Let me say I'm of two minds about Hong Phat: As an Asian Supermarket (and I've shopped at plenty), it's a bit underwhelming in terms of organization and product selection. I expected a lot more diversity of products, in such an expansive space. I enjoy a lot of powdered drinks (Vietnamese Coffee, Thai Tea, etc). I've been to much, much smaller stores with a lot more selection from Asia... and they were completely out of Thai Basil when I went... low on cilantro, too. Plenty of Culantro, if I was willing to substitute. Their pricing is cheaper than H-Mart and some of the other Asian markets in the area. However, the true value here, which cannot be denied is the $5 Bahn Mi with iced Vietnamese coffee... Were I them, I would probably just run a value Bahn Mi shop, with lines back to Pioneer Station. So far, I've had the sausage /pork patty version and the Dac Biet. The pork patty is far superior to the Ham + Head Cheese version for my taste. It seems that most of the people in the area do NOT include pate on any of their sandwiches... I understand that is traditional, and in Orlando... pretty much ubiquitous. It makes little difference, as the value is excellent. The iced coffee is the star here... I noticed a bit of a mocha flavor when I had it the first time, but put it down to my lack of familiarity with Vietnamese coffee. The second time, I definitely tasted the addition of Hershey's Syrup. Absolutely worth a trip for lunch, and if you aren't looking a ton of variety, a pretty decent place for sauces and soup bases. read more

A "complete" Asian food shopping experience. Fresh, packaged, a deli, and a couple of retail storefronts, all in a repurposed Walmart location. Aside from the fact that there's so much offered here that I can never remember where stuff is, and my cultural confusion of not being aware of what the signs are pointing to - sometimes I don't really know what I'm looking for - for the most part, I've found what I'm looking for when i come in. Big store with so many fun snack and drink options to try! My favorite is their To-Go Banh Mi near the front. 5$ gets you a banh mi the size of your forearm and a drink of your choice! I've tried their beef and their grilled chicken sandwiches, both were super good although i liked the beef a little more. Along with the sandwiches I've tried a vietnamese coffee (out of this world delicious) and a coconut juice with jellies (has a citrusy flavor as well)! Not a fan of This store is WAY too big, and for no reason. They took over the Walmart space, and easily could have dived this into 3 or 4 really large stores. No one needs a Costco sized Asian Market with most of the space empty. The Hong Phat location on SE 82nd and Dicision is one of my favorite markets. For that reason, I decided to check out their new Supercenter that they opened a year ago. The Deli and hot food section paled in comparison. It's so small and has few offerings other than freshly made bean me sandwiches. I bought some Chinese BBQ pork from the deli area to make fried rice and it was dry and overcooked. There is a massive aisle dedicated to just soy sauce. Similar with noodles. Snacks. etc. To gather your grocery items, you have to walk and walk and walk and then search each aisle. No thanks. This was a one and one for me. When I need to stock up on Asian pantry items or I'm craving papaya salad, I'll go to the OG. read more

I tried grilled beef banh mi with coffee drink this time. The coffee was strong with a lot of ice. I made sure I let the uce melt before drinking too much. The grilled beef was not really grilled. It was more like a beef patty. This patty was not red in color which I prefer. Next time I will try the grilled chicken and pork belly. read more

Reminder there is no other customers checking out, and it's 7PM, 2 hours before the closing time. I live all the way in Beaverton and love going to Hong Phat. But after this I think I would rather do my business somewhere else than with rude workers like that. Customer service there has become worse and worse. Very disappointed I have always gone there as a little kid with my family to now even as a young adult and have never met a worker so rude! So damn trẻ trâu!! We are going to check out and there is no other customers yet, but 3 check out lanes open. We go to one of them and the girl there was obnoxiously rude and giving a lot of attitude to us. We had under 10 items, they were all relatively small and not too heavy. This girl starts to walk and grab a box without asking us if we want a box first, then proceeds to throw it onto the packing area. We ask and tell her that we want a paper bag, the she rolls her eyes at us and throws the box away with a lot of attitude. Mind you she still hasn't said a word to us or asking for any clarification for what we want. She just keeps talking to her coworkers and working extra slow, then asks my girlfriend in Vietnamese to move the heavier stuff to the front of the items for her. I don't understand a lot of Vietnamese, but if I knew I would've stood up for my girlfriend right there! After hearing what she asked my girlfriend once we got in the car I was so pissed off. Are we the ones working or is she the one working? What's the point of having the conveyer belt to move the items closer to you if you're not going to use it? Every damn second do you need to pause and talk to your coworkers? read more

