This is MY neighborhood HEB and I love it! The selection is incredible! I love their produce, Deli and beer and wine selections! They are just AMAZING! They also make and sell Flaming birds which I love, along with made to order sandwiches and salads and pizzas in their dining area. Parking can be tricky, it's a huge lot and their are two entrances on either side of the building. They also have a really nice nursery department with outdoor furniture and other outdoor chatchkis. They do a fairly good job of managing the lines here, but sometimes at peak times there is a bit of a wait (Saturday or Sunday) Also be careful if you have to come on Monday, I came recently on Labor Day and the stock on the shelves was just obliterated! As always HEB makes sure they have plenty of their name brands available in prime locations instead of your favorite brands that run out quickly. I love this HEB! I drive way out of my way just to come here. From sir healthy living section, to the bakery, to the produce, everything is just a step above the rest and the selections are fantastic. Today I couldn't get over how beautiful the cakes were they had in display! Bagels, muffins, biscotti, breads... Yum yum yum. I love the healthy living section and always fill up on organic rolled oats, couscous, quinoa, walnuts, flax seeds, and red lentils here. I love the options. The only place better than here is Central Market. Parking is always packed, but hey, the exercise is good. Their Stackers sandwiches are delicious and their water vending machine is only $1.25 for a 5 gallon jug. So the money I save on refilling our water jugs offsets what I spend in the gas driving here, riiight? Even if it doesn't, I always have a pleasant and rewarding experience here and in my book that means a lot. read more

Some parts of it are set up/designed like the new HEB on Babcock and Huebner (with the black upright freezers and the produce/bakery/deli area). It's okay, but I prefer the electronic and Texas Backyard specialty areas at the HEBP on Potranco. Those particular areas are larger and offer more - especially Texas Backyard. This weekend, SAPD was on hand to direct some of the traffic and all lines were open with all lines filled to the brim. It was expected. CURSIDE SUCKS!! They're extremely slow and incompetent!! I have waited anywhere from 45 mins to over an hour and a half to pick up my orders from this location only to find out when I get home that some pf my items were missing only because I later found out that they were sending someone else put with the rest of the items which they failed to communicate! This has happened 3 times already! Why do I have to wait 45 minutes to an hour for a partial order then wait another 30 minutes for the last couple of items to come out???! On one hand I love this store, on another I hate it. It's huge but they have a lot of things at good prices. It's like a bulk food store without having to buy in bulk. Excellent produce section and HEB/Central Market brand items are usually of high quality. What I don't like is how busy it always is. We have started doing our shopping at odd hours like late at night. People will go and stand in your way in an aisle and carry on conversations ignoring those that are trying to shop. It just becomes a horrible experience and isn't worth it sometimes, so I'll go to Walmart instead. read more

Despite what's happening with the coronavirus outbreak, this store is remarkably well-stocked with most items, minus wipes and toilet paper (but what's new). They have Dogfish head 90 minute IPA! So far my impression is that this HEB is larger to handle a larger capacity of shoppers while offering a substantially larger selection of food. It's like a larger version of HEB Alon with clothes, gardening, technology items. The two times I've been here, it was not even at half capacity which made shopping pleasant. Check David M.'s review for some more info. I'm not sure what their plans are for the gas station which still resides in front of the old HEB space and is in operation. I do feel sorry for those stores that are next to the now closed HEB, as it's possible they will get less customer traffic. read more

I have been a loyal H-E-B customer for 27 years. Unfortunately, the service and inventory levels have gotten progressively worse. However, my biggest complaint, by far, is the quality of their meats - more specifically - the chicken. It's my understanding that the deterioration began when they changed processing facilities (from Sanderson Farms to Perdue, or so I was told). Most chicken parts now have feathers still attached and hair running along side the edge of the wing portions. Extreme unsanitary conditions and to be candid - it's filthy and time consuming to clean it. In addition, the expiration dates are erroneous. I buy packs of chicken, with expiration dates 3 - 5 days in advance, and they're already spoiled within 2 days. I'm not talking about sporadic occurrences. This is their new normal. Unfortunately, I have switched to Randall's and Whole Foods. I really miss my original H-E-B quality. read more

