Moreover, I thought driving through Downtown Woodland would be the scenic route since, I never drove through the Business District. Surprisingly, I really thought Woodland CA would be a city as historically quaint as Virginia City, Nevada but, Woodland doesn't possess too many old buildings per city block. My POV: Woodland, California is a quaint and peaceful city nestled in the heart of Northern California's Central Valley region but, has a bustling vibe and more people per square foot than Virginia City NV.

In search of a place to rest the eve of my flight out of SMF, I found this city. By the way, I clocked the drive and you can get into the airport premises from the Main Street/I5 entrance in 10 minutes flat. No speeding, No Traffic.... Now, back to the Woodland: 1. great eateries with small town values 2. parking plentiful 3. clean decent hotels and inns around to stay 4. close to Davis. 5. easy on/off the freeway (#15) I've stayed in the Woodland enough times for overnighters that I can safely say you are in a great little town. My next task is to schedule a visit to the Woodland when they have some fun activity (Like the Honey Festival) If you're in their neck of the woods, I suggest a stop.

Mmkay, so this town is full of people who have grown up here and are not looking for it to change…read moreanytime soon. It is going to be filled with new people in brand new houses. I call this area "New Dixon." It will have houses that cost less than places in the Bay Area but brand new houses that cost more than the ones inherited by their current owners already here. Dixon is a great sleepy little town with its fair share of opinionated folks as is the case with just about everywhere else. There aren't many streetlights on one side of town and that looks to be changing with the construction of new houses. I fear (very very mildly) that there will be many many people who choose to live here and commute to places where they can make a lot more money, but I also welcome that because they'll spend a fair amount of it here. Kind of a win-win. With the current situation of staying at home and teleworking, AT&T is putting in what looks to be a fiber backbone which will hopefully make internet speeds here decent. There are a number of old timey politicians here whose policies may be past their primes. We'll see how this turns out. Its location is also fairly ideal. I can cruise to the bay for a day or I can head up to ski if that's what's on the schedule. Then I can come home, kick back and relax. Maybe watch the rest of the world's problems on the news or read about it on Yelp or the internet. Life is good. Enjoy.

Yeah it's aight. Like others have said, it is spotty. One block you'll find multi-million dollar…read moreestates and then go a few blocks and you'll find homeless people and garbage lying around. Some of the highlights: * Arden Fair Mall - now that there is Uniqlo and H&M * How 'Bout Arden - lots of stores, great movie theatre. Nordstrom Rack! Kura Sushi! * Ernie's Interlude - welcoming dive bar; meet your neighbors, sing some songs! * Trader Joe's - this parking lot isn't so exasperating * Whole Foods - Great Amazon return setup * WinCo Foods - Show me a better bulk foods area * Grocery Outlet - I have a collection of shoplifting videos from this location at Marconi. The best one was when a group had a loaded shopping cart of Tide and there was a getaway van with a covered license plate that squealed them away. * Costco Business Center - it's like old school Costco (Price Club) with the huge boxes of bulk chewing gum. Get yo'self half a goat while you're at it. * Country Club Cinema - comfy reclining seats, $5 Tuesdays. Close to midtown, close to Business and Highway 80, not far from 50, it's a very convenient place to live. I hear the sheriff helicopter circling overhead maybe four times a year? I don't know if that's good or bad. It would be bad if I lived in Canada, but for Arden Arcade that's probably par for the course.

Most of the time when I'm visiting the Arden-Arcade area it's for food and there are a lot of great places to try out. At Howe 'Bout Arden I'm a frequent visitor of 18 grams Coffee Roasters and there are a lot of other restaurant and shopping options in that plaza, along with a movie theater. There is also both Ettore's Bakery and Restaurant and Estelle Bakery and Patisserie in the area and walking into either is dangerous, because the baked goods are AMAZING! Taqueria La Perla Tapatia is also in this area and their food is so tasty. You can go for something classic or simple or try one of their unique creations that your tastebuds and camera will love. Do a quick Yelp search and you're bound to find some new places you want to visit, and I feel like new places are being introduced all the time. I will say, this area is not my favorite to drive in. Sometimes the roads are a bit confusing and some areas need could use some updates. I feel like I always need my GPS here compared to Downtown where it's a grid. if you grow up here I'm sure it's a lot easier to navigate though.

East Sacramento is a gorgeous part of Sacramento to visit. While I wish I could afford a home…read morethere, I am happy to enjoy the homes from the street as we pass by on errands and during the holidays when the Fab 40's are even more fabulous with lights and decorations. This area of Sacramento is so cute and has a great variety of shops, parks, restaurants and is just a vibe. One of our favorite restaurants was in this area, and when they were open we would be in the area weekly for our trivia night and explored a lot more. We tend to spend most of our time near Folsom Blvd and J Street. Corti Brothers is a must visit when you're in the area and if you're in the area on the weekend Moonbelly Bakery in on the cusp of East Sacramento and is so worth a visit. More staples of East Sacramento that we visit are The Pet Department Store for all our dogs needs, where the staff is super sweet and always gives our dog treats. The Sacramento Turn Verein where they host Oktoberfest, Bockfest and teach German Language classes. McKinley Park with its Rose Garden and Tiferet By The Park for a snack and drink while you're walking around. This whole area has trees lining the road, a lot of shade and gives a more peaceful feel to a busy city area. The neighborhoods are so cute and easily walkable. While I mentioned a few restaurants and businesses there are so many to discover here.

I meet a lot of the neighbors when I walk with my dog and I love their beautiful homes with all the roses and flowers in bloom this time of year. Carmichael was where I called home for about 4 years and really loved living here it's a pretty quite town for the most part. There Carmichael Park which has a nice sized dog park and nice sized tennis courts and every Sunday where you can enjoy the Farmers Market. There are also small neighborhood park like Jan Dr Park, Gibbons park and Maddox Park. There and nice shopping centers and nice family owned Restaurants around and one of my favorite coffee shops Boulevard Coffee and now they have a Dutch Bros! There also the La Sierra community center for activities and many classes for Adults as well as for the kiddos too! They also do the 4th of July Fireworks show nearby as well. Most people just watch from the Big Lots Parking lot located on Fair Oaks Blvd and Engle Rd. There are plenty of schools like: Carmichael Elementary Cameron ranch Elementary Mary A Deterding Elementary Coyle Ave Elementary Starr King Elementary Mission Elementary Winston Churchill Middle School John Barrett Middle School Roy Rogers middle School Del campo High school located in Fair Oaks. Mira Loma High School located in Sacramento - Arden Arcade El Camino High school located in Sacramento - Arden Arcade Rio Americano High school located in Sacramento - Arden Arcade Since, Carmichael has no actual Public High School. There is so much to appreciate about Carmichael. Grocery shopping you have, Bel- Air, Raley's and Safeway. There a Home Depot and Walmart Neighborhood Market and a Petsmart! There's a nice variety of Chinese and Vietnamese shops along this busy boulevard. You can find restaurants, markets, salons, jewelers, and other Asian owned businesses. As a result of this pandemic, we have not seen any flyers or ads for Lunar New Year presentations. Maybe before covid, they had family events for the community to ring in the New Year, but likely this year will be different. Please check your local listing for information.