I love this place! I wish I knew how to read what everything is, but I come explore here and there are some things that I buy regularly. I come here for beef neck bones, beef bones and beef brisket for soups, best prices out of all if the asian markets in town. I also come her for a lot of my fresh veggies, especially the kabocha squash which is available year round and not just in the fall. Mochi, sponge cakes, egg rolls, tofu, drinks. It's such a great market. I do usually go to the smaller Hong Phat closer to my house, but today I went to this supercenter one. It's bigger but looked like some parts were empty. But the best part of coming here is the cooked food. I buy vietnames salad rolls with peanut sauce or get their special of a Banh Mi Bbq Pork sandwhich with a drink. Today I had it with the vietnamese coffee that was amazing!! Best deal in town, so good I don'tveven want to dhare the prices because it seems like every time I rave about finding a place with decent prices and I share a review, then somehow the prices go up. A former Walmart on 82nd feels like an Ikea store disguised as a grocery store. I have been here only once before and was so overwhelmed with the variety of product, I left pretty much empty handed. Not this time. I took a friend who loves Asian markets and we literally walked down every aisle and I swear, we were there all afternoon. She had a grocery cart filled with candy as well as a gorgeous lamp for her living room. The pricing is fantastic on fresh produce and packaged goods that you can't find at other stores. I have a smaller version of the store by my house in Tigard, see attached photo, it doesn't even compare to this location. When I return to SE, I'll make sure I haven't had lunch because I really wanted to try the $5 Banh mi sandwich/drink special available at the front of the store. read more

Surprisingly, I visit this store so much more often than the original HP. I'm practically come here once a week for groceries and to check out if there are anything on sale. I either find myself getting the $0.99 honeycrisp apples, or the 5 for $1 limes, guava at $1.99/lb or other fruits. Price changes regularly, so here today, gone tomorrow. Recently, they have big cardboard boxes full of logan for $4.99/lb. No they are not prepacked, they are just spread out, you pick what you want and bag them up yourself. hehe, I was able to sample a few before purchasing; I mean, I really only want them if they're juicy and sweet. It's a good place to shop for sure, but still a bit confusing where things are located. I definitely have to walk up and down the place to look for certain things (the signs are not super helpful), but they do have a little bit of everything. Everything from fruits, veggie, boxed up food (ready to heat and eat), ready to go desserts and some non Asian snack, etc. Prices are reasonable. I don't have much interaction with the staff there until I checkout. They take cash or card, apple/google pay. Lots of parking in this old Walmart space. read more

