Hands down, 5 STARS! We just spent this past Weekend camping & rafting with H20 Adventures and honestly one of the most memorable experiences my husband and I have had. We were invited along by some friends who happen go every summer and this year managed to round up right around 30 people to join in on the fun. The H20 adventure group campsite area sits right at the river's edge with plenty of trees and shade. It's actually a beautiful little piece of property and feels so serene. The showers, which were free by the way, (as in no coins needed) also have hot water. If you are a frequent camper, then you know hot water is absolutely an added luxury. We brought our own tent, but there where "Glamping" style tent/cabanas available to Rent as well and a little outdoor community kitchen set up available for campers use too. On our day of rafting we did the south fork, 21 mile trip. I believe they have a half day trip available as well. We did have a lot of children in the group and that specific trek was the family friendly option. I will say, that knowing it was kid friendly I mentally had envisioned it to be a bit more calm and thought it would be more equivalent to floating then white water rafting but I was pleasantly surprised at the level 3 rapids we tackled and how fast paced parts of the rover actually where. We had a couple man overboard moments (totally ok, and expected so don't panic) and then a few calmer sections where we would occasionally fall out of the raft intentionally to enjoy the water a bit. For the group of 7 of us that were on a raft together, we had Brandon as our guide. We freak'n LOVED him! He is exactly the person that belongs out there doing this job. He made sure we all got the most out of our experience and when we weren't paddling and crushing through rapids, we were all cracking up and just having the best time ever. It's actually fascinating how well these guides know ever turn, twist and rock on the river. There were quite a few other rafting company's out on the water and from my personal observation, it appeared that the people on those rafts were not Having even half of the fun that we were. Watching how clean ALL the H2O Adventure rafts Navigated through some of the trickier rapids in comparison to the others rafting tours on the water Saturday, It was actually very telling and clear to us the that we were absolutely in the best and most experience hands on the south fork as we possibly could be. Our large group was divide up onto 4 different rafts total and literally every single guide was Just so friendly, fun, knowledgeable and experienced. We personally enjoyed the the friendly banter, rivalry & sneak up attacks the guides had going with each other and with any of us that chose to participate in the shenanigans :) About halfway down our 21 mile trip, landed us back at the campsite where H2O Adventures provided lunch for all of their rafters. It was nice to sit and enjoy lunch & get a bathroom break before loading back up on the rafts. I think in whole, our day on the river went from about 9am- 4pm. We absolutely can not wait to go back again. If this is something you are considering doing, Take the family and go! You will not regret it. Biggest piece of advice I can give you would be to make sure you don't book with any other company but H2O Adventures. Once you are on the water you will see exactly what I'm talking about with the other companies just not even coming close to receiving the same experience. I highly recommend this if you're looking for looking to whitewater raft! This was very easy to book and even when we added more people, they were accommodating. Make sure your group signs the waiver online or sign & bring the paper! We arrived following the directions and it was easy to find. Parking lot is the first turn on the right in the front and they were already there expecting us. We did class 2/3, half day, on the south fork. If you're a beginner like me, this was not difficult and fun at the same time! Our tour guide, Ben, was very experienced and I felt safe with his guidance. We had a large group and we split up into 2 rafts but we stayed near each other the whole way down! They provide PFDs and helmets, come prepared with a lot of sunscreen, some snacks, and water! Water shoes or shoes with straps are recommended. They have a small lock box for any valuables such as keys and phones. I would also recommend bringing a change of clothes. Our raft didn't flip but keep in mind that there is that possibility! They gave opportunities to go in for a swim at some areas. Awesome , we had James as our guide and he was full of knowledge. We did a 1/2 day and it did not include lunch, but they did give us brownies that were delicious at the end. The ride was exciting and adrenaline pumping, our raft did flip, but the other boats were there to save us since they roll together I'm assuming just for this purpose. We had an amazing trip with H2O and would highly recommend them to friends. I spoke to Tyler on the phone and he was patient answering all my questions. On the day of the trip, Jeremy started and ended the trip with us, and he was funny. My group was put into 2 boats and we love our guides Cassidy and Blair. Cassidy on my boat was very friendly, and she shared with us plenty of detailed