Coming to the USA with nothing but two suitcases and 3 kids she quickly worked her way up to the Land Park neighborhood. A stunning house with 4 car garage, metal roof and pool. Alas, since I didn't feel like borrowing anyone's offspring, and drive-in movies aren't my gig, I'll be honest and say I drove all the way out to 50 & Bradshaw from Natomas to claim my Yelp Elite "Macy's Great American Drive In" goodie bag. So, I got there at about 6pm (gates didn't open until 6:30pm), and I was third in line. Gates opened promptly on time, and my Yelp Elite ticket got me my goodie bag. My haul included what's pictured in the avatar for this event: Macy's Great American Drive In canvas bag, frisbee, light-up yo-yo, and light-up ring, along with a Macy's savings pass, a bag of Cracker Jacks, and a cool Macy's blanket. And, gosh, can't forget the $10 Macy's gift card! Quite the haul, and totally worth the drive from Natomas :) I did park for a bit, and noticed a nice bouncy-house thing being utilized by multiple kiddies. Also saw that a few food trucks were there: Smoothie Patrol, OMG Burger, and OM Karmabile. If I wasn't already stuffed from eating at Krush Burger earlier, I would have partaken in one of those offerings, but it was nice that they were there. All in all, this event was nicely done. The Crocker Art Museum was a place I had always wanted to visit. We arrived early so we could explore the museum before the concert, and I'm so glad we did! The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful, and check-in was very easy. They give you a sticker indicating whether you're a member, patron, or attending for the concert. The best part? Our concert tickets included admission to the museum, so we got a wonderful two-for-one experience. We started on the third floor and worked our way down, just as the staff recommended. There was SO much to see! I loved the variety of exhibitions and the incredible use of color. There were works ranging from modern and contemporary pieces to Baroque and classical art, along with beautiful geometric pottery and so many different artistic styles. It was truly a nonstop feast for the eyes. The museum itself was peaceful, quiet, clean, and very well organized. I also appreciated that there are very clean bathrooms conveniently located on each floor. We eventually made our way down toward the concert venue, although we didn't have enough time to completely explore the second floor. That just gives us another reason to come back! The concert was held in a relatively small venue, which made the experience feel incredibly intimate and almost like being in someone's beautiful home. The concert featured a violinist and pianist who performed continuously for just under an hour, with very short breaks between pieces. It was absolutely magical and beautiful. The audience was respectful and wonderfully quiet throughout the performance, which made the experience even more special. The musicians were also local to California, which was a lovely touch. The only thing we missed was the café. Since our concert was at 3 p.m. on a Sunday, we were actually getting pretty hungry by the time the concert started, but the café had already closed at 3. So if you're planning to spend the day here, I recommend grabbing a snack or something to eat before the café closes. Overall, we had such a beautiful day at the Crocker. I especially loved seeing the historic Crocker Mansion alongside the continuously changing exhibitions. It's a wonderful combination of history, architecture, art, and music all in one place. Whether you're a Sacramento local or visiting from out of town, I highly recommend adding the Crocker Art Museum to your list. We tried five different places that she chose based on the group's preferences. We had a cocktail, a coffee drink, a dessert, and a few different dishes from midtown restaurants. I never felt full (the F word!) but I was happily satisfied at the end. I had never eaten at any of these places so now I know more great places to try. Dawnie has an amazing depth of knowledge about the area, the food scene, and the history of our Farm to Fork capital. She loves the city and it shows in how she highlights it in her tour. The biggest surprise for me was the street art. I had never noticed these murals nor did I realize we had a history of street art and unique festivals. We ordered the three-meat pizza, a meatball, and the rosemary bread. The pizza was honestly pretty bland and lacked the flavor I was expecting, and the meatball was the same. The rosemary bread was the one thing I really enjoyed, although I wasn't a fan of the flavor of the oil that came with it. Our server was nice, but there were a couple of issues with our order. Two things were forgotten for the table, including my pizza. When I asked whether it had been put in, he realized it hadn't and went ahead and ordered it. He came back to let me know, but at that point, I wish he had checked with me first. My friends had already finished their meals, so I would have just told him to skip the pizza rather than have it come out after everyone else was done. I also had my teenager with me, and they didn't enjoy any of the food we ordered. I'm glad we gave Masullo a try, but between the price point, the lack of flavor, and the service mishap, it just wasn't a place that made me want to come back.