It's a warehouse-sized hunt for Southeast Asian essentials! I've shopped here twice now since it opened while exploring more Southeast Asian grocery options in the PDX area. Each visit left me with a few solid finds and a few "once was enough" moments. The fresh jackfruit is a standout: $1/lb unpeeled, or $6/lb for peeled with seeds. It's great to have both options, depending on your level of jackfruit commitment. I also picked up a few brands of instant porridge and glass noodles from Vietnam: mixed results. About a 50/50 success rate, so choose wisely or be ready to experiment. I loved the Mama brand from Thailand while I visited it last summer. I haven't found the same products from Mama brand at any stores since I came back to the states. The store itself is massive because it was the former super Walmart, but much of the space now is used for storage, giving it more of a wholesale/warehouse vibe than a fully stocked supermarket feel. It's not the kind of place you wander through for inspiration. It's more of a hunt-and-haul experience. As for the deli section, it looked sparse and not especially inviting. I haven't tried anything from it yet, and honestly, nothing there convinced me to change that. Overall, Hồng Phát is a practical stop if you're on a mission for specific Southeast Asian staples or want jackfruit without the markup. At night at parking lot facing the front of the time, there a "weird" since I can't call them criminals just yet, stalk single females coming in and out of the store. This place is Asian's heaven on earth!!! We didn't spend as much as I would have wanted, but it was still a treat. I'll update my review when I go back and spend at least 1.5 to 2 hours. Prices: They reasonable plus you won't be able to find a lot of their inventory in any other store except H-Mart and Uwajimaya maybe. Inventory: We went there to buy mainly Filipino veggies, so it was a success! We bought upo (gourd), ampalaya (bitter melon), Puso ng saging (banana flower), green papaya, okra, kangkong (water spinach), saluyot (jute leaves) or what I call the cousin of okra because it's slimy. We also bought a sack of Jasmine rice, and Filipino snacks - Nagaraya and Boy Bawang. The Space: It used to be Walmart, so this place is probably the biggest Asian store in Portland, and also in Oregon state. I just did quick walk and pics of the aisles, so you can see their inventory. As you can see, there are aisles and aisles of items. Food Court: They have a small area for cooked food. This place is huge and has good prices compared to fancier Asian markets. The best part, the place is very clean, especially for a "real" asian store. The deli is the second best , then the selection. lol The checkers are nice, but the lack of people in the floor is tough when you have a question. Compared with the older and smaller Hong Phat on the same SE 82nd Street, this newer " super center" is a JOKE. The entire store smells like rotten meat which were clumsily treated with chemicals, definitely a big turn off for a food store. The freezers are empty. The space is overwhelming but the contents is underwhelming. I like the older Hong Phat on SE 82nd and SE Burnside much better. It has excellent tropical fruits selection. read more

More interesting than the Walmart that preceded it could have ever hoped to be, this brand-spanking-new Hong Phat Supercenter is something to behold. While it is still coming online and filling out with new features and tenants, the place is absolutely sprawling, and filled with more variety of imported goods than I have seen anywhere else, outside of Uwajimaya in Beaverton. The produce here, like all Hong Phats, is larger, better quality, and cheaper than any commercial chain grocer such as WinCo, Safeway, or Fred Meyer. Just about any ingredient, sauce, or spice you can imagine (and more than a few you can't!) is readily available here, if you know where to look; some items are squirreled away in places that aren't immediately intuitive, but as you are likely to spend quite a while exploring this place, you'll find it eventually, if you are patient. I have read that this flagship Hong Phat is meant to eventually host restaurants, a more populated Food Court than it is currently, as well as specialty retailers and services, much like the mini-mall surrounding Fuboon, a little further north, in between this Hong Phat and the other big one, near Stark Street. While that is a vision as yet unrealized, you can see that the wheels are turning to make this a grocery store experience unlike any other in the Portland-Metro. It's not there yet, but I have high hopes that it will be, in the near future. read more

This review is more for the one food court restaurant at the store's entrance than for the enormous supermarket (probably the biggest Asian grocery store on the west coast). There ain't much ambiance nor too many tables for dining since you're basically at the front area of a former Walmart. The staff are fast & friendly. The menu is limited but very affordable. And there's a constant stream of customers, mostly stopping for takeout. Imagine lots of fresh & cooked deli counter items, but all Asian themed. Viet salad rolls, roasted sweet & spicy chicken, bbq pork over rice, and the ever present banh mi sandwich. Plus at least 8 different cold Asian-type drinks (e.g., thai iced tea, fruit juices). We had the $5 special consisting of a banh mi sandwich (8 inches?) + drink. Pretty average tasting but a great value. The roast whole chicken @ $7.50 looked very tempting. All items are displayed but I wish there were a printed menu so choices (e.g., types of meat) and prices were clearly marked (nothing really to hide since all items appeared to be a great value). read more