knowledge about the river and the rapids. We love seeing another guide Keegan who jumped up and down in his boat and was always full of energy. You could feel how they much enjoyed being rafting guides. H2O is one of the smaller operations but they made sure customers all had a great experience. We took the South Fork American River full-day trip (Class II-III). I was a little nervous that it would not be exciting enough for our 5 first-time rafters ages 16 to 21. Turned out it was just fine. What a great experience! Every employee we came into contact with was truly enthusiastic and sincerely cared that our experience was memorable. Our raft guide Ethan was such a pleasure! He motivated us to have fun outside of our comfort zone but was not pushy. As first timers We were so comfortable with him. With his 40 years of experience we felt very confident under his lead. He was so fun and positive. I personally enjoyed how he spoke so positively about each and every one of his coworkers. Hi there! First time rafters here so I have nothing to compare but my own experience and I can tell you I will definitely be back! Tomorrow if I could! I wanted to be treated like it's a personal smaller operation and not a huge Amazon size company .. I wanted the individual attention because I had such a fear of white water rafting.. I've been a surfer since a child, huge waves in Hawaii , no fear, I scuba dive beyond 100 ft., sharks and all, no fear .. I'm an excellent swimmer but don't know rapids and rivers... I am so Impressed with Devyn,our guide and the H2O company... Fiona the lady who signed us up was so nice and we felt very well taken care of. The American river trip was magical! I felt very safe and we were taught so much about rafting.. so know Devyn did most of the work and he worked so hard . We did the half day and wished we had done a full day! I'm ready for more and we def will be back with H2O, no question . If I could offer 1 criticism if I must , I know Devyn was so nice and encouraging to everyone, but it is a learning experience and I think there was a missed opportunity on board they would have helped us all . There was 1 young man , not a kid and not disabled that was simply not oaring. He would barely dip his paddle in and was totally off rhythm and he was in the front, a power position ... he made barely an effort and there was only 4 of us in the raft . Maybe he just didn't get it ..and it may have been helpful to show him how to row... if he then continued to not row and help out... toss him overboard ! JK read more

Wanted to go whitewater rafting again since kids have grown (11yrs old now). There was no doubt I was going to schedule with H2O again. We decided to do a longer trip this time - all day 13 mile trip of the South Fork. Like our first time, H2O did not disappoint. A SUPER fun day was had by all in our 8 person raft party!!! Our guide was Dave from Coloma. He was super knowledgeable and safe on guiding us through some great class III rapids and also did some other fun stunts (riding wave, leaning on rock, jumping off rocks, etc)! One of my two boys did fall off the raft (which was a little scary for me) but he knew how to keep us calm and get him back on board with no problem whatsoever. The only thing our family would do differently next time would be to skip out on the all day 13 mile and instead do the half day or challenge ourselves and do the Middle Fork. Our friends who had never been whitewater rafting thought the 13 miles was good for them because the first 3 miles which were only class I & II rapids prepared them for the rest of the trip. I have gone rafting a dozen times over the past ten years on the American River with a variety of companies and I am very impressed with H2O. They place extra focus on safety which is crucial to me. They spend the extra resources and money to have safety boats traveling along side you. (Not all companies do this.) They have better quality and newer equipment than many of the other companies I've used. They provide extras on their lunch deli sandwiches such as fresh fruit and avocado in addition to the common standards of meats, cheeses, vegetables, and chips. The owner, Tyler, is very involved and hands on and clearly cares about the quality of experience each of his customers receive. This trip was a Mother's Day surprise for me, which I have to admit, left me a bit concerned as I like to be mentally prepared for such adventures. Ethan (our guide) sensed this and remained upbeat in his attitude, highlighting the positive journey we were about to embark. Steve, our second guide, was awesome as well. Both detailed our trip, from water temp, to fun facts, to distance traveled. They were experienced, knowledgeable, and truly vested in us having a great time. Suffice it to say, they quickly snapped me out of my worries! Bottom line, I always felt safe with Ethan and Steve and knew that if anything happened, they would be right there in a heartbeat. And they were ... at one point, I fell off the raft and began to float a few feet. Within a second, Steve (who was on the second raft ahead of us for such instances), was right there and I was pulled out of the water quickly. They're a great team - ask for them by name! This excursion is fantastic and adventurous! The company