The worst grilled cheese sandwich ever. Really worst ever. Not a warm sandwich and no mayonnaise and cheese not melted and no butter on the outside to be browned. That grilled cheese sandwich was barely warm. The two cooks we could see were basically lackadaisical. We waited 30 Minutes! My husband's scrambled eggs had shell pieces. Not impressed. 2 small Very greasy pcs with a small amount of fries. Husband had pers pizza. Too much bread or mostly crust & not enough toppings. A very yummy surprise!! We just happened upon this place, south of Kalkaska. While it looks very unassuming, don't judge the book by its cover. Our breakfast was delicious; paired with coffee it hit the spot! The restaurant was very clean - bathrooms pleasant as well. Service was excellent - thanks Bobby! I ordered the Saturday special (large pizza with 3 toppings). I am disabled and the gentleman who answered the phone agreed to bring the pizza out to my car and collect my payment. I got to the restaurant a few minutes early, he identified where I was parked, came out and got my payment and delivered my pizza. This was easy as pie and he was extremely polite. I will definitely be back again! I'm hoping to try their cheeseburger with sweet potato fries! read more

This place was just amazing. We came for breakfast but would certainly come back for lunch or dinner. The service was quick. Food was tasty. Ambiance was cozy and clean. We were driving by on a color tour and saw motorcycles and trucks parked here. Decided that we'd give it a try. I got a 1/2 lb burger with cheese and it was served with french fries. The burger was served hot and lots of flavor. My wife ordered the hot roast beef sandwich. It was served the same way, hot and full of flavor. The mashed potatoes were real. No buds here. Lots of people have noticed this place for good reason. If you're hungry, stop here. Make sure you save room for desert, the carrot cake is special. read more

Love this place! We come here often, as it is on our way to the highway heading south. And because the food is so good. And sometimes because it is Friday. Or Sunday morning...! YB is just good old fashioned comfort food with something for everyone. I have yet to have a bad meal here. Everything on the breakfast menu is wonderful! Their soups are homemade, and so are the pies. My boys love the Friday fish fry - all you can eat. The batter is so light and fluffy, and the fish is never strong. I like the BLT for my comfort food, and they always toast the bread perfectly and don't skimp on the bacon! The decor is Mom and Pop meets up-north charm and history. There is frequently a line out the door - and it's worth the wait. Just sip a cup of coffee and look at the menu and the artifacts/pictures, and they'll have a table for you before you know it. read more

Wow this turned out to be a disappointment. We had been here before and had much better food. We all had burgers and they all got overcooked. You can see the kitchen and the chef just kept pressing the meat instead of just letting it cook. 1 of the burgers got sent back and the new one at first looked good but in about 2 minutes it went from pink to grey inside. They obviously have a new supplier that put additives in the meat. Also the beef was bland. Bad burger all around. Service was friendly but with prices that keep going up and bad beef the overall rating falls to a lousy 2 stars. Sad! read more

We stopped at Yankee Boy Restaurant today, August 8. The food was excellent, the staff friendly and our waitress, Amber, went above and beyond to make sure we were happy and well taken care of. The problem was the wait. We waited in line to get in for over an hour...then waited another hour for our food. The place was super busy. Amber actually went to the back and pulled a cook to put our order to the front, since it was my birthday and she felt so badly that we had already waited 2 hours since arrival. We actually had just decided to leave, but Amber made the difference for us to stay and the food was really delicious. The place just seemed overwhelmed. It is just too small for the huge volume of customers they had today. The cooks couldn't keep up with the volume of orders, the waitresses only had one tiny window to pick up the orders from and the order pick up seemed confusing, the waitresses double checking and waiting for missed items. We watched everyone running around doing the best they could, but they need more room, a bigger pick up area, more heat lamps, more cooks....it is a super busy place....but not able to accomodate the number of customers that were there today. I love the food, but I don't think we will go back. 2 hours is just too long to wait. read more

this place has northern charm and delicious food. We ordered a burger, ham grilled cheese, french dip and chicken tender basket. all came out piping not and within 15 minutes of ordering. we made a few modifications and it was all excectuted 100% correctly. Ham grilled cheese had a generous amount of thick, high quality ham. Burger was juicy and cooked well. Chicken tenders were very good and ranch was good too! (very important!) It was a pretty ok place to go. The food was satisfactory, but the onion rings were really good it's a charming little place for older people I went with my mom and grandfather and they both really enjoyed it had room for improvement on there drink options (they didn't have lemonade) I did enjoy the bench out front we took a ton of pictures... oh and one of the only reasons I didn't give them 5 stars was because nobody was wearing masks and I'm not that offended about it but it would help if they payed more attention to it... the people were nice over all it was a adorable place to go with your family to eat a well cooked meal read more
