It still doesn't hold a candle to either of the Hong Phat superstores on 82nd, but having this little satellite store basically in my own backyard has come to be a blessing over the past few years. The vegetables and produce are cheaper, and higher quality, than most of the larger grocery stores, and having a decent selection of Asian staples, from noodles to sauces, has been a lifesaver, on more than one occasion. Inventory can be a little inconsistent, with certain items that were once stocked disappearing, sometimes never to return. With two massive supermarkets only a few miles away, this "little brother" location feels like a bit of an afterthought in the greater Hong Phat empire, relegated to housing overstock, and catering to only the most basic of needs, but for what it offers, there's really nothing else like it in Parkrose, and the same is true for almost all of NE Portland east of 82nd, other than Lily Market on Halsey. read more

Small Asian neighborhood market, convenient when you need some basic items like fresh produce, noodles, condiments, snacks, meat and fish. Their noodle selection is quite extensive, an entire aisle both sides which is a lot of real estate for this market! There are noodles from many Asian countries covering the spectrum of ingredients, shapes and widths. Rice, mung bean, egg, egg white, vermicelli, pad Thai, chow fun, udon, sweet potato noodles, just to name a few! and of course instant noodles by the case. there are a few types of fresh noodles like Vietnamese udon and Korean ttreokbokki In the produce area, in refrigerator section. Produce is fresh, there are lots of greens and herbs, the kind needed to make salad rolls and to put in pho. The names are written in Vietnamese so I use my Google translater app to make sure I am buying coriander, mint and Thai basil, my favorite herbs for the rolls. The produce area has all the norms: string beans, snap peas, jicama, cucumbers, scallions, lemon grass, mangos, potatoes, dragon fruit, tomatoes, onions, bananas and even huge Dorian fruit. I'm not a fan! When a Dorian is cut open the smell immediately makes me sick, but these are whole and have no scent. They have frozen fish and meat but no hot deli counter or prepared meals like they have at the much larger Hong Phat Center, where I typically shop. I like to pick up papaya salad and char sui (bbq pork) for fried rice So was disappointed that I couldn't get any at the market and had to drive out to 82nd to the Center to get them. They have a good variety of red Chile paste from various countries: Korean gochujang, siracha, sambal oelek, and my fave, the Vietnamese chili oil with Chile crisps, I always stock up when I'm here. Small section of baked breads and bakery treats, most from An Xuyen, the best a Vietnamese bakery in Portland, IMO. Get the macaroon cookies dipped in chocolate or the butter cookies dipped in chocolate. So good! Lots of chips and snacks, the ever popular dried squid and shrimp, and the chocolate marshmallow cookie type treats you find at every Asian market. For a neighborhood market it's great a little of everything. But since it's not in my neighborhood so if I'm taking the ride to the east side, I'd rather go to Hung Phat Center so I can get everything I need in one stop, especially the hot and prepared food. read more

Came here to load up on my favorite Asian foods that you cant get anywhere else, or have to pay small fortune at typical markets like FM or Safeway. Its a small market. One thing that surprised me was the huge selection of frozen meats and seafood. The freezer cases are old school chest freezers. LOTS of them. Yet they didnt have much in the way of things I was looking for like potstickers, humbow, shu-mai, nor my favorite seaweed rolls. I thought the fresh produce section was great and prices reasonable. I thought 'dry goods' were pretty expensive. And believe it or not, although I looked everywhere, no brown rice. Small cramped parking lot. Employees at checkout were great. read more

I finally stopped in Hong Phat as the other Asian grocery store opened late. It's a medium-size grocery store with many different items. I was tempted to pick up items just to try. They have refrigerated and frozen foods, produce, and prepackaged food and seasoned with the latter making up the bulk of the store. Pros: Competitive pricing. I've seen cheaper, but the cheaper store opens later. Friendly employees and great customer service. Great prices on produce. Who needs Albertsons. Are you looking for a seemingly, obscure item? They probably have it here. They carry a bunch of inexpensive flavoring liquids such as pineapple and more. Yay for baking. I believe they have duck. It's reasonably priced. Go get some. My favorite Korean instant type noodles were reasonably priced. Amazon who?? Cons: Rice is sold in bulk with the smallest being 10lbs. It's a great price but I can't store that much rice right now. Go and check it out before you head to a large, chain grocery store!! I love it and I am about to head there as we speak. read more