genuinely cares about their customers and overall satisfaction. Worth every penny spent! These folks are amazing. We were a private boater trying to make our way back to raft take out, but the lake level is very high. So that meant for a long 2 mile paddle back in 100+ degree weather. Many other jet skiers passed us by. H2O Adventures offered to tow us back, and even refused any tip/ money that we offered. It's great to know that there are kind people on the river! I was looking for a white river rafting adventure for 2 on groupon and I was denied by 3 other river rafting companies. When I called h2o adventure I was greeted by Fiona on the phone and she was more than thrilled to accept a group of 2 because they were a very adventurous group that loved getting out there in the river. She also mentioned that the groupon deal was more expensive than their own company deal which was nice so I booked it with them. Morning of the river rafting adventure I called to make sure that I was in the right location and Fiona called right back when I was about to leave a message saying she and her team were on the way! We LOVED doing the South Fork 1/2 Day Lower Gorge Run with Steve. H2O Adventures was one of the better priced rafting companies that we found and they made every step of the process super smooth and easy. We felt very safe with Steve as our guide. He was funny and really matched our group energy. He encouraged us to swim in the swimmable areas and made sure we had fun on the rapids. Near the end, we also got to climb on a cliff and dive off of it. Overall, the scenery was beautiful and the hot weather was very much appreciated with the chilly water. To say our trip was off the charts amazing would be an understatement. The entire staff is so well organized and safety conscientious. Our guides Lexi and Trevor were so well versed on the different rapids and how to approach, read the rapids, work together and work through each rapid. We felt safe and literally had the time of our lives. The best part was when they took a potential issue when my 81 year old father went over and Trevor and Lexi traversed the boats upstream to go and get him back in the boat. Mind you he is close to 285lbs and Lexi is about as big around as my pinkie. She and Trevor kept us all calm, paddling upstream and once everyone was safe they triaged the situation and kept the mood light and fun. We couldn't have asked for a better experience and will absolutely make this an annual trip. They are also fantastic at adapting rafting to meet the needs of the rafters. My youngest is blind but had a major blast! Trevor made sure he was in a safe spot where he could instruct him and intervene if needed. All and all the entire staff was accommodating, fun and thoughtful. You even get homemade brownies and ice water on the drive back. The day could not have been any better. Last Saturday (8/7/21) was our second time booking with H2O Adventures, and it was the second time we had Ben & Devin as our guides! Last time we happened to get Ben & Devin by luck, this time we asked for them by name! We have used other rafting companies in the past, but I can say, HANDS DOWN, H2O Adventures is the very best we have booked with, and Ben & Devin are two of the very best guides we have EVER had the pleasure of rafting with! We feel Ben & Devin are the Gold Standard when talking about rafting guides! Not only do they know what they are doing, but Ben remembered all our names from our last trip...very impressive!! None of this would be expected midway down the river! The second trip, just this last Saturday, we invited our wives. They had never been rafting, and they were all very nervous before the trip. We went down the South fork of the American River this time. Ben & Devin did a great job putting all their fears at ease, and the girls all had an amazing time!! They loved the trip, and they really loved Ben & Devin! Lunch on this day consisted of burgers, chips, juices, waters, mixed fruit, and Milano cookies...awesome!! He was the most knowledgeable, friendly, and experienced guide we have ever rafted with. Fresh brownies at the end were awesome. If you are camping here, there is not much tent privacy as it is just one open area for everyone to set up.. on busy weekends, expect to be packed in with lots of kids runnin around. Kitchen area was a dream to have on a camping trip, full grills, tables, and dishwashing station. Bathrooms were a bit outdated but nice flushing toilets and hot showers. We went to South Fork American river for rifting last Sunday, July 24th. It was my second experience with H2O and just the first time for some of us. Fortunately we had one of the best guides they have. Steve, who has 14+ years experience of rafting and also the team leader, took good care of our group. He guided us to those exciting area, explained questions alone the river, and most importantly, none of us fell off from the boat under his instructions. The most excited moment (for us) was rescuing two people who fell into the river during the beginning and the middle of the trip. It was my first time that saving people from other boats. Thanks for Steve's precise orders, it was a big moment for us. We highly recommend this company, and of course, Steve for everyone who are interested in do rafting.