I literally could not resist going up and down every aisle to make sure I didn't miss a thing. This HEB plus is clean, well lit, spacious, and well stocked. You can find everything you need. There is a huge selection of items from wines to meats. Every section has a bit more than your everyday HEB. The employees seem friendly enough. ***** they have a happy hour in the cafe area... and during this happy hour they serve beer!!!!! So you get beer and pizza at a great price. How AWSOME is that?! The fruits and veggies are plentiful. They have such good choices. The seafood Dept is quite the show as well. The only downside I got from this particular location was the customers tend to be a bit on the unfriendly side. Although this has nothing to do with the business itself and it would be unfair to deduct stars, it is an important part of the shopping experience. So please beware if you are the type that prefers someone say excuse me if they run into you with their shopping cart, or if someone needs to grab something and you are "in the way". ***Beware*** Floral Blooms @ 1604/Bandera needs help!!! I ordered a bridal "cascade" bouquet on Friday to pick-up at 8:30am Sunday morning for bridal portraits and this is what I received. The flowers were wilted and turning brown and was told this was the "best version" of a cascade bouquet due to not having the appropriate equipment "bouquet holder" available to create the requested order. Not to mention I was also told this is what I get for ordering two days prior. Yet I paid $162. This does not look like a $162 cascade bouquet. To make matters worse I inquired if it could be fixed as I was pressed for time in order to make my 10:00am bridal portrait appointment and the florist said it would be an hour before they could assist me. An hour! Not only did this florist make things stressful, she made no attempt to make things right. Curbside pickup service - beware. They used to text or call when they didn't have something or had a replacement - now they just replace and don't call. My situation, they replaced a bulk bag of small chips bags with individual bags of chips, which cost more. After assuring me they wouldn't charge more than the original order, they did anyway. Two other items messed up in the order - replacements, but didn't tell me when I came to pick up. I had to go back to the store and drop off the items they messed up on, even though I called. If there's something different with the order, they should be obligated to inform you and not assume their replacements are sufficient and acceptable. I hate to say this, but Walmarts grocery pickup service provides better customer service. read more

This HEB is normally a great place to go for lunch. But in the eating area ALL the tables are dirty. The cleaning guy came swept one small area by the fountain drinks and walked away. There is food on the floor near the restrooms and 3 managers passed by that spot to use the restroom and they just don't care! Lots of other HEB employees take their brake here and they don't do anything about it or let the cleaning guy know. They just ignore it. What a discrace!!! Clean up. Is it really hard to check on the eating area every hour or 30 minutes at least?!!! read more

Just checked out this HEB Plus for the first time and am so happy we finally checked it out. I love the new location, but got a little lost trying to find it. It's actually behind the old HEB that used to be on 1604/Bandera so it's off the main road, which I really like. The parking lot is GINORMOUS and the actual HEB is huge too, which you don't realize how big it is until you go inside!! Everyone we dealt with was so extremely nice. We were interested in a small patio set and the guy came to ask us if we were interested in anything, he had to go in the back and get the patio, but he didn't grumble once! The entire time he had a smile on his face and he was just genuinely friendly. Plus when my mom and I were done shopping he asked us if we wanted help to our car, it was really sweet! The outside decor is nothing like what I've ever seen before, they had A LOT of "texas-style" furniture, it was really neat! The aisles are large making it for easy shopping, plus it's easy to find where you need to go because there's a HUGE overhang in each department that tells you *PRODUCE* *BABY* *MEAT* *FISH*, etc etc! Plus in every aisle they had a little "cheat guide" if you will where you could see what item you needed and it told you exactly what aisle it was in, I've never seen that before. Plus the alcohol section is amazing. That's one thing I've heard about this particular HEB is that the alcohol section is fabulous, which it is. Loooots and looots of wine and beer. No complaints! They even have clothes here, didn't really look, but it looked pretty affordable. I can only imagine how busy this place may get, I went on a Friday evening and it was pretty busy, so I probably wouldn't check it out on the weekends, especially since it's fairly new. Cheese-and-rice this place is massive. Like, I get that it's the biggest in Texas but you don't realize just how huge it is until you step inside. The produce area is, at the risk of sounding weird, beautiful. However, the real jewels are the booze aisles. Rows and rows of wine I can usually only find at Specs and rows (yes you heard that right, rowS) of beer. They carried everything from boring ol' Miller Lite to my hard-to-find-anywhere Alaskan White. I probably won't make the trip to get my groceries here but I'll be sure to stop by for some specialty items i.e. beer. read more

