At least we have grocery store choices in Temple, if not a broad variety of restaurants. I find H-E-B to provide almost everything we shop for, except Whiskas cat food. They're big on their own brand, whose quality is pretty good. We haven't been let down by their chicken, burger patties, center cut bacon, bagels, juice, pre-fixed dinners, and bakery items. The only bummer is they seem to tape the incorrect coupons on their promo items (happened a few times discovered at the register). They have a drive-thru pharmacy. This location is frequently busy, but they're conveniently situated right off the freeway, and across Temple's IMAX theater. They're in a shopping plaza shared with Kohl's. And there are several exits so you can find a way to maneuver around the parking lot traffic. Overall, I like 'em. read more

I went to the HEB on S. 31st to specifically buy kale. The bin was empty and I asked a Person that was restocking produce if they were out of it and he picked up a bunch of collard greens and handed to me and I told him that was not kale. He said then that they were out. I asked if they were completely out and he said yes. When I got home I called and talked with a manager and guess what they had kale. I give them a zero rating. read more

Moths, moths, everywhere. If you bought bread, best beware. This is the WORST H-E-B. I live in Austin and have NEVER experienced this situation in any of the many H-E-B locations anywhere else. My family, unfortunately, relies heavily on this location as it is the closest to where they live. Any time you purchase bread, crackers, cake mix, muffins...literally anything that's bread in any way, there will be moths. Not only crawling around in your food, but the worms silked on to the plastic bags of your items. Tonight we sat down to a family dinner and my sister noticed worms crawling off of the bread...an unopened loaf. How this store is still up and running is beyond me because it absolutely needs to be shut down for safety reasons. Disgusting. read more

* - This rating is exclusive to my experience this morning as most of my experiences at H-E-B are incredibly positive. However, this morning was a train wreck. I came to get discounted Valentine's Day stuff because my wife and I are hosting a party tonight for Valentine's Day. Valentines stuff was supposed to be 50% off. It wasn't marked, however the girl working in the aisle told me everything was 50% off but nothing rang up 50% off. I advised the cashier and she said there was nothing she could do. Prior to this I went to the floral department to identify if there was a discount on Valentines Floral. Not a soul could answer and no one could give me an answer. I told them if it is discounted, it is important to me because I'm spending $200 on floral. The lady working said "floral comes in at 8 a.m. and it's 7:10. Don't know what to tell you" I said, "No one can answer this question? So you are sending me to your competition to spend my money when I want to spend it with HEB" "Sorry" was the response. So instead of spending $300 plus at HEB, I walked out spending $23 and now walking into Walmart who apparently cares more about customer satisfaction. Had I not experienced the same thing 30 minutes prior at the Adams HEB I probably would not be so blessed agitated. This has been my single worst HEB experience EVER! um i always assumed buying a ceasar salad from the ready to eat area would include dressing at least and maybe some croutons but that is just too much for this bad whole foods knock off, seriously get it together im out. I added my own dressing in these photos so it came with cheese and lettuce only. I coulnt have eaten this at work if i wanted to. Their prices are cheap but im not sure its worth what youre getting. Also the stockers at night are so rude they will pass by almost hitting us in the isle they almost hit my mom once with their giant forklift. Herbert E. Butts is everywhere I tell ya. All over Central Texas - - San Antonio, S. Austin, Central Austin, N. Austin, Pflugerville, G-town, Belton (?), and Temple. It's all good in the HEB Hood. I like this HEB because it's never too crowded, the lines move pretty quick (at least when I am there) - although I know that may be a timing thing. Their prices are competitive and you're always greeted with that nice hometown friendly Temple attitude. So why not 5 stars? Well, there's some drawbacks here. The Organic / Natural and Asian Foods selections are quite limited, their Deli is smaller, I didn't see a Hot Deli section, and there is no place with tables where you can sit down and eat or drink or rest, just a bench here and there. I asked about it recently - - they told me they used to have one but not any more. Poo-poo. Oh, and I almost forgot, there's always the same sales vendor planted right at the entrance - everyday - selling photography sessions. You know, yearbook and family portraits, stuff like that. Much like the girl who sold "Glamour Shots" in the movie "Napolean Dynamite - - remember her? Yup, just like that, but I have yet to run into Uncle Rico. So you'd think that they would remember you if you've turned them down several times in the past week, right? Oh no, these people are persistant as hell, they really wanna be your Glamour Shot Photographer for life. About 6 months ago, this HEB has undergone a renovation. Comparing it to the new HEB in Belton, this location would be considered just a slight improvement. Still, it's a nicer option for the Temple area than the one on Adams Ave. You occasionally will find some bad fruits or vegetables, but produce is fresh for the most part. A few times, I have purchased food items that were very close to expiring without knowing so be sure to double-check the expiration date. I do find that popular items (such as Chobani yogurt and Coffee-Mate Hazelnut creamer) tend to sell out here a lot, and either don't get replenished or restocked soon enough. I like the addition of the Health Food section. They have a wide assortment of dried fruits, nuts, nut butters, granolas, whey powders, protein bars, etc. Currently, there's a 4/$5 deal on Power Crunch protein bars (normally $2.50/each at Wal-Mart) and they're my fave! Be on the lookout for store coupons that offer discounts and sometimes extra items with purchase. -1 star for not having an International aisle. I have to drive all the way to the HEB Plus in Killeen from Temple to get items such as lumpia wrappers, sinigang mix, pancit noodles, etc. -1 star for my current treatment today of when I had to return two new, unused boxes of hair dye. I felt like I was given a hard time and interrogated even though I had the receipt. As much money as I have spent at this location throughout the years, the Manager made me feel as if I was asking for a loan... *eye roll* read more

