If you love fresh ingredients & food made with love, this is the place. Every time I visit Michigan, I do my best to visit Dearborn just to eat Middle Eastern food. Well, Habibi has topped my taste buds with incredible tasting food. "Everything" that was given to me from the creamy hummus, dolmas, lamb wrap(with beautifully marinated veggies) to the pitas was out of this world. Every bite I took, showed me how much time it was spent making the food. So fresh & deliciously prepared to perfection! Habibi provided the perfect closure to my visit to Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Got the shish tawook wrap with a side order of garlic hummus and bread. The wrap was open face and crispy so I wasn't able to roll it up to eat which wasn't what I expected but still delicious. The chicken was perfectly marinated and juicy and the bread had some light salt and seasoning which was very good. I was disappointed the side order didn't come with more than one pita for the 8oz hummus which I had planned to keep at the office as a snack for the next few days, sadly it's remained untouched. Maybe I just ordered wrong though. I worked in Southfield and pita cafe both in Southfield and Birmingham was a go-to take out and lunch spot for years, I've been trying to procure the garlic dipping sauce since moving back and was eager to give them a try. While it's not the same or what I was used to, it was good. I think the restaurant could make a few tweaks to their interior that would make it more welcoming to the locals who don't have experience with this type of food. Was in TC for work and had a taste for some Mid-Eastern delights. THIS is what the doctor ordered! I had the hummas, greek salad and a lamb gyro (year-oh). My wife had the lemon chicken soup and a chicken shawarma bowl. Our orders were brought to to table with soft hot Naan and any conversation was put on hold. The flavors were authentic and well blended. It was absolutely delicious. Habibi is definitely one of my spots anytime I'm in town from this point on. Naan bread was made super fresh and served warm with the best hummus! Ordered a lot and had plates to go. Food is served fresh so expect to wait about 30 to 40 minutes for your food which noone should be upset that it's not microwaved. Mmmhmm. Stumbled upon this halal restaurant on a weekend trip to Traverse and was blown away by all of the food we received! I stopped in on a whim and couldn't be more pleased. The menu is expansive and delicious. I'm vegetarian and the owner offered me samples of their braised cabbage, collard greens and Arabic salad. I ordered all three in the vegetarian platter which also included hummus, fattoush, chickpeas, falafel and pita. It was SO GOOD. The owner was very friendly and kindly sent me on my way with a cold hibiscus tea to go. It was, of course, rich in flavor and so delicious. I will be back many times in the future! read more