We moved here from Arizona, previous to that, we came from Tampa, land of Publix, a true grocery haven!!! We went to HEB and was so pleased and happy with HEB! We felt like they are about the customer!! Everyone was so nice to us!! The store itself has all that one can need. Coming from Az, this place SO outshines anything we have seen since Publix! I always see management smiling and guiding their employees to make sure customers are always assisted and happy. We recently started using the delivery service and few months ago and we've had the pleasure of meeting 3 young men that are beyond sweet and respectful. Uriel, James, and Harrison have taken the time to know us and are very personable! Uriel and James have both in their own way either remembered something special (like remembering my visiting Aunt's dog) or taking the time to hear a story (my Dad recently passed and James gave my Mom hug!) Giving this 5 stars solely because they're gluten free selection is huge in comparison to regular HEB's. They also have gluten free bagels which I've discovered are rather challenging to find, so take note if it's been hard to part with the other half of a cream cheese duo. Parking is usually horrendous here, but the product availability is worth it. You'll likely find UTSA students in athletic wear, families on the go, or a heaping amount of plant lovers given the outdoor department. They're freezer section has plenty of products I've seen mainly scattered through the more health conscious side of Austin, so if you're looking to venture into a couple of new items (cauliflower pizza, gluten free pastries, locally made drinks etc), this is definitely the place to dip your toes in while you shop for your other necessities. read more

One of the biggest organic fruit and vegetable sections I've seen in San Antonio even compared to the Alon market HEB. Employees always seem pleasant and there are always several checkouts open - have only had to wait more than 45 seconds or so in line on a Sunday and even then it's not as long as the smaller HEBs I frequent. While I haven't used all of the services this HEB Plus offers, I have been thankful for many of their conveniences (cell phone accessories, extensive floral section with an affordable selection). read more

I hate this HEB. They are always out of stuff. It stinks that you have to park like a mile away (ok not that far, but parking stinks). There is only 2 entrances- seriously??? For this Ginourmous place??? is ginourmous a word??? Even the smaller HEB had 3 entrances/exits. Service used to be excellent - now, you are lucky if you find staff to help you. I hate the fact that they went HUGE and lost all the service they used to have in the older/smaller location. And don't even ask if the meat market can cut a whole chicken in half - they say its against health code - I think it's more like they do not want to provide the service - cause Whole foods & central Market do!!! I LOVE this HEB. I usually always receive help when I have a puzzled face on, hah. I barely have to approach anyone, they usually approach me - which is nice. This is the largest location in San Antonio - and boy is it worth it - one stop shop LADIES! I can pick up my workout gear, a nice scarf at the small boutique, and any type of food item I wish. One thing to prepare for is the parking and the long lines. Get used to it - it's HEB. I find when I go early in the morning it is smooth sailing. read more

Ah, HEB, how I love thee. And how I LOVE this ginormous HEB! Hello, they sell CONSUELA?! We were in town for he night last night and stopped by after eating dinner at Pericos. So, we basically went to this HEB just to go. No real need of any kind, just to walk around and see what all they had. My parents lived in Helotes a few years back so we had been here before, but since then they've opened a boutique inside the store. In addition to Consuela (still can't get over that) they sell Natural Life goods. So awesome. There is also an Auntie Anne's, a pizzeria, a rotisserie, and who knows what else they have and I just didn't see. They only thing that would make this store better is if they sold margaritas. And Whataburger. Where else would you need to go to shop then? read more