Runs the gamut of cookware, dishes to typical Asian cuisines, with a fab Indian Spice section that'll save a trip to Hillsboro including the more obscure spices,The European aisles have the best candy section for a Brit expat, Mars, Smarties, Kit Kat and for true Eastern Euros there's quite the legit smoked sausage and beer to make any night merry and bright! At front, a Viet jewelry store + small deli serving $5 Viet Sammie's, all pre-packed, noodle bowls and desserts to grab+go, no need for service person. Great new Asian store in the area. Lots of selection for various different seafoods and shelf staples. We took home a bag of goodies and we were gifted a free bottle of hot sauce just for shopping. The deli on the way out is amazing! $5 for a sandwich and drink!! Are you kidding me!! They even have hot food this varies on what they are cooking at the moment, but we have been treated with $5 shrimp fried rice and $7 noodle dishes. The food alone is worth the visit. This new addition to the Hong Phat empire is located in the former Walmart that closed because Portland let crime spiral unabated. About 15% of the store is allocated to back room inventory. We'll give 'em a break as they just opened: there was no overhead signage in the aisles and the overall experience was a bit chaotic when we visited. It's the third large Asian store in the immediate area, and about the seventh in a slightly larger radius. They don't offer anything unique so far, but time will tell. Omg this market was absolutely amazing. My adhd was unhinged! I didn't even know where to start. Huge food court, tons of fresh produce, meats, frozen foods, etc. They even have a bulk section. They are still stalking items so there was some empty space and you can tell the food court area wasn't fully running just yet, but my guess is in the coming months when it's in full swing it's gonna be so so good!! I regret that I will not be shopping at Hong Phat any more. Every time I go there the parking lot is littered with more trash than before. I just don't feel confident buying food there if the maintenance of the place is so poor. There are other Asian markets nearby who keep the place clean and in order and I will be shopping there instead. I was in love with Hong Phat, but the romance is over. read more

Well it certainly is a super center of Asian grocery offering! The "Food Court" and deli are pretty minimal but do have some things. I bought a package of Char Siu Pork and although not bad, it wasn't the authentic we are used to. The produce section is quite large. As for meats and seafood the selection is extensive but it is 99% frozen. It is a wonderful addition to the community. read more

Huge selection of Asian foods but a bit disorganized. This warehouse is so massive it honestly feels a bit disorientating trying to find the specific item you are looking for. For ex. As I was wandering the massive produce section, I stumbled upon three separate bins of orange dispersed throughout, so it almost feels like I'm scavenging for food when trying to shop. There's at least 4 aisles of snacks and two massive fridges of drinks, as well as a massive ready to eat dessert section as well, so if ur looking for something new to try this could be the place for you. But for staples that I normally get, I'd go to a smaller market just for convenience. There's also an office space, food court, and beauty supply store in the supercenter, and the right side of the supercenter is used as storage. I also tried out the food court and it was disappointing. There's only one store in the food court, which I will say sells a variety of Vietnamese food and drink, but with a title of food court I was expecting at least 3 different restaurants/stores selling food. They had ready to eat meals, drinks and even chopped fruit. Unfortunately, when we came at 1pm, the chicken and rice dish that we wanted as well as the Thai tea was already sold out. I love this market. It gives you so much variety. It's a very big Asian market and it caters to restaurants and the Home cook. It's very big and you have to look at everything so it may take a long time to get around, but I guarantee you'll find everything you want. This market is amazing and the produce is fresh and they have meats from everywhere you want. They also have a deli that's amazing and things you wouldn't think you need is there it's a great market. Food court is pitiful and doesn't have pricing. Sad wok selection. The ladies in the little makeup store didn't know what TirTir was but everything in there is advertised as Korean. (It's the #1 foundation in Japan made in Korea and it's super popular in the U.S.) Place was crawling with cops because they lack real security.