Habibi is a great restaurant. Despite it's strip-mall location, it's not fast food. Meaning, it can take a while for them to put together your order, especially if things are busy and they are short-staffed. But its well worth the wait. I ordered a couple of chicken shawarma pita rolls and a Fattoush salad. That takes a while, so if you're in a rush, maybe get something else. :-) Anyways, well worth the wait. I get no satisfaction from sharing a review that paints a new small business in almost entirely negative light. Based on the website this place is brand new, opening May 10th of this year. It's kind of a little hole in the wall attached to the super seven (basically a rip off of 7 eleven lol) just outside of downtown traverse city. Location wise it's a fairly good spot, there is private parking, and it is quite close to a number of hotels along the bay. First impressions were not too shabby! when we walked in we were hit with lots of good smells. The gentleman behind the counter who I believe was the owner was extremely friendly full energy very helpful and great to talk to. He mentioned that they haven't made it over to "the printer" and only had one singular paper menu that I could go off of to order... But also told me that there was plenty of stuff behind the counter that wasn't on the menu... He never walked us through what was offered in full after telling us that fact. The singular paper menu listed basically everything that I saw online before arriving but was also covered in food which was a little bit gross. Made me question their sanitary and OSHA standards. (Rightfully so) i'm going to be honest, we were very excited to try this place. In northern Michigan there just isn't a lot of Mediterranean restaurants that offer the type of Lebanese food that I love and have always enjoyed downstate or in western Michigan... So seeing the menu was pretty great. My mom and I decided we were just gonna share some stuff to give it a try... They were out of grape leaves which was a huge bummer it's one of the things I wanted most...he said that they just didn't get to wrapping them this morning and ran out last night... When you have a small menu and you're a new business... that isn't ideal to just simply not have one of your menu items when you have all the ingredients to offer it...that's totally in his control. He said they had amazing fried chicken that other people told him was the best in the area... Highly doubt it... Also not authentic Mediterranean food so we did not want that on the first visit... We ended up getting a chicken Shawarma platter to share. The chicken Shawarma itself was served on top curry basmati rice and covered in hot sauce and garlic sauce which were in squeeze bottles... So unfortunately the garlic sauce was not the kind that you would get and then dip naan bread into, which is what we were hoping for. We got to choose two sides from about five different options so, we decided to keep it simple and go with hummus and tabouli. We also got an order of the falafel to share with garlic sauce on top. We decided to sit at one of the patio tables on the curb and eat because we had no intention of eating this type of food in the vehicle and we do not live in Traverse City to be able to eat it at home. We watched many cars park, go in and grab to-go so before we even started to eat we were thinking it must be really good. WRONG. So the falafel was pretty good. very dry which I know is to be expected but it had amazing flavor and was nice and hot and crispy on the outside I think without the sauce it would be unbearable to eat without an entire gallon of water next to you though. No real complaints on our appetizer. When we opened up the platter we noticed the tabouli was extremely dark in color which is not typical and implied that it was old. We decided we would start with the bread. we always rip little pieces and dip it in hummus and tabouli as a way to eat those sides... The bread was the kind you buy at the store. very thin, very brittle, very dry STALE and was peppered in small dots of green mold. The hummus was the best thing we had at this place. The tabouli was acidic and the texture was terribly mushy and the flavor had a really disgusting aftertaste. Tabouli should be fresh and vibrant with crunchy bites of tomato onion garlic and parsley. THIS WAS NOT THE CASE. The chicken Shawarma was decent but didn't have a lot of dominating flavor. There was also alot of skin and fat left on the presumably chopped up thigh meat, so it was really hard to cut pieces to eat them ......they were clumped together. The rice was fine but was very dry, usually basmati is moist. We will not be back. Sadly as I type this I am dealing with not feeling very good which I can only believe was because of the lunch I had here yesterday. read more

We walked by this place earlier in the day and it smelled amazing so we decided to get dinner here. We went thinking we would get the standard lamb/beef gyro and chicken shawarma wrap but because it was 15 minutes before closing, we were limited in our options so we let the chef take liberties in creating a couple of wraps for us. He literally put everything but the kitchen sink in it: hummus, some sort of salad mix, lamb/beef, chicken, coney sauce, grilled veggies, feta, and all the sauces (garlic sauce, tahini sauce, harissa sauce). We did ask him to throw some fries inside the wrap because why not. The wraps ended up being at least a pound each. We took them back to our hotel questioning our dinner choice lol. But let me tell you, IT WAS LIFE CHANGING! It was an explosion of flavors. Hands down our favorite meal in TC. I hope they'll be able to recreate it when we return. read more

Eating Middle Eastern food regularly in Dearborn, I was sure that Habibi would be mediocre at best, falling short of the Authenic and flavorful dishes that I am accustomed to, but to my delight there was no shortage of deliciousness or platter size- all at a very reasonable price. This place is a must for visitors. We all know about the cherries and fudge but now we can tell people about Habibi, a diamond in the tourist trap. Excellent meal. The owner sat us, took our drink order, made recommendations and took our food order. He then went and cooked our meal and served it to us. He apologized that the order took a while and explained that he was doing this all himself because he hasn't been able to find help willing to do the work. The food was excellent and we didn't mind the wait ( which really wasn't excessive). He was a good guy trying to make a living in a bad economy and did a great job doing it by himself.
