I have Celiac Disease so I thought ordering the Salad Bowl was safest for me. There is no mention of croutons in the salad ingredients. So when it was brought to me I was surprised to see that it was covered in croutons. I apologized and said that I couldn't have the croutons and why. The cook said he would make a new one. I got the second bowl and looked good. I took a bite and had to spit it into a napkin. They had just picked the croutons off of the salad and forgot one. I asked that it just be taken off of the bill. The waitress did that with no issue at all. I could have became sick if I were to have ingested crumbs from a crouton. I obviously wouldn't go back again or recommend it to anyone else with Celiac Disease or food allergies. read more

I didn't have it , but I felt it was necessary to mention. Onto this corn appetizer- it was nonsense- a piece of corn sitting in corn with mayo- there is no toasted quality to it whatever- the idea is there, but the execution was poor. Now on to the main disappointment- the chicken fajitas . They get their chicken the same place The Chinese restaurant gets their chicken and then they just throw it into a pan with peppers and onions, and a tomato, it was absolutely terrible. Completely uneditable and made my stomach hurt, sitting there, looking at it. When I mentioned it to the waitress, she said, we just make it like that.. we just make it like that, how nice. She definitely saw the plate sitting on the table when I asked for the check and then I had had the nerve to ask if I wanted togo boxes. Classic corporate training at its best.. The two honorable mentions were the fact that they decided to mop the floor with bleach in the booth right next to us and it's obvious that you just don't do that. Anybody running a decent restaurant would know that you don't throw bleach all over the floor when people are eating right next to it, regardless of what the cleaning needs are. Power out at the Pugterrier Castle so out to eat we go. Made the democratic decision and went for Mexican food. After our last adventure at El Compost Pile on Schillinger we went back to the trusty local in Tillmans Corner. What a GREAT DECISION. Crowded as possible on a Friday night, might have been the blessing here. Food was fresh and hot, but I am getting ahead of myself. Seated quickly and greeted by Fred, a hero in the food service industry. He was very patient with us and our off the path ordering style and questions tonight. Let us know that the kitchen was running a little behind and our order was behind a table of what appeared to be 20 people. Well Fred's calculation was off, we were served very quickly, as Lil Pug pointed out, he set the bar lower than expected and left us feeling special. Food, drinks, appetizer cheese dip, everything was great. Fred was a superstar and made us feel glad to be there, very personable and attentive. I sound like a fanboy, maybe I am now, who knows. Not often I drop close to a hundred for 3 meals (plus tip) and feel like the experience was justified, but the service tonight was worth it all. Not sure what's going on in Tillmans Corner lately, but the service we have been getting in the area is crazy good. Will we return? Hell yes, and will ask for Fred. If he isn't working it won't be a deal breaker, but if he is working I will not miss the chance to experience his care. We had lunch here a few days ago and it was good. It's definitely not authentic but it's good TexMex. I think everything was under seasoned, but that's just my opinion. I had the steak fajitas and my date had a fajita style chicken quesadilla. Both were freshly cooked and served very hot. Presentation was very nice. Certainly there are many many different takes on Mexican food. We decided to give this place a shot on the way to Florida from our home in Texas. Basically I'm sticking to my personal adage that the further west you go the better the Mexican food and unfortunately it's held here. The quick review is that it's overpriced, bland, and a bit too heavy on tomato sauce and melted cheese for my liking. For a lifelong Tex-Mex eater to say something doesn't have a lot of flavor, well that's just something I'd take to heart before visiting this place. Atmosphere is good. Presents itself as a family style restaurant with quite a bit of seating inside and out with daily food and drink specials listed at the entrance. People are super friendly and look happy to be here. This place is in the middle of a slew of overnight hotels right off the highway on the outskirts of Mobile. Looks like a pretty happy hour-centric place with several long tables set up for large parties. The vibe is that definitely people are going there on purpose. My wife and I opted for this sit down place over tried and true standards Waffle House, Krystals, Hooters. We were greeted with a smile and chips and a carafe of salsa. Which to be honest really tasted like seasoned taco or enchilada sauce. For those looking for more kick, my wife added some Cholula and salt and it helped flavor it up some. The special of the day was fajitas so we ordered steak fajitas with an a la carte chile relleno. My wife ordered a large Bud light after a long day of driving. Food came out fairly fast, maybe 6-7 mins after we ordered. Fajitas were covered with a healthy serving of bell peppers and onions which were nice and soft and grilled flavor. The meat however was fairly tough and very light on seasoning. It really gave me the impression of fajitas with a light ketchup flavor as there were also tomatoes in the mix and a reddish sauce tint to the meat. Edible but even at a discounted special of $15.99 I wish we had gone to another place. The chile relleno....well the plate was lava hot and the cheese was really melted down and thick. Verdict: way too much cheese that dominated the plate and very small chile that actually had decent flavor. The cheese just smothered and killed it. For an a la carte price of $7.50 I'd say pass on that in the future also. I did see some Mexican-themed salads coming out that looked pretty good at the table next to us and perhaps they have other dishes that might be better buys. But a definite pass on this one. My wife made me go to Krystals right after the meal if that tells you anything.... All together the bill came to $31 or so and after leaving a $5 tip we were quick to leave. I think my wife said it best. It wasn't the worst she's ever had, but if that's the compliment she gave then I think we can agree we probably won't visit this place again. read more

