I was expecting to see a stand-alone H-mart and it was but it was shaped like a corner store. We didn't know it at the time but there is parking in the back. We parked on the side by the entrance. The store wasn't as big the other H-marts but their selection was good. Their food was good too! We got some to go for lunch. Galbi bowl: 4/5, it was tasty. Bulgogi bowl: 4/5, it was good and the japchae was reallly good. Pickled spicy radish: 5/5, so good. Musubi: 4/5, it was good. Chocolate croissant: 3/5, it was good. Love this H-Mart! It's definitely one of the smallest, which is one of the reasons I love it! Sometimes I want to stop in, grab some fresh rice noodle sheets (they have them) and be in my way. Until I discovered this H-Mart located in the previous Zupans on SE Belmont, I would drive out to the Tigard location. This store is much closer to where I run errands and go to the gym making it super convenient. And the size means I can run in and out easily. Yesterday I spent a lot of time there perusing the aisles, making mental notes and snapping pictures so I remember what they carry. An aisle jam packed with every possible condiment, soy sauce, chili paste from all over Asia. There is an area dedicated to Thai, Indian, Chinese, Korean, etc. the vast variety of Gochuchang was impressive. Restaurant size containers! Same with that amazing must-need BBQ sauce if you want to make your own flanked style short ribs. Same with the fresh noodle section; every size, shape, cut, ingredient base representing Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, China, Malaysia. And then there is the dry noodle section, and the rice varieties. In the past I would have to stop at 2 or 3 different markets to get what I need. Not anymore! What I loved the most was that H-Mart is a mirror image of an American grocery store. While the American stores are filled with American groceries with a small Asian condiment section, H-Mart is dedicated to products used in Asian countries and has a small Italian section with Ronzoni pasta in all different shapes plus tomatoes, roasted peppers, olive oil and more. And a Hispanic section with tortillas, salsa, beans, chipolte peppers, spices and more. The meat and seafood section is quite impressive, very high quality with prices to match. As always I just love walking down the snack aisle and marveling over the types of chips; who knew Lays made a shrimp flavor? And the cookies and candy. Kit-Kat makes a melon flavor and a matcha in addition to the chocolate. Of course they have a deli section with freshly prepared food - Bibimbap, bowls, ribs, fried chicken, fried spring rolls and more. Even a mine restaurant serving those chewy and delicious rice cakes in spicy sauce (Tteokbokki) and bubble tea and drinks. Everything in the produce area looked fresh and vibrant. The entire store is clean and organized even though there are end-caps piled high with massive bags of rice or sale products. It works. Prices are competitive with the meat and seafood being higher, similar to New Seasons. While this can never be my everything grocery store as I shop at Traders, Whole Foods, Freddie's, Safeway depending on what I'm buying. But for fresh rice noodles, Chinese broccolI, bok choy, Asian condiments and rice, this is where I will shop. read more

Recipe for making an H Mart: Take a Whole Foods, put it in a jar filled with cabbage, radishes, onions, ginger, vinegar and chili powder, bury it and allow it to ferment for several days or weeks. Pretty soon, an H Mart will sprout up from the ground in its place! Okay, I'm being facetious, but I *wish* it worked this way. I would swap out every Whole Foods for an H Mart, if I had my druthers. Easily my second favorite Asian grocery chain (by a razor thin margin) and topped only by Uwajimaya (in my humble opinion), H Mart does *everything* right. Variety, quality, pricing: you name it! Exceptional produce. Exceptional seafood. Gorgeous cuts of meat and fish, fresh or frozen. Sane, sensible prices, considering the superiority of the goods on offer here, even the imported ones. Sure, it's no WinCo or Walmart, but since they (and most other grocers) are so woefully outclassed by the Asian Holy Trinity of Supermarkets (Uwaji's, H Mart and Fubonn), I'm willing to pay *a* premium for *the* premium. Seriously, where else are you going to find multiple "deli" counters serving bento, bibimbap, sushi, fried chicken, bubble tea and shaved ice, all in one place?! And they're all awesome?! Shut the front door! No, wait, open the front door, I want some beef bibimbap! My *only* complaint about H Mart is that (like Uwajimaya) it's not closer to my house. Living in Vancouver, we don't have a big selection of Asian stores. The few stores that we do have are very small so we always head to Portland for Asian groceries. One of my favorite go-to Asian stores is H Mart. This location is usually pretty busy. It's on the corner of a busy street and most people aren't aware, but they do have a parking garage located in the back of the store, which is nice because Belmont is all street parking and it's never easy trying to find an open parking spot on the street. The garage parking is very small and tight though. The store is usually pretty clean and organized and they have a good selection of meat and seafood. They have a very nice selection of wagyu, short ribs, shabu shabu. And they have them fresh and frozen. They also have a bubble tea shop inside the store, as well as a small deli of hot foods. read more

