small strip of stores and restaurants and there's ample outdoor seating as well to take in a nice summer night. The interior of the store is also nice and clean, making you feel like you're in a well run place from the moment you step in. We ordered a banana pudding scoop in a cone and a scoop of the Cookie Monster in a cup. The line here moves pretty quickly which is good so we didn't have to wait long from the moment we entered to the moment we began eating outside. The ice cream was delicious. The banana pudding tastes just as advertised with chunks of Nilla wafer throughout the bites, incredibly spot on. The Cookie Monster also tasted great, essentially a cookies and cream scoop dyed blue, but why not have a bit of fun with it? The whole experience was great and if ice cream isn't your thing they have numerous other options like shakes and ice pops to get you by. The only ding we can think of is that the trash outside was overrunning and looked like it hadn't been changed in hours. Nevertheless, we're very glad we stopped by here to get a sweet treat and would highly recommend it to anyone in the far South Austin/Kyle area looking to cool off on a summer night. read more

I know it's only been a week and I'm supposed to be on a diet, but I had to come back. I'm normally a mint chocolate chip person so I tried the mint Oreo. I didn't expect to like it as much as the bubblegum and my husband was ready to finish it for me. Oh well, he didn't get a chance. We have another winner! What would make this a little better? A few chocolate slivers throughout so I get my crunch. But even without it, I have my second go to! Son in law is stuck on the cookie monster and the rest of the family were not in the mood. We discover this hidden gem today! All I have to say is Wow! They have a huge assortment of flavors and it was delicious!! I had the Oreo and cotton candy. Jeff has the POG sorbet since it was out of the popsicle! The pog tasted just like meadow gold POG from Hawaii! Such a cute store and loved the flavors! I have tried some of my favorite flavors there and well they are now my new favorites They make their own waffle cones I believe and they are quite tasty. This place is DANGEROUS. I could come here every single day without issue. The service was very friendly and patient with each customer as they chose their delectable dessert! They were also super quick, efficient and got through the line fast! We got the cookies and cream paleta, lime and cucumber paleta, and I got the chocolate dipped strawberry paleta. Each one was perfect. Not too sweet, just right. Light and such a perfect treat on a warm day. I actually liked the lime cucumber paleta the best; it was so refreshing and delicious! We got a popsicle/mangonada combo for a reasonable price. The popsicle had cucumber, mango, watermelon, and pineapple (it's called insanity), and it is in fact insanley good and refreshing! And also got a mangonada, which has super fresh mangos and a mango sorbet - highly recommended especially if you like mangos. I think I just found my go-to paleta shop! My in-laws came to visit and we actually were Cabela's and I wanted ice cream. Found this place on yelp, and I was impressed! The shop seems fairly new, layout allows for crowds, there's a cute grass wall to take pictures. Not only do they have paletas, they also have handscoops of ice cream and sherbet. I love how they have unique flavors of paletas and they also sell mangonadas. They also have benches outside so you can enjoy your ice cream while being in the sun.