I dined in at Aztecas Restaurant & Cantina with my family on a Saturday afternoon, since my brother in law recommended it and we were passing through Mobile, AL for our weekend trip to Mississippi. There was a homeless woman in the parking lot waiting for guests to get out of their cars to ask for money. This made us feel a bit uncomfortable for safety reasons, while also empathetic for the lady. When we made it to the patio, I loved the decor and noticed that they had a lot of weekly specials (drinks and tacos etc.) Unfortunately, there was a faint sour mop water smell upon entry of the restaurant. We sat in the back near the restrooms and the bar. Our server was friendly, but forgot a few things. For example, I ordered a Victoria chicken bowl with no black beans (because black beans + long car ride = no buena). When my entree came out it had black beans on it. It was pretty flavorful though & I was surprised that the bowl had spring mix instead of romaine or iceberg lettuce. I also ordered a birria taco and it was disappointing. I would not recommend the birria here. The outer shell was stale and the meat was tough and lacking salt. The dipping sauce was great. My son ordered buffalo wings and they were HUGE! He enjoyed them a lot. My other relatives seemed to enjoy their food, although hubby was also unimpressed with the birria tacos too. My son had to use the restroom when the server requested our payments for our checks, so I forgot to use my Yelp check in offer. I share that so you know that you may be able to get a 10% discount on your first visit when you check in on Yelp. By the time I returned to from the restroom, it was too late to use the offer because the checks were printed. Overall, the experience served it's purpose, but I would not rush back to eat again. read more

Came for lunch on the way home to New Orleans from Florida , was a nice stop after the Alabama traffic . And super close as we wait to pass mobile to grab lunch ! Had the nachos and the fajitas , I was kinda skeptical about the bbq sauce situation in the fajita stuff but it was delish . We will deff be back again on our way home from the beach ! And the cocktails were good . Which it says only 1 percent alcohol unless request other wise so if you want to get a buzz you may want to ask for extra shot . This is a really nice venue with a great patio area. Tonight I got the chicken burrito loco, which was a very large portion but just okay taste wise. It seemed to be a really good cut of chicken but the menu didn't include that the burrito would have tomatoes and onions in it, which I would typically pass on. I normally get the chicken and rice and will probably stick with that next time, as it never disappoints. My husband got a steak fajita burrito and said it was good but nothing super special. My margarita was a little warm and syrupy tasting and somewhat watery. Waitstaff was fine but not overly personable. This restaurant is close to where I live and typically does a decent job. Well... this is sad. My husband and I previously LOVED this place. Specifically for the Fundido and amazing choices on the menu. We travel through for business quite a lot and make it a point to come to Tillman's Corner vs Mobile JUST to come here and get the Fundido. Sadly, on this last visit on Friday, the fundido was just TERRIBLE. Nothing like it used to be. This was some kind of canned liquid white queso. This was NOT Fundido made with freshly grated cheese. It was soupy, runny, you couldn't pick it up with a tortilla. It was a major disappointment. We also got fajitas this time, and it was just meh. This is the first time we've ever NOT enjoyed our meal. I will say that the young man that waited on us was great. Friendly, upbeat. Fast. He offered to have the fundido remade - but why? If I was just going to get another bowl of the same canned liquid cheese - no thanks. Also, as a policy, I don't ever let restaurants remake or reheat my food. Lots of areas for concern when you do that. We'll give it one more try on the way back through in a week. If it's bad again - we'll be passing on staying in Tillman's corner to eat here and staying in Mobile, Al to eat somewhere else from here on out. read more

Google reviews show 4 stars, but Yelp at 3 stars is more accurate. Wife's order of grilled fish tacos came out fried fish tacos. They re-made her order but I dislike having to send anything back to the kitchen for obvious reasons. We were waiting to eat until her plate arrived but our food started getting cold. So she asked us to eat and then we all offered bites of ours. Ceviche was good but it did not come with the pictured fried chips, it came with the basic table chips you get when you sit down. Service was polite but slow. Had to ask twice for salsa that ran out early. At the end, our waitress had two bills, appeared to look at them, then passed one to us and one to a neighboring table - She got them mixed up. We have always been to the Tillman's Corner location (for as long as I can remember). Our family loves to have birthdays and just meet up for big family gatherings. If you haven't tried the street tacos, you definitely should! Now, I can't say the service is always superb, but it's mostly on point. When we arrived we asked for waters with lemons. Server forgot our lemons and served us some from the bar that looked as if they were cut the prior night. We ordered queso to start off and were served a liquid milk soup. Dinner entrees looked like they were just covering mistakes with cheese. The carne asada was clearly not cooked on a grill too, looked more like a flat cooking top. Enchiladas had no flavor to them and rice was bland.