This is where your favorite SE Asian Cafe buys big bags of rice and other bulk items. They do have a parking lot, and a bus station right outside the doorfor the 73, linking to Red line MAX inn 2 minz. They accept Credit and EBT Cards. Remember to bring sturdy bags and plan time to eatch cookimg vids for interesting foods. ...u may buy a lot! I saw fresh and Frozen Durian.stacked indoors, but it didn't smell too bad. They must have a good air handler. (Eat this treasured dessert outdoors, away from other ppl - or someone may hurl, lol) worth the trip to 101st n Prescott. This market has a nice selection of veggies and it even carries some exotic fruit. If you like jackfruit, dragon fruit, mangosteen, rambutan, lychees, longans, guava and many other tropical fruit that are hard to find, most likely, you would find it here. The meat section is decent sized but I don't like buying that here. They just don't look quite as fresh as other bigger Asian markets. The veggie area is packed with all the familiar Asian vegetables. Prices here are much cheaper than say Fubonn Market. The dried foods are limited. They have your essential sauces but not really some fancy sauces from different regions of Asia. There is a dried tofu meat which I kind of fancy, high in protein and low in carbs. You just need to soak them and stir fry or put them in soup and they kinda taste like the real thing with a little imagination. I go here regularly for my fruit and vegetables. My family and I have been going HP on Prescott since they just open. Everything were awesome even sometime the fresh deli like sandwich wasn't even that great but today it was the worse....came in bought 2 sandwiches, went in the car open the sandwich to get the peppers out and what I discovered pretty nasty. There were 3 thick ass pork fat bellies look funny and smell funny....barely any meats for what you paid. 4.50 for a sandwich is not worth it..... I wouldn't even give a 1 star. I really enjoy this market! It isn't as big as the one on 82nd, but quite honestly, I prefer this one more! My mom has been going to this store for quite some time now. She seems to enjoy it and I enjoy going with her. They have a variety of Asian produce and snacks. I enjoy when they get their shipment of jackfruit in as well. Sometimes when the jackfruit is ripe, they will cut them up and sell them in smaller portions, which is great if you don't want to buy a whole jackfruit. However, if the jackfruit isn't ripe, they will wait on cutting it (as they should), and you would just have to gamble at whether the flesh inside is good or not once ripe. Pricing is less expensive than most Asian stores in Portland. They are having some construction done in the parking area currently, so be mindful of that. It's a pretty solid market with almost everything you'd need to make some asian food. They have a decent amount of baked french/vietnamese goods, and most importantly cured sour pork and beef. I cannot find those things in Chicago. Why for the love of God, why?! It's like I'm living in South Bend, Indiana again where they've got nothing. Also they carry An Xuyen and Lanvin sandwiches and baked goodies here like any other vietnamese grocery store in the city. An Xuyen and Lanvin's banh mi thit is 2.25 here and everywhere else so that's why I cannot bring myself to ever pay 5 bucks for a barely mediocre, hardly acceptable banh mi thit in Chicago. Laughable. I gag when I start recounting vietnamese food in Chicago like Ba Le or Nhu Lan sandwiches. There's lots of fresh meat, seafood and produce here. Butchers on site. I wouldn't go out of my way to shop here though if coming from the northwest side or even more central into the city- there's plenty of options just as good if not better than Hong Phat. We were in the area picking up some fresh live oysters and dungeness crab still trying to claw out of the bag. read more

They don't have a good customer service. I told the clerk about the last 2 mangoes I bought were spoiled. They told me to go back & show them. I did, I have to pick them from the trash. They argue with the customer. They shouldn't treat other Asians with disrespect. I'm Asian but the clerk there treat me like I was born yesterday. She told me I have to eat them within 2 days. I've been buying mangoes for 50 years, I know how to pick them. I know how to buy them. I shop at their store for mangoes every week. The last two mangos I bought, when I cut them the seeds were brown. I've eaten mangoes from there before during the last 3 years I bought from them, that lasted over 8 days, they were yellow not brown, and they're just as sweet, but the last two were spoiled because worms you can't see STARTS FROM THE SEED. That's the reason why the Agriculture won't allow you to bring mangoes with seeds back to USA because of that, but she treat me like I'm dumb! Hong Phat Market just lost a customer! The two clerks I could tell are the ones who are dumb about spoiled mangos! They obviously don't eat enough to know what good or bad mangoes look like when you cut them. This happens to be one of my favorite Asian Markets to shop at. This was the first Hong Phat before they opened a much bigger store on 82nd and Glisan in Portland. This is a smaller store but they have mostly all the a essentials you would need. There are Asian herbs and spices and also all the Sirachi sauce you could want. There is a good variety of vegetables and fruits. As well as a decent meat department. The noodles selection is very vast along with snacks and candy. The workers are friendly enough and the aisle easy to navigate. I like coming here because of the smaller size and you can get in and out fairly quickly. read more