Great meat and vegetable sections. The fruit area is very suspect. Often fruits like strawberries or raspberries have to be eaten the same day purchased (after you immediately throw away 1/4 of the container) before they all show signs of rot. But the main downgrade is the horrible customer service. Whereas the Belton HEB features wonderful customer service from the cashiers, it's rare to get a friendly one from the main temple store. From cashiers to stockers to even the vendors in the story. At the Belton store you'll get "hello and thank you" from the cashiers and if a worker (cashier, stocker, vendor) is moving in the ame place as you on an isle they will say "excuse me ma'am" and/or stop and let you go first. But in Temple they will go first - making you, the customer, wait - without a word to you. The rudeness is amazing. read more

Shopping for organic Fuji apples on 8/31/17 10:15am. I found 2 apples that were not bruised, moldy and old (wrinkled skin). I bagged 10 apples that were bruised, moldy and old (wrinkled skins) leaving 2 apples in the bin and gave the 10 apples to the store manager, Bill. He told me they were not expecting new produce due to hurricane. I asked, "does that mean bad produce remain on display?" Bill replied, "we are not expecting new produce due to hurricane." I returned 9/1/17 around 11am to see if more apples may have come in. TO MY SURPRISE, the apples I gave Bill were back in the bin. That is an unacceptable practice! This is my go-to store as it is right next to my place of employment. I have always lived H-E-B . They are also the parent of Central Market- a Mecca for organic, cold pressed, fresh baked and all other things hipster. I wish there was one here. Anyway- this one has a lot of the same items as CM but prices are not crazy. The produce is always awesome here, deli and bakery items never disappoint, and selection is great. The staff here is always helpful and friendly and I can say the place is clean. Great place for quick trip or full on shopping. read more

I'm not particularly fond of this location...I don't live in Temple, but I was in town and did not want to back track to my usual store. This is a SMALL location. I cook with lots of veggies and they didn't have half of the ones on my list. They had a great meat selection, but one (extended) family would not MOVE out of the way. I went to other aisles and came back repeatedly hoping they would park their entourage elsewhere, but they didn't seemed concerned that other people were trying to shop. I have kids and generally do not get the opportunity to do the grocery shopping until their father gets home, which means I'm usually shopping after dark. There were several aisles here that felt very secluded and I honestly didn't feel safe shopping in here alone, which is incredibly unusual for me. I got the sneaking suspicion that I was being followed by a couple and decided to cut my trip short. I doubt I'll be back to this location unless I'm in a group and its hours until nightfall. read more

For Temple this is the best grocery store. It has a huge selection. Not too crowded on most days. They have the best meat and produce! its always fresh and lookes good! Ok, I love my local HEB, the parking here isn't great but I can overlook that for HEB. I brag to my non-Texas friends about how much better my grocery store is so much better than theirs. HEB brand food items are the best, why try to make your own "whatever" if you can get the HEB pre-made item that you cook yourself and it tastes better than you would do--and I'm a pretty good cook. Their selections are numerous. The wine section is amazing. The meat section has everything under the sun. Oh and their in house fresh made sushi is awesome! Did I mention prices, because they beat everyone. You must shop at HEB! read more

I have been shopping H E B 31st Street for 11 years. Recently, they have stopped carrying Grant's Farm Potato Bread and now they are out of Hill Country Fat Free Milk. With all of the retiree's in and around Temple it seems to amaze me as to why. I guess it is time for me to look for another store, where I can be sure my choices are stocked and I can be assured not have to drive all over town looking for my products. Earlier years I had no problem finding what I needed at that store, but for some strange reason they are re-doing their inventory. What a shame!!! read more

The employees are rude especially the curbside employees pulling the the groceries from the shelves. They leave the cart in the middle of the aisle and won't let the customer go by. The employee expects you to go around to the next aisle. When I asked the employee a question, she didn't want to respond to my question. The curbside makes it harder for the people that want to shop at the store harder. read more

I love HEB. They have great customer service, good prices, outstanding employees.... but in Temple you feel like you are in the Alfred Hitchcock movie "The Birds." I know this is not an HEB issue but they could do something to discourage so many birds living on top of the building, sings, power lines and lamp post. When you get out of the car you walk as quick as you can to avoid being "blanked" on. Once you make it inside you think, "are they attacking my car or are they just waiting for me to return?" You get the all the great produce HEB is known for and a few staple items. You then head for the checkout where someone with 27 items is in the 15 items or less lane. In front of them is a person with just three items. You investigate the person that has 27 items, you notice their outfit, lack of taste, their unwillingness to allow you in front of them and you assume they are not Texan. HEB...when people get in the express line with double the items... CHARGE THEM A SERVICE FEE. Stop selling cigarettes. You get in line and people have 15 items or more and they ask for cigarettes. The cashier has to run go and get their smokes. If a store is a pharmacy it should be against the law to sell cigarettes! read more

Following the recent renovations - ie, not improvements, but moving items to different locations in the store, increasing prices, produce not always as good as it was - I shop the Temple HEB on 31st much less and utilize other options more: online shopping (such as Amazon which has fast delivery of staples, especially with Amazon Prime shipping, and often lower prices), WalMart, and may try Aldi. Sale prices differ in the Temple HEBs, from the one in Belton and those in Killeen. I would still be a customer if they had left well enough alone, but refuse to pay more for the inconvenience with little or no actual improvements. They now provide an in-store map, which suggests I'm not the only shopper who is disenchanged with this store. I'll shop where I can find what I need easily, be in and out in a reasonable length of time, and online. read more
