Alright anyways the director who looks like that Principal from that movie Matilda, extremely unorganized, does not pay her staff on time, does not communicate well with the teachers, does not check the classes to see how they are doing and if the teachers need any support, hides in her office all day doing god knows what. Anyways for the young girls who want to work here, DO NOT PLEASE, there's better environments and places I'm writing this for your own good you don't want to be stuck there and get treated like shit and be taken advantage of cause your young and then BOOM your stuck there. Unless it's part time and you're in college I get it but for a living dude you will be miserable. I'm super lucky to get out of this place and I was scared cause I thought I wouldn't find another job but now I'm doing what I love which is making art and working in the City and Brooklyn in a Studio.

I'm an art major in college, so 'business' was a totally new concept, and PYD successfully taught me the fundamental principles very quickly. The PROS: They do teach you and give you amazing business opportunities that probably a normal company wouldn't. But what you gain also depends on how hard you work, or what you can make out of the experience. I have to mention that Mr.Leo is a super motivational speaker, and if you are also at loss in direction in NY, his speech will change you! I also find this program very useful if you come from a foreign country, or other states beside NY, simply if you are new to the whole "NY business mind". NY definitely has a unique dynamic like no other, and even just in the way you socialize with people seem different. In that sense, PYD has taught me very valuable and interesting ways to look at things in terms of business. You can also meet other ambitious people here, and the friendships I made here personally were very valuable. I think this comes from the fact that they are a very small school, and everyone quickly starts feeling as if they were all part of a family. I found out later that some people that attend PYD regularly, are in very high positions of big cooperates that I would never even find the chance to talk to in normal life. Yes, for some reason PYD does attract these people to come even while they have amazing careers. Never under-estimate who might be sitting in with you at a meeting while your interning for them! The CONS: Because the school is so small, the dynamics of this school really depends on the people that attend PYD at the time. It does tend to get frustrating when people don't speak up, or meetings don't seem productive. This all depends on if the students/interns there are just there to fulfill their resume as "internship", or if they really want to learn. You also have to understand that this is a learning process for everyone, so at times it's struggling to cope with different levels of 'professionalism' s until they all get to the high standards. You can slack but they DO make you work HARD! So sometimes you will feel pressured and worn out, doubting if this is what you really want. No pain, no gain, right? Overall, I think PYD definitely teaches you a lot and makes you feel rewarded for what you do.

Wow, I am shocked by how bad my class was (Memoir with Janelle D). My teacher ends the classes…read more10-15 minutes early. Instead of trying to engage the dialogue or teach us something interesting or more broad, it's like, "Welp, no one has any more questions, see ya!!!" ... and she only wries 1-3 ACTUAL sentences of critique on each person's piece. The rest is her cutting and pasting long swaths of your own writing. The discussion is pretty boring generally and her often reading VERBATIC what was already written in the assignment handout, or having someone read the assignment out loud. We were told me were not allowed to talk to each other in the platform about our peer feedback so there is absolutely no community or culture to the class - no vibes at all. She also said she would grade our submissions the day or after they came in but she was always late so you barely had time to digest your critique before moving onto the next assignment. We paid $400 dollars for 5 hours of instruction (that would be the total since she cuts class early) and a few sentences of critique on all of our pieces. It really feels like maybe these teachers - or maybe this one - are there just as their side hustle to make some extra cash. Totally nuts. Also, instructor Janelle said she has never taught memoir before and has never written memoir before. Well, why are you teaching it then????? What the hell! I had another teacher who there was much more engaged so I know they are not all bad. But nonetheless, there is no oversight on how each teacher is doing, so it's just an expensive crapshoot knowing if you'll get a quality teacher. WS marketing is strong in SF and NYC so maybe they stay in business by getting a bunch of newbies who don't know better. PS - Gotham which is rated MUCH higher and only costs $50 more offers 3 hours of instruction over 10 weeks - so 30 hours for memoir vs 6 hours of instruction at 1 hour over 6 weeks - TAKE THAT IN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