I just absolutely love this place it's in a much easier location than all of the other Asian markets are for me granted granted you are definitely paying a premium for the location. They have a in house bubble tea placed this quite good and keeps a lot of things on tap so that orders go much quicker.. The tapioca balls weren't quite as fresh as I'd normally like but a deployment wasn't anything to complain about me... They have steam buns and other items that look to be made from frozen. They have sushi rolls and all the other items you can believe it's in the old zoo pin the old zupan spots so it's not very huge but it definitely is adequate size for what you need. It's also right next to the nickel arcade abalone movie theater and that's really cool because you can come get interesting candies here to bring there wait wait did I say that please don't tell them I'm sneaking in outside candy... The thing I like most of all about this is that everyone working there is always so finally they're quick on the register and we never have too long to lines backing up in the store. Asian market. Pretty important when I live part time in my diverse hometown San Francisco and the other part in Bend, Oregon where diversity is non-existent. There are no Asian markets in Bend. This means we drive 3 hours to Ranch99 in Portland to buy as much as we need to then drive back home to Bend. While visiting Portland to look for another house I wanted to go to the Asian markets. I wish I didn't choose this one. The majority of shoppers were not Asian. That should have been my clue to leave. I had boorish people reaching for things right by my face on the shelf. Waiting your turn or saying excuse me is pretty basic manners. Don't grab things around me and move my cart. I can't chronicle all the ignorance because it will just anger me again. The cherry on this whole fiasco? The staff are as rude as the customers! The cashier was snarky af. The woman at the food take away counter was a sour faced witch who basically ignored us. It was pretty strange to go somewhere where every single person was SO RUDE! Go to Ranch 99. Spend your hard earned money at an actual Asian market. I absolutely do NOT recommend. I can't say this is my favorite Korean grocery store or even favorite H-Mart. It has some pros and cons but for me, but mostly it was just ok. I am excited there is a closer Korean grocery store option for me. But when I went, there was a lack of inventory, lots of unstocked shelf with merch on the floor and the prices are consistently higher than my favorite Korean store. What they lack in inventory, they definitely have it clean and very bright. They have a pretty decent seafood station and an in-store restaurant with so far, three types of bibimbaps. Maybe they'll expand the menu, it does seem like it caters to the area. They also sell some ready made meals and panchan but most of them were missing when I went around 10 in the morning. Returns are a hassle, they have to fill out this long handwritten form and have you sign it. I will go again maybe in a few months to see if things have improved but I would probably only go here if it was in my neighborhood and I don't want to drive out to Beaverton. I am still excited that Portland got an H-Mart and hope many people will go there. Get some butter honey chips, seaweed wrappers or Peppero sticks. read more

Ugh. Overall I really like this store. Has all the things I need and interesting bowls and etc. This review is for the kimbap/rolls they sell. Haven't had such mushy rice since Costco stopped carrying their terrible sushi. Really gummy, wet, mushy rice. The fillings were alright but the California roll was definitely not California roll. Affordable price but wow that rice. The guy who made it really tried...but couldn't they have provided more instructions on how to cook rice properly? The ratio of rice to water, to clean the rice sufficiently before cooking...when you have an electric rice cooker, how difficult could it be? I say 4 stars for this store. Keep in mind, just like any other store, they are things you buy and don't buy, do the price, so I'm not going to be upset that a box of Kraft Cheese is $3. This H Mart is really great. It is a smaller grocery store, but it is full of fun things. The deli area had a few fun options, and my daughter and I enjoyed some takeout for our ride home. Love this Hmart since they have lots of great weekly deals for you to save on your groceries. They also have a spot for you to get freshly made food and drinks such as sushi, Togo rice bowls/meals, drinks, and fried chicken! They have a decent banchan selection and baked goods as well. Considering the size of this Hmart compared to the bigger ones, I prefer going here since they have everything I need in a small space and they have great prices. Dropped by this H Mart a couple times on the weekdays and was pleasantly surprised by the goods within. Aka hello there is an Indian section? and a Hispanic section?! Wowow. There is a parking garage which is nice though the space is somewhat tight. Park inside, then head in via the side door entrance and you'll find yourself at the banchan/marinated meats and drinks. You got all the faves -- different types of kimchi, bean sprouts, cucumber, etc. In terms of the drinks there are your Korean sodas and of course milkis and coffees. The sections from there on out are well labelled and it is pretty easy to locate everything you need. Things I got so far -- , , , /gochugaru, onion ring chips, vegetable dumplings, and sesame oil. There are a plethora of fresh and frozen noodles, tofus, dairy, and of course produce. The produce was actually in pretty good condition and I can see myself frequenting it. Some of the sections were missing stock but it didn't affect my overall basket too much. The Indian section has a decent array of spices and I was able to snag my turmeric and cloves here. The Hispanic section had refried beans/regular beans, hominy, hot sauce, salsa, etc. The ability to grab my Korean and other asian staples here PLUS have some access to Indian and Hispanic foods is huge. Fun place to visit because of the wide selection of food and drinks from overseas. You will even see kitchenware from Korea and such. There are even skincare items stocked. They sell hot foods, baked goods, kimchi, noodles, sushi, and much more. You easily get lost walking down the aisles looking at everything. The employees there were very friendly. 12/13/20: 4.75 out of 5 - H Mart Belmont is spacious, kept clean, and well stocked. This H Mart carries a great assortment of products, and good prices. Meats are nice cuts, and produce are pretty fresh and clean. There is an underground parking available for H Mart patrons. It's a little tight, but it's better than parking on the street. Overall, H Mart does what is required of them and its patrons to be open during this Covid-19 times. I didn't feel unsafe at all, nor did I feel unwelcomed. I will be coming back for more of my necessities, and other items that I deem essentials. Woah there! How could I have not written a review for this place yet? I mean, I only come here once a week for the last few weeks. I like this place because they are clean, have weekly sales and open late. Did you know, you can view their weekly deals online? Makes it really convenient to see their sales items. I always come here to shop and end up buying things I didn't know I needed. A few things though, there's street parking and then there's garage parking. Just make sure you park where it is clearly marked for "H Mart customer" or something close to that. Credit card minimum is $5.00 - better bring cash if your purchase is $4.99. read more