I only come to this one because it is closer to my house. The one on 82nd I had no issues. Long story short this is the THIRD TIME I bought food from here that was EXPIRED. The first time it was the fried tofu I had to bring back , next it was there ground pork , and now there chicken. I am so glad I was able to catch it and bring them back before cooking it. They seem to not bother though when I bring I back , I'm guessing this probably goes on a lot here .. read more

The one star is for their frozen fish, bought 3 different kind of fish at 3 different times and they were just rancid before and when cooked, threw it away. Why three times? I was giving it another three tries and maybe I just had the bad batches. On the other hand the store is all good and pretty much has everything Asian. I'll get my seafood at the more crowded Fubon from now on. TIP: I've noticed that the fish I bought had yellowish oil on it. Assuming it had been in their freezer for a long time thus gives the rancid smell. Check this sign before buying it. Environment leaves a bit to be desired, but the prices are amazing and most the product is very fresh. It's a go-to shop for our asian groceries. As far as I'm aware, my mom's friends shop here too. (They also have great Jackfruit deals during the summer.) read more

I love this market. Such a good prices on produce and other groceries. Also very hard working and friendly staff. This market has come a long way; when I was growing up it used to be a thriftway then it went out of business and was empty for years until someone very awesome bought it and opened Hong Phat. I remember the first couple years that it was first there and it seemed a little run-down but they have kept improving the store day by day. I really love seeing the changes it has made (all positive changes). I'm only sad because I have moved to the east coast and there is no market around here like Hong Phat, and I have looked. read more

I go to Hong Phat Market when I'm too lazy to drive any closer to the other markets, and while small, it's got decent stuff. I don't trust the fruit and most of the produce (the bok choy has never steered me wrong), but I would go for some canned stuff and their huge selection of meats and seafood. Excellent oriental market! Wonderful produce, very fresh and inexpensive. They also have a nice selection, with a number of exotics like rambutan, and a lot of tropical fruits that are hard to find elsewhere. They have a good selection of fresh meats that are quite reasonable and a large selection of frozen seafood. They just opened a coffee shop inside with smooties and some of the best coffee I've ever tasted. Definitely my go to store! read more

This place is alright. They're good for necessities like sauces and canned goods, but the produce is hit and miss. Sometimes they're great, sometimes they are horrible. I've never had a problem with the meat and seafood either. The meats are actually pretty good here. The pork belly is always good and i like getting the spareribs here, because they're already cut. This place is close to home and prices are good. Staff has always been friendly and helpful. Not the best, not the worst, so I guess no complaints here. read more

Although this market isn't the largest asian market in town, Hong Phat does a good job of being pretty well stocked with the essentials. I usually come here for the fresh produce and the selection is pretty vast. On any given visit I can find anything from dragonfruit to mangosteen to jackfruit. The service is pretty friendly and they can usually point me toward the correct section if I get lost. Also the ladies at the checkstand are always willing to give me tips on a better dessert selection than the one I already have and usually they're spot on! read more

This place is great. I really needed to get my Pho lunch setup for work (bowl/spoon/hoisen sauce/black bean chili sauce), and they had everything I needed. It is kinda crazy seeing EVERYTHING in the produce section swimming in a sea of Styrofoam trays, but I guess that was the status quo about 20 years ago for most of the USA. Everything is really cheap, and I intend on coming here for all my asian style dishes from now on. The selection rivals the market at FuBonn and is much closer to my house. read more

I really like this place. It's older and not as pretty as the other asian markets, but they have a wonderful selection of produce, meats and asian goods for an awesome price. I haven't found a cheaper asian market. It's a little further away from me, but if I expect to go all out grocery shopping I'll make the trip. It's worth it. read more

The place is convenient and prices are generally okay though some traditional Vietnamese items in their stall in the left corner are a lot more expensive than at other markets like Fubonn or Pacific market. One big down thing is that the workers here are very rude, and care less about customers treating them like trash. I guess they can do that when customers are plenty here. read more

I would give no stars if I could. This is a review of the new market on 82nd. I have not been to the other. $9 jars of peanut butter. $8 gallons of ice cream. We were excited to have a new market in the area again after the Safeway closed but it seems they are taking advantage of being the only market around and acting like crooks. Many of the items are organic but the prices are inexcusable. I will not be visiting again, which is a shame as I only live two blocks away and now still have to shop at Walgreens or take the bus all the way to Fred Meyer. Very disappointed and would love an explanation from their manager or whoever does their ordering. read more

Good prices, generally clean store. The produce selection is great but sometimes stale. Pull dates on meat here are unrealistic... have bought chicken one day to have it go bad the next, with a pull date two weeks (!) away. When they are busy, you had better be Vietnamese, unless you are willing to put up with other customers cutting you off in checkout lines while the store staff encourage them to do so. Try the Fubonn instead. read more
